I have an orange pi with installed Ubuntu Bionic mainline Linux orangepione 4.14.65-sunxi, I have to create an economic access point with the Ralink MT7601U device (148f: 7601) already in possession, from the original driver configuration mediatek this device does not work as accesspoint but turning the network I found drivers modified in github that allow me to enable it as an AP. The driver of the newly installed distro is recognized as wlx00e1b0117ad1 but when I do iw list Supported interface modes: managed monitor there is no AP in the list. If I do iw wlx00e1b0117ad1 scan find me other wifi networks. One of the many guides I follo…

How can I access individual packages that make up the images that are available for download e.g. at https://www.armbian.com/lenovo-x13s/ ? I see only "full image" downloads and no link to information on what was used to build these images. I poked around the dists named "bookworm something" on apt.armbian.com looking for the kernel used, but didn't find any obvious match (no 6.3 kernel version, no kernel that has "x13s" in the package name, ...). Likewise, there is no x13s listed in https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/master/config/sources/families

Sorry for my stupid question. If I connect by TTL to USB adapter, after setting up login/password, terminal is freezing. Board is Nanopi NOE2. I think this is due to the fact that my adapter is warm or not of poor quality. While I order a new one, is there a way to enable ssh access over the lan network?

Hello I am trying to configure two mcp2515 CAN controllers and bind them to the mcp251x kernel driver. Hello, I'm new to Armbian. I've recently tried Olimex's image for a13 (https://github.com/OLIMEX/build). I saw (and read) on armbian's guide that there's the possibility to customize images build. I need to add two specific drivers (smsc95xx for my eth interface and uvcvideo for my webcam) to kernel. I can find their sources in build\cache\sources\linux-mainline\linux-5.0.y\drivers, but they are not listed in various "modules.order" files (ok, so that's why my devices doesn't get loaded). If I want to add these modules to kernel the only way is to create a patch for "modules.order" in userpatches\kernel (if it's the right directory), or there's a …

Mini tutorial I am putting here some notes for posterity In the current version of armbian (testing H6) I use X11 / Xorg only reaches 1024x768, but my display reaches 1440x900. To add this new resolution to the list of Settings/Display you have to give these commands: # xrandr --listmonitors (this command serves to see what it's called, the hdmi output) # cvt 1440 900 (output: # 1440x900 59.89 Hz (CVT 1.30MA) hsync: 55.93 kHz; pclk: 106.50 MHz Modeline "1440x900_60.00" 106.50 1440 1528 1672 1904 900 903 909 934 -hsync +vsync ) # xrandr --newmode "1440x900_60.00" 106.50 1440 1528 1672 1904 900 903 909 934 -h…

Hey guys, What is in your opinion the best solution to add WIFI/BT capability to a A20 board? Currently I tried to add ESP8266 connected with SDIO. (without much success so far). Then in order to add BT too I am thinking about ESP32 (with ESP-WROOM-32 module). Do you know if there are references of using this ESP32 solution to provide wifi and bt to a allwinner board/armbian ? Also this module have a lot of different interfaces available, which should be prefered? Or alternatively, do you know other armbian supported solution for wifi/bt? Best would be a solution that does not use USB ports as I need them. …

Hello. I have a couple of Chinese 3.5" TFTs, model MPI3508. I'm trying to get it to work with my Orange Pi 3. The module supports either connecting via GPIO or HDMI, either is fine for me. I'm using Linux orangepi3 5.4.20-sunxi64 #20.02.1 SMP Mon Feb 17 02:37:37 CET 2020 aarch64 GNU/Linux I'm trying to get it to display the console - no GUI installed, just the console is enough. The module also supports touch, but I don't care about that - I just want to use it as a monitor.. If I use HDMI, I can get a picture, but the resolution is all wrong. It's a 480x320 display but because Chinese manufacturers, it reports itself as having a m…

Hello, I'm currently working on integrating a custom-made driver into my Armbian build, but I'm facing some challenges. I've researched the process and found that it should be done through the kernel configuration. However, despite my efforts, I can't seem to find any option that allows me to add a custom driver. I've attempted placing the .ko file in a /driver folder, that I created within the source, as well as in the kernel/ folder under userpatches/, but unfortunately, it hasn't worked. I'm seeking guidance on whether it's possible to add a custom driver to an Armbian build and, if so, I'd greatly appreciate any insights or step-by-step instructi…

Hi all, I have been playing with a NanoPi Neo and the 2.8" screen with toutchscreen also from friendly Arm on Linux nanopineo 4.11.0-sun8i. Making it work was not very easy since it was the first time I messed with device trees, also add to rewire the screen to use a different pin for the touchscreen chip select since the connector is a column bigger that the neo's. I can provide more information or the dts file if it is of interest to someone. TL:DR: The problem is that the toutchscreen accuracy is not so great especially on the top part of the screen. I see that the ads7846 driver which I'm using has a "model" option which by being set…

Would like to build something like a NAS, because I'm tired of connecting an external drive via USB. I am thinking to use bananapi M2 berry for this. I would power the 3.5 HDD externally and don't care too much about SATA speed. However, it is important to me that armbian works without manual adjustments, because it wouldn't cope with them. Should I go ahead with the experiment?

