Hi Guys, Just wanted to say I was able to get an Orange Pi Zero installed headless yesterday with Armbian Jessie. Thanks for all the work that made that possible! https://twitter.com/3BX/status/805618612899692544 After install I was able to SSH to it. The KEY aspect (besides the OS itself) was getting Startup Disk Creator for Ubuntu 0. Download and extract Armbian! (it all starts here) 1. Install Start Up Disk Creator on Ubuntu 16.04 (linux) system 2. Put MicroSD in USB MicroSD adapter 3. Connect USB with installed MicroSD to Ubuntu (linux) system 4. Create file system for orange pi zero on MicroSD 5. Insert MicroSD, Power orange pi zero, connect…

I'm considering buying one of these boards for a small home server running Freedombox, which is a Debian-based distribution which is designed to make it easier to set up a home server for a number of uses, including media, contacts, calendars, XMPP and SIP. Has anyone tried installing either Freedombox or Debian on this board?

Hello, I'm going to industrialize a project using currently the Olimex Lime2. This board is great and have exactly what I need, among others, battery charger and SATA capability. However I figured out that I can not use this board as there is no CE compliance and thus can not be sold as a product. I'm looking for the fellowing specifications : Run on battery for around 5-6 hours, so the board needs a battery charger Good computation >= 1Gz at least 2 cores Large RAM >= 2GB SATA connectivity: We need to load large amount of data, between 250Go and 1To, so a SSD driver connected to a SATA port is required Good…

So I'm working on a generic way to do MMIO GPIO on Armbian and chatting with @diozeroit seems like a wiringPi implementation is a good place to start for ideas. Armbian supports many FriendlyArm boards, so I took a look at https://github.com/friendlyarm/WiringNP. Of course out of the box it fails because it's probing for things found only in its home made OS distros. I found a way to hack the getBoardType function to hard code your board type for Armbian and probably other distros. This will work only on the board you hack it for. Honestly there should have been a way to pass in a parameter to override the detection code. In any event here's the method to use. …

Hi, as I have trouble with aging SDCards, I was thinking of getting a new SBC with eMMC (I already have Odroid XU4, but it's not cheap). I'm pretty happy with OrangePi Zero, but would love to find a SBC with a 64bits SoC, Gigabit Ethernet, 1GB of RAM (as 512MB implies swapping for my use case) and eMMC. OrangePi have the 3G-IOT (which is only 512MB) and 4G-IOT, but they are not supported, and I don't fancy all the gizmos that are on these boards. NanoPi M1+ almost fits the bill, but it's a 32bits SoC. NanoPi K1+ is almost perfect, but it's pricey (and has 2GB of RAM, which would not be a problem if it was cheaper). Any suggestion? …

I am new for Orange Pi. I got an Orange Pi Zero board and want to install Q4OS on it. I download the Q4OS image from its official website and load it to the SD card. Hi, I've been looking around for an Arm development platform. Banana Pi seems to be about the best value for money. I've been looking around at some TV boxes. However, I see mixed opinions about these being a option. SBCs seem to be almost twice the price of similar spec Arm TV box. Processing power and memory are mostly my priorities. Anything over 4GB seems insanely expensive. I can do SMD soldering work. So modding at TV box is an option. Are there any options for an 8gb Octa core system that isn't going to cost more than a decent PC?

*editing because i didn't see the documentation* Proper security practices should result in the page that tells you what key to download being https, instead of http where anyone could theoretically easily modify the key ID and thus your download would appear to verify fine. Its 2016 guys, pretty much any server cpu comes with crypt acceleration it isn't that resource intensive.

