Hi, I have X96+ with armian. I have issue with usb hdd (usb 3.0) on both usb ports (2.0/3.0).Disk have ext4 partition. During hisk work very often disk unmounting (i hear when thisk stoping). In effect the disk is mounted as read-only and of course it generates disk errors that are repairable with fsck. What could be the reason? A badly mounted drive or a sluggish, dying power supply? How I can diagnose this? Any ideas? I simply mounting disk in fstab LABEL=usb-hdd /media/usb-hdd ext4 defaults,rw 0 0

Hello everyone, I have two S905x3 boxes happily running Balbes150 20.08 Armbian build. I am trying to figure out how to make a working backup of the eMMC. Normally in a situation like this I would use Clonezilla, but that doesn't boot on these arm64 boxes. Should I make a bootable USB with one of Balbes150 images and use "dd" on /dev/mmcblk2 to an image file? Would I be able to then restore that image file with "dd" to another S905x3 box and have it boot?

@balbes150(sorry to @ you and hope youre keeping well!!) I have a Beelink GT King, which its motherboard lists as being version 2.2-S922X-4G-64G/A It has a terrible stability problem using meson-g12b-gtking.dtb (I have tried the pro file as well as others in case, but it wont boot with those). The problem I am experiencing is that when any high level of file transfers occur, the system freezes. The mouse etc locks up, the time/clock freezes at the time of the system hanging and the system drops off the network (stops responding to ping). Ive tried multiple revisions of Ubuntu that can be currently downloaded on Yandex, and been through …

hi, I am considering getting a couple of inexpensive tv boxes to play with, my goals in order of interest would be: - Test Linux running some monitoring bash scripts. - Test Linux running some lan services as PiHole, nginx service fallback static pages for a couple of domains. - Test Linux acting as a thin client to RDP servers (think LTSP). - Test Android acting as a thin client to RDP servers (think LTSP). I don´t intend to run all of these at once, but rather test how well those work (or not). I am leaning towards TV Boxes instead of SBCs for the "all in one piece" factor, with SMBs getting the board+case+PSU+wifi-dongle rapidly see…

Hey guys, I'm looking for a pretty budget TV box under $50, I really don't need much from it but here are a few things that are very important for me: Speed - I've had experience with super slow smart TV devices in the past, generally a cheap smart TV is simply pure sh*t. So I don't really need anything that should be capable of gaming, I'll probably never use that, but I do want the TV box to operate fast. Outer storage ability - Probably the most important thing for me is a device that will be able to hold up external storages(flash drive, SD card, HDD(?)). I believe I've seen some TV boxes that only support up to 64GB of SD card, I would really lo…

Hi, I search for a new development the best tvbox for run armbian, docker and microservices if possible around 100$ with 4GB Ram or more and 64 or 128GB eMMC. The display and wifi are not important, we run nodejs services only, so only cpu and eMMC performances are important for us. I have see a topic where balbes150 advises the ugoos AM6. I search a powerful tvbox for Linux usage. Thanks for your help

Hi everyone! Firstly sorry if this question is too basic or already had a solution in other topic, but I couldn't found the answer I'm looking for and I'm new to Armbian. But let's go... We have a standalone system here that plays videos all day long. That kind of "internal TV" from the company, where they put news and other things someone judge it's interesting. It works pretty well so far for roundly 10 years. Thing is: it relies on regular PCs! As you may know, they're big and has bigger energy consumption than this amazing TV Box. During a meeting someone came up with the idea of replacing it for something sm…

Hi there, As some of you (i guess) i want to update and upgrade to last debian and kernel version to test if it is better for my tv boxes (S905W, S912, S905X2) but before that i want to backup and possibly restore all the better way. Do someone have a hint for that ? Thanks I personnaly use portainer to manage docker images but never try it yet for disaster recovery or restoring data.

