I load "Armbian_5.34_S9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_3.14.29_mate_20171104" on my MXQ PRO+ and after loading kernel and logging in it starts KODI Krypton. How can I disable KODI autostart and use complete Armbian system with MATE environment? There is no option on screen to choose.

Hi, I installed an Epson TM-T20 II without problem using the armbian image for z28 tvbox, rockchip rock64 alike board. When I plug it, it creates a /dev/usb/lp0 port that is enough to make the printer work. But I am unable to get the same working on the amlogic images. No port is created when I add the USB printer. Could it be missing UDEV rules? Or usblp driver not being loaded by the kernel? May someone give me a light? Those boxes are optimal for POS installations, and no support for ticket printing is a handicap. BTW, awesome work with all this project, it helped me a lot.

Hey Everbody, as the title suggests, im considering adding an external HDD enclosure to my S905x2 box running armbian to use it as a budget NAS. I was considering using Openmedia Vault + 4 Bays Raid 5 via USB 3.0. Is there anything in principle that would speak against this? Another question i have: would i need to use an external enclosure with a built in raid controller or can i use any external enclosure and setup the raid via software control (in armbian)?? Also i am not sure if i should go for a cheaper non-brand or maybe something like a QNAP TR-004 that i could (re)use with a real qnap NAS at some point in the future. Anybody here who has…

I have an X96 Air (version with chip wifi RTL8822CS). I installed Amrbian (via flash to SD Card) and run some months, next I install Armbian from SD Card to eMMC and run next some months. But in a day, it bricked, nothing in screen. And I have to flash stock rom (X96AIR_Q100_20210126-1140.img) via USB Burning Tool. Then my X96 is survive again, I can use it as a TVBox. But I try to plug SD Card with many images/versions of Armbian and with/without press reset, it can not boot from SD Card, it still boots to Android TVBox GUI. I try to flash Amrbian to USB stick, try each of three usb ports, it's still impossible boot to Armbian. So how I have to do now ?

I've been trying to activate the framebuffer on a Armbian Debian-server image. The framebuffer doesn't exist on a server image but I need to be able to install it. So I thought, what about DirectFB. I've been searching the web for instructions on installing DirectFB. I need to install it and not have to burn a new image (I'm not capable). I just noticed that if I go to /boot/debian i find all the libdirectfb files. Can somebody show me (step by step) how I could install DirectFB or directly activate the framebuffer using these files? What files (including directories) to install, scripts to modify, etc. Any help would be…

Hello, I'm trying to follow the instructions here: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/2419-armbian-for-amlogic-s905-and-s905x-ver-544/ Downloaded the image Armbian_5.99_Aml-g12_Ubuntu_bionic_default_5.3.0_desktop_20191110.img.xz and burned it to a 16GB sd card, put it in a tanix tx3 mini box and applied power. It booted Android as usual. The I opened Update& Backup app, which didn't even find the SD card. Then I rebooted to recovery, but that too didn't help. Not sure how to continue. Please help. TIA

Got a TV Box off amazon. Not real happy with the features as it comes. So I thought I'd give a try at booting to Armbian and see how that performs. I have no idea what the hardware is so I'm not sure where to begin at getting a good bootable SD card set up. The label on the box just says "TV BOX", nothing that I see to ID the thing. Where do I go to see the info I need to start building a usable boot? This is the device I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MJ13MWD

I've been planning to try out Armbian on my MXQ Pro 4K 5G (2/16GB) which has Allwinner H3 and originally runs a rooted version of Android 7.1.2. My TV box had an issue recently and I had to flash the firmware for Sunvell R69 to it (no original firmware files found just yet), everything works except Wi-Fi and improper RAM and ROM readings (1/8GB). I've read that there was an official support for Beelink X2 before. Since I do have an Allwinner H3, I decided to give Armbian a try. I've searched for the firmware online, but all my youtube/google searches results leads to https://www.armbian.com/beelinkx2/ which appears to not host the file anymore. Clicking either Armbian Bio…

