Hi folks I'm running a fresh install of the Debian branch with 5.X Kernel branch. I got 2 new 4TB HD setup with MDAM in RAID 1 mode to store my photo and documents with Syncloud also running on the HELIOS64. I Got also a 2,5 Sata drive mount and share via Samba to my home network. My Helios64 is plugged via the 2,5GB Ethernet port directly to my Router on the 2,5GB port. I didn't fix the hardware bug, but if I understood it's not necessary in my case ( 2,5GB Ethernet on a 2,5GB Ethernet Router) My problem is that on the same router I got an Apple TV (on ethernet port too) with Infuse app on IT. And there is the problem I got big…

HI all I just received my Helios64 and built it this weekend. I followed the instruction and everything was going well. After installing OMV i tried to access it via the network and realised that my unit wasnt connecting over lan. I have tried both ports on the back and i am unable to connect just get the flashing orange light (no green light). I have tried using different cable and different ports on the router, a network restart, system restart but noting. If anyone can offer a suggestion of what else to try it would be appreciated.

Hello guys Been using Armbian on my RockPi 4b as a media server for few months now and took every update up until the latest 25.5.0-trunk.185 Now this was made with apt upgrade command and after I reboot, system no longer boots at all, freezing on initial boot stage. No HDMI sign at all also. If I plug an old armbian that I have on sdcard, I see U-Boot screen for few seconds, then reboots (basically bootloop). OS was installed to internal eMMC. Downgraded back to Armbian_community_25.5.0-trunk.131_Rockpi-4b_bookworm_current_6.12.16_minimal from github and all is running fine, but again after upgrade command, same thing happens. Not that …

I have 2 issues in LibreOffice installed by default in Armbian, running on RockPi 4B. First: special characters aren't working. Second: filenames or folders using special characters are not recognized - therefore I can't access or edit my files, and even can't save files with special characters... anyone has a tip to solve these two issues? Thanks a lot

Hi, Around the forums, I've seen that some people have been successful in running the lima driver on Amlogic or Allwinner hardware: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/14180-bananapro-lima-driver-problems/ https://forum.armbian.com/topic/11424-playing-with-limamesa-mali-drivers/ However, I couldn't seem to find any posts with Rockchip hardware, specifically the ROCK64. I tried to enable it myself by doing the following, but was unsuccessful so far. enable kernel module lima via "sudo modprobe lima" update /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/01-armbian-defaults.conf as below per the lima wiki instructions (also tried w/o the "Device" secti…

This report applies to NanoPi-4 RK3399 boards (NanoPC T4, NanoPi M4, NanoPi NEO4) running Armbian Bionic (Friendlyarm-based legacy 4.4.y kernel). In other words, boards targeted by Armbian rk3399.conf and Friendlyarm kernel but *NOT* baords using rockchip64.conf and Ayufan kernel. There is a bug in the friendlyarm linux 4.4 version of /scripts/package/builddeb that causes the linux-headers package to be incomplete. First a short introduction I am a Linux Noodle i recently bought my first sbc nanopi m4 v2 arm powerd board idialy i would use linux fx to transit from windows envirement to linux. However most information (youtube Nico D) about using my new sbc uses Armbian as os.So i decidit to use Armbian to start with this topic will be a collection of noodle questions 1)Armbian and gui...i find the default desktop plain ugly... can i instal a other like cinnamon if not what other options do i have?(i dont care that mutch about resource use). 2) I know Armbian overclocks bye default to 2ghz/1.5... however can i go higher with armbian if s…

