TRS-80 EDIT: After post was approved, they came back some weeks later and edited the content and replaced whole post with spam, which I have removed. I am leaving the post up though, as already other new users (searching for answer to same problem) found it helpful. How ironic.

https://forum.armbian.com/topic/11857-free-software-supported-wifi-card-phone-usable-esp8089-esp8266-esp32/ It says, that adding an usb ar9271 wifi card to a pinephone is not feasible because the wifi card uses to much power. How much power is acceptable for an usb ar9271 wifi card to use? I do not have extended equipment. I made the following arrangement. One pc. Connected an usb power meter. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61fKDfC3pgL._AC_SL1000_.jpg Connected an usb ar9271 wifi card to the usb power meter. Started an youtube video. After that downloaded an ubuntu image. Distance to router abo…

Hi, Please excuse me if this question has been brought up before, but I recently got a couple of Orange Pi 4G IOT boards, and I find the instructions for flashing Ubuntu lacking. So I wonder, does armbian work on this particular board? It would be awesome if I could flash it with armbian, and install the drivers for the modem later (as long as wifi works ofcourse so I can actually connect to it).

Hello, I am trying to activate and use canbus on the BananaPi M4. Since the BananaPi M4 is released half a year ago, it seems like never anybody tried this or just don't needed any help. I am googleing for days now to find any solution and get canbus to work. Hardware: BananaPi M4 System: armbian for BananaPi M4 (Debian 10 Buster Lite) Kernel: 4.9.119-BPI-M4-Kernel I want to use it over SPI like on an raspberrypi 3 there I done the following: Added to the /boot/config.txt dtoverlay=mcp2515-can0,oscillator=16000000,interrupt=6 dtoverlay=spi-bcm2835-overlay After an reboot I activated the…

hey, I'm having some trouble with my ssh connection to an armbian based server. It feels like a heavy lag within the filesystem, sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds to open a file with vim or use cd with tab-completion. But it is not always there, it feels more like some heavy write operation occurs spontaneously. I start digging but I have no clue why this happens. But at least I found the most disk I/O processes which are influxdb and mysql. [16:54|root@odroidhc1 ~]# cat /syscat /sys/fs/ext4/mmcblk0p1/session_write_kbytes 118811040 [16:55|root@odroidhc1 ~]# uptime 16:56:03 up 10 days, 3:53, 3 users, load average: 0,87, 0,64, 0,59 [17:15|ro…

I have this cheap bluetooth multimedia controller with 5 keys (play, prev, next, vol up, vol down). It's all connected and key presses are recognised: [root] [~] # showkey kb mode was UNICODE [ if you are trying this under X, it might not work since the X server is also reading /dev/console ] press any key (program terminates 10s after last keypress)... keycode 164 press keycode 164 release How do I go from here? How do I make this 164 key press to run "mpc toggle" command? It's an Orange Pi PC+ and Armbian 5.90. This is a console-only machine. No any X window system (most of the keybind solutions I've found were X related).

Hi there, I'm trying to better understand GPIO (in general) and to use what's available on the OrangePi Zero with Armbian. For the time being, I managed to get an I2C screen to work. Now, I'm about to try InfraRed (before using SPI). I already have the OrangePi extension hat (somewhere in the office), but it won't be really handy, as the IR receiver could be a feet away from the board, so I thought of using a general purpose IR receiver. I know there is a module pack listed on OrangePi store, but I'd like to get just the IR part... Is there a schema somewhere that lists the kind of circuit and part I should get? I was not able for the time being to …

Hi Experts, I am using Armbian Ubuntu Xenial image on Orange Pi Zero and I get following Failure during boot after which it starts rebooting itself. [ TIME ] Timed out waiting for device dev-ttyGS0.device. [DEPEND] Dependency failed for Serial Getty on ttyGS0. THIS HAPPENS ONLY WHEN WIFI (SSID) CONFIGURED IN THE IMAGE IS POWERED OFF. IF WIFI ROUTER IS ON, IT SUCCESSFULLY GOES TO THE LOGIN PROMPT. Is there specific boot sequence that cause this failure when WiFi is not available. Any workaround please?