I have begun to make some changes to the TV Box 'Club' area. The overall goal is to provide more useful information to users and reduce the support workload of answering the same questions over and over again. To that end there is now a FAQ forum on the menu. While it is currently empty and just a place holder it should provide a centralized location for TV Box information over time. The second new addition is the forum titled 'TV Boxes running Armbian'. The idea here is to provide a maintained list of current information with links to the details for boxes reported by the community to be successfully running armbian. Both…

Hello everyone I'm posting here what I did to run Armbian on a 4G LTE EM90 box. The image I'm using is armbian_5.37_S9xx_Debian_stretch_3.14.29_icewm_20171226. I extracted the dtb.img from the rooted android, I had to remove the beginning of the file to make it work. If you don't cut the file until you reach 0xD0 0D FE ED, you will get a magic number error when decompiling and Armbian will not boot with your fresh DTB. WIFI : The wifi is not well initialized at startup. You must precise to modprobe the firmware to load to AP6330 WIFI + BT4.0 chip Create the file /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf and add the following line : options dhd fir…

I have a problem. I try to boot "Armbian_5.67_Aml-s9xxx_Debian_stretch_default_4.19.7_20181228.img.xz" on a S905L 3B TV box, the ditb file use the default one (it works for S905L). I use a TTL to USB device to check signal, and it started to login stage. However, the LAN port and HDMI port seem not work, as I can' t use SSH to connect to Armbian and I can't see any thing on the screen. So I guess maybe the dtb file is not suitable, and there may not be a suitable dtb for S905L3B. Could I modfiy a dtb file based on the S905L dtb file and the dtb file from the Andriod system in the S905L 3B TV box?

I'm able to successfully boot-up into Armbian_5.37_S9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_3.14.29 but got stuck instead at the root login due to the following issues... 1. Tried using usb keyboard - No response. 2. Tried SSH via WiFi or usb Ethernet - Failed to connect. I'm using 150balbes method of installing the image to SDCard. I also had input the required details on first run armbian.txt file. From documentation, I've understand that USB support in u-boot currently not enabled on all H3 boards. How to enable the usb support? TVBox : S-BOX Amlogic S905X TV Box

I tried to write different images from the h6 family, for example: Arabian_23.11.0_allwinner_tanix-tx6_bullseye_5.136_server_2023.10.20.img to my SD and USB drive, however, this does not work. If you install the SD card and turn it on, then the red LED lights up on the device and that's it. The device simply ignores the USB flash drive and loads android. What could be the problem?

Hello everyone, For the past days i've been trying to install Armbian on my S905 box. I've been able to backup the system with TWRP through a microSD card. I've installed Armbian_20.02.0-rc1.037_Aml-s9xxx_buster_current_5.5.0-rc6_desktop_20200205 on the SD card and have been trying ever since to find the right DTB file to boot with. Searching the forums (and coreelec/libreelec forums) it seems that some of these boxes come with a S905 or S905x SOC, but none of the DTB files i've tried result in anything else than a black screen on boot. Am i doing something really wrong here? Is it perhaps possible to extract a DTB file for th…

Hello there everyone need a little bit of support if anyone can help me? So a couple of weeks back i picked up a retro gaming box filled with emulators, roms etc. After a little digging to add emulators, mess with themes, change settings and stuff i find out the box it's self is just a mix of libreelec, emulationstation, kodi with a few modifications, skins added. So i decided to see if the box can run Linux (if it could i could easily get retropie for Linux running on it) which it can and after a little googling and watching a video by the MXQ Project to get Armbian (Lepotato) running on the box (using the tooth pick method) i followed the steps to get it run…

Hi I'm in the market for a cheap Linux Bo and from what I see it seems these Android TV boxes are the cheapest. I basically want a system I can just muck around with about, but also one that has working WiFi, can play 1080p video in H264 and H265 and can surf the web/play YouTube without much issue. I'm not interested in the boxes Android capabilities, I'm interested in if it can run a desktop Linux with things above. Essentially Wifi, Hardware decoding of H264/5 video and acceptable video playback on the Internet. Considering a raspberry pi with all the needed things costs more than one of these boxes it is a very nice alternative, but in a sea of…

How can I find the default version that the above release would have shipped with? Thanks