Hello! I am new to Armbian, so I need a little help and advice here. Until now, I've been using a Banana Pi M1 with Bananian on it, and running NextCloud as my personal cloud server. Unfortunately, Bananian is dead, so there won't be any updated PHP version ( < 5.6), which are needed for recent NextCloud Version: NC 14 requires PHP 7, but Bananian (Debian 8.11) is stuck at PHP 5.6. Soo sad... That's why I need to switch to Armbian, and as far as I know, this project has no sword named "EOL" hovering above its head — at least not yet. ;) My questions are these: - Which version of Armbian would you recommend running NextClo…

Hello. I'm running "Armbian 20.11.6 Focal" on an Odroid-C2 board. Today, after an "apt-get update" and "apt-get upgrade", the OS name changed from "Armbian 20.11.6 Focal" to "Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS". The changes has been done from the package "11ubuntu5.3" (https://launchpadlibrarian.net/519827877/base-files_11ubuntu5.2_11ubuntu5.3.diff.gz) on the files "/etc/issue" and "/etc/issue.net". Well, is that a problem under an "Armbian" point of view? Should I replace "Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS" with "Armbian 20.11.6 Focal" on the files "/etc/issue" and "/etc/issue.net"? Thanks.

I did my first install yesterday on a ODROID C4 with the Focal/Xfce Desktop image running the 5.10.27 kernel (Armbian_21.02.4_Odroidc4_focal_current_5.10.27_xfce_desktop.img). I installed it on an eMMC card which I had tested using f3read and f3write earlier (those tests worked). I reset the root password and added a user with sudo privileges. I also did an apt-get update/upgrade and installed openvpn (the openVPN service that I use seemed to be working as with my laptops). I didn't tinker much more and shut Armbian down. I was very pleased with Armbian (and much preferred it to the stock Ubuntu Mate). I was (and still am) looking to u…

Fresh install no X server, no GUI. Unfortunately the cursor is not shown in the terminal. You can type and delete text, but the character under the cursor position is not at all highlighted. I can make it shown with adding something like "echo -e '\e[?16;0;200c' " (colors it orange) to my bash prompt, but in then I start vim and the cursor is still hidden! I can set colorcolumn and colorrow to work around this in vim, but it seems that the problem lies deeper. So I looked around and found the setterm command. It works for setting my background and foreground colors, however when I do "setterm --cursor on" or "setterm --blink on" nothing happens, cursor is sti…

I have two HC1s both running Armbian 10. Both of them respond to uname -r with: 4.14.187-odroidxu4 Yesterday, I rebooted one of them, and immediately started seeing errors. These turned out to be attributable to missing modules. The only directory in /lib/modules was 4.14.198-odroidxu4 which does not match the kernel version. The other HC1 still had a directory /lib/modules/4.14.187-odroidxu4. Prior to the reboot both systems were working. How can this happen? My quick solution was to copy the 4.14.187-odroidxu4 directory from the working HC1 to the failed HC1, which solved the problems, at least for the time being. But what is the correct so…

I'm having an aggressive memory leak issue I can't place: Within 5 minutes the 4GB are full. htop and top don't show a massive program growing unbouded. `df` doesn't show a tmpfs that is too large. I have a Odroid XU4 board that I am trying to build an image for and it will not boot from any images I have built from the compile.sh pulled from github. The board u-boot led doesn't turn on (solid blue) and nothing is displayed from the hdmi port. I select SD card image and have tried writing it with Win32 imager, Etcher, and the dd command. I did get an Ubuntu image downloaded from Odroid to work so the board is not faulty. Nothing has worked and I'm at a loss as to why when I personally compile an image it does not work. Thanks for the help