This is my first day trying Armbian on my Firefly Renegade. But the web browsers do not work under the main user, only if I log in as root. Other distros that I have used only let the less privileged users run a browser. Was this intentiional on your part ?

Hello, is there something like a VirtualBox that can emulate a BP(M1) hardware, that can run Armbian inside? I'm looking for a way to set up a new Armbian system for a BPM1, without having to shut down the running one longer than absolutely necessary. I have done this before with Linux servers: I installed and configured a hole server inside a VirtualBox alongside my normal computer work, then I copied the image to the real disk and swapped the disks, with a downtime of only about 5 minutes. So I was wondering if this was possible with the BananaPi as well.

(Note: this is a cross-post from here). For those unfamiliar with Festivus, it’s that festive time of year when you get your chance to Air your Grievances, and be heard (or ignored, as the case may be). Please, everyone, save up your Grievances for the next 2-3 days, then Air them! It would be sort of like when Lunduke does his “Linux Sucks” speeches, but we all get to have our say. For example, are there particular ARM board vendors that have made your life particularly difficult? You can have long-winded rants, ideally caffeine fueled, but please, edit them into a coherent essay-like format, before posting. Diagrams, meme-pictur…

Hi, I've been using a lot redsocks with iptables to be able to stream to YouTube since last June on an X86 Ubuntu machine. I have a set of iptables rules that work for me on this machine. I imported them on my OrangePi One running Armbian Linux orangepione 5.4.2-sunxi #19.11.4.352 SMP Wed Dec 18 00:58:18 CET 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux. Hi, I just had a huge boost on my Internet speed (1Gbs down / 600Mbps up), it's a good thing but it showed that many of my SBC that are running 24/7 are not ready to handle such high bandwidth. In each case running a curl outputting to /dev/null -> I almost top out the Gigabit interface -> 99Mo/s. When I test download speed (while saving on disk) : * Old Banana pi running kernel 4.14.18-sunxi (armbian of course but not updated with stretch) with an Kingston SSD on the SATA port -> cannot go over 12~14Mo/s (Mo/s not Mb/s) * Orange Pi +2E running 4.19.62-sunxi (armbian with ubuntu Bionic) with a Sandisk SSD on usb2 wi…

https://www.pine64.org/pinephone/ Free software is software you may use, share, modify and redistribute. Replicant has decided to investigate if they can port a replicant version to the phone. Replicant has said, they know of no phone better about free software. All modems on the market require non free software. Same about the modem in the pinephone. A downside of the pinephone is the wifi card, 8723cs, because it requires non free firmware software. On pinephone's irc I was told, they went for the 8723cs because pinephone could find no viable free software supported sdio wifi card. Is it the case, there…

Good day/night, I have 3 main questions. I have the following; https://www.androidpolice.com/2015/12/19/jide-remix-mini-android-desktop-pc-review-interesting-software-let-down-by-bargain-bin-hardware/ https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=44_567&item_id=092497 Which version of "Armbian" should I download for these 2 devices? As well I was wondering if there is a generic x86/x86_64 version of Armbian for download? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ubuntu LTS 20.04 will probably have XFCE 4.14, which is based on GTK3. I have XFce 4.14 installed on an x86 Arch Linux machine. Unfortunately, the GUI is heavy. Requires memory resources and a good graphics card. I have a question. In connection with the upcoming 20.04 release, would it not be better to Armbian switch to LXQT as the basic GIU. It is lighter and faster. thanks

Hello, I'm using Armbian (kernel version 5.0.21-sunxi) on an Olimex a13 SOM. I'm trying to implement wiegand interface on GPIO pins, that means that I have to fire interrupts on 50uS pulses. I solved my problem with writing down a driver capturing edge triggered inputs. So, with some readers (200uS pulses, 1.5ms between pulses) i can get all data, but with other readers (e.g. 100uS pulse, 500uS between pulses) I miss some interrupts (e.g. I have a wiegand42 reader and sometimes I get 41 interrupts, sometimes I get 39 or 36). I read that kernel fires new interrupt only when the previous interrupt function has returned, so I tested it with just addi…