Hello, Just some word to know MX10 RK3328 can have an uboot legacy 4.4 working in emmc with the defaut rk3328-evb board config. I follow the guide [RK3328_Linux-Debian_V1.1_Development_Guide-20170711.pdf]. I suggest before trying anything to be sure you have an working usb loader for your BOX (usb loader from rkbin github don't work for example). You can find it in android update firmware image, unpack it with https://github.com/TeeFirefly/rk2918_tools.git And try on box in recovery mode : To remenber information about your emmc (in case it show 0MB capacity) Be carefull with the default parameter_gpt file, it's setup 512bytes page size and if you erase you…

Hello, I have an old Android TV Box (affectionately named RBOX) -- having trouble finding any specs or hardware information for it, and I'm trying to see if I can throw on a Linux distro to turn it into a micro-server (either via USB or SD Card). Has anyone ever seen one of these, know what kind of hardware is in it? (CPU, firmware, etc.?) Any reccomendations on which distro to use? I tried Bullseye Armbian to no avail.

On this forum I read that for my device TXZ_A 20_V0.9 (Allwinner A20) are suitable firmware that are designed for CubieBoard2, I downloaded http://dl.cubieboard.org/software/a20-cubieboard/debian/nand/debian-nand.img.gz, recorded the image to the SD card using PhoenixCard. @Steeman: thanks so much for a clear and concise instruction! You are my hero!!! By the way, I just want to check with you. There is no reason to run Armbian on emmc card, rite? Because the sdcard nowadays are much faster & larger than those that are available in the old TV Boxes? Thus there is no advantage to install to the emmc? Thanks!

Hello Guys , I have ordered Micro SD Card Breakout for Exporting UART and JTAG Pins to get serial output on the SD card port without making any welding on the box. Does any one have used the UART over SD port ?

Googling this question leads to a lot of chromebooks with 8-12 hours of battery life at a cheap price range, and a few Windows/Qualcom Snapdragon laptops with 24 hours of battery life but much more expensive. I would love to see a linux or chromebook laptop with 24 hours of battery life at a reasonable price point but am perhaps not doing a good search. Would any of you know of a really long lasting ARM-based laptop at a reasonable price point?

Hello everybody, Some time ago I bought "Mxq Max" rk3328 tv boxes currently on android. I want to install linux there. Hello, I have recently found two android TV boxes and am interested in getting Armbian running on them versus the very deprecated Android versions they have. Doing a little research, I've found that they're MXQ EasyView TV models and run on ARM processors similar to my Le Potatoes that I've been playing around with for a few months. I've found their webpage, and it's pretty comical. Unfortunately, they don't list the exact ARM processor and/or specs and just looking up MXQ results in newer models only and Easyview barely anything except the mentioned site. https://easyviewtv.com/homepage.html Now, there does look like there was a p…

Hi. I'm trying to use Armbian 20.10 from Balbes and I'm thankfull to you for supporting it. But I have a problem. I have: 1. Hello everyone, I am not having any luck with the wifi on the H96 Max X3. I see posts saying the wifi on this box work with meson-sm1-sei610-ethfix.dtb / meson-sm1-H96max-X3.dtb or h96max-x2-test-bus80-gpu-volt.dtb but they are not working for me. I did put the BCM4335C0.hcd in /lib/firmware/brcm and the driver apparently loaded. Everything else seems to be working ok. A few posts mentioned it works with kernel 5.6rc1 and 5.7 but I couldn't find those images. Hi. Thanks so much for the effort that's been put in to this. It's really quite amazing what I can do with my little TV box! I've had some issues getting armbian to work fully though, and I believe it's entirely down to the dtb.img not being quite right. I'm using: gxm_q201_2g.dtb On the xenial mate version found: https://yadi.sk/d/srrtn6kpnsKz2/Linux/ARMBIAN/5.44/kernel_3.14 Which, while booting up fine, gives me no WiFi. Hello. I have successfully booted Armbian_20.02.0-rc1.035_Aw-h6-tv_buster_current_5.5.0-rc6_desktop_20200204 on to R TV Box X10 Plus and have docker and Home assistant running at about 25% load. I would like to move it from SD card to emmc but when I issue the nand-sata-install command in a terminal window, it reports command not found and lists special scripts for many setups, but not the H6. I also cannot access the usb3 port, which I think is a device tree issue, I believe the proper dtb needs to be loaded but I don't know where to find it or how to install it.