My plan is as follows: - Insert SD card. - Make a clone / back-up of boot and system using armbian-config whenever I'm about to do something major. (boot and system are both on eMMC) - "unclick" SD card and leave it in the back. - (repeat, until something breaks, and then just insert it and restore using armbian-config if something goes wrong.) I am confused by the eMMC to SD card path though. Hi, I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I had a functional Armbian distro on the Rock5B working from the SDCard, and after installing it on the NVMe (which does not boot), I restarted the board from the SDCard (after having removed the NVMe), and I lost my network connections. Hi guys, I recently bought a Rock PI 4 and installed Armbian Buster with kernel 5.4.6. The os is booting fine but I am facing major performance issues when trying to download from the internet. I have also a Raspberry Pi 4 connected to the same switch (via LAN) and when I execute the following command curl -L http://speedtest.belwue.net/1G > /dev/null I am getting download speed of approx 8MB/s on my Raspberry but only 2MB/s on my Rock PI 4. From connection side and rooting there is no difference. While using the same Armbian version on my Rock64 I am getting the same speed as my Raspberry Pi. Is this a known problem with the Rock PI…

Hello everyone! I need help. I was very happy to learn that Armbian support is now available for the Luckfox Lyra Ultra W! https://blog.armbian.com/github-highlights-5/ This board has 8GB of EMCC memory and the firmware needs to be loaded onto this EMCC. Hello everyone! Saw that some luckfox boards were getting supported and I was like: YES!!! Flashed an sd-card with the community image. Latest I could find is 25.11.0-trunk.413. And plonked in my working Luckfox Lyra Zero W and it failed to boot. From what I gather there seems to be a missing partition called "misc" and I think it is expected about after the current unallocated 16MB(16,777,216 bytes). I tried creating a 4MB partition after the current unallocated space but it complained about something called "Magic" and my limited u-boot/rockchip/embedded linux experience made me get lost there. This is the serial output: Whe…

I got the Helios64 and was running it from an external SD card so far since when I first installed it, the other options where not available, yet. I'm running openmediavault 5.5 (Armbian 20.11.6 Buster with Linux 5.9.14-rockchip64). Now, I wanted to move the system to a SSD and installed a "Crucial MX500 1TB CT1000MX500SSD4" according to https://wiki.kobol.io/helios64/m2/ Unfortunately, the SSD is not detected by the system, see output of dmesg below. For ata1, it only shows SATA link down. Is there anything I can do to figure out what the problem is? Or is there any reason why this particular SSD would not work? ~$ dmesg | grep ata [ 0.000000] M…

Hello, If I unplug my M1 for the whole night. When I power up It does not start the first time. It stays stuck on the hardkernel splashScreen. If I power cycle, it starts as it should. I'm booting on the SD card and system is on nvme. System is up-to-date. Do you have any idea of what may happen? Thanks Julien

One of my boards gave up today - I was just connecting the SATA power cable to the hat and no leds came on - no sound or smoke just nothing - I tried several times to re power it and all I saw on a couple of occasions was a very faint flicker of the leds -so I guess it's dead.

As the other thread is getting a bit cluttered I thought I'd start a new one. Thanks to the good work of @pask and others we now have a working image for the M4 v2. However, despite following instructions to the letter. I can't get the board to boot from the eMMC card, in fact I don't think the board even recognizes the card ( I've tried different ones ) Also not being able to connect via a serial cable is hampering my attempts at debugging the boot process. Cany anyone put up a Muppets guide on the steps required to achieve this ?

Now the mainline u-boot has decent pcie and pcie phy driver for rk3399. The only deficiency is the clock of pcie phy not included. The first attached patch add this clock so that u-boot proper can load linux kernel residing in an ext4 partition of nvme ssd.pcie_phy_clk.patch The second patch enables loading the environment from a file in an ext4 partition of nvme ssd.env_nvme.patch More conveniently the u-boot proper(u-boot.itb) could be an ordinary file residing in an ext4 partition of nvme ssd. The idbloader(tpl/spl in spi/emmc/sdcard) could load it if pcie nvme support is enabled in spl. That's the third attachment.spl_nvme.patch Th…

I have managed to install mainline u-boot on my 5B. i copied the 5It boots from both MMC and the SD. To boot from the sd, you have to interrupt the boot process and tell it to boot from MMC0. the default boot order is: mmc1 mmc0 nvme scsi usb pxe dhcp spi I've tried a number of things to correct the issue but none worked. In the aliases section of rk3588s-orangepi-5b.dts, I had to device sdchi as MMC0 (it really is MMC1). Not it boots like it should. Is there a better way to get u-boot to boot from SD card first? Thanks!