Hi there, I am currently trying to have a solution based on Hx SoCs to encode raw 1080p video on the fly (at smaller resolutions). For the time being, I have: OrangePi Zero 1.4 OrangePi Zero 1.5 OrangePi One OrangePi PC (waiting for it) OrangePi OnePlus The Zero has a heating problem, for sure, the One seems to be better at handling the load. As for the OnePlus and PC, I haven't tried them yet. What I would like to find is a board with eMMC (so that I don't have to change the SDCard regularly), with a good heatsink. I just need an RJ45 plug, power, and I'm good to go. I don't need CSI, video output or anything el…

So i came across this mysterious vpn/network box thingy and it was suspiciously looking like an orange pi zero with a fancy case and some nice gui frontend. To nobody's surprise, digging at the firmware image, it confirms my suspecion. It uses armbian!... Looking at their github page, absolutely no mention of either armbian or sunxi team (even though their project would not exist without them). Is armbian/sunxi team aware of this?

Want to know if some one succeded compiling ffmpeg with hw acceleration? Actually I'm looking for board which is good for Home Media Server with support for transcoding 1080p(4k? if any can) with good fps (24+) Already tried rpi3 results are not that good as i want 13fps for 720p x264 Hi10 5Mb/s bitrate=> 720p x264 5Mb/s bitrate So i think 1080p will be much slower. Do you think orange pi prime can handle this type of tasks well?

I dont know if it real (but for me it feels like) that updating packaged (fetching/reading the list) takes much longer than on stretch or a bionic version. After reading about the actual 2018 performance test of @tkaiser and reading about the manfid and oemid of SD-Cards I did found out that my "SONY Class 10" card is a fake - also because armbian told me at the first login that the card is to slow: Attention: Your SD card seems to be very slow. Please check performance using armbianmonitor -c While searching for manfid/oemid I did read about a Android-App which can identify SD-Cards using manfid/oemid: SD Insight. I do not wish to make this too political. But I do often get the question if we can trust all the images from board makers security wise. I personally try many images. I only use Hardkernel images on my Odroids. On my NVIDIA Jetson Nano I of course use the image from NVIDIA since it's got all the goodies. But on all other boards I use Armbian. Either official Armbian, or Balbes Armbian. I wanted to hear your thought about this.

Hi Armbian fans and developers, I want to introduce ARM single board computers into one traditional organization with corporate IT that doesn't like changes. I already know what I get from the security team if I ask to deploy Armbian that is build by a relatively small number or volunteers. Security team is OK with Debian (that is not run by commercial company) but they won't be happy with Armbian regardless my recommendation even that I personally trust the Armbian team. The solution is to build the image from source and luckily that can be done thanks to the amazing https://github.com/armbian/build. I've just tried to build image for OrangePi Zero and it…

Recently, nothing is happening on the SBC market. Libre Computer seems to be in a bad financial condition after having failed with La frite and the kickstarter campaign. Projects on SBC on cpu amlogic S912 and S922 are dead and it is not known if they will see the light of day. Pine is busy with its smartphone and probably nothing new will not be released yet. Xunlong who lives not from sales but from subsidies from the Chinese government is also silent. Expected allwinner processors from the new A100, A200 series are just under design. Only khadas released VIM3L from the S905X3 cpu. They even have a linux image already on this board. It can be downloaded from the khadas …

