Just noticed some ugly detail: 1.) the switch is active during boot, and it defaults to all ports on one VLAN. 2.) My laptop is quite agressive when it comes to DHCP, it's connected to one of the local ports of the BPI-R, so it detects immediatly that the ethernet connection goes down and up. 3.) So I end up with the cable modems external IP address on my laptop, and a BPI-R that is unreachable, ... Any idea how to turn off the network switch in the boot loader? TiA, Andreas

I'm running the latest armbian on my Banana Pi M1 as a headless file/media server. My problem is that my Banana Pi would randomly stop working any time of the day. A day would not pass by without me having to reboot my server manually by pressing the reset button. There would still be network activity as the activity lights on the LAN keeps on flashing and it would still respond to my ping requests. I'd know it stopped working if I can't access the server's services anymore through its web ui (webmin, transmission, etc.) and to confirm this I'd try to SSH into it and it wouldn't connect. I tried creating a script where it would restart the LAN if it pinged the…

Hi, I've read a previous topic about it but it was a bit inconclusive. My question is simple: can the OTG port be turned on on the legacy kernel? Is it just a matter of setting up the right bits in the script.bin/fex file? Or is it missing some other stuff? Currently I can use that port on Bananian. Since this board only has 2 USB ports, it's nice to be able to use the OTG port to connect a keyboard, since the other 2 ports have HDDs connected. Thanks and good work!!

  17. I'm running a dockerized VDR server on the BPi, still on bananian. Every time I installed armbian, I had to discover that video playback on remote devices started to stutter. Without knowing about the details, my guess is that this is owed to the fact that the mainline kernel build does not feature hw video decoding. (Though I'm not sure whether bananian had it actually.) Unfortunately I cannot use the legacy kernel build, as docker is not supported on that platform. Is there any chance to kind of enable hw video acceleration on the mainline build? I saw some posts here and there in the forum on that topic, but none seemed really having solved it d…

  18. Hello, First of all thanks for the very nice dist, it's clean and optimized. Unfortunately the Banana Pi is unbootable after having done the following: Migrate the root fs to my USB drive and make it bootable with the nand-sata-install script Change the hostname (modify /etc/hosts, modify /etc/hostname, run /etc/init.d/hostname.sh, reboot) run apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade, reboot Each time the Banana Pi could not boot anymore, and that happened with both Jessie and Wheezie images. I can't get any screenshots of the boot screen because it's a headless server. Any ideas? mk16

I’m using the ARMBIAN version of Debian Jessie on my Banana Pro with a great dose of satisfaction and I have noticed that the message about “system status†which appears on the first SSH Login Screen after each reboot provides a very useful insight into my system. 23. I've noticed some other threads about Banana Pi builds not booting. I tried the 6.12v built on Jun 19 and that's when my device stopped booting. It won't even power on. I suspect the firmware update is corrupting the MicroSD card. I originally had an older build running and ran an update/upgrade and my system wouldn't boot (won't power on) after that. I purchased a new MicroSD card, and my system booted with an older build. Not realizing my MicroSD would get corrupted, I tried updating/upgrading again and I'm back to not booting. 28. Hi! I have banana pro, 5.15.93-sunxi #23.02.2 (bullseye), and use internal wifi adapter as a wifi client. The medium btw my client and ap is instable, there are frequent rate changes (6Mbps...54Mbps), so in order to get rid of it I need to set mandatory wifi rate no more than 6 Mbps. Give me the hint, please: 1. To set wifi rate strictly to 6 Mbps. I had tried iwconfig wlan0 rate 6M - I got "Error for wireless request "Set Bit Rate" (8B20) : SET failed on device wlan0 ; Operation not supported." . 2. To adjust 802.11n parameters (rate, number of spatial streams and so on). Thank you in advance, Aleksei

In legacy kernel 3.4.y there was an easy workaround to change paramter sdc_detmode = 1 to sdc_detmode = 3 in /boot/script.bin file. How would I do this on 4.14 kernel which as I understand doesn't use script.bin anymore? I setup Virtualbox with Ubuntu 18.04 and I can compile image with default options. I only need guidance in what parameter and in which file to change.

Hi! I ended up here: My Banana M1 was working well, connecting to a monitor I was able to see it working. But after I removed the sd card (after turning the M1 off) and inserted into a Windows machine (it couldn't read the linux fs, did not format it) it won't start anymore. Tried with all the recommanded SD card software to test with the slowest method possible to detect errors on it, but no error on the sd card. Tried many times to write with the recommanded balena etcher the currently supported images on the sd card, like: Armbian_22.11.1_Bananapi_bullseye_current_5.15.80.img.xz Armbian_22.11.1_Bananapi_bullseye_current_5.15.80_minimal.img.xz Did check their…

Also GPIO is not working because of the Network Card. I tried to deactivate the Network Card and use an external WirelessLAN Card but the internal Card is still blocking my GPIO's. On Jessie and Wheezy before that was working perfect. Any advise? BR Peter