I want to use the mainline u-boot spl to load the u-boot proper(u-boot.itb) from nvme, so that the only part off the nvme is the tpl/spl in the emmc/sd/spi flash. But now the mainline u-boot has no pcie driver and no nvme support in spl. I have found the radxa guys using their u-boot in spi flash to boot kernel from nvme. But their pcie driver(https://github.com/radxa/u-boot/commit/096f2c16bbfa24c93a4c87e31334d5b5064dfd0a) has a limitation: It can not be used in u-boot spl, or it would not function properly in u-boot proper and fail the boot. After some frustrating tryings and compare with the linux driver, I found that the port initialization proce…

So, I tried to adapt @Kwiboo and @jernej patches on my 5.6 branch, but this made the kernel fail to boot for no visible reason. Since I were able to boot it without the VPU patches, I'm convinced that it's their readaptation that broke something. The patches applied are here : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy64 If someone wants to play with them and determine which one break the boot process.

@prahal There are two versions of the bootloader in the repository (edge and current). I just tried the current u-boot from the repository. It works but dmesg outputs seven of the following messages: [ 9.674633] rockchip-i2s ff8a0000.i2s: Could not register PCM This note mentions that such error messages could mean that DMA and sound are missing in the linux kernel, could this be ignored ? P.S.: Those messages are not thrown if the recommended bootloader (linux-u-boot-edge-helios64_22.02.1_arm64) is flashed to emmc.

I've tried installing k3s on my OP5Pro and it did not work out because I was missing a couple of things on the kernel. I read the docs on building a new kernel. Did that and was able to get a working 6.1.75 kernel. Even though i got some errors when installing the generated packages. What I did not find in the documents is how I can work on a new kernel. Say 6.11. Has anyone done this? Can you help me out? Thanks! P.D. On a side note. I built this kernel in the OP it self and it was kinda slow. What image can I load in vmware under a macbook air m3 to compile and build faster?

Hey everyone, for the past couple of days I've been looking into the Mesa-VPU script made by AmazingFate that's used to patch Mesa/VPU onto a custom build of Armbian. https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/main/extensions/mesa-vpu.sh I already have an install of Armbian (Debian XFCE 6.12.28-current-rockchip64 ) on my Rock5b and was looking into applying as much as I can without re-building an image or starting from scratch. From my understanding, You'd need the vendor rk3588 kernel if you want the best possible compatibility with things like the VPU for multimedia acceleration (Someone please correct me if this is not the case lol) What follows is w…

On my NanoPi-R6C I have been doing several U-boot updates (writes with dd to areas in 1st 32k) and so far so good. But behavior has changed w.r.t. eMMC v.s. SD-card. I want to do some U-boot build config changes, so the risk it that something might go wrong and I would need USB MASKROM mode to do writes to eMMC I think. The NanoPi-R6C wiki is not very clear with 'connect USB', but it turn out that this should be a connection via type-A to type-A and it does not work in the USB2 port. I have a USB2-only type-A to type-A cable and used that. The NanoPi-R6C appears in the USB device list ('lsusb') and also the tool is seeing the device: /tmp/up…

I am unable to play files over SMB, but I can't seem to figure out what the problem is exactly. From what I can tell it *seems* ffmpeg is compiled without networking support, at least this is what smplayer was complaining about: [ffmpeg] Protocol not found. Make sure ffmpeg/Libav is compiled with networking support. Failed to open smb://192.168.1.1/transmission/myfile.mkv. Exiting... (Errors when loading file) But when I look at the ffmpeg switches it was compiled with: --enable-libsmbclient and seems to be present. Now I'm a complete linux n00b, does anyone have an idea ?