Hey everyone, I flashed an SD card using Etcher and the latest armbian image for Orange Pi PC. I am using a Samsung 2A usb power supply + the official usb power cord. I'm not getting any output on the HDMI. Is this something I have to SSH to first? I removed a USB WiFi adapter and it seemed to work. Hi all, First let me thank you for your work. Armbian is fantastic. Thank you. I’m surprised that nobody has asked this question or at least I’m unable to find it on the forum / in docs. My understanding is: 1. Debian x86 Linux kernel is same on all devices since regardless if it is laptop or server, it has BIOS or UEFI that will ”tell” the kernel what hardware, what buses, what addresses, etc. it has… 2. ARM boards don’t have BIOS and therefore Linux Kernel is different for every board. I checked that on my Orange Pi Zero by default the /etc/apt/source.list and /etc/apt/source.list.d/ are default Debian repos and one…

One month ago I got on my OPi Zero Plus2 H5 only up to 816Mhz with armbian. In the past I got on this device up to 1.1GHz (1080000 cpufreq) with older armbian builds. @5kft Told me thats because frequencys greater than 816Mhz require 1.2v and the OPi Zero Plus2 H5 isnt/couldnt switch(ing) and would only run at 1.1v. So it seems the cpu-table is now more conservative than before. Yesterday I did see the same behaviour and my "older" non-LTS NanoPi Neo2 (H5 also). Because in September I edited the cpu-table less conservative for the OPi Zero Plus2 H5 I did test this also on the non-LTS NanoPi Neo2 and it worked like on the OPi Zero…

I have Cubietruck plus H8, downloaded Armbian_5.51_Cubietruckplus_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.17.4.img and wrote it to 32 Gb SD card. It booted normally. But under booted Armbian there is only 1 partition for all capacity, mounted as root. I want to divide the one partition to root, home and for database files, for example 10 Gb for root, 5 Gb for home and 15Gb for database files. Hello Armbian community, Here is a project of adjusting the Kobol Helios4 case for a Raspberry Pi 3B and either 2.5" or 3.5" HDD, as well as a 92mm FAN and a USB hub. This is my first SketchUp project (I've used the 2016 trial version). The Raspberry Pi will be screwed in the bottom and powered through the micro usb. That's why I've left more room on that side. We can fit either 4x2.5" or 3x3.5" at any "deep" level. I've left room for a USB hub because I want to reuse my existing spare one. We can maybe come with a better idea, more universal (eg. dual output 12v and 5v of at least 90w, or a Molex fanless PSU unit. The latter would b…

these boards are no longer available, but there are quite a lot of these boards around - they work really well and it would be nice to get an Armbian build for them. There is an image from Odroid for it, but with an outdated 3.14 kernel. There is a working 4.9 Kernel for those boards - I was asking them, if they could update there image with the 4.8 Kernel, but the answer was no - http://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=16633&start=100 https://github.com/tobiasjakobi/linux-odroid-public/blob/odroid-4.9.y/README-ODROID.md https://github.com/tobiasjakobi/ http://linux-exynos.org/wiki/Hardkernel_ODROID-X2

Hello, I created with Armbian config a Wlan hotspot. I want to make a kan bridge because it is isolated. What's on Ubuntu Bionic the best way? With the network managers or manual way. Looks like the network management has changed, in the last years and I am confused of all the available instructions. And when I am connected to the AP from win 10 notebook I can get a ssh connection to the host. I can connect to an other client at this ap and then I connect over this client to the host. I have no idea why. How could I solve this? Gr…

It seems like manufacturers should want to sell as many chips as possible, and it seems like they could sell more chips if they released the documentation to allow anyone to implement their product. But many devices or peripherals (i.e., ARM Mali, Allwinner CedarX, etc.) are undocumented and need to be reverse engineered. I noticed this when when I was looking at the RK3399 data sheet and saw all of the features this chip has. It's a shame that of all those features, the only ones that will be used on most SBCs are the ARM cores and the simple I/O peripherals (SPI, I2C, GPIO). I don't have the skills yet to write an OS driver, but I know how to write bare-metal embedded d…