Hey all, Selling my Helios64 as I've recently upgraded my server if anyone is looking. Fully built, original condition with all drive bays and screws. Sadly no original packaging, seem to have discarded that for some reason and it has been sitting in direct sunlight so has a slither of fading on the top but still working away fine up until a few days ago. Drop me a PM if you're interested or are looking to get some pics. Given it's size and weight I'd only be looking to ship this within the UK, possibly mainland Europe at a push. Thanks

Make Atheros drivers ignore regulatory domain set in EEPROM I found the bottom link https://sites.google.com/site/twisteroidambassador/linux/ath-user-regd "For my purpose I need these two patches: 402-ath_regd_optional.patch and 404-regd_no_assoc_hints.patch. What if there was a pay per use ($5 to $10) build server for building a custom armbian image, including the ability to select: which distro which kernel which kernel modules a choice of server, desktop and server with qtEmbedded (for single UI devices with no windowing) a selection of common software packages (VLC, OpenCV) to be cross compiled the ability to upload an image and cross compile new software against it It could be a web based UI calling the armbian build script, with the best toolchain already installed, and dependencies set to be pulled i automatically (so hard to set up on a case to case basis). Just an idea I had, and it could be a nice new revenue…

Hi, I am an enthusiast of this distro. In this moment I would like to install only CLI version. I write here because I don't want to go off topic. I know that there is the compiler: another very big solution that bring me and attach me at this place! But I am very shure that I will not do the job so well AS Armbian definitively is in the images for the supported SBC. So. I can only deactivate the desktop environment interface or I can start to study hard to build my own Great Armbian CLI version. The problem is that I would have the more RAM free is possible to run another layer software as MINERS or Clusters management. Another reason that we could use the CLI version i…

How to mirror only single distro, single platform on some device itself or local LAN? Lets say some device / network needs to be self sufficient. I have found that minimal requirements are Space needs: 500Gb (images), 100Gb (packages) and (optional) 3TB for archives for https://github.com/armbian/mirror This is done with: rsync -av rsync://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-dl rsync -av rsync://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt Is it possible to make cleaner sync and download only Ubuntu Lunar / arm64?? Hi, I decided to sell my Helios64 full bundle: - Helios64 box (case, board, UPS) - 5 3.5" HDD trays (+ screws) - 2 PSU (the original one and an additional compatible Synology one I bought because I saw some posts where people reported a broken PSU) It served me well during 2 years, however the lack of official support and missing features are showstoppers for me, and I recently replaced it with a custom x86 build. I am sure people here would be interested in it. The Helios64 works perfectly and is in very good shape, it was off the most of the time, I only started it when I needed to make a backup. The board is untouched (I di…

Hi, I'm new to the SoC / Armbian world, and I'm trying to connect to my NanoPC-T4 via UART (Armbian 20.11.7 Focal with Linux 5.9.14-rockchip64). I'm using an ADAFRUIT Industries 954 USB-to-TTL serial cable. The NanoPC-T4 pin spec indicates SPI1_TXD/UART4_TX(3V) as pin 19, GND as pin 20, and SPI1_RXD/UART4_RX(3V) as pin 21. I have hooked up my ADAFRUIT accordingly with the white receptacle (RX) to pin 19, the black receptacle (GND) to pin 20, and the green receptacle (TX) to pin 21. The full NanoPC-T4 pin spec is here: http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/index.php/NanoPC-T4. The kernel command line is as follows: [ 0.00…

I'm looking at the NanoPi R1S, R1, or Orange Pi R1 as a simple bridge device for Zerotier. They all seem to have some limitations that likely mean ~100Mbps either from the 100M ports or the R1S' USB2 connected port so that's fine. I'm most drawn to the R1S for price and included case. Questions are: 1) Are these the only decent <=$30 devices for this task? 2) Is one of these known to be more stable/reliable? 3) Is there a likely software support issue with any of them? The deployment model is pretty simple. Plug WAN in to and DHCP port, have the firewall locked down tight, and bridge a ZT network into the LAN port.