The alpha version of Armbian images for R57 with kernel edge 6.15 is now available Kernel is powered by HW panfrost acceleration on Gnome (wayland) and on XFCE (x11). Hello people I would like to share my experience with the Mekotronics R58 mini PC (RK3588 box, in my case with 8Gb RAM and 32Gb EMMC). For a more review like post see NicoD's video review here on the Armbian forum: he just reviewed the new MonkaArmbian on this board. I got the Download links from NicoD, and in the meantime they are also on the official Mekotronics support site. I just want to share my experiences with others. So first I played a bit with Adroid 12, that came with the box. Android is the best supported OS for this box, performance wise. Video and emulated gaming seems to work great also 4K. But I wanted Linux on it, so I installed Debian from …

Is there a method to boot with BSP kernel (the 4.4 kernel supplied by Rockchip/Radxa) on an existing install (jammy) to compare power usage to mainline kernel (5.15.y current or even 5.19.y rolling)? I tried using the switch kernel support in armbian-config, but the linux-image-legacy-rockchip64 4.4.213-rockchip64 just hung during early boot and had to recover to linux-image-current-rockchip64 5.15.69 . P.S. This is related to my question on the Radxa forums about reducing Rock Pi 4 B+ power usage.

Is there an accepted procedure for moving from using ramlog to logging to disk? I've looked but everything I can find is about setting up ramlog. I assume it's more complicated than just creating a partition (or ZFS dataset) and mounting it /var/log, disabling ramlog, and rebooting.

Hey, I have uninstalled cron from my system completely, but I just thought I might help contribute, even just a little, by making some services and timer files to replace the ones in these folders: /etc/cron.d /etc/cron.daily /etc/cron.hourly /etc/cron.weekly Now keep in mind that I have not fully tested any of these yet! I would appreciate feedback in testing these, since most of these I won't even use on my system. I barely even use the armbian-config utility at all, so... yeah... The files in question are these. Let me know if I should add more: armbian-truncate-logs armbian-updates armbian-ram-logging The…

This is info from your www page download section.: "to boot from SD card you need to press and hold a button on the back side of the board and power on. This erases bootloader on eMMC and now you can boot from SD. In case of troubles use this tool to restore stock bootloader." I have downloaded Armbians image. Program Linux upgrade_tool cant flash it.... Loading firmware failed... of course i press recovery button from the bottom of hardware. RK_Android_Tool also not recognize img file. /proc/sys/crypto doesn't exist, so anything checking the status of /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled fails terribly. (Specifically trying to bring up a FreeIPA server which includes tomcat-based Dogtag CA, it checks for FIPS during setup, dies). I see there is an rk_crypto kernel module available, so I don't know why /proc/sys/crypto itself is missing. I tried 'modprobe rk_crypto' and it loaded (appears in output of 'lsmod'), but /proc/sys/crypto still doesn't exist.

Last night we lost power to the whole house, I had to manually start the NAS and when I tried to access my data there was nothing but empty shares. After checking OpenMediaVault Web UI and checking around, the file system status shows as "missing" and there is nothing under RAID Management and all the disks show properly under Storage > Disks. The NAS is set up as a Raid 6 on ext4 with five 12 TB drives. For starters, I wonder why the internal battery did not graciously shut down Helios64 as to avoid this from happening given that power outages are a rather common issue. Then, how do I get my file system back? After browsing some for…

Hi, In a bid to solve an issue with my NAS (which I now think was a dying HDD) I foolishly decided to upgrade from buster to bullseye and now most, if not all, of the services are failing to start - including network-manager, sshd and fancontrol so I only have access via the USB serial console. By setting a static IP I have been able to get it network access at least. When I try to start any of the dead services it hangs for a minute or so, then kicks me back to the login and the terminal is corrupted so I need to reboot before I'm able to do anything meaningful. (I am able to start fancontrol by just running `fancontrol` at which point the fans stop going at 100%, s…

Hello all. I've made a video about the Rock64. I've tried different distro's, but Armbian was the best for me. The only problems I've found was that Synaptic Package Manager didn't work. It crashes when I press the search button. And sometimes surfing was extremely slow. Otherwise it did fix all the problems I've had with the other distro's I've tried. Thank you for all the great work. Now I've started my research with the Orange Pi +2, and again Armbian is the best choice. Greetings, NicoD Here is my video.

