  1. VPU hardware encode/decode appears to not work on the NanoPC-T4. I know it's a WIP. If there is a Post Installation Procedure I could do that would work for me.

  2. Hi, i'm trying to compile an u-boot for my Rock-PI 4B. I wanted to apply a userpatch, that disables the uart debug console in u-boot. The following image boots fine from microSD card on my RockPI4a (2GByte): https://dl.radxa.com/rockpi/images/third-party/Armbian_5.67_Rockpi4b_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.154_desktop_20181210-gpt.img.gz Unfortunately, that images' kernel does not seem to include an AHCI driver, so it does not find the 5 SATA port miniPCIe controller. i am using. That controller is working (mostly) fine with the Radxa provided 4.4.100 debian kernel though. So, i tried to install the following current images: https://dl.armbian.com/rockpi-4a/Buster_current https://dl.armbian.com/rockpi-4a/archive/Armbian_19.11.5_Rockpi-4a_buster_current_5.…

Hello all, I have a question today regarding ARMBIAN - Linux and the configuration of the ZRAM .... Under the ARMBIAN for RockPI 4 I have a ZRAM for the SWAP and a ZRAM for /var/log. Is it possible that I change this configuration and use the eMMC memory for these two areas? Because the big problem with /var/log is that it is simply too small and thus constantly runs into "ERROR" -> volume full. Thank you very much and I am looking forward to constructive contributions to solve my problem. Kind regards

hello everyone, i just received a new nano pi m4 4G with it's 13M camera module, the problem is that when i try to list the connected camera ls -lrth /dev/video* it shows only the usb cameras, does anyone knows how to get it working on armbian "Linux nanopim4 4.4.172-rk3399 #22 SMP Tue Jan 29 07:00:38 CET 2019 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux" thanks in advance

  6. Hi everyone ! I'm really happy with my Helios64, running fine with no major issues. BUT This product can obviously be improved with future revisions, while keeping the same base. The Kobol guys told me to open a thread here to discuss what would be great improvement or new features. I'm starting with things off my mind, but please ask me to add things to this list. An explanation would be great in the comments.

Hello everybody, bought a Rock64 4 GB recently and I´m not able to boot it with any provided armbian Debian/Ubuntu image. With the Ubuntu Image ethernet doesnt seem to be initialized and with Debian there is activity on the eth port, but no connection, neither of the images show any output on the screen. Also i tried various SD-Cards and different image burning programs. Openmediavault works flawlessly, so I can exclude Hardware issues.

I’m helping my friend set up Helios64 with OpenMediaVault as a media server. We’d manage to set it up as per your documentation mentioned on your wiki page but are stuck on SD-Card to eMMC migration. As after migrating with no error so far we’re still unable to boot the system without the SD-Card in Helios64. We still couldn’t figure out what could be the problem? Can you guys help?

  9. Have an OPi 4B with installed Armbian (Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepi4_buster_legacy_4.4.213_xfce_desktop.img from here) which is working perfectly. HUGE thanks for that. So i wanted to try images with mainline kernel and found that none of XFCE desktop images from the archive can correctly output HDMI signal for my screen, maximum i could achive was compressed and flickering image using method from docs (editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-monitor.conf). by default there are no modes in /sys/class/drm/card0-HDMI-A-1/modes in mainline images and in legacy one there are two: 1280x800p60 and 1280x800p57. EDID is there in both images. And if i set resolution via /…

Hi, I wanted to convert my root filesystem to btrfs. This allows me to use snapper to take regular snapshops. I also use btrbk to send my snapshots to my secondary storage (also a btrfs array). My root filesystems is installed to eMMC, but there isn't any reason you couldn't do this with an sd card. These instructions are done with a laptop running Linux. I'm using Debian in this case, although any distro with a recent kernel and btrfs tools installed should work. CAVEATS: The current u-boot image (2020.08.21) doesn't support booting natively to btrfs. u-boot *does* support btrfs though. Hopefully a future build of u-boot will add btrfs…

  11. If so how'd ya do it!?!? My personal experience had been a rock solid device on the original official Debian Armbian image (Linux Kernel: 5.10), and OMV5. It never went down unless I manually rebooted, and I never needed any CPU governor changes, voltage changes or otherwise to keep it stable. Reading so much stuff about OMV5 being end of life made me pull the trigger on upgrade to OMV6 along with the kernel upgrade that OMV did automatically, at the time unaware of the state of Kobol and Armbian support. Now I get about 1-2 days on average before it KPs and I have to hit the reset button. Tried the CPU underclocking, performa…