I have this idea that I was researching on for a while. There are 5" FullHD LCD panels available on aliexpress for phones (HTC Drod DNA, HTC M7 etc.) as low as 15$, I thought about driving them with a controller board for interfacing HDMI (opi) <> MIPI DSI (lcd) but couldn't find that much about it. There are DIY Oculus DK1 kits on ali selling for 240$ that includes these boards and a LCD, and there is a hackaday project that sells for 99$ only board. Any thoughts about a cheaper solution? Hackaday project (99$): http://hackaday.io/project/364-mipi-dsi-display-shieldhdmi-adapter Thanks

My MXQ Pro died and I'm looking for a cheap replacement with onboard wifi. My requirement is to run a desktop app (WSJT-X) on a headless device with tightvnc server to my android tablet. WSJT-X uses a soundcard, so I need at least one USB port. Not sure if I can do this but I'd also like the new sbc to be the hotspot that my tablet connects to. In the past I've used a cell phone as a hotspot with the MXQ and tablet connecting to it. It would be nice to remove the cell phone from the equation. Thanks.

@tkaiser I'm looking for advice, I'm looking to use a single board computer of some sorts, to run a lightweight linux distro as a watered-down PC. Standard things like Webbrowsing, Netflix (Youtube, etc...), LibreOffice, etc.. can run on. Additionally I've seen some interesting videos of people running Python and I don't really understand the limitations of these boards. Are one of these boards equivalent to a circa 2000 PC? circa 2005? circa 1990s? Ideally I'd like to run a small standalone PC for day to day tasks and maybe some basic python or other coding environments. There's TON's of info online..which I've tried to go through myself, but again there TONs of info on…

hello dear all , good evening dear Arm-Experts and all Armbian-supporters, normally i am on Banana-Pi and Orange-Pi, on Udoo and Ordoit - all of those run with Arm-Operating-Systems from this great site. today one little question - i have with Raspi: I’ve just purchased a Raspberry Pi 3 and i’ve installed OpenElec onto the raspi so that i can run the Kodi. After this step - after this first step - I’ve succesfully set it all up and i’ve managed to get the USB ports. It seems to be working with a wireless wifi dongle. And that seems pretty fantastic. I am glad about this. So the next thing i did is to add a keyboard.i took a wireles…

Hi, I just got 2 of these. Everything is fine but you need to order power adapter 12V 2A with 3.5mm x 1.35mm connector. Unfortunately due to earlier version of BIOS compare to same looking GeoBook 1E but with dualcore Celeron N4020 it cannot boot from microSD card. Speakers are rubbish but it could be good for some low powered machine projects. And one advice. Do not change "Quick boot" option in BIOS setting or it will not boot and you will need to unplug battery to reset BIOS. It work with both Windows 11 or Linux with no extra drivers mods needed. 5Ghz wifi and bluetooth also included. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166222480445

I'm looking for experience / ideas around an update system. I could pull source from GitHub. I could package up zips, pull them with wget, unzip and overwrite files in the file system with the contents of the zip. Maybe include a script_pre.sh and script_post.sh to run before and after the file copy/replace routine. Any other ideas, suggestions, frameworks?

Hello, [sorry if this is in the wrong forum category] I am a new user and have got my OPi zero running up until the console (starting message), via ethernet. I have used a router with IP 192.168.4.1 as DHCP server, which is not connected to internet. The routing table is accordingly similar to [1] Wifi is not yet set up. When I want to, it should connect to a different AP/router (say operating as 192.168.1.1 seen over wlan0), and therefore also the routes have to be adjusted. My question is: can I delete the default route in [1] while still retaining connection to the Pi via Ethernet? (from the PC which is on the 192…

I have an Odroid HC2 that will be used as a NAS. I plan to run Ubuntu 18.04, which I can get in either Hardkernel or Armbian flavor. Is there a practical difference between them? Is there a reason to choose one over the other?

