  1. Hi all I would like to start this topic to discuss on the best approach for having some degree of data integrity using ARM SBC (aarch64 SoC in primis) My goal is to set a big archive, I have in program to build 5x8TB HD, scheme TBD The goal is to have at least one hard drive failure tolerance, it is acceptable that some data is lost during rebuild, since the main goal of the archive is to store picture and video, so it is tolerable that few pictures or video get corrupted, but the rebuild shall not stop in this case The write performances are not so important, but read performances shall sustain some video streaming, roughly at least 25 Mbytes/s M…

I have Google assistant running on Armbian on an Orange Pi Lite headless system. The sound output is via a USB sound card, as the Orange Pi Lite does not have n audio jack, but the volume is too low, even with volume set to max on alsamixer. I've been trying to figure out how to enable pre-amp, but have been unsuccessful. The current asoundrc is: pcm.!default { type asym capture.pcm "mic" playback.pcm "speaker" } pcm.mic { type plug slave { pcm "hw:0,0" format S16_LE } } pcm.speaker { type plug slave { pcm "hw:2,0" } } The only options in alsamixer are those pictured below and even with the volume at max, the output is too low. Sorry if that already has been answered, couldn't find anything via search function: I have a 1920x1200 TFT attached, works well with 1080p but of course everything is a bit stretched. I tried to understand how boot.cmd/scr work, but essentially there are no entries in those files for that resolution. Search for fdt_disp_mode showed up exactly 2 hits on Google So I'm a bit lost. Is it possible at all?

I have been trying to install a minimal XFCE4 desktop environment onto my Orange Pi Zero 2+ H5 but have run into a weird issue. Here is the command I use... sudo apt-get -y install xorg lightdm xfce4 tango-icon-theme gnome-icon-theme which I had found elsewhere in the forums. The main issue I have is that I cannot start the desktop with the normal user account. It works if I startup with this... sudo startxfce4 which runs the root user desktop, but fails when I try to run it as just a user. Does anybody know what I have done wrong?

  7. Hello, I'm pretty new to configuring networks completely with /etc/network/interfaces and have my problems with understanding how to set up my ports adequately. What I want to do is: I want to run a DHCP-Server on all the LAN-Ports and want to use the wireless Connection as a Gateway (using NAT, no bridge). I found this to setup the Switchports as bridged.https://github.com/armbian/build/issues/511#issuecomment-262571252 But I don't know how to set the whole system up. I read lots of introduction but all people are using the WAN-Port as Gateway and setting the wireless as Access Point. That's not what I want to do. And I also was…

Hey, I'm trying to setup the ports of the switch correctly but I don't arrive anywhere. I'm using the mainline armbian for my R1. Jun 2017 interfaces.r1switch But even if I completely copy a configuration file to /etc/network/interfaces there are still no packets arriving at the Ports named lan1 to lan4. I checked this with tcpdump -i interfaceName, but all packets are arriving at eth0. Only some IPv6 packets are arriving at the lan-ports. …

Hi, I am using Bluetooth and WiFi in the same time. Bluetooth is using for a whole time and WiFi 1 time per minute. So, I don't need WiFi connection very fast and do need most of network services. Due usage of AP6210 module, WiFi and BT shares the same communication channel (UART). I continuously send data (1Mbps) via Bluetooth. WiFi is used by my app 1 time per minute. The problem is that Bluetooth drops communication for about second. Reducing BT speed does not help. I noticed that when I download file from OPI board, that drops occurs much often. It seems that WiFi has a higher priority than BT in communication. Strange thing is that when I don't use WiFi network, i…

Has anyone tried to install PiVPN or EasyRSA on a Rock64? I tried this and had some issues where EasyRSA did not install. No errors were shown on the install or captured in the install log. Took me a while to figure out that EasyRSA was not installed. It even created .opvn files for clients... I finally figured out what happened. Did some research and found a suggestion to manually install some packages BEFORE installing PiVPN. That seems to work, so now I have a working VPN. I just wanted to see if anyone else is having an issue. I will also post on the PiVPN Github site to get their input. Thanks!

  30. For any one interested in software defined radio the OrangePi.pc and Armbian 5.05 software is a killer combination. The extra horsepower of the Allwinner H3 quad core and the clean Armbian Linux implementation give you a great platform for Software defined Radio. The $10 low cost RTL2838 dongle has an enormous amount to offer. But plugging it into a big computer laptop is not always practical It is often better to put the RTL2838 dongle as close to the antenna as possible. This could mean a long USB cable and voltage drop issues. So now you can buy a $9.99 Orange Pi.one and use it as a RTL to ethernet/ opt.wifi extender. You "just" Plug the RTL2838…

  33. Thank you for everything you’ve done. Armbian is amazing. On Raspberry PI devices, it’s possible to pass parameters to the kernel at boot-up and force certain IO pins to go high as soon as shutdown is complete. It’s along the lines of “dtoverlay=gpio-poweroff,gpiopin=xx”. I’m guessing that GPIO-POWEROFF is a kernel overlay, that it’s specific to Raspbian, and that Armbian may have a similar overlay. What’s the best way to discover the name of Armbian’s corresponding overlay, please? That overlay would enable me to configure the relevant single-board computer to send a signal at shutdown, a signal that would cause the charging/power circ…

In case you bought Samsung, SanDisk, Toshiba or Transcend SD cards within the last few months, have a A20 device and are able to test the card in question, please use this A20 Armbian 5.07 image (vanilla kernel, performance governor, no user creation), burn the image on the card, connect board to network, start it and do the following at least twice iozone -e -I -a -s 100M -r 4k -r 16k -r 512k -r 1024k -r 16384k -i 0 -i 1 -i 2 Please be aware that some cards seem to need some time for auto calibration when being first used s…

Hi all, I have a strange problem, when I make any file system changes, I can count to 10, pull out the power, and my changes are lost. My application sometimes requires changing of a settings file, and then quickish disconnection of power by the user (I know its not good, but it's a fact of the product) My current solution is to flush the write cache when I save the settings, I forget the command name, but that isn't ideal as other changes such as logging is lost. I'm using the armbian debian release at the moment. How can I change this write-cache timing to something like 2 seconds? Also, is this an SD-card technology issue or will the issue…

Hi everyone, I know this question has been answered earlier, but maybe something has changed with the recent versions of U-boot and kernel. So, is there any progress with support of NAND flash with A20 CPU in mainline kernel and U-boot? If NAND is not supported in U-boot, is it possible to load mainline kernel from legacy u-boot?

  86. The espressobin has three ethernet ports. In Ubuntu Armbian, left to right (looking into the ports), they're called "lan1", "lan0", and "wan". The weird thing is that you can't bring them up until you've *first* brought up eth0, which is not associated with a physical port. This causes all kinds of havoc trying to use /etc/network/interfaces/, because it takes a couple of seconds for eth0 to come up, in which time the other interfaces have already failed. 1) What is this mysterious eth0? 2) My attempts to bridge lan0 and lan1 from .../interfaces have failed. Got an example you can give me?