Hi. I am trying to connect a bluetooth speaker that also has a microphone to armbian. When using it as a plain speaker via A2DP, it works fine. However when i switch it to HSP/HFP in order to use the microphone, i get a lot of static, random crackling and very low volume on both the microphone and the speaker. Using a usb bluetooth adapter for this. I've used the same adapter + speaker on a different machine (x86 running lubuntu 19.10) and i did not have any static at all when using HSP/HFP (sound was indeed a bit lower quality that A2DP but nothing major). Also i could not get the speaker to switch to HSP/HFP with the default audio tool in armbian desktop, nor on …

Hello, I have a Beelink Mini MXIII. I successfully installed Armbian on an SDCard, and booted from it then I used the "Armbian configuration utility" to install onto eMMC. Now the box is bricked, there is no signal to hdmi. I tried to use the "USB Burning tool" method, and tried to burn the firmware on an SD card, but with no success when booting. What should I do from here ?

As I have been watching the development of Armbian for TV boxes, there is one area that my needs haven't been addressed yet. And since this is open source that means I needed to read a lot of posts and get into the code to understand how things are working. I have been doing that over the last six months or so and wanted to report back on what I am now doing to solve my issue as it may help others. I have a number of TV boxes running as headless servers for a variety of projects. Once I install Armbian on them I then get OS updates through ubuntu (I am using Ubuntu Bionic on my boxes). That gives me bug fixes and patches for the software running on these b…

HI I’ve looked through the whole internet looking on how to burn to eMMc without any external help (monitor or ssh). I want to put an sd card in for it to burn to the emmc automatically. I thought of adding a script in the local or in the /etc/init.d that goes like this: sudo dd if= of … and then when it boots from the sd card it will clone its contents to the emmc. Any help on how someone goes about doing this woud be great.

Hi guys. I had a s905x previously which died - the heatsink fell off. I ran armbian on it for a little while and it was great. But i replaced it with a s912 which i like the extra power of. I am now looking for an android box to get for armbian use only. I will probably put an intel heatsink/fan on it even if i feel it is necessary. Which devices under $70 would be considered most ideal for armbian only use? I hope not to have to go back to s905x after experiencing s912 but if it is the best stable one, i will get another cheap s905x. Onboard flash 8gb vs 16gb... Not a huge deal. Will use 200gb microsd either way. RAM at least 2gb my only real concern. Tha…

Yes, I am new to forum. Yes, I searched. But I still have questions. My story: At the beginning of the year (2021) I bought one orange pi zero 2 board at a good price. It was around 18 euro. I am very happy with the small board. So I was think to buy a second one. Turn out due to global chip shortage, the price of the board jump to 27 euro. The price is not attritive for me any more. Then I watched a youtube video. I think a lot of people watch the same video. Armbian install on H6 tv Box. so I bought the 'same' Tv box. Apparently, I did not read the spec carefully. The model I bought it is not with H6 CPU, but with H616 CPU. Yes, all the steps wh…

Hi. Currently, I subscribe to IPTV service, and have it loaded on Kodi (Raspberry Pi 3b). I don't have full EPG. Also, it's slow switching channels. Don't feel like a TV at all. I was wondering if any of these Arm SBC can function like and actual STB provided by cable providers? My IPTV service requires me to load the url to m3u8. I'd like to have something that looks like this Currently, I think I have something that looks like this It's also super slow to start a channel. Is this normal IPTV behavior?

