Hi, First I want to say thanks for this amazing project. Also English is not my native language, so please excuse me for misspell Last week I received my shiny new Beelink GT1 with Amlogic S912 CPU. And now I have a itching in my hands to break it. So I forked @150balbes repo and start messing with it. Dowloaded original firmware from here: https://mega.nz/#F!bIVGFaKY!Om3XTxlHmjPB4x2_jukFYw Extracted original device tree and kernel config (attached below) and after little tuning I was able to build a Ubuntu 16.04 CLI image (only build, not tested) I use a LibreELEC linux-amlogic repo. Is there a way to add the MXQ box to the armbian supported OS's with nand support? This is a similiar device as the S805 ODROID device and the difference is only that this device has also a nand storage on it.

  10. [ This thread started more or less here : And what do you think about porting to a cheap Android TVBox ] If anyone's interested we can discuss Armbian or linux for those rk3288 devices here. I'll start with mine (Q8 without front panel) which is the XT-Q8L-V10 from enybox (Chiptrip Q8 on gearbest or that other EKB328 on Aliexpress with front panel). I have a feeling that those boards are discontinued and being put on sale as end of stock. There are various other boxes with rk3288 which prices are pretty high (>80e) and were probably seen at some point as high end boxes. Other threads for that board can be found here…

  20. Information for users of TV boxes on the Anlogic platform. At the beginning of the year, I already warned that support for AML will be reduced, now it's time, I completely stop supporting all TV boxes based on AML. Therefore, for those who definitely need ArmbianTV, I strongly recommend that you no longer buy models of TV boxes with Amlogic chips and switch to using supported hardware. AML support is Available exclusively for several models whose manufacturers cooperate with Armbian. In all new versions of images and the kernel, I will add various security mechanisms that will create serious problems, including hardware problems and hardware failure. Therefore, I s…

I'm coming from libreelec looking for a less limited operating system keeping mediacenter features of libreelec (mostly kodi) I installed Armbian_5.44_S9xxx_Debian_stretch_3.14.29_server_20180601.img.xz (it boots only versions with 3.14 kernel, others don't work), I found that it has not wifi drivers because it is not working, just eth0 is shown with "ip a". this is just a quick note that in my experience the amount of tv boxes with fake specs has grown quite a bit in the last months and that this is something to always have in mind when getting a box for a surprisingly cheap (i.e. quite a bit cheaper than usual or most of the other offerings) price - you might be lucky and it will be a bargain or you might hit one with fake specs. some examples i saw recently: a qplus 4g ram / 32g emmc ended up to be 2g ram and 16g nand, a h6 box sold as 4g ram / 32g emmc ended up as 2g ram / 16g emmc, a x96mini 2g ram / 16g emmc ended up at only 1g ram / 16g emmc, a r39 2g ram / 16g emmc with rockchip rk3229 ends up as 1g ram / 16g emmc and…

  31. I am starting a new thread as this discussion doesn't belong in the "Single Armbian image for RK + AML + AW" thread. The end user need is that users (I think this is especially true of TV box users) think of Armbian for TV boxes like a standard linux distribution. What this means is that they expect to receive security updates and critical bug fixes. They are after all trying to run home servers and desktops on this platform. And for the most part they get these fixes from the upstream distributions (ubuntu or debian). However they don't get fixes for the linux kernel. The question "how do I get kernel updates?" gets asked quite frequently in the TV box …

From some destinations you have to stick all electronic devices in the hold. I'd prefer to leave my laptop at home in such a case. Another motivation is that these TV boxes are easily hooked up to TVs (duh!) which most people have in their homes. I have been having a lot of discussions with people I meet. It would be handy to have documents, videos, quotes, not…

  50. We are currently at a breaking point where cheap Android TV boxes become powerful enough and viable enough to do the following while running Linux: 1. Be a server: self-hosting data, fediverse, home NAS 2. Be a TV box: 1. web browser, 2. other multimedia options, 3. games 3. Be a makeshift PC replacement (run office applications, photo editing, etc) Concerning #1: If you have followed the news then you have witnessed that censorship is increasing and that the nature of it is most alarming. Over the next years, big tech and politics-driven manipulation of online information will only get worse, until the internet essentially devolves int…

In the new year, I plan to focus on improving and developing Armbian-TV (Armbian-TV is a version that is based on the official Armbian, aimed at improved support for media capabilities and ease of use by ordinary users) support for the platforms Rockchip and Allwinner (perhaps a few more platforms will be added that are not yet in use). To do this, I have already ordered several popular models based on rk3399 (NanoPC T4, RockPi 4, Renegade-Elite), in a complete set with obligatory Support of nvme carriers (I consider this support essentially important, for transition of TV boxes and SBS to the category of mini-PC, as highly effective and improved replacement of the usua…

WIll not boot recovery either (pin in audio slot pressing the buttin). Red LED is on. fter 5s or so TV stops saying no signal and goes to an almost dark screen that becomes black. Also tried with SD card, with and without recovery button. Guess a hardware issue ? Hello, I am looking for a cheap SoC (less than 15$ per SoC) that has the most efficient HW based h.264 encoder. I want to transcode multiple 1080p (6-12 mbps bitrate source) TS streams. I will probably use couple of those SoC's. I was reading about Allwinner V3S (~3$ per CPU) based SoCs but can't find any cheap one for sale based on that chip. Also I don't really know what kind of performance this cheap have for HW h.264 encoding. Anyone have any experience with HW 1080p encoding on SoCs? Any suggestions?

  61. These days I am playing with an inexpensive ($25) Amlogic S912 TV box that I managed to get Oleg's excellent Armbian Ubuntu 18.04.2 image 5.75 with Linux 4.20.5 kernel running on. For the moment it has shown excellent stability and performance. I am attaching the results of running sbc-bench by Thomas Kaiser on this diminutive Linux box: it beats just about every other SBC except the RK3399 SBC's, and even matches or is faster than these in some cases. However the best part is that it is running a mainline up to date Linux kernel, not some heavily patched vendor kernel from a couple of years ago. Right now I am running the more extensive Phoronix Bench…

hi, I am considering getting a couple of inexpensive tv boxes to play with, my goals in order of interest would be: - Test Linux running some monitoring bash scripts. - Test Linux running some lan services as PiHole, nginx service fallback static pages for a couple of domains. - Test Linux acting as a thin client to RDP servers (think LTSP). - Test Android acting as a thin client to RDP servers (think LTSP). I don´t intend to run all of these at once, but rather test how well those work (or not). I am leaning towards TV Boxes instead of SBCs for the "all in one piece" factor, with SMBs getting the board+case+PSU+wifi-dongle rapidly see…

Hey guys, I'm looking for a pretty budget TV box under $50, I really don't need much from it but here are a few things that are very important for me: Speed - I've had experience with super slow smart TV devices in the past, generally a cheap smart TV is simply pure sh*t. So I don't really need anything that should be capable of gaming, I'll probably never use that, but I do want the TV box to operate fast. Outer storage ability - Probably the most important thing for me is a device that will be able to hold up external storages(flash drive, SD card, HDD(?)).
