  3. Hello Armbian community, Here is a project of adjusting the Kobol Helios4 case for a Raspberry Pi 3B and either 2.5" or 3.5" HDD, as well as a 92mm FAN and a USB hub. This is my first SketchUp project (I've used the 2016 trial version). The Raspberry Pi will be screwed in the bottom and powered through the micro usb. That's why I've left more room on that side. We can fit either 4x2.5" or 3x3.5" at any "deep" level. I've left room for a USB hub because I want to reuse my existing spare one. We can maybe come with a better idea, more universal (eg. dual output 12v and 5v of at least 90w, or a Molex fanless PSU unit. The latter would b…

Hello, currently I have a rasperry pi zero w with raspbian and I installed kodi on it. Playback is fine (hardware acceleration is supported), the menus are responsive but most addons are sluggish (to say the least). I saw various threads about kodi on armbian (e.g. this and this) and all say that the problem is lack of support of hw acceleration. I assume the more powerful cpu would help with the addons but, unless something has changed, without hw acceleration it makes no sense to even try. Is the situation the same now or has it improved? Maybe I should just get a raspberry pi 3b+? (it should be far more powerful than the pi zero, right?…

I can't even imagine the amount of work involved on both sides of the (debian) development fence, as well as the admins, mods, community contributors, ..., here, that help make Armbian a viable SBC (ARM) whatever OS. -and here's to RISC-*, and let it not be too encumbered. My "Armbian_24.11.1_Odroidc4_noble_current_6.6.60-kisak.img" works very well on my lowly Odroid-C4. I don't know your names, but Thankyou all.

Just a small post about how to connect the PL2303HX RS-232 adaptor cable and the Real Time Clock. Do not trust the Banana pi photos as the I2C bus in the Lamobo/Banana PI R1 is inverted. As they say a picture is better than a thousand words. Often the online Banana PI/Lamobo PI diagrams can be confusing, and do not even try to guide yourself by Banana PI pinouts / photos of placement of hardware products/extensions. I will reiterate again, as this can be a source of confusion, the Banana PI is a rebranded Lamobo product, and the GPIO bus is different/rotated 180º. To scan the GPIO: $sudo i2cdetect -l i2c-0 i2c mv64xxx_i2c adapter I2C…

The nice dashboard screenshot above is used by @Fourdee to explain why DietPi is superiour to Armbian: 'With #DietPi, logs and DietPi scripts are mounted to RAM , this reduces SD card write operations vastly' -- while I don't understand the purpose to 'mount scripts to RAM' of course the idea to cache logs into RAM is great! That's why Armbian does it since 2014 already. While the above 'proof' is somewhat questionable (watching a 5 min period in a dashboard and once there's activity in one graph taking a screenshot with numbers without meaning) let's look into what makes DietPi that superiour compared to Armbian since it's always a great idea to improve even …

Actually I think it should be 'saved' somewhere due to it explains the reasons and opinions why Armbian recommends to use Etcher and I think it would fit best there. It might be good to have this somewhere where it doesn't get lost due to new threads showing up. only recommend a tool which validates the Image after burning.. And at the moment, only etcher seems to do this.

Hello, I wanted to "build" some kind of Libre Safebox and Libre Router (meaning as libre as possible, of course in this case). I searched around but I still didn't find anything really fully assembled (a part for the Project Turris router, but I was hoping in something more versatile, that isn't necessarily restricted to being a router), so I decide to, if possible, find/assemble a more custom solution by myself. It doesn't have to be anything particularly performing, just that it can handle 720p videos and resolutions smoothly enough, that it can be used to surf the internet even with several open tabs and maybe some basic office things. Being someone aware of Libreboot for some years now, I was never a fan of Purism and the BS they pulled with their laptops, which meant either: they knew fully libre firmware was not possible, and lied (or) they really wanted to do as stated, but ran face first into a wall due to lack of knowledge / research beforehand (about Intel IME issues) And so, back then I never really paid much attention to them, thinking (like you do) that they were just another company "cashing in" as you say, and everything from them is all …

With complete kernel support for VDEC/VENC/ camera this is actually somewhat interesting, so maybe some people would like to play with it. I'm sure @Icenowy knows more than is humanly possible about the capabilities and whether it's worth talking about.