I am using 7 Raspberry-Pi 3B+ boards as nodes. I would like to implement and test boinc-client-docker, (https://github.com/BOINC/boinc-client-docker). I am new at this and running into overheating issues, (temps over 70C as reported by htop), when all 6 cores are maxed out at 100%. I can keep the board slightly below 70C if I add multiple fans pointed at the heat sink, however I would like a better solution. I was wondering if setting the max frequency of the co…

Hello, These boards (Radxa Rock 2F and Rock 2A) have standard support so there should probably be a forum section for them. In its absence, I created this topic in the section for the most "similar" board. Currently, we only have the `vendor` kernel available for both. It seems that both of them have been mainlined in 6.18, as seen here for example: https://www.cnx-software.com/2025/12/01/linux-6-18-release-main-changes-arm-risc-v-and-mips-architectures/ The config file for the board currently looks like this: # Rockchip RK3528 quad core 1-4GB SoC WIFI/BT 0-32GB eMMC BOARD_NAME="ROCK 2F" BOARDFAMILY="rk35xx" BOOTCONFIG="rock-…

  15. Hello, nanopc t4 folks, Some, not so long time ago, I worked on fusb302.ko driver and device tree improvements in order to make USB Type-C port working properly in the mainline 5.* kernel. I managed to get DisplayPort over type-C + some general type-c handling improved before my board simply died. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish all the planned work and cannot continue further However, I guess, working DP is already fairly good achievement that might be interesting for many of us. 25. Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to switch from the current branch to the legacy one as I've read that the board will be much more stable with the older kernel ? I've installed my NanopiM4 last march, and I've experienced some random freezes of my board after some time (can take weeks). It seems that one of my solutions would be to use the legacy kernel as it is much more stable - information I got by reading the forums (something I haven't done before because I'm stupid and was in a hurry...). Morning all, so I got myself a FriendlyElec CM3588 NAS board for testing and in the end integrating in my homelab. I tried a few Armbian images - FriendlyElec suggests the NanoPi R6S image and I tried the NanoPC T6 image. Both boot but both have some issues, e.g. no USB connectivity and no HDMI out (T6). While not a being developer or SBC specialist, I am a Linux user since 1995 (server)/1996 (desktop) and I am used to some pain, tinkering and problem solving. Is there any kind of "getting started with a new board"- or similar document that I could use as a starting point to tinker with this board? Any hints, advice? Of course I could use the …

  27. My Helios64 has been booting from an M.2 drive since I got it, and while I've been doing regular apt-upgrades I've been ignoring the bootloader. This post suggests that could be a problem, so I figured I'd upgrade the bootloader through armbian-config. Trouble is, I can't. I can load armbian-config without error, but when I go into System there's no Install option any more. All I have are Freeze, Nightly, Lowlevel, Bootenv, CPU, Avahi, Hardware, Other, SSH, Firmware, ZSH, Default. Is there another way to ensure the bootloader is up-to-date?

It worked on an SD card, but when I loaded it on an NVME drive on the build in M.2 slot, it worked with neither the SPI Boot image with armbian-install.sh, nor the SPI image from radxa. When I have SPI loaded, and I have the SD Card installed, it just seems to load from the SD Card. When I remove the SD card, and boot the system. It seems to just stay with the LED with the blue and green elements on. I've waited several minutes without it booting. I was able to get it to successfully boot once, but never again.

  31. Hello, I want to try out Armbian OS as opposed to Ubuntu Artful 17.10 on my Rock64, mainly to see how it compares(I am aware Armbian minimal for Rock64 is derived from Ubuntu Xenial, but I understand it's optimized for ARM CPUs) Long story short, I have a 32GB eMMC and a eMMC to USB adapter from Pine64 and would like to run Rock64 Armbian off it, but I was unable to simply flash Armbian to it using 'dd' or Etcher as with ayufan's Ubuntu images. 34. Hi, I would like to share my recent work: a cheap USB Audio Class 1.0 (UAC) input to UAC 2.0 output converter. For folks that may not understand why I have this crazy idea, here is the background: For some shitty reasons, PS5 does not support outputting audio through certain USB sound card, and that is because PS5 only supports very old USB sound card (UAC 1.0), and usually high end speakers or sound cards would use newer, better UAC 2.0 protocol. So, this shitty thing happens to me, when I thought my EDIFIER S880 speaker would be a plus for my gaming experience. EDIFIER S880 has a UAC 2.0 in input source, so my PS5 does not support that. So, what I …

I don't see that the aic8800-sdio-dkms_3.0+ module works on the Rock 3c, in spite of the latest update. See my dkms build log below. Hi everyone, I'm trying to get 4k output from my NanoPi M4. I have tried (using a Steamlink HDMI cable) directly connected to my TV (to eliminate my receiver as a point of failure/bugs) to get something to output to the screen in 4k. I haven't succeeded. What information I've gathered so far: There are two "vops" a big and little, and the little one is not designed to, and cannot output 4k (there was a patch hacking that into vopl but I never dared test it and can't find it now). There was this change setting the maximum resolution to 4k in a file/subdirectory I cannot find in recent kernels anymore: https://patchwork.ozlabs.org…