Yesterday I came across the following - for me - fine project (Demo-Page): ESPTERM Release 2.3.0 Cricket https://espterm.github.io/term.html GitHub-Page: https://github.com/espterm/espterm-firmware Downloads: https://github.com/espterm/espterm-firmware/releases Its a VT100-Webpage-Terminal on a ESP8266-Microcontroller which opens a Accesspoint. You could connect via this VT100-Webpage-Terminal to the TTL-Port of the ESP8266. TTL-Connection is done (like allways in TTL-Connections) with RX,TX and GND I connected my Orange Pi R1 via TTL and 115200 Baud and could "work" at a (max.) Terminal-Size of 80…

As previously recommended by @NicoD I have been trying to download Vivaldi browser for my Allwinner Tanix TX6 TV Box (arm64 architecture) However, the official stable version seems to provide armhf (ARM 32-bit) build only. After some digging, it appears Vivaldi does provide a snapshot build (think of it like trunk / daily build) for arm64 architecture. It can be found here: https://vivaldi.com/blog/desktop/snapshots/ Just select "Snapshot" under the "Desktop" section, and you will always have the latest Vivaldi snapshot build to download and install. Both armhf and arm64 builds are available for your selectio…

I am in the middle of porting a proof of concept app from Raspberry Pi/Raspbian to its (hopefully) permanent home on Orange Pi PC/Armbian, and I am really loving the new environment. Now I need to get my non-standard HDMI display working. It's a 800x800 circular display from China that works fine on my Raspberry Pi once I figured out what the HDMI timings were (they weren't even on the data sheet!). As I learned when configuring the RPi the display does not report its resolution correctly, so it won't work out of the box, but in Raspbian you have the option to force the system to use your custom configuration defined in the config.txt file. I have …

Hello, I am looking to do a diy gameboy running an emulator (eg. retroorangepi). However there're many SBCs out there and I'm not very sure where to stuck. Was about to order the Orange Pi Zero H3 when I realize it has major heat issues which would make it unsuitable for such a usage. What SBC should I use that will ideally: 1) Be really small 2) Doesn't overheat in a small container 3) Has support for gaming emulation

Hi, I’m working on enabling I²S audio output using a PCM5102 DAC on an Orange Pi Zero 2W (SoC: Allwinner H618) running Armbian_community_25.11.0-trunk.334_trixie_current_6.12.47_minimal. Despite several tests and rebuild attempts, I haven’t been able to obtain any sound output from the I²S interface. Below is a summary of what has been done so far. Hardware setup Board: Orange Pi Zero 2W SoC: Allwinner H618 DAC: PCM5102 (I²S input, analog stereo output) Connections: I2S0 → used for DAC (pins LRCK, BCLK, DIN, GND, 3.3V) Confirmed pin mappings according to H618 documentation and available DTS files. For this question the assumption is that a board actually has a maintainer and I think the answer given will be useful for anyone else with the same or similar question. May end up being a candidate for some FAQ list. Question is.... If a board has a maintainer and the user builds the image themselves using the recommended default kernel/compilation option, why is there no support for the built image? Rationale behind the question is if the user decides to change the kernel build options then there would bo no doubt that the user will be on their own with no support, but if the kernel is built with the default hard built options then there ha…

On January 31st I decided to order two EspressoBIN boards with 2GB RAM each. What made me take the final decision was that the pfSense developers got pfSense running on the board (it's still in alpha, but it very much adds value to the board). In addition, Armbian's compatibility page (see the download page) lists two devices that I'm interested in: The USB3-to-Gbit Ethernet adapter. The Mini-PCIe-to-4-SATA-ports card. Note: This card will not be able to reach the full 6Gbit for SATA, but around 5Gbit, which is still quite good. And last but not least; Armbian of course needs some testers on this platform. Here are the t…

For now the #armbian channels on both Freenode and Libera are linked with a simple relay bot. For those who where asking how its done technically: Very simple. Supybot with relay plugin. That's it.