Hey, i bought somewhere on the end of internet some board with AllWinner A10 - ARM Cortex A8 processor. Board was cheap (15$) and had info about compatibility with Armbian. Sound good deal for tests. BUT of course cant be so easy It was true, Armbian working but only version 5.24 Jessie for Lime-A10 from previous age. All newest version booting well but without working usb ports. Hi! I just wanted to ask if somebody knows if the accuracy of the internal temperature sensor (A20 Chip) is defined somewhere? Hello everyone. I have a custom board with A20 SoC running Buster kernel version 5. Configured device tree, everything works. My problem is that the board uses I2C4 bus to drive CSI1 camera and that I2C4 bus seems to be reserved for HDMI. i2cdetect -l gives i2c-0, i2c-1, i2c-2, i2c-3 and sunxi-hdmi-i2c adapter. Of course, trying to access sunxi-hdmi-i2c adapter from code (c++) or a tool (v4l2-ctl) results in an error as resource is busy. As I don't use HDMI at all and I2C2 bus is free, my question is how can I set dummy I2C2 bus to be assigned to HDMI or somehow release I2C4 bus so it's accessible by camera driver. Removing or disabling HDMI from…

Hello. Sorry, I am Russian and have no money for a strong computer. I have only a tablet PC, but I really want to learn Linux (and at the same time try it). So I am trying to install Armbian build on my tablet (Texet TM-9751HD). The problem is that the tablet has only one micro-usb port, which works as charging and OTG. The keyboard works fine under Android, but doesn't respond at the prompt. Also, I tried the old Kernel(3.4) and the original Scrip…

Why is the support of the Banana M2 model on the A31c processor stopped? I am ready to become a tester. When searching the forum on this topic I find a number of hits saying the mainline kernel does not have support for the SOC codec, but these topics are kind of old and I find it hard to find the current status. In the past I have been able to use the onboard audio codec. However, I have been forced to upgrade and I now find that with the kernel I get from Armbian, I do not see the audio (ALSA) device nodes for the codec, only for HDMI. When looking at the kernel configuration, it should be in (SUN8I_CODEC and SUN8I_CODEC_ANALOG are both 'y'), but alas. Does anyone know if and how I can enable the audio codec so I can have analog audio output? I bui…

Good evening All. I was wondering what is the best method to use an Armbian sd card born for an H3 based board on another board with the same SoC, e.g. Orange Pi 2 image on Orange Pi Lite. With old 3.x kernel it was super easy, just replace the fex file and that's it. Overlays confuse me a fair bit, and the best method I found until now is to specify in armbianEnv.txt the row fdtfile=sun8i-h3-orangepi-lite.dtb to use a sdcard loaded with an Orange Pi 2 image in my Orange Pi Lite. But I cannot find where the board is defined, could anyone point me in the right direction? Best Regards. Christian

Hi all, I am trying to bring up a new board that uses both Allwinner H616 emacs, the 1Gbps (emac0) and the 10/100Mbps w/internal phy (emac1). I don't see any H2 overlays for Allwinner. There are H2 DTBs, but no overlays. I looked at the specs and the H2+ seems identical to H3 in terms of cpu, do I just use H3 overlays for H2+ boards?

R40 is a new SoC from Allwinner known as 'quad-core A20 successor' (link to datasheet). It shares most hardware details with A20 (true SATA, GbE -- EMAC and GMAC listed separately -- 2 USB2.0 host ports, one USB OTG, and fortunately also PMIC/battery support (link to AXP221s datasheet). Unfortunately Allwinner chose a manufacturing partner known for never providing exact specs/info to produce the first R40 device available. So we won't get any info about performance and working hardware features unless we buy this device on our own and test. I just had a quick look into one already released OS image 'funnily' based on one of our Armbian OS images for a H3 board: …

nanoPi M4 running Armbian 21.02.1 Buster with Linux 5.10.12-rockchip64. Attached are two identical B25 USB Bluetooth Transmitter Sticks which are supposed to transmit the same MP3 stream (provided by Mopidy or Shairplay Sync). The following screenshot shows just a single B25 stick attached, the second one has yet to arrive. I expect them to all have the same USB ID ID 0a12:1004: Here’s the problem: After each reboot the system (or ALSA?) gives the B25 stick a different card number in aplayer -l (in the screenshot above B25 is card #2, on the next reboot it could switch position and be #1). Question therefore: How can I make two id…

Hi! I'm having trouble with one (only one) of the alsamixer settings. 'MIC1 boost AMP gain control' shoots up to 71 every time I launch a program that uses sound, such as alsaloop or arecord. I've done 'sudo alsactl store', so I can get it back to zero by doing 'sudo alsactl restore'. Obviously that's not something I want to do all the time. I don't have any problems with any other settings. The setting in question completely ruins sound quality for my purposes, so I need it to stay at zero. I'm currently running 5.35 user-built Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i. I've tried Debian Jessie as well.

