New user of a Rock64 board, I've tinkered with a RaspberryPi and BeagleBone before but wanted something to set up as a home media server. I flashed the SD card with an "Armbian_5.42_Rock64_Ubuntu_xenial_default_4.4.124" image and it worked perfectly fine at home, connecting to my network, etc. However, I took it to a new location and it straight up refuses to boot. I've tried it on several displays and with several HDMI cables. It hangs for a solid 30-45 seconds after initiating boot with a black HDMI screen, and then turns off and back on dumping a log citing either spinup shutdown errors or a temperature shutdown on Core 0. I've flash…

Thank's for supporting Rock64! Is there a chance for a debian server image (beta) within the near future? All my boards are running a armbian debian OS and I would like to stay consistent here... Best regards Martin

After the next (last) update, the system does not boot, there is no ssh access, and the monitor does not turn on. I just didn't install updates for three weeks and decided to update yesterday What should I do, re-install the system ? The loader is located on the sd card, and the system is on the hdd, using the 4.4.x kernel

I have two Rock64 single-board computers running Focal Fossa. One is stable and the other gets segmentation faults when compiling and sometimes a kernel oops. After some searching, my understanding is this can be fixed by slowing down the memory speed by installing rk3328_ddr_333MHz_v1.13.bin from the ayufan-rock64 GitHub repository into uboot along with possibly rk3328_miniloader_v2.46.bin as well. Unfortunately, I'm clueless how to do this. I'm running the latest Armbian Focal Fossa Server from August 19 with the 5.7.17 kernel. Do I need to build a new image or can I patch an existing SD card? I'm sorry if I there is already a thread on this.…

L.S. After installing Armbian_20.02.1_Rock64_buster_current_5.4.20.7z on my 4GB rock64 running on SD card - I could run for days 2 processes with "openssl speed" resulting in 2 CPU's 100% busy. - But when I added a third "openssl speed" it only takes minutes to freeze the board. - Further the "ondemand" scaling_governor is active (default setting) I noticed that distributed /etc/default/cpufrequtils contains line: ==> MAX_SPEED=1390000 This value is not in the list with valid values for this CPU : ==> 408000 600000 816000 1008000 1200000 1296000 1512000 After updating this to valid value and restart service …

Current issues with Armbian board support: -U-Boot problems (various) Solutions so far: - fix the method of generating idbloader.bin. <--- update: the "release" and "mainline-master" behave significantly differently. Mainline-master behaves as it should as far as writing the bootloader. Release does not.

I'm trying to run the example.cpp that comes with Pine64-CPP but I am throwing segmentation faults. The man-setup() call initialzes the board with the following if statement in the setup() function in gpio.cpp if((uint64_t)gpio_mem % PAGE_SIZE) and the this->gpioMap = statement that uses SUNXI_GPIO_BASE In the example code, I initialize the pin with man->pinMode (PI_GPIO_24, OUTPUT); The pinMode function in gpio.cpp, launches _setPullupdn with gpio=78 and pud = 1. As expected Inside _setPullupdn, the following is set bank= 2 index = 0 offset = 28 The s…

After shelving my Rock 64 I dusted it off and downloaded the latest desktop image with Ubuntu Focal. The latest OS has video artifacts that the older OS did not. I can only describe the issue as "scan lines," but they are random black bars that appear through out the entire screen (as if WiFi is interrupting the signal only there's no WiFi on the device). I would like to know the best way to bisect the issue as I'm fully capable of cloning the repo, building the image, loading the image and testing it out but if there are pointers to simplify the process I'd love to hear. Hoping to give back since this is a community supported board. Thanks.

Hi all. In download section i do see "large heatsink required" for Rock64. Can anyone post any links to eamples of good heatsink with proper size ? I will be migrating "home server" from Cubieboard2 to Rock64 and chasing long-term stable operation. When board just booted and "does nothing", cpu remains pretty cool. However i'd better be prepared. thanks in advance for tips.

I have a ROCK64 4GB Rev. 2. When I flash armbian to a SD card the board will boot fine and I can do basically anything for example apt-get update / upgrade. The board runs fine and stable for several hours. But as soon as I reboot the board, the board will stop booting. There is no HDMI output and no ping response. Even after disconnecting power for several hours. Right now there is no way for me to get it to boot again except for flashing the fresh image to the SD-card. I‘ve tried several SD-cards. I am using the original 5 V 3 A PSU. There is nothing connected to the board except for ethernet and power. Anyone got an …

Hi, I just ordered a Rock64 with 4GB and wanted to hear your recommendations on what image and os I should run it with. I want to use it as my home server with Docker, Samba, Pi-hole, Tvheadend and Tinyproxy. 100 Mbit/s ethernet is enough. What do you recommend?

