Don't get me wrong i use SAMBA because i have not played so much with NFS. I agree with you, i have my weekly battle VS. SAMBA when my NAS reboot, the remote shares do not stay in the same mounted folder after reboot. It is in (OMV). It could be you had some nice tips? It was because of that i asked ;-) I have read alot of articles about NFS. So only if you had the golden trick or something you use in the daily? Thanks.

Having a hard time getting RTL8188EU WiFi dongle to work on orange pi pc 2. I’ve spent weeks trying to figure this out reading on the internet and a few posts on this forum. Tried installing several WiFi drivers including a few drivers from GitHub. The drivers appear to install successfully but when entering command $lshw, the device still shows as *-usb UNCLAIMED. Any help would be appreciated.

I have an OrangePi +2E with the latest version of armbian. Yesterday, after a sudo apt-get upgrade, chromium upgraded to 87.0.4280.88 (Build) built on Debian 10.7. After that chromium has become useless: probably the slowest browser ever. In case you ask: I've removed all the extensions and uninstalled the browser and then installed again. nothing changed. The older version worked just "fine" (relative to what an orange pi can offer in terms of performance, of course) Is this the end of internet browsing on armbian?

Hello, I have a cubitruck with Kodi which works quite well on an Armbian 5.20 Xenial_3.4.112 base and I want to upgrade to a new version. Yet I have read on many posts that say it is possible but without a howto it is difficult. Any lead is welcome. Thank you

I am creating a script that can backup sd-cards running on the system, resizing it with desired value or via resize2fs calculated. I learn a lot but there are a few things I don't fully understand. When I create a backup I dd what I understand is the bootsector, ie I grab the "start" position of the partition I am backing up with fidisk and use that value and a blocksize of 512. I then add another 10mb (in bytes) just to be sure. Usually the bootsector is 8192 big, but not always (IIRC nanopi neo3;s is WAY bigger). dd bs=512 count=$DDBOOTSECTOR if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=$IMG_FILE conv=noerror, sync status=progress I then truncate the file, calculated eithe…

Hello, I would like the ability to run Firefox or Chromuim rather than Gnome or any desktop environment when I start up my Orange Pi 5. This is for a device I'm setting up that (when rebooted) ideally won't even prompt the user to log in, it'll just directly bring up the browser and directly to a specific URL. Any thoughts on how I might do this? David

Hi Folks, In my continuing adventures in Armbian (coming from RHEL/Fedora professionally), I've discovered that Jessie uses very old packages for various things I'd like to use to get closer to a Fedora-like experience. For example, I'd really like to use https://packages.debian.org/testing/net/firewalld. Any advice you could give on how to use some testing packages on Armbian? I thought ensuring 'backports' was listed in my /etc/apt/sources.list file would do it but alas no dice. I've tried the following command based upon this Debian wiki page: https://wiki.debian.org/Backports#Installing_backports_on_the_command_line # aptitude -t jessie-backports insta…

There is a topic in allwinner subforum about the instability of the kernel 4.14.18 on some allwinner devices. I got that stability issues on my banana pi m1, and notice that the last kernel available on armbian still the 4.14.18. Today I also run apt upgrade on raspberry pi 3 and it installed the kernel 4.14.30 that stop the ipsec vpn working, the same as in 4.14.18 used on armbian. I feel some frustration on the latest kernel updates, and wondering if anyone have some info about the next kernel update that solve this issues. Do you advise me to change to nightly builds to get a new kernel to test?