Hi, I am trying to select an OS for C++ development on ARM processors for IoT development and I am thinking about long future. I've been using Debian and Ubuntu on my desktop, so I have to say I am biased on using Debian. (1) armhf debian looks stable, it can support any ARM board as long as it has Linux kernel, but it requires large size in both RAM and Flash like a desktop environment. (2) openwrt is smaller for embedded system, but it does not have pre-build open source library packages like armhf debian does, you have to build open source packages which may or may not be a big deal, in particular, building boost could be a nightmar…

If you have ever compiled buildroot from Amlogic, please help me. I am trying to learn develop app on amlogic based device. First I was getting compile error on 64bit Ubuntu 16.04. Something like this. Even though there was a file, 'bash' couldn't find or run. /bin/bash: /root/buildroot/x86/xxxx-gcc: No such file or directory Thinking it's something to do with 64 bit OS, I switched to 32 bit Ubuntu 16.04. Hello, I've installed armbian s912 stretch debian desktop 5.75 on my video game console board, Pandora's box X 3d or 7, they're the same. That's run perfectly but i have just one usb port functional and I want tu use an usb hub(4ports) for adding and use my mouse and a Wi-Fi adapter but it doesn't work because only one device work, if I plug 2 devices, that doesn't work much. and lsusb command doesn't show the 4 hub's ports. Soo, few weeks ago, I left the Orange Pi Zero unpowered. Then, now, after I power it on, I quickly ran the 'update' and 'upgrade' commands to upgrade my system... Well, then I ran 'armbianmonitor -m' to check my CPU's temperature and to see if I had installed the cooling fan correctly. Suddenly, I noticed its clock speed is no longer 1200Mhz maximum. I was freaked out then, so I quickly checked the CPU's lowest and highest clock speed using 'cpufreq', and it said that the maximum speed is 1008Mhz (About 1,008ghz), and the minimum speed is 120Mhz (About 0,12ghz). I don't understand why :v I only left it unpowered for a few weeks and now its clock speed just got decreased f…

Hi. Armbian 21.02.1 / 5.15.74-sunxi (22.08.6 SMP) / Debian 11.5 is working flawlessly on my cubietruck for several days, and then just hangs. I've studied the armbian-hardware-monitor.log, systemlog, run a 2-minute periodic cron to watch the temperature, and even added a serial comsole in an attempt to find out what might be the cause. I have not seen any weird indications in these logs. Temperature stays between 37 and 45 degrees. When the system hangs, there are no error messages on the consoles or via the serial comm. Pings are unresponded then, and magic sysrq won't work then. Armbian is run on a sata harddisk, there are some harddisks attached via an USB hub too but …

Hi there, Since being only a novice in linux, there are some things that are difficult to understand. Like - which configs to update or keep old versions when doing the upgrade. Last time I said N (keep original version) to everything. Really the only things I care about are vnc configs and samba setup. I basically use it as a network drive for backups. Only necessary software is x11vnc and samba. Else I log into it just for updates/restarts. I have tried upgrading my armbian several times. Unfortunately it does not work and I have to restore my sd card backup and start over. I update it making sure all apt updates are done, and then fr…

So I tested Kodi playing different demanding video files (H256), and it works smoothly, without crashing at all. So far the most stable media center option. But yes, we have no ethernet. So I was wondering how could we load the basics drivers from the Xulong image, into the PineH6 one. So I browsed for hours (because Im not at all familiar with this android weird partitions system, and with the OS itself). First I realized both Pine H6 and OPiOnePlus use the same ethernet controller (the realtek 8211). Then I went for the schematics, to actually check if the realtek chip was connected to the H6 the same way on both boards. Which it seems to be for…

I'm supposed to disable the hdmi and enable av-out by script.bin with something like [disp_init] My question is where is this file located? Am I suppose to vi create it? Hopefully someone could provide step by step or point me to the right direction with detailed information.

I have an OrangePi PC and a BananaPi M1, and both of them are able to switch to USB host mode or device mode by editing dr_mode in corresponding .dtb file. But seems that both board are not able to support HNP protocol. From my understanding, OrangePi PC and BananaPi M1 only has perpherial-only OTG, please correct me if I am wrong. Is there any board that can support HNP? I need something that can switch USB mode(from host mode to device mode or the other way around) without reboot the board Any advice is appreciated