Hello Guys, I bought this box 2 years ago and practicaly never used. After home cleaning found it and fought "if it run Android, it can run any Linux". I alredy have RBpi B3+ and with this TV Box now I could have a small open source data center and practice with ngnx, MariaDB, Postgree, MySQL, NodeJS, PHP, Python etc. After research I found this web, and liked Armbian idea. Issues: 1. This box looks identical to MXQ-4K, however the image did not work. When I opened it, the procesor was Allwinner H3, PCB is AK-H3-MXQ4K-V1.1 (https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/GUANZHI_Android_TV_BOX_H3) 2. I have many SD/microSD (brand and non brand…

Hello all, I have sadly had to reinstall my nicely build Armbian system after a bad update I can't run ddbr to make a backup of my eMMC. Whether as root on my OS on eMMC, or booted from USB drive, command "ddbr" does not exist. What can I do? This seems to be missing on both Armbian_20.08_Arm-64_focal_current_5.7.15_desktop.img and Armbian_20.09_Arm-64_buster_current_5.8.5.img I might be doing something wrong but i tried both "ddbr" and "sudo ddbr", says command does not exist. Regards,

Hi guys. I had a s905x previously which died - the heatsink fell off. I ran armbian on it for a little while and it was great. But i replaced it with a s912 which i like the extra power of. I am now looking for an android box to get for armbian use only. I will probably put an intel heatsink/fan on it even if i feel it is necessary. Which devices under $70 would be considered most ideal for armbian only use? I hope not to have to go back to s905x after experiencing s912 but if it is the best stable one, i will get another cheap s905x. Onboard flash 8gb vs 16gb... Not a huge deal. Will use 200gb microsd either way. RAM at least 2gb my only real concern. Tha…

I currently have a X96 Air S905X3 4GB/64GB box that has 1Gbit ethernet and a USB 3.0 port that works well with Armbian. This was bought 5 years ago for only 35 USD. I would like to find another box for Armbian that also has 1000M/1Gbit ethernet + USB 3.0. The same or similar boxes are selling for 50-60USD at the moment which is a lot for an old box. Are there any other boxes with 1Gbit ethernet at a low price that work with Armbian? Not bothered about other features, wifi quality, performance otherwise - just Gbit ethernet and USB 3. Open to all processors - Amlogic, Allwinner, Rockchip etc

From an article at: https://torrentfreak.com/brazil-regulator-claims-80-of-pirate-tv-boxes-were-blocked-last-week-231030/ "Brazil's telecoms regulator Anatel claims that during an operation last week, it successfully blocked around 80% of pirate 'TV boxes' in the country. Estimates from early 2023 suggest that seven million were active in Brazil." Maybe they could be re-purposed to run Armbian /s What's your take on this?

After reading through the forum I found the file I want to download - ARMBIAN 5.67 user-built Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS 4.4.143-rk3328-tv 20181203 +compton. How do I find this file when I don't know which of the almost 100 boards it's under without looking at the hardware specs of each. Is there a way to cross-reference that I'm not seeing?

I took apart a tx3 pro android box I had collecting dust and realized I could put debian on it. I went through the process on Armbians website and got it to sucessfully boot into the user login screen of Armbian Heres the weird part when I login it begins to load and then for some reason opens Kodi 17.3 and I have no way of exiting kodi without it rebooting the box. I believe I only had Kodi 16.0 on the box so I think 17.3 is coming pre-installed in this file they give you for the Armbian Debian install. If anyone has any idea why it would do this I'd appreciate it.appvalley tutuapp tweakbox

Hello, Since I'm less than a noob in linux, can anyone please help me with the commands that I need to execute the following instructions? Thanks in advance. Instructions: 1. Install the dtb file meson-gxl-s905w-tx3-mini-vfd.dtb.gz and boot your tx3 box with this file. (This assumes that you boot from SD/USB so that you don't risk bricking your box.) 2. Download the vfd code (module and daemon) tarball vfdd-20181209.tar.xz from a link at the bottom of the page http://www.rvq.fr/linux/tanix-vfd.php and unpack it someplace on your tx3 box. 3. Hi, This SOC is very interesting as it has a native SATA interface and Gigabit Ethernet. The boxes equipped with it (Zidoo X9S, X10, Xnano X5, Beelink SEA 1,...) can be used as a NAS because they have OpenWRT inside/with Android but it is rather limited. I'd like to use my SEA 1 with OMV under Armbian but is it possible to have dual boot on these boxes like S905x ones ?