Hey folks, I know I should rather post in the OMV forums, but those are in maintenance until next week, maybe someone here uses OMV on a HCx. I flashed the Armbian minimal image, booted, SSHd into it, ran updates, ran the OMV install script and rebooted. Now I still can SSH into the HC1, but the there is no OMV interface running for the browser. During the OMV installation it complained something about something like openmediavault-flashmedia or something but apart from that finished successfully as far as I can tell. Here's the output in the console windows as far as I can scroll back: Spoiler - directory mask = 0700 - …

I wonder if a port is possible and/or feasible, if it is, where can I check? I tried searching on documentations for a guide on how to start a port, but couldn't find anything. If I remember correctly, xiaomi-elish hardware is very related to xiaomi-alioth, to the point of some of the code for PMOS being shared, obviously each hardware has it's quirks but, I think it's possible, i do have the device for testing, and I have some knowledge of programming, but I can learn more in the process.

It's important to believe blindly in numbers! At least when you try to be mislead as much as possible! Yesterday Michael Larabel from Phoronix fired up his usual set of passive benchmarking tests for the new Raspberry Pi 3 and he still uses rather questionable results for other boards to compare with (he claims that it would be sufficient to use a board with 'factory settings', run a set of synthetic benchmarks, don't analyse the results or even think about whether they could be wrong and treat the results as the truth) RPi 3 is 4 times faster than OPi PC and 6 times faster than OPi Plus? Really? If you just try to think about these graphs for a second it…

Hi, I've read this post but it's two years old. What I need is a SBC (in order to save some energy costs, otherwise have to go to x86) that could be used as a small SOHO firewall and router and also small file and backup server. I'd need gigabit ethernet (preferably with dedicated controller), at least one, could buy a dongle to have another port. A SATA interface would be nice, otherwise USB 3 is needed. Probably at least two USB 3, one for the ethernet dongle, another for the SATA disk. UASP support would be great. The lower the cost and the more stable the best. What do you recommend?

Hi, I am using Rock Pi 4B and want to be able to turn the system on after sleep (suspend/hibernate or any other state that would allow it). Previously, I have used MRAA library to set an interrupt, and called system("shutdown now") inside interrupt code. I did it according to the following post and according to the MRAA examples. I wrote a shell script, which executes the MRAA program. Shell script, in its turn, is called by a service on a start-up. So, with this method I was able to shutdown the system, but I cannot get out of this state via button press. I researched few posts, such as: 1, 2, and 3. It looks like either I have to modify …

Good day! I have made modifications to the kernel driver for the temperature sensor Dallas ds18b20 on w1 bus. Slightly corrected timings, have achieved stable operation of sensors with parasitic power, and also added the option of changing the resolution. Now you can easily set 9,10,11 or 12bit resolution, by a simple command "echo 9..12 > /sys/bus/w1/devices/28-xxxxxxx/w1-resolution". Accordingly, when you lower the resolution significantly decreased the response time of the sensor from 1100ms (whith 12bit) down to 125ms (with 9bit). My question is can I post here the modified source code of the driver, or it will violate any rights? w1 folder, after mo…

I installed and compiled varios browsers based on QtWebKit - falkon, konqueror, otter-browser - and they are all pretty fast compared to their chromium/firefox colleagues. Unfortunately, the input of special characters (é, ñ, ü, ß) doesn't work. The letters appear as UTF code. However, the letters are displayed correctly in chromium/midori/firefox, and the console. Thus, I blame Qt. This is very annoying e.g. for webmailing and editing text, since typing in languages with special characters such as Spanish and German is practically impossible. Any idea how to fix that?

I see a lot of tutorials online and they all have seems to have different ways of going about making a share and it seems most of them are logged into a user as opposed to root. I'm logged in to root through ssh so that might the the cause of many of my issues I believe. I did a simple apt install samba and it seems to be running fine. I see other tutorials recommending you install "smbclient" and "cifs-utils", is that necessary? Some of the tutorials also say to add user groups and to add settings to the firewall. I am creating the image from source from the Armbian build repository on GitHub for an Orangepi5. I have altered the kernel configuration to force module signing. The .config is attached. My problem is that after the build there is no signing_key.pem in /certs. But when I get the source from Torvalds repository and not using Armbian build the file gets created. The following helps to realize the scope of my question: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v6.1/admin-guide/module-signing.html#generating-signing-keys .config