Hey folks, I ordered an Orange Pi 4 a couple weeks ago, and it showed up on Wednesday. Last night I started tinkering around with to see if I could get Armbian up and running on it. First thing I did was to hook up my USB-to-TTL debugger to it (no SD card inserted). But when I powered it on, all I'm getting over the serial connection is garbage. With my other OPi's, I'm used to getting U-Boot messages -- but this was far from that: The garbage settles down after about 30 seconds. When I have it hooked up to my Windows machine, I get a new device called "rk3399-mid" that appears in device manager. I tried grabbing the i…

I've been trying to get OMV setup on the Helios prior to adding my hard drives and I keep getting errors and communication failures when I try to do pretty much anything. I like OMV for it's GUI, but honestly, I've never been a fan of it functionally. Is there anything comparable to it that works with the Helios64? Anyone have any suggestions how to fix it? I have logs but I don't see a place to attach them.

  53. I have installed OMV via armbian-config (software). After that I tried to install Nextcloud the same way. In the process I noticed that Apache2 does not start due to a port mismatch (port 80). I was able to determine that obviously the web server nginx is already installed and used for OMV. Can someone please explain to me if this is intentional or if I made a mistake during the installation? Is it possible not to install OMV and Nextcloud in parallel? How can I solve this?

  54. Hey guys, I figured it was time to ask again... Does doing an `apt full-upgrade` from Buster to Bullseye break anything like before a year ago? I kind of want to do it, but not if the eMMC issues are still around. I really prefer not using the slower SD card method. And i also want to ask about stability for people that still use a Kobol with Armbian on Bullseye. Any pertinent issues with anything? A few people on here have claimed that they have gotten the vanilla Debian kernel to run on the Helios64, but I'm not sure how... Sure would be great if the vanilla Debian distro worked on this board, but I doubt that'll ever happen... I love…

After kernel version 6.12.6, the overlay to enable SATA on the PCie is not included in the build anymore. So https://github.com/armbian/linux-rockchip/pull/237/commits/5bdf4a4243e6c149290cdd2c8f5a7d1a1946670e is not effective anymore. The existing .dts can be compiled and works with kernel 6.12.10-current-rockchip64 and 6.13.0-edge-rockchip64, but then NVMe is not enabled. From Rock3A schematics and RK3568 datasheet I see that there is no reason that it could not work as the NVMe is on independent PCIe 3x2 lanes in the M.2 M-key connector. PCIe 2x1 lane meant for WiFi/SATA is on E-key connector. It looks like 'entity PCIe is mixed up' somehow.…

I write the eMMC in the classic way: xzcat Armbian_23.8.1_Rockpi-4b_bookworm_current_6.1.50.img.xz | sudo dd of=/dev/sdb bs=4M status=progress; sync but nothing seems to happens, i have only the green led on, the blue led is not blinking and the display says "no hdmi signal". No problems with the image from radxa. Do you have any idea what's going wrong?

  97. Hi, I just bought a Rock Pi4B v1.4 recently. I tried to boot it with https://dl.armbian.com/rockpi-4b/Debian_buster_default_desktop.7z and https://dl.armbian.com/rockpi-4b/Ubuntu_bionic_default_desktop.7z However it was all in vain. I also had tried SDCard and emmc but none of them worked. Any suggestion? Thanks

  98. Hi Team, I hope you're all keeping well. I'm into my first foray into armbian, and I'm having trouble just getting it to boot on my Nanopi R6S. My procedure: Format microSD card with the SD Card Formatter from the SD Association Burn image to SD card with balena etcher Eject microSD reader from my PC Pop microSD into the device and apply power When it boots into the FriendlyELEC image: the SYS lig…

Greetings to the happy owners of the rock 5b. Tell me if the rock 5b turns off the power to all its components when shutting down. I understand that the power from the external power supply is still being supplied. And what happens to the devices on the board: ssd, fan, wifi etc.

  100. I have a 5B and it came in a kit with the 10.1" touchscreen because I wanted to try to do a kiosk. I used Armbian Lunar rolling to get the OS installed on the emmc but I haven't been able to get the touchscreen working. It uses a breakout board to split the LCD2 connector into two connections on the display (I'm assuming one is touch and one is display) and when it's all plugged together, nothing happens. I've tried enabling and disabling both orangepi5lcd dtds and it doesn't help. When I do a dmesg (regardless of the screen being attached) I have Goodix i2c error for touchscreen@14 I've been doing Rockchip SBCs …