I could buy a Raspberry pi and run Ubuntu on it, but I have a few Amlogic boards at hand, and for the most part they work perfectly with Armbian (OK I know they are not a supported board, and I don't run an official build). My concern, though, is that lack of hardware support (audio, video decoding) which makes low-profile hardware quite sluggish to use in the daily life. My point is that I am tired of seeing perfectly usable (in theory) electronic products to to landfill (and create an environmental disaster) just because software is falling short. I'm looking for current and upcoming PXE bootable SBCs. I guess if it has uboot on a SPI chip (like ROCK64, PINE64, espressobin, opi r1 ...) this is already a good indicator that it will support PXE boot. But I'm not 100% sure if PXE will really work, it seems to be rarely used for such boards. The only board I know which does not have uboot but can boot via PXE is the rpi 3. Maybe there are other ones. Some other boards like the nanopi duo could boot via a SPI chip attached to the respective GPIO pins. Maybe someone here knows other boards with PXE boot support or has tested it already?

The goal is that it will be in an enclosure up the antenna mast, POE fed, so not easily accessible! I even looked at the Atomic Pi, but I am not so sure about processing power in that unit.. Make Atheros drivers ignore regulatory domain set in EEPROM I found the bottom link https://sites.google.com/site/twisteroidambassador/linux/ath-user-regd "For my purpose I need these two patches: 402-ath_regd_optional.patch and 404-regd_no_assoc_hints.patch. The first one ignores regdomain set in EEPROM, and the second one disables "picking up regulatory domains" from other APs." How can these two patches be included in official images on ARMbian?

Been hearing some news lately about some pretty big ARM Mali GPU vulnerabilities. Old boards could be affected, including ones that are not maintained. https://hothardware.com/news/arm-warns-of-mali-gpu-vulnerabilities https://developer.arm.com/Arm Security Center/Mali GPU Driver Vulnerabilities https://arstechnica.com/security/2023/10/vulnerable-arm-gpu-drivers-under-active-exploitation-patches-may-not-be-available/ I have a Rockchip RK3399 that may also be affected by this. Can Armbian do anything to help mitigate this problem? A handful of boards use these GPUs.

Even though it says it needs 5V, I ran the board @ 3.3v, it worked fine and didn't require any 3.3v->5v level converters. Here's the code: https://github.com/bitbank2/MAX7219 And a video of it in action: https://photos.app.goo.gl/iO66bsy6Wk13lT1y2

You can connect up to 8 hosts to the device simultaneous. And you can switch between the different inputs. Only one USB connection is needed to your host you want to use as master. A commandline tool is available to control the device. Its also possible to send data through the device to the connected hosts. It works like a normal USB to serial adapter. It is not possible to read the incoming data from all connected hosts simultaneous. I am use it to log the boot process of my cluster nodes [2]…

I know exactly what to fix, except I'm not accustomed to not being able to find the file. I've mounted the SD Card on another Linux OS and can see/mount all my partitions, I have them mounted but none of the /boot directories are what is typically there when armbian is booted. I'm assuming u-boot is an image and /boot gets dynamically created. Done some searching but not making much sense of what I'm seeing. CNX software gave me the heads up on it, https://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=244 More or less looks like a Duo with the following adjustments: 256 --> 512 MB RAM base H2+ --> H3 (uncertain why this matters on a DIP package) Garbage Wifi --> AP6212 Other than WiFi I'm not sure I see a huge reason to go for one over the other. If you're building around a dual-inline package, multimedia is probably low on priorities. On the bright side, supporting this should be trivial if there's a demand, it should more or less only require a device tree for the wifi.

So in armbian-config I can enable /dev/i2c-0 /dev/i2c-1 /dev/i2c-2 but there is only one hardware I2C onboard. Are the other two software driven? If so what pins do you use for SCL and SDA?