Its a just a proposal. It would be nice to have a anonymous telemetry result that summarize boards and armbian popularity (distro, kernel, CPU from /proc/cpuinfo and memory size, board name if available) Another board's popularity source that is also interesting is a poll about boards in use (board name, development tools) Please star/mark this post to make it important for @Igor

In the past (2019) there was no chance to use the A64-CPU Jide Remix Mini with armbian, because of a blocked -u-boot But today I found a site (from February 2025 on github) https://github.com/r4nd3l/revived_remix_mini_pc?tab=readme-ov-file which can make the Closed Jide Remix Mini to boot from SDCard with a modified u-boot There at the github page is a modified u-boot and a modified A64 armbian for the Jide Remix Mini. Hello, after I've read the NAS topic ( http://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi_devices_as_NAS) and the importance of random I/O performance in the SD card made by tkaiser. I'm here to ask what board can you advise for: During day-time: stream box w/ kodi (resolution 1080) if possible without laggy use During night: running daemon of torrent e.g Trasmission (or NAS server) Never happen that both activities are made in same time. I think that for night-time use it would be recommend use a internal hard disk attached to a SATA port. I don't need high performance of trasmitting data because internet speed here is only ADSL 12Mbps download and 0.8Mbps Upload. The only thing is not …

Can someone tell me what does R6 in this LM358 circuit diagram do? I guess R6 is part of the square wave generator that forms the b diagram. Hi, I developed this app just while having a look at django + angular -> https://github.com/vijaygill/wg-ui-plus I thought of sharing it with open-source communiity which has given me a lot! It allows me to have finer control over what a given VPN client can access (using IP Tables rules - managed by the code itself) I hope somebody finds it useful. It is comes as docker image (published on every push to dev / master) so updates are quite frequent for now due to tweaks / fixes. I developed it on an Orange Pi 5+ running on Armbian . The LIVE instance is running on a Raspberry Pi. …

Hi, I am looking for a device, which has the following hardware: - 2x wifi adapter - 2x ethernet adapter - CSI connector for camera - 2x USB port or 1x USB and 1x USB-C port I know it would be very hard to find such a device, but an option would be to use one USB port and WiFi dongle instead second build-in WiFi and another USB to connect ethernet dogle into it. And for USB-C I can use use an USB-C-to-USB adapter... So at least I would like to find a device with: - 1x wifi adapter - 1x ethernet adapter - CSI connector for camera - 2x or 3x USB port Any ideas?

After talking about "the crazy idea" of use of this boards like light desktops in other thread with @JoeyBeelinkX2 : I start reading about ways to improve the performance. In this way I find an alternative scheduler specially conceived by responsiveness of desktop use, is called MuQSS http://ck-hack.blogspot.com.es/2016/10/muqss-multiple-queue-skiplist-scheduler.html I also find a kernel ready to use on x86 architectures (includes de MuQSS scheduler instead of CFS and BFQ instead of CFQ, while also adding more tweaks for responsiveness like proper QoS over TCP to avoid TCP congestion): https://liquorix.net/#install And my final questions: Can th…

A while ago I did create a armbian-package-information for at the motd of the login: Now the line for the kernel does show 2 versions because there are "Version:" and "Config -Version:" root@npi-neo2-24(192.168.6.24):~# dpkg -s linux-image-$BRANCH-$LINUXFAMILY|grep Version Version: 5.96 Config-Version: 5.96 root@npi-neo2-24(192.168.6.24):~# dpkg -s linux-image-$BRANCH-$LINUXFAMILY|grep Version|cut -f 2 -d ' ' 5.96 5.96 So I had to find another way/command to get the information once I did go back from "dpkg -s" to "dpkg -l" and greped there the version-info: root@npi-neo2-24(192.168.6.24):~# dpkg -l | awk -v env_var="linux-image-$BRANCH-$LINU…

One would normally use the IDE to do so but I can't get the GUI to work in WSL2 (theoretically WSL2 on Windows 11 supports graphical apps). Is it possible to configure the license from the command line? A long shot: has a…

Hi there! I built a new system that automates the control of GPIO pins and makes it easy to switch them. It is fully realtime and based on NodeJS & Socket.io. I hope you like it. Originally supported board types are OrangePi, NanoPi & RockPiS. The Raspberry Pi support is recently published, there may be some bugs. Here is a link to the GitHub repository: https://github.com/ArdaSeremet/SBC-RealTimeIO . Please feel free to tell me about any further improvements. For now, I am working on PWM output support! Take care, be well!