I have a C++ app that wants to indicate its activity by blinking an LED on the Rock64. How can the LEDs be controlled? The sysfs leds do not appear to be present. I'm okay with libgpiod or sysfs gpios, but I don't know what gpio numbers represent the LEDs. Anyone know? Thanks. Hey guys. I'm totally new to this, used to fiddle with the PI when it came out but not any real serious projects. Just recently I've gotten annoyed on how I play back media and where I have my storage solution so I figured it was time for an upgrade. I've been reading this thread a lot, much respect goes to tkaiser for making such an amount of info available to us newbies. I actually ordered the Banana PI M3 until I read the wikis and this post which lead me to believe that the BPI M3 would make for a fantastically shitty NAS. I had actually ordered it but canceled the order before it was shipped. From those numbers I interpret that th…

My question to the developer: Is there any probability that the native ethernet (gigabit) connection will be working in the future? I think that's the main advantage of the rock64 board (gigabit ethernet AND usb 3.0). Otherwise many other boards will work as well as NAS as the rock64. Thanks in advance for answers!

Hello everybody, bought a Rock64 4 GB recently and I´m not able to boot it with any provided armbian Debian/Ubuntu image. With the Ubuntu Image ethernet doesnt seem to be initialized and with Debian there is activity on the eth port, but no connection, neither of the images show any output on the screen. Also i tried various SD-Cards and different image burning programs. Openmediavault works flawlessly, so I can exclude Hardware issues.

Hey guys, I installed Armbian some months ago in my Rock64 and I had never updated the packages. Yesterday I decided to do an apt update + apt upgrade to update one of the applications I use. I noticed that meanwhile apt updated Armbian itself, and began to ask for a reboot. A few hours later I rebooted the board. At first I couldn't connect due to connection refusal, so I went plugged a keyboard and hdmi on the board to see what was happening. It looks like while doing this I unplugged the power source suddenly, and now the board won't boot the system in this OS. No image or response in the USB keyboard. …

I have installed open media vault on my rock64 and I have a sata3 disc drive connected to the usb3 port. I have tried both armbian and ayufan firmwares and the speed of the samba shares is 30 MB/sec. I know that the system can do more as with FTP I get 100MB/sec. I have tried many samba tweaks but nothing changes, is this the max I can expect?

I'm trying to switch the upper USB port to peripheral mode so I can use the ethernet gadget on it. Has anyone done anything like that before? I've got an issue here https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-build/issues/117 with some of the things I've tried already.

Hi everybody, I recently set up a small server with the Rock64 booting armbian stretch 5.59 stable directly from a 120 GB SSD attached via USB3. Booting is handled with U-Boot from ayufan on the SPI flash. The Rock64 is board revision 2.0, the power supply is the original Pine64 one for the Rock. Besides the SSD, there are no other peripherals connected. The board often (3 out of 4 times) hangs when booting. In this case, all LEDs are lit, the orange network LED will flash and the board is not reachable by SSH and not pingable. My impression is, that it is stuck because the SSD either powered up too late or the USB connection is delayed. However, I…

/usr/lib/dri/rockchip_dri.so just doesn't exist but not really sure if the xorg package is the xenial one or rockchip one. If it is the rockchip one then for some reason rockchip_dri.so isn't being built. On a startx it gives it a good go but always drops out to software rendering because its missing the above.

I installed tvheadend on Armbian 22.08 Jammy and Bullseye using the 5.15 kernel. Tvheadend runs fine for a while and then freezes and disconnects filling the log file with the following message: rock64 kernel : au0828: recv_control_msg() Failed receiving control message, error -71. At first I thought it was a problem with Jammy, but I still had the same problem on Bullseye. So I switched to the legacy kernel 4.4.213-rockchip64 and I do not have the problem. I am using a Rock64 Ver. 2 with usb dvb tuner for tvheadend and it is stable running Bullseye with kernel 4.4.213. I am not sure what changed between these kernel ve…

The strangest thing happened today. I switched of my rok64 rev.2 and connected to my PC to move the files of my USB HDD. My plan was to change the disk format from NTFS to EXT4. Then when i plugged it back in the rock64 wouldn't boot properly. Turns out my USB 3 port isn't working anymore with the USB HDD or any other USB drive. The light comes on for my SSD but fdisk -l doesn't see it. Could one of the firmware updates broken it? UPDATE... I downloaded the latest Ayufun arm64 bionic build and booted from this. My USB 3 HDD was picked up fine. I've gone back to the new Armbian Bionic build and it doesn't wo…