I wonder if somebody can help me make a good choice. I'm sorry if I'm a bit rambling but I spent a good part of the weekend looking at different SBCs. I've played around with the early Rasperry Pi, then later on I got a Cubietruck (which still faithfully does network stuff at home) and a Cubox. (Which I wasn't that happy with because I needed a little bit more omph, it was *mostly* fine though) What I'm looking for is an ARM based setup I can do some browsing with, run some lightweight X11 (jwm window manager and some very light programs mostly dependent on X-libraries) and watch videos up to 720p. The screens' resolution would be 1280x1024. It'd b…

Can you people explain to me how you advertise on almost every page 48+TB storage fully knowing there is a 16TB limitation on all filesystems thanks to limitations on 32bit? I will not use whatever MERGEFS is. How exactly do you achieve 48TB storage as I currently have 4x6TB disks that I CANNOT USE. If you can't I want a refund.

Greetings, I have scoured every source I could find, but could only find images that hinted at it. I need 1) to know the pinout of the 4-pin debug usart port on the NanoPC T4, and possibly 2) to find a good alternative to PuTTY that can handle the high(?) bit-rate I see in dmesg output (under Armbian debian Stretch). I've tried those implied by the images, and though my Windows 7 PC sees a new COM port (and the driver installed clean) for my new DTECH USB to TTL Serial 3.3V Adapter Cable (TX RX Signal with 4 Pin 0.1 inch Pitch Female Socket PL2303 Prolific Chip for Windows 10 8 7 XP Vista (6ft, Black)), I'm unable to access it v…

So, finally today I am getting around to pulling trigger on (2x) ODROID-XU4, I go to AmeriDroid (US supplier), put 2 of them in cart and go off looking for emmc modules, only to come across: https://ameridroid.com/collections/storage-emmc-and-microsd/products/emmc-5-1-module-blank Has anyone seen / tested these? My internet search says no, but I thought I would ask anyway. If not, I guess it's my turn now to be the guinea pig. I think I will maybe get one of these and one "regular" emmc...

Hi there, please apologize if this has been asked before, but I was not able to find a concise answer. I'm on a Cubox i4 pro using latest armbian. My main use case is a simple LAMP server, mainly as distributed database for several Kodi clients. Currently my installation is "SD card only". Is there any performance gain or other advantage by using an installation to SATA or USB etc. via the armbian-config script? Thanks in advance, Christoph

Hi all. As regular I was looking for news about a new Odroid. Finally the news arrived. The N2 will have the Amlogic S922X with 4xA73(@1.8Ghz) + 2xA53(@1.9Ghz), a Mali-G52 GPU and 4GB DDR4 RAM. Looks very promising. It should quite a bit faster than the RK3399's. It does have a giant heatsink, so this thing will get very hot I suppose. https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=176&t=33781&p=245930&hilit=n2#p245930 Please let me know what you all think of this. I find it very interesting. Greetings, NicoD

Hi, I am trying to use a tinker board S as a Logitech Media Server for my multi room installation. The server runs well when streaming radio for a whole day or more. As soon as I start to stream music from the attached USB drive it stops after a few minutes for some seconds continuous then and stops again. After a few of this itterations it stops completely. I tryed to install all available server-OS. At the moment I run BIONIC. I looked in the LMS logs but found noothing. As I am new too this kind of topics I do not know how to find the issue. Hi Experts, I am trying to achieve following and facing some difficulties. Hope you can guide me. Target: Freez rootfs with overlayroot but allow application to write data file on permanent basis in separate partition on sd card. Steps Taken: 1. Partition SD card (8GB) with rootfs in primary partition (4GB) and extended/logical partition (4GB). 2. Formatted logical partition (ext4) 3. Created Entry in fstab to mount logical partition automatically at boot. 4. Run overlay root as described in https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/#how-to-freeze-your-filesystem Behaviour Observed: Partition is mounted at boot and files can be created bu…