Hello, my BananaPi M1 sometimes just stops working. The maximum uptime is 5 days. Usually the time is shorter. The system simply hangs. I can no longer access the system via SSH. When I connect a monitor to HDMI, nothing is displayed, so I can log in. I have connected an external hard drive that is self-powered. I know the stories with the power supply. (I know from my Tinkerboard that I have to boot without connected HDMI to start correct. I did this with the bananapi too.) So I tried different variants: Bionic server, Buster server and Buster desktop. I never had a video output. I cross checked with my old raspian lite from 2016. With this image the Bananapi works. 67. Hi, I was on the legacy kernel until recently with my bananaPi M1. I switched to the vanilla kernel but since then, when I try to use the GPIO python library (for bananapi from LeMaker github), it works quite well except for functions gpio.add_event_detect() or GPIO.wait_for_edge(channel, GPIO.RISING) This usually disconnect my network and the event is never detected. I have to reboot the PI to restore the state. Also, a normal read/write state GPIO.input(PIN_NUM) works perfectly... I assume it is due to the vanilla kernel but could not find any documentation on why this is happening... Any answer/comments would be much appreciated! Let me know if yo…

Hi there! I just received three decommissioned BananaPI M1+ from a company and I'm trying to install the latest version of Armbian Buster available on them. Once I flash the image to the SD card (tested and working fine), however, the board goes into boot loop as per the video. The only error that seems to be displayed is "EHCI failed to shut down host controller". If it can be useful to find the cause, I point out that the problem occurs with both Armbian Buster and Armbian Focal regardless of the presence of the "fdtfile=sun7i-a20-bananapi-m1-plus.dtb" line in the /boot/armbianEnv.txt file. What do you think I could do to solve it? Thank you all in advance.

  76. Hello Community! I am struggling with assigning numbers to I2C buses in my BPi, doing the same(?) thing in two different ways i am getting two different results. By default, there is only /dev/i2c-0 node available, AFAIK because HDMI uses this bus. 1. Using build-in overlay for i2c0 bus (overlays=i2c0 in /boot/armbianEnv.txt) enables another i2c bus. In this case, /dev/i2c-0 is the bus connected to pins 3 and 5 at 40-pin header. The other bus (enabled by default) becomes /dev/i2c-1. It doesn't matter how many times i reset my board, assignment doesn't change. 2. The second way is to create my own overlay by cloning this code and …

Actually the ideal solution would be a read-only root file system (with a writable overlayfs on top), so that I can just turn the power off, without risking any SD-card/filesystem corruption. There seems to be an easy solution for that according to this page: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/ section "How to freeze your filesystem?". But the package "overlayroot" that is mentioned there does not seem to be available for Debian (Armbian Stretch). Hello. I'm having trouble with infrared receiver. Whether the sunxi_cir driver installed in kernel or not, there is nothing in /dev/input except "event0", which is the power controller. Dmesg doesn't show anything neither. Version: Armbian 4.5 Lamobo-r1 Debian jessie next (unofficial), kernel 4.2.3. IR support was declared on download web page, so I decided to get vanilla kernel. That's because I had already tried Bananian with 3.18 kernel, and there were huge problems with kernel ppp (up to freezes of whole device). Has anybody encountered this problem?

  97. Hi all, i am completely new to armbian and to be honest not yet completely convinced to change from bananian even that the time should have come. Until now, on my Bananapi M1, bananian was running without any problems. A few days ago, i tried to get familiar to armbian (debian stretch) for the first time on a test-SD-card. Now my problem: Since these tests, i am not able anymore to shutdown my running bananian-system to power off. The system seems to halt, but the power is not turned off and a few seconds later the Bananapi restarts. The problem remains even on a clear bananian1604-image. But: On the testSD-card under armbian the shutdown comm…

When I ssh to my Banana Pi (I / A20) there is a delay of a few seconds till welcome screen / prompt. With Bananian it was instant as still is with second BananaPi with Bananian and all other kind of Pis I have, rock64 with Bananian no delay also, but faster cpu off course. Tried ssh -vvvv and a look at sshd logs, didn't found something indicating an error yet.

  99. Hello, is the last BPi Vanilla wheezy image somewhere still available for download? I want to run it with Open Media Vault, which still needs wheezy. Thanks a lot. Michael

Hello, I'm a newbie an Linux and bananaPI. Actually, i uses an debian wheezy image of Igor's (Bananapi_Debian_2.8_wheezy_3.4.107) with openmediavault and one sata drive. I would like add an sata multiplier on my BananaPI. I find this tuto : http://www.htpcguides.com/rebuild-bananian-kernel-with-sata-port-multiplier-support/ I don't know if this procedure works an the debian image of Igor's ? please confirme me I think the line " git clone https://github.com/Bananian/linux-bananapi.git--depth 1 " isn't good ?