I have successfully gotten Armbian to boot from a USB flash drive on the Rock64 board. I have seen many problems with the Rock64 v3 in the last few days. Many customers have told me that existing Rock64 images suddenly no longer boot in v3. We have verified this and found that apparently v3 can not cope with many SD cards. The booting of eMMC goes without problems. If a customer has bought a new v3 and nothing works, contact us, we will send you an emmc card for the purchase price without any profit. markus@humberg.de

I am running last stable armbian with kernel 4.4.192-rockchip64 on emmc - really everything works nice (only thunderbird is very slow) - thx a lot for your work. The only thing I could not figure out, how I can wake up from suspend by keyboard or mouse. The armbian image uses org.freedesktop.login1.suspend to suspend - normally I am used to upower or pm-utils and there it was until now all the time possible to wake up with keyboard. Its quite uncomfortable to wake up the Rock64 with the power button - hidden, very small hole, I just use now a wooden chopstick for wakeup. Does anybody know, how to configure wakeup-hooks / wakeup-events for systemd …

I got the Rock64 specifically for router-like functionality. In addition to the native ethernet port, I've added two USB3 RTL8153 Gigabit adapters: http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=56&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=326 I've tried multiple 0.5.x and 0.6.x Ayufan images, and also Stretch armbian here (which also uses the Ayufan kernel). I've tried both the 4.4 kernel all these distros come with, and up to 4.17 as well. In all cases I see terrible and unreliable USB3/USB2 and ethernet performance. In the Armbian Sketch image I see 'eth1' go up and down contstantly: …

Hi, I need some guide and steps required (and if possible) to enable hardware acceleration using FFmpeg. Is the only thing I need since the idea is to use this SBC as Surveillance platform (for example, with Motion+Motioneye or Shinobi). Currencly without hardware accel, using 3 rtsp cams uses each 100% of a core (which translate to 300%). I've searching a lot, but I saw hwaccel with others apps, but not in particular with ffmpeg. The initial installation went fine from the flashed image on SD card, and still works fine. However, after using armbian-config to attempt to transfer the OS and bootloader to the eMMC card, nothing actually changes. It says it formats the card and then goes through the process of transferring the files, or at least it looks like it does. But when I reboot it it's still running on the SD card and no files appear to have been transferred to the eMMC. fstab lists the UUID of the SD card and not the eMMC at all; this is also true of the bootenv section of armbian-config. One thing I did notice is that there are some new directories under /mnt : '/mnt/nand-sata-in…

I'm working on a project using the nanopim4v2-current image. I noticed an issue with the available HDMI output resolutions. Only a select few resolutions are available, despite the connected screen advertising support for additional ones. I was also unable to output a custom resolution (for example 1920x538) by adding the proper modeline in manually through xrandr. I've been looking into this for a bit and managed to find a partial solution in Miouyouyou's recent pull request "[RFC] RK3288 : Add HDMI resolutions". Hello, I have a rockpi4 whit armbian 20.08.0-trunk.68 nightly (based on debian buster), I have managed to configure all the system whit out problems and I will admit it's of my liking, but there is a problem I cannot solve whit the headphones. So, the headphone port is detected by pulseaudio, once the hdmi audio is turned off in the configuration the software indicates that the sound is being outputted through the headphones, but it is not, not even garbage sound comes out. I have also tried vanilla debian in the board and the headphones worked perfectly, but whit debian some garbage sound came out even when there was nothing reproducing, witch makes me suspect the headph…

I know that not all features of legacy vendor kernels can be supported in mainline kernels. However, has anyone considered and/or attempted to get the OTG capability working in a current/mainline kernel? I have a couple different projects where I need to have OTG working so I can have the RockPi 4 be a USB device (e.g. mass storage, ethernet, etc.). For the time being this means I can only use the legacy kernels, but I am hoping that might change in the future. There are a number of different RK3399 boards with DWC3 controllers that could benefit from such a feature being available, right? Since I don't understand the kernel/driver/platform glue…

Good day, I'm looking for help adding touchscreen support to the ROCKPI 4 Legacy Kernel and correct screen configuration settings. Im new to SBC development so I'm still learning the build system. I have taken the time to track down, what I believe, are the commits to add basic support for the "Raspberry Pi 7" Touchscreen" to the kernel. I believe their will be changes needed to rootfs so that the display manager recognizes it and sets it up properly. ARMBIAN_BUILD_BRANCH: Legacy Kernel --> https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-kernel/tree/release-4.4.202 RADXA_BUILD_BRANCH: Kernel --> https://github.com/radxa/kernel/releases/tag/4.4.154-110-rock…