Hi all. I've discovered Vivaldi Browser for arm. A fork of Chromium. There is a armhf version and a arm64 version. Youtube playback with this is a lot better. I've tested it on the NanoPi M4. The same video in Chromium had 2/3 dropped frames. (10 frames/s) 1080p video With Vivaldi browser you get 1/3 dropped frames. (20 frames/s) A lot better experience. Here you can download it. https://vivaldi.com/nl/blog/snapshots/vivaldi-1-15-rc-2/ Here the source where I found it. From Meveric @ Odroid. Also explanation of how to install. No wget, and change filename to the file you've downloaded for gdebi. Or use gdebi package installer.(not tested) https://f…

spent most of today trying to get a USB-wifi adapter working on my OrangePiOne... connman_ctl wpa_supplicant (with and without wpa_cli), iw... you name it, I've probably tried it. Five minutes later I had working wifi - which works again after a restart without further configuration! So, a note to myself: be sure to RTFM (= Read the Fabulous Message of the day)! Hi, I wonder if anyone has experience using an sbc (or tv box) for remote controlling a server. I think the necessary pieces are there on many boards (many have camera inputs which could perhaps be used for video, it looks like some even have an hdmi in). I found this [1] project, but it uses some extra hardware I'd like to avoid. https://github.com/Fmstrat/diy-ipmi Has anyone done anything similar? Note I'm mostly looking into this to gain knowledge, not to put this in production in a real world situation.

Hi, my rpi 4 with 4GB ram is now on my desk but I cannot find armbian for it: looking at github build repo I do not see any file regarding raspberry pi in general. So... is anyone interested to help me to work on it? Is there an armbian interest in having a Raspberry PI build? Why historically I cannot see any sign of interested in those boards? Please... I know of all of their HW limitations... but they sell millions of boards each year... it is clear that some million people out there find them useful so we (as community) should to deliver an armbian build for this SBC. Any thought? Any starting point? *Ciao …

Hey guys, I am thinking to build a wireless router from a single board computer, so my requirement is that the chosen board to support Linux to have at least one Gigabit port and also to have a PCIe port to connect an external WiFi card and antennas and eventually attach one or more SSDs. So far I looked on the Internet and I am wondering which is a better board for this project Rockpro64, Banana PI BPI-R2 or the EspressoBin. The advantages of the EspressoBin are: it has built-in networking switch with one dedicated WAN and two LAN interfaces all 1Gbps dedicated SATA interface miniPCIe slot for wireless cards stable Armbian support …

It would be nice to have a anonymous telemetry result that summarize boards and armbian popularity (distro, kernel, CPU from /proc/cpuinfo and memory size, board name if available) Another board's popularity source that is also interesting is a poll about boards in use (board name, development tools) Please star/mark this post to make it important for @Igor

Hey all, wasn't sure where to post this so I figured here is fine. I was wonderng: Is there a repository of older armbian releases? Specifically: Tinkerboard S Armbian Bionic 4.19.y Desktop Kernel. For the past couple months I've been developing on my ASUS Tinkerboard S running the Armbian Bionic 4.19.y Desktop release. However, sometime recently, the updated 4.4.y release came out for Armbian Bionic Desktop. I tried it, and it turns out one of the updates actually break a decent part of my system I had working (partly due to the lack nodm on the system now, which was warned). I'll update my system eventually, but it's not really worth it for the …

Hi Guys, Most of us have powerfull (compared to Pi's) unused phones on the shelfs just because we got a new one or for other reasons. I'd really like to build a relationship with Armbian and Linaro... even a small one. Although most of the SBC manufactures we support aren't a member of Linaro... Armbian is a huge win for Arm as a whole, and impacts influencers who can choose to use ARM products in enterprise settings etc.

Hi, I have a OpenVPN server running on the broadband router installed at my parents house. My router at home connects to this and I mirror my complete NAS over this connection. My brother also has a laptop on which he uses VPN occasionally to copy important stuff there. Since the router has only a small dual core MIPS CPU, VPN speeds are limited to about 18Mbit/s. The connection at my parents home is 100/50Mbit/s and mine at home 250/80Mbit/s, so it could work faster. Also, the VPN takes up all the CPU so for example DNS resolution is slow if the VPN is saturated. For this reason, I'd like to buy a inexpensive small device tha…