Hello everyone. I'm using the latest version of armbian for the NanoPi R2S. I noticed that the board has 4 exposed GPIO ports on the board. I'm interested in using the RX1 and TX1 and use it for the UART interface. It seems I cannot use it. It might be disabled by default. Can somebody confirm or not if UART1 is enabled by default and if not what should I do to enable it ? Thanks Guillaume

Hi, I realize that V3s is not H2 or H3, but I hope the question is generic. Is it possible to make the FB 16 bit? In mainline Linux? I'm working with a Lichee Pi board. The depth is 18 bits but the fb in Linux is 32 bit. I'd love to get it down to 16 bits to save 1/2 of the video memory and just 2 color bits are a small price to pay. I understand that Linux inherits the FB from u-boot.

I've been using debian on all my systems for a long time. On my x86 and x64 systems, debian_version always gets updated after dist-upgrades and upgrades. It has never been the case for my embedded boards running armbian jessie. I tried to research into what actually does the trigger, but I can't find any details. When I log in, my splashscreen confirms there are no new updates (I updated this morning). It's still showing 8.0 in /etc/debian_version. I expect to see /etc/debian_version reflect 8.4 Any ideas? sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... Hello, With NanoPI-m2 (debian jessie) and OrangePI-PC (ubuntu xenial) at hand, I try to detect states of hdmi and audio jack (plugged in or not). With nanopi I can get the hdmi state from syslog kern messages (HDMI HPD State 0x0 or 0x1, according to it's plugged in or not), but I haven't found something like that on Orange PI. And I've found no way to recognize if the audio jack is plugged in or not. Any suggestion, howto get that, will be greatly appreciated.

alright thanks @edupv Oh, and one another problem that bugs me once every one or two week in armbian 5.27, but in 5.40 it's almost everyday, The UASP stopped responding requests, it freeze entire system for several minutes, and every I/O to my hard drive makes the OS unresponsive. I was using ASMedia ASM1153E a years ago, and it show much problem. So I switch to JMicron JMS578, which doesn't error as often like ASMedia 1153E. I already read here (http://linux-sunxi.org/USB/UAS) and found out both ASM1153E and JMS578 is listed as OK right now. below is dmesg output when it started to freeze when I'm copying a file from my PC to…

Hello, I am using nanoPi Neo Core with mini shield nanoPi NEO CORE/CORE2. The OS that i am using is Armbian stretch downloaded from this link : https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo/ What I am trying to do is boot the OS from the SD card and have the filesystem on a SSD disk. In order to do that, I created a primary partiton on the disk using parted. Then I formatted the partition to ext4. I tried to execute nand-sata-install script using armbian-config. When I choose to boot from SD card system on SATA, the partiton of the disk that I created is found. When I select the partition, I got an error that the partition is too small…

http://www.cubietech.com/ website is available and even lists CB9 for sale ! But http://cubieboard.org/ website which provides support for CubieBoard (and O.S images) is down ! What gives ? Is CubieTech dead or alive ? Where can I find any (new or old) Linux images ? (for Cubieboard 4, specifically; I also had Cubieboard 3 / CubieTruck lying somewhere, but I can't find it anymore ...) A new Debian like v10 "Buster" or v11 "Bullseye" will support outdated Cubieboards ? Thanks in advance,

I want to use cubieboard 1 to host 5 websites. So I installed bind9 for dns in order to add godaddy and bigrock. Please keep wan and lan in mind when reading this. The wan address is 122.157.152.57, while the lan address is 192.168.1.2. Some applications are functional, while others are not. Godaddy and Rockbig have already added bind9 DNS. On wan, Apache isn't working. It travels to modem or router login (ip address: 192.168.1.1) at domian projectok.com, and I can view a test html page on the LAN. webmin is operational. proftpd: Failed to start qbittorrent is up and running. I have a cubietruck board and successfully moved my Armbian installation from my microSD card to my SSD. I would like to clean up the microSD card now and shrink it to a smaller size, so I can move the content to a smaller card. What do I actually need on that card to be able to boot to SSD? Just the '/boot' folder or does the boot loader need any other data to do its magic?