Hi, My PC doesn't recognize my tinkerboard S. Would this be a problem with my tinkerboard or my PC setup? The red led is on when I connect the power cable. A USB-C cable connects the tinkerboard to the PC. However, the PC gives no response when the USB-C cable is plugged in nor do I see anything under device manager indicating a COM port connection. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry to repeat another case of this. Have attempted a few times to move boot from SD card to eMMC before the SD card fails. I did according to the wiki doc with nand-sata-install. Since I have OMV, I excluded the exports, and also afterward copied the salt and pillar. Also, in another attempt, on suggestion from another thread, I updated the boot loader and copied again. I can boot to my SD card, mount the eMMC, and see the root structure. From what I can tell in reading the boot output, it can't find any storage device? 4 USB Device(s) found scanning usb for storage devices... 0 Storage Device(s) found But I can see it whe…

Greetings everyone, I am new to the forum. I have recently completed an initial boot of Armbian 20.11.3 (stable) which appeas to be Debian Buster under the skin. I have a Sabrent 256GB NVME ready to go (works on other Rk3399 boards and my Pinebook Pro). I am booting from a 64GB uSD card. Using Armbian-config, I was able to update my board's SPI u-boot to mainline and rebooted to confirm I didn't mangle the SPI. The next step was to run the nand-sata-install.sh script to get it to copy the root and boot filesystems onto the NVME drive. While everything has worked so far and I copied the latest nand-sata-install.sh script from Github yesterday (when…

Greetings, I can't seem to find any documentation on how to access the only PWM port on the Nano M4 which happens to reside on the 2nd set of pins. It's listed as GPIO2 and the PWM pin is pin 23 which they label as GPIO_C6/PWM1(3V). SInce any documentation I find on GPIO has to do with the 40 pin port, how can I program the PWM using wiringPI-Python? I wonder why Nano chose to disregard the other PWM pins that other Raspberry Pi type boards retained like the Asus Tinkerboard. Or am I missing something? If so, can someone enlighten me as to how to access PWM on the Nano M4.

Hi all, I discovered this distro through FriendlyElec and I think it is the perfect hybrid of deb and wrt, but the only image is a file system, it doesn't even boot. All FriendlyElec's official ones are from 8 partitions with: boot, rootfs, kernel, etc, this one has everything in one and I don't think it's good for a mini device that runs in blocks like any openwrt. Has anyone installed on the r5c? How, is there a clean way to recreate the partitions? (note on boot: I turned on with sd and mask calc, steady red light, and eth mail router doesn't see it either. We are evaluating many boards for Industrial purpose, often fails to pick the right one, form Raspberry PI to other boards, including Tinkerboard. We aim to bring the cost of the SBC to 60 to 100 USD, mainly used for Industrial, within 0-70 Deg C. In fact, I have posted similar questions to find out answers, including Rock64, Olimex etc. Olimex seems to be supporting Industrial temperature, but their A64 seems to have less USB ports. Many SBCs vendor advertise their board for Education, Hobby purpose, I see Nano PC boards, they advertise for robotics, Industrial purpose http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/index.php/NanoPi_M4 with WIKI stating worki…

This is something hopefully suitable to become a 'Board Bring up' thread. The NanoPC T4 was the smallest RK3399 board around featuring full set of interfaces (Rock960 was smaller but there you can't use GbE without a proprietary expander) but in the meantime he got two smaller siblings: NanoPi M4 and the cute NEO4. Pros: Another RK3399 board so software support is already pretty mature Rich set of interfaces (2 x USB2 without shared bandwidth, 2 x USB3, triple display output and so on) No powering hassles due to 12V (2A) PSU requirement 16GB superfast eMMC 5.1 Usable and performant Wi-Fi (dual band and dual antenna so…