I am thinking of buying the Alfawise H96 Pro+ TV Box ($67.99 USD). It has 3GB Ram / 32GB internal storage (some used for Android etc.) It has an Amlogic S912 Octa Core CPU. http://www.gearbest.com/tv-box-mini-pc/pp_503487.html I started looking for a mini PC after a recent trip. From some destinations you have to stick all electronic devices in the hold. I'd prefer to leave my laptop at home in such a case. Another motivation is that these TV boxes are easily hooked up to TVs (duh!) which most people have in their homes. I have been having a lot of discussions with people I meet. It would be handy to have documents, videos, quotes, not…

I figured I’d start a generic chat for this as I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to know other peoples experiences on this. I’ve bought and run armbian on a number of boxes (x96, Trongle, a95x) and always run into the same problem, WiFi. I know I am not the only one and I know the reasoning behind it (too many chips to support) But… Has anyone got a build working with WiFi support? Ideally on a board less than $50? Amlogic, Rockchip, anything? I’ve never failed to get other aspects working, except WiFi (and Bluetooth) I know it must be possible, Android builds never seem to fail with WiFi support. …

I have now burned an image to SD card, Armbian_20.02.0-rc1.037_Aml-s9xxx_bionic_current_5.5.0-rc6_desktop_20200205 That is supposed to be compatible, what is the next step to get this to boot on Tanix S912. Is there maybe a simple script to change the Tanix to boot alternatively from SD and Android installing required changes, or do i have to edit some file and install something on the Android device to get it going? A stepwise explanation would be nice, what file to edit where it resides, and what extra software to install. JT

I currently have a X96 Air S905X3 4GB/64GB box that has 1Gbit ethernet and a USB 3.0 port that works well with Armbian. This was bought 5 years ago for only 35 USD. I would like to find another box for Armbian that also has 1000M/1Gbit ethernet + USB 3.0. The same or similar boxes are selling for 50-60USD at the moment which is a lot for an old box. Are there any other boxes with 1Gbit ethernet at a low price that work with Armbian? Not bothered about other features, wifi quality, performance otherwise - just Gbit ethernet and USB 3. Open to all processors - Amlogic, Allwinner, Rockchip etc

Hey guys. I need around 10-20 SBC or TV Boxes that can run Armbian. I only need Ethernet support, Wi-Fi and BT isn't required, but I'd like something stable that doesn't overheat. I'll be running Docker on them, is that an issue on Armbian? This can be a deal breaker for me. 2GB/16GB boxes would be the best option if I can flash armbian to the EMMC in board, requiring no SD card to boot, thus minimizing costs. I've seen that the Tanix TX3 Mini is stable and the 2GB/16GB unit is at around 25€, but this is a bit much. I managed to buy some RK3318 2GB/16GB boxes in the past for 18€, but they're gone. I've also seen the HK1 Mini, which uses…

Hello, I find armbian awesome and my problem is because of the manufacurers. I basically want to play accelerated video (because I need 4k). I tried amlogic, but it is not still supported (https://linux-meson.com/hardware.html) the status is partial for the chips I tried. I don't what "partial" means but I can hardware decoding. I also tried allwinner, several chips. In this page https://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi-Cedrus I see that it is supported but I tried with new kernels, old kernels... Nothing worked. I always reach a point that stops me (like segmentation fault when loading sunxi modules, system freeze when using vdpau, compilation errors due inco…

this is just a quick note that in my experience the amount of tv boxes with fake specs has grown quite a bit in the last months and that this is something to always have in mind when getting a box for a surprisingly cheap (i.e. quite a bit cheaper than usual or most of the other offerings) price - you might be lucky and it will be a bargain or you might hit one with fake specs. some examples i saw recently: a qplus 4g ram / 32g emmc ended up to be 2g ram and 16g nand, a h6 box sold as 4g ram / 32g emmc ended up as 2g ram / 16g emmc, a x96mini 2g ram / 16g emmc ended up at only 1g ram / 16g emmc, a r39 2g ram / 16g emmc with rockchip rk3229 ends up as 1g ram / 16g emmc and…

I couldn't find anything on the web, I looked everywhere. With the dd command I can of course create a complete image of the eMMC anywhere, even on a network path, but I can't find anything that allows me to do what the "nand-sata-install.sh" script does, which formats the eMMC and populates it with all the contents of the MicroSD, appropriately adapting some files needed for booting. It would be many useful to be able to do the exact opposite as well, i.e. clone eMMC to MicroSD, which would be useful to have a bootable backup with all the customizations performed on the eMMC, without having to go through the process of creating an image file. I tried modifying the …