I have a Windows PC and I'm going to install a Linux distribution to do some software development for my Raspberry Pi and my Orange Pi. I like Mint but since I am starting over... is there any specific OS that would be easier to use than another when I am looking at Pi? Like if I wanted to build a new Armbian image. What are people generally using as their main OS for development? Edit: Build docs mention this, so maybe Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is cleanest if that's already being used by some devs? creates development environment on the top of X86/AMD64 Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Thanks! If this is the wrong place to ask, please feel free to redirect me to another location. I'm thinking about using an SBC to create an application-specific coprocessor. A laptop would stream h.264/h.265 2kx2.5k yuv420p compressed video thru USB to the SBC (functioning as a USB gadget with separate power supply) and the SBC would decompress the video frames, apply a sequence of affine transforms to each (decompressed) image, and stream the warped, decompressed images back to the host. This would use the SBC hardware-assisted VPU decompression and GPU for warp processing, and the Arm CPU side would manage the YUV420p-RGB conversion and buffered super-speed USB t…

Not related to armbian distribution, just curious. I googled but had no luck to find an answer. For Allwinner SoCs, there is FEL boot tool to download bootloader, kernel and initramfs to ram and to boot the system directly, without writing those stuff onto flash storage and performing a reset; I wonder whether there is a tool to achieve the same function for rockchip SoCs? or we could modify the usbplug and rkdeveloptool to implement the function? or there are any limitations to prevent it? any comments or advices?

Hello. I am wondering if anyone here has Xenomai working for Amlogic platforms? I'm particularly interested in applying Xenomai to Le Potato/Sweat Potato. According to them, Xenomai is current and working for the Amlogic S905X3 (Odroid C4), though I have failed to find any source, patches, or images for that board. As far as I can tell, aside from some minor performance improvements here and there, the Odroid C4's SoC layout is very comparable to what the Potato boards have. So I only expect minor changes, if anything, to go from that SoC to the Potato's SoC. Xenomai's own guide to porting the dovetail interface is pretty good; I'll do that if I have too. I…

I had a untested touchscreen device lying in its box , presenting itself as: Bus 006 Device 002: ID 0eef:0001 D-WAV Scientific Co., Ltd eGalax TouchScreen The driver provided on their site (https://www.eeti.com/drivers_Linux.html) complains that the controller is non-HID and reverts back the installation. Armbian makes setting up an AP incredibly easy- I'm also enjoying NetworkManager, which I've stayed away from on my desktops until I started development with OPi Zero/Armbian Buster. I'm looking for an automatic, effective way to switch between my AP and a configured wireless network. If the wireless network is not available, I'd like the AP hot spot to run- if the wireless network is available, I'd like to automatically connect and not use the AP. Is anyone aware of a way, possibly even a simple script available that will run @ startup? Thanks- ACR

Hi, I am using Bluetooth and WiFi in the same time. Bluetooth is using for a whole time and WiFi 1 time per minute. So, I don't need WiFi connection very fast and do need most of network services. Due usage of AP6210 module, WiFi and BT shares the same communication channel (UART). I continuously send data (1Mbps) via Bluetooth. WiFi is used by my app 1 time per minute. The problem is that Bluetooth drops communication for about second. Reducing BT speed does not help. I noticed that when I download file from OPI board, that drops occurs much often. It seems that WiFi has a higher priority than BT in communication. Strange thing is that when I don't use WiFi network, i…

Hi! Using mainline on custom A20 board with sch very close to lime2, with 2 differences: (- EMAC of lime instead of GMAC of lime2) - AP6210 wifi/bt module on MMC3 with same schematic as cubietruck. A mfg firmware that enable module hardware control (to set power, channel, duty cycle, technology, etc); 2. A tool called wl that allows send commands For bluetooth a little program that controls this part. I'm looking for similar tools for certificate AP6210 but I cant find this anywhere. I have tried contact with AMPAK and no answer. Appreciate for any help.

Hi everybody, I'm using the Armbian Buster mainline based kernel 5.10.y image on https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero-plus-2-h3/ but I also tried the Focal one. I searched the forum deeply and I saw that someone in the past (forum post closed, otherwise I would have continued there) managed to have BT working by "faking" the /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin, that boot tries to load having error -2, copying the ap6212/fw_bcm43438a1.bin in its place. But it seems that it only works with legacy images, infact, with my mainline image I keep failing. Which legacy image should I look for? I was thinking that https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero…

Very often when i do apt update or apt dist-upgrade some of the armbian mirrors acts up and pretty much denies connections (it isnt the generic debian mirrors as other distros are working fine). I assume they are just overloaded and theres not much to do about that. How do I get this to work? for example some times i have to retry up to 10 times before I can get apt to work (when I try manually). The apt configuration in etc is a bit of magic to me so Id appreciate if someone can guide me to get unattended upgrades to retry connecti…