Hi folks! Some problems later I just build my ethereum-node using the FriendlyARM NanoPC T4 (Reddit project Ethereum on NanoPC T4). Using it indoor the temperature climbs to 80° celsius with the passive cpu-heatspreader. So I decided to install a fan and found the specs for the 'Cooling Fan interface'. The connector is named BM03B-GHS-TBT. Where can I buy a fan (40x40mm)? I only find fans with 3-pole-molex-adapter. All I know is the name of the male connector (in german): "JST Buchsengehäuse-Kabel GH Polzahl Gesamt 3 Rastermaß: 1.25 mm GHR-03V-S".

Greetings, Here's a quick and very dirty way to use the NVMe disk for the whole system, except the boot files and kernels which will be read from the SDCard. This method is UNSUPPORTED. Meaning that if you follow this procedure and your system broke, catched fire and start attacking you in your sleep, it's on you ! The reason I keep booting on the SDCard are : This makes boot issues easier to deal with since all the files are more easily accessible. It's easy to quickly read a SDCard from a PC using a SDCard reader USB dongle bought from the local store. Meanwhile mounting a NVMe<->USB readers are no…

According to this post (https://discuss.96boards.org/t/updated-preliminary-support-for-bluetooth-in-debian-rock960/5588/7) in 96boards forum, in recent kernel, there is a serial bus support for bcm blutooth. ---- firmware. I used firmware from the repo mentioned in the post: https://github.com/openwetek/wlan-firmware-aml/blob/master/bcm_ampak/config/4356/bcm4356a2.hcd according to hci_bcm.c code, this file should be renamed to BCM4…

Hello everyone, I have an issue in here. I'm very new to these things so have little knowledge and thus, forgive me if i ask something stupid but i have a problem. I have installed armbian debian verson to my NanoPC T4 and installed i3wm and did a lot of configuration and filled it with junk but i almost achieved what i'm trying to. Yet as i mentioned, i also filled with a lot of junk while trying to achieve my setup for my project. Anyway, from what i know is that what i'm asking is not the linux way but while trying, i found a problem on my case. I wanted to make a clean installation and fill the things i found out worked with the se…

Amrbian does not seem to turn on the NanoPC-T4 fan. I searched the information and turned on the fan on my NanoPC-T4. cd /sys/class/gpio sudo sh -c "echo 150 > export" cd gpio150 sudo sh -c "echo out > direction" sudo sh -c "echo 1 > value" # Fan Is ON. AND sudo sh -c "echo 0 > value" # Fan Is OFF.

It does not matter which of the lastest Images I am downloading for the NanoPC T4, none of them is showing any sign of boot sequence. I flashed the images with balena etcher to the SD-Card before. I thought writing the image with etcher to SD-Card is all I need to do. My old system Shaitan with OMV is booting from SD-Card witout any issue. I have no idea, why none of the newer Images escpecially for the NanoPC T4 is not booting at all. Does someone has any idea?

I don't have a NanoPC-T4, but I have a NanoPC-T6 which I mainly bought because of the Dual Camera options of the MCAM400 on the T4 and the high-speed encoding properties of the Rockchip... those possibilities should be very similar for the T6 actually... Whatever, the camera configuration seems to be mostly here but I struggle to do the similar thing with the device tree of the T6... Anyone who has an idea about this and is willing to help me with that?

Hello, nanopc t4 folks, Some, not so long time ago, I worked on fusb302.ko driver and device tree improvements in order to make USB Type-C port working properly in the mainline 5.* kernel. I managed to get DisplayPort over type-C + some general type-c handling improved before my board simply died. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish all the planned work and cannot continue further However, I guess, working DP is already fairly good achievement that might be interesting for many of us. Hereby, I want to publish some patches to the mainline!!! driver and device tree that add missing functionality, so one can get DP+type-C working on NanoPC T4 (and all RK339…