Just wanted to report that I have been experimenting compiling the kernel for Oleg's various Armbian images for S9XXX TV boxes and have managed to compile and boot mainline kernel, but this required a small change in Oleg's S905_autoscript in /boot. If there is no uImage it proceeds to booti Oleg's zImage: setenv boot_start_ml bootm ${kernel_addr} ${initrd_addr} ${dtb_mem_addr} if fatload mmc 0 ${kernel_addr} uImage; then if fatload mmc 0 ${initrd_addr} uInitrd; then if fatload mmc 0 ${env_addr} uEnv.ini; then env import -t ${env_addr} ${filesize};fi; if fatload mmc 0 ${dtb_m…

When building An armbian image, it takes a lot of time to create u-boot and I want to understand how it is necessary to include u-boot in the image immediately. If most people don't use it, I'll disable copying it to the image when I build it. For those who will need the image with the embedded u-boot, it is possible to easily add the right version of u-boot into the existing image.

Hello, I have recently found two android TV boxes and am interested in getting Armbian running on them versus the very deprecated Android versions they have. Doing a little research, I've found that they're MXQ EasyView TV models and run on ARM processors similar to my Le Potatoes that I've been playing around with for a few months. I've found their webpage, and it's pretty comical. Unfortunately, they don't list the exact ARM processor and/or specs and just looking up MXQ results in newer models only and Easyview barely anything except the mentioned site. https://easyviewtv.com/homepage.html Now, there does look like there was a p…

Hello everyone I'm posting here what I did to run Armbian on a 4G LTE EM90 box. The image I'm using is armbian_5.37_S9xx_Debian_stretch_3.14.29_icewm_20171226. Hi, So I have an MXQ S805 box. I installed Armbian_5.44 S805 Debian Server on SD card, got the right DTB to work and its working well. I have run the install.sh file to install to NAND and that has gone well too However, when I reboot, it goes into a weird loop that basically does not allow it to boot right. I encountered this loop previously when I was trying to identify the right DTB for my box, so I am confused that much more. What am I missing? Help. Thanks.

Hi I'm in the market for a cheap Linux Bo and from what I see it seems these Android TV boxes are the cheapest. I basically want a system I can just muck around with about, but also one that has working WiFi, can play 1080p video in H264 and H265 and can surf the web/play YouTube without much issue. I'm not interested in the boxes Android capabilities, I'm interested in if it can run a desktop Linux with things above. Essentially Wifi, Hardware decoding of H264/5 video and acceptable video playback on the Internet. Considering a raspberry pi with all the needed things costs more than one of these boxes it is a very nice alternative, but in a sea of…

Hi TV boxes hackers, We are thinking of re-purposing an existing Android TV box into a $30 personal cyber-security monitoring server for your home. Good or terrible idea? What caveats should we pay attention to? We will order directly from the manufacturer so we should be able to save some money (no need for a remote or an HDMI cable) and ensure they all use the same components. Giving the current chip shortage, it is though to reach a $30 price point without being creative... (we won't take any profit on the hardware) The project will be open source (no code yet). Current status: Armbian running on RK3318 -…

Hi, I plan on running octoprint on my Amlogic S912 china android box. Now I need to connect a filament runout sensor via gpio, in a octoprint plugin one specifies the used pins. Unfortunately my device has no dedicated gpio header built in, so I want to ask: Is there a way (that maybe works easily with armbian) to have gpio somehow? Like some usb stick with gpio on it that can forward gpio in and output? I have a pi zero lying around and found this https://github.com/raspberrypi/gpioexpander/wiki where some pigpio library is mentioned. But no idea if or how this could work on an Amlogic box. Any ideas?