Hey everyone, don't tear me up too much, but its been maybe 25 years since I have dabbled with any *nix type environment. Recently tinkering around, I installed Armbian on my TX3 Mini Android box. No complaints, feels like I am getting back into the swing of things again. But for some reason, I cannot figure out how to turn off the screen saver / maybe power managent IE: Black screen. It goes black after 10 minutes or so and I just wanted to keep it on. Spent a few days trying things on and off from suggestions I found online, but nothing seems to work. FYI I dont have xscreensaver installed either. Thanks!

Hello, everyone need a little bit of support if anyone can help me? So a couple of weeks back i picked up a retro gaming box filled with emulators, roms etc. After a little digging to add emulators, mess with themes, change settings and stuff i find out the box it's self is just a mix of libreelec, emulationstation, kodi with a few modifications, skins added. So i decided to see if the box can run Linux (if it could i could easily get retropie for Linux running on it) which it can and after a little googling and watching a video by the MXQ Project to get Armbian (Lepotato) running on the box (using the tooth pick method) i followed the steps to ge…

I got a box a month ago off Amazon. Externally its labeled "MX Pro+ 4K" But it is running with 7.1.2 and the firmware I have flashed was a MXQ. There is no display coming on when its trying to load from the uboot. I did mess up the firmware and was able to flash it using usb burning tool Any Ideas on how to make this work????? I messed up the original firmware and bricked it and had to short pins and reflash it with the firmware I could find but I would really like to know more about this box and how to get Linu…

I'd like to provide this information in the event that it might be useful some day, if/when support for Rockchip boards are added to Armbian. Before you flash-program anything, make a backup of your current NAND if this is at all possible for you. As a precaution, I thought I had make a backup using rkflashtool, but it turned out that my backup was only the first 192K repeated over and over; I've reported this as a bug. I may be the only one experiencing this problem, but I'd like to tell you, so you can check using hexdump -C before you start overwriting your NAND. It might be difficult for you to find information on the CS918 TV-box. It appears that there are s…

Wanting to build a new Armbian server from a TV Box. Video is not a requirement here as the device will be headless. Just a quickie picture relating to the size of this box. I am impressed. It will be mounted inside of a security panel (Leviton Omni Pro 2) and serve as a console to said security panel using automation software. Ideally though want: - Gb NIC - 32 Gb eMMC - 4 Gb RAM Bluetooth and WLAN is nice to have but not necessary for my use. Been only tinkering here with Octocore ARM CPU TV boxes but not necessary. I am currently wanting to add a firewall (2nd NIC) and am familiar…

Hello, I am trying to control volume Up/Down and mute through alsamixer with no success. When launching alsamixer the only changable device is DAC Digital, but actually it does not change anything, the volume remains at "56" and won't change. It is almost not possible to control volume through alsamixer or amixer command line. The only control I have found is the mute/unmute through /sys/class/amaudio but not the volume level ! It is the case for all armbian (debian, ubuntu) servers packages. I think some thing goes wrong... Any help or hint would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm running armbian on a X96 and was able to install it to the eMMC. So far no problems. The machine has 8 GB of eMMC, and that's why I want to use every free space if possible. But the partition table looks quite strange. Here is the output of cfdisk: The extended partition p4 ends at block 11567103, but p15, which is part of p4, ends at15269887. I was not able to fix this with parted's resizepart command. The resulting new partition table was not written to the eMMC. Any ideas how to fix this? p15 contains armbian, which runs fine in this configuration. Nevertheless I would like to delete unused partitions and enlarge p15. p14 could be a cand…