Hello, this question is not armbian specific but I am dealing with it while using armbian. I have 8GB microsd card but my armbian is using just 1.5GB on it. Now I need to clone/copy this card. I use win32diskimager (on windows) but disadvantage this approach is, that it makes bytedata image file (all 8GB of the whole microsd card even with blank space) but my data have 1.5GB only. Is there any utility/software which makes image with 1.5GB only? I mean when I burn 8GB image size after that to another microsd card, it takes 5x more time to finish as if I could burn just 1.5GB image. I think it must be able to do it somehow, because armbian images has abou…

v5.04 / 1.3.2016 section in https://docs.armbian.com/Release_Changelog/ says "suspend to RAM and resume by power button works now (consumption less than 0.4W without peripherals)". I'm looking for the board that works "suspend to RAM". I have a NanoPi NEO, but it seems not. Please tell me if "suspend to RAM" works on your board. Thanks. suspend to RAM and wakeup instruction: $ echo mem > /sys/power/state then, press "power key".

Hi team. I am having a difficult time getting the standard Opi CSI camera to work on the newest mainline Armbian. I don't have the ability to use a legacy version because it is coupled with a preconfigured Octopi, thanks to @ldiaz. He says that Octopi will work with the camera once the system works with the camera, and I have not been able to get it to work. There are at least a dozen threads here about that camera, but most are dated. And the ones that aren't seem to talk more about performance, and they assume that your camera is working. I also saw one about overlays, which I have no idea how to deal with, or even what they are. Something tells me it just isn't thi…

Hello, I've the Pi One H3 version that I always used with a HDMI to VGA adapter that worked ok until lately that stopped working. So I was thinking to connect the board to a TV monitor having DVI connection. I've tried both stable and experimental version of Armbian o.s. and it shows the same problem, basically it boots ok at native resolution (1280x768 60Hz) until it starts the desktop GUI and it goes to "no signal". If I return to the text console mode the monitor feel the signal again and at the same native panel resolution. I've tried both HDMI to DVI adapter at the monitor side and also an HDMI to DVI adapter and using a DVI cable on the board side and noth…

Hi, Recently I generated a U-boot with SPL for an A20 OrangePi board but couldn't get it to boot. I've tried to debug this and the best I could do is find the SPL hangs/waits in a function called dread. The last display is "Trying to boot from MMC1". The U-boot version is 2021.10-rc3 from the denx.de site. After I overwrote the SPL on the SD-card with an older SPL everything is fine. I've tried changing various config options but just can't get the new SPL to work. Has anybody made a U-boot from this latest release and got the SPL to work ? Or can anybody tell me the .config settings used when building the Armbian version so I can compare them to mine …

Good morning, I've got a Libre Computer Renegade, with Amrbian Bullseye minimal (on an sd card) . Hello everyone, I am new to Armbian and need some help. I tried to install Armbian 26.2.0-trunk (https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo/#collapse-widget-5-0-0-0) on a NanoPi NEO Core SBC. Hi there, I am quite new to Armbian (Debian), but experienced on Fedora (RedHat). I want to use national language support on my Armbian device [Orange Pi PL+]. In particular Polish (but if this post transforms into guide it will be for others too). How do I install(?) / enable (?) / rebuild (?) packages (especially GUI) to enable Polish language? With this, OPi / Armbian would be an "viable" alternative to some "STBs" (2x less price... freedom of installing packages). Fonts, keyboard (I saw only "Polish-Dvorak" which is not correct, should be "polish-programmers" - with ALT-Gr or Polish-"typewriter" which I guess is not available now), all these stuff. …