Hello, I just apt upgrade-ed my Armbian 25.5 from mid-August to 25.8.1 and it doesn't start after software reboot. It is usually headless, I plugged it into a monitor and all I get is a uboot logo in the top left corner. No message, nothing. The board is the Rockpi 4A. The system is on eMMC 😩 What do I do now to at least roll back ? At worst make a browsable copy of the eMMC ? Thanks! Antoine

Hello all, not sure if this is the right place for bug reporting. I'm getting a kernel panic during early boot (no hdmi initialized at this stage) since october 2024 when doing kernel updates. Hello all, After some time without touching it, I came back to my Rockpi 4B. I installed the latest armbian bionic image on a samsung 64Go card. All seems to work fine for the first boot. But when I try to restart the system I don't get any display on screen. To get it back I need to unplug HDMI plug and re-plug it. Didn't found any conversation about that trouble? But I did not understand what I can do with these codes. I send the link that they gave to me. Thanks for the help. Patch_github

hey, this change https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/2010/files made my rockpi-4b (with 4GB ram) finally stable some time ago DDR_BLOB='rk33/rk3399_ddr_933MHz_v1.20.bin' #instead of 1.24 After messing with rx/tx offloading, this was the solution, no more failed apt and download errors, great! It seems that this change got lost in the transition to the new u-boot / different logical structure or is not needed anymore for the 1GB models it was mentioned originally, see here: https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/f2db96252530d2f5585755b518e7fd020b5f0392#diff-18c1f509b638f24dc14854e6af5173bb Any chance to get it back for rockpi-4…

I noticed today that there are no 23.02 images for the rockpi-4c. The images exist for the 4a, 4b and 4cplus variants but not the 4c. The 22.11 images are the latest for the 4c. The reason I noticed is that on the downloads page for the rockpi4 it is still showing 22.11 as the current images because that page is showing the 4c info, with links provided to the other variants. The fact that it still showed 22.11 caught my eye.

Hi everybody! I have been working for days to ensure that the MIPI-DSI output works with the Raspberry PI compatible display panel (Product OSOYOO which has a Toshiba TC358762 DSI/DP bridge chip and a I2C backlight controller as Focal FT5406). The following overlay works perfectly with the Radxa kernel 4.4.153 and unfortunately not with the Armbian kernel: Linux rockpi-4c 5.8.13-rockchip64. So far so good. Now if you look at the DTS source files of the two kernels, they have a similar structure but are very different in content. I wonder why you now get the idea to reinvent the wheel. The Radxa kernel contains everything that is needed. What is particularly ann…

I plan to upgrade my NVMe memory. I currently boot off it - I set this up using the Armbian installer. Before doing the upgrade I'd like to know that I can boot off my SD card, should anything go wrong with the upgrade. I've tried shorting pins 23/25 to disable the SPI flash but this has no effect. I am assuming that I can complete the upgrade by amending armbianEnv.txt to make the 'rootdev=UUID' line point to the new NVMe's UID? Is there a known solution to my que…

U-boot defaults to "In: serial" and also listens for packets (its assumed that its a keyboard/terminal) so that a keypress can stop autoboot. I am successfully using /dev/ttyS2 after modifying /boot/armbianEnv.txt (Console=Display) and masking the gettyS2 service. The device/system I have connected to UART2 (/dev/ttyS2) periodically sends bytes. Thus, if a remote restart or a cold boot is performed (power glitch or power reset) while that system is connected to UART2, it triggers the abort of Autoboot. Requiring the other system/device to be disconnected from UART2, a cold boot of the RockPi4 and then reconnection of the system/device to UART2. I…

I'm trying to get this rockpro64 board to boot off of pxe/nfs. I'm able to get it to boot into armbian and to the point where it asks for the new root password. But something happens on the device where the network gets disabled which stops the NFS connectivity and the rest of the system with it. All traffic stops on the device and it becomes unreachable. NFS traffic stops, it no longer responds to pings, etc. It's not entirely frozen, for example it prints kernel messages to console if the ethernet is pulled. And after a few minutes the nfs connection times out and it starts printing this over and over. It always happens about 75 seconds…

Board: Nanopi M4 with 4GB OS: Armbian_5.65_Nanopim4_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.162 Boot from SD, rootfs on an external HDD 8TB (WD MyBook). I attached another external HDD (Toshiba 2TB). I have been trying rsync -avh from the Toshiba one to the main MyBook one. It ran for under a minute before reporting files were vanished and exited with errors. It appeared the / is gone. nothing return from ls. Hard-reboot, fsck ran, everything's back to normal. I've been trying rsync with nice -n 20 as well as --bwlimit 10, 1MB. Nothing helped. stress test the board for 10 minutes, (stress -c 4 -m 4 -d 4 -i 4). All looks good. Any help's…
