I have an orange pi lite and I'm building my (dev 4.10) image using the Armbian tools. So far I figured out how to enable the DT overlays located in /boot/dtb/overlays by editing the armbianEnv.txt file and adding overlays=sun8i-h3-uart1 sun8i-h3-uart2 sun8i-h3-uart3 sun8i-h3-i2c0 sun8i-h3-spi0-spidev This now enables the various uart, i2c and spi ports I wish to use and that works. I'm trying to now set up a ADS7846 Touch controller using DTB I have copied the file from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/raspberrypi/linux/rpi-4.4.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/overlays/ads7846-overlay.dts and run dtc -I dts -O dtb ads7846-overlay.dts -o /boot/dtb/overlays/ads7846-ove…

  8. Hi, I wanted to know if there was an easy way to customize an existing released image or rebuild a released image. I know you can use the customize image option when building, but I would like to not build the latest nightly, but instead just build whatever was released. The customization I am looking to do is installing additional packages, downloading some personal python code, setting timezone and other similar settings. I searched the forums, but didn't see anything helpful, any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

  9. So, Just installed Arbian Xenial mainline/stable on a 32Gb microSD on a Cubietruck. Everything seems to be working well except when I attach an external USB 3.0 1Tb disk. It seems to keep issuing some kind of ATA command to query the disk and cause a clicking. I know its not the disk because it works fine elsewhere and theres some info in the dmesg about it (which I will post when I get a chance). Is this a known bug or not? And if Im able to track down the bug and fix it where should I submit a PR? Thanks for the great project! - Zack

Hi, first of all thank you for the great work. Let me tell you my story. I bought a Pinebook laptop some months ago and in my spare time I was playing with numerous OS-es. Installing and testing one by one. In total I've tested every single OS and so far Armbian is the winner. Why? Well because it is super fast, very stable, lightweight and with very simple xfce desktop look and feel. Now, like everything in life, there are some bad sides of Armbian. I am not sure if I will say something false or strange but I don't consider my self expert for hardware nor Linux world. So far I have also Raspberry Pi with Raspbian installed and don't see any bad si…

I am working on support for the ClockworkPi Gameshell main board. I have patches for the kernel, but it seems that the build system applies kernel patches on a "per family" basis. Indeed, looking at the 'kernel-patch.sh' script it seems the BOARD and TARGET variables that would let board specific patches work are commented out. I've read through the example PR's in the docs, but don't see an example of how applying board specific patches should work. I fear that if I put the patches into the normal flow, it will get applied to other boards within the sunxi family and things may break for other boards. Should kernel patches be crafted in a way that they SHOULD …

  13. Hi there, trying to iterate on making small changes to a kernel driver module, and using armbian to help build the kernel (cross-compiling off the device). I'm aware of kernel-patch mode, but for making small changes, compiling, and iterating like this over and over, making and then putting patches into place on each cycle is quite cumbersome. First a very big "Thank you", Igor. You create wonderful images. But now the problem. I want to boot the A20 from an eMMC Flash. I use a HAOYU New MarsBoard A20 Dev Board. Then I took the Pecovnik Olimex Lime2 Jessie 3.4.108 image and added the fex file from the MarsBoard SD image. After a fex2bin the MarsBoard bootet from SD0. Life was beautiful. The problems start if I wanted to contact the eMMC. I changed "[nand_para] nand_used" to 0. And I changed "[mmc2_para] sdc_used" to 1. Then the kernel gets in serious problems: <6>[mmc-msg] sdc2 se…

  20. As armbian incorporates some performance tweaks also with regards to IRQ balancing on Allwinner devices, I just wanted to note, that the irqbalance daemon now finally works on armhf in Debian Stretch. I had tried irqbalanced on arm several times over the last two years, and neither the versions shipped in Wheezy or Jessie actually worked (i.e. balanced IRQs over multiple cores). I also tried to compile a more recent version last year but couldn't get it to work. So, now after upgrading one of my BananaPis to Debian Stretch, I gave irqbalanced another shot and am happy to see that interrupts are now nicely balanced, including e.g. ethernet and USB interrupts.

However I've noticed one thing which I'm not sure if it's the image or a generic armbian issue but I've noticed that every time I reboot it the mac address updates. Some armbian users use the soft real-time features for either real-time audio (jackd), or control (eg. klipper_host_mcu), However, real-time group scheduling, enabled by this options complicates the user space configuration required to acquire real-time scheduling in applications and daemons. Setting ulimit -r or LimitRTPRIO= is no longer enough, it is also required to allocate CPU time for RT task. In a brutal way this can be done as echo 950000 > /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu,cpuacct/{system,user}.slice/cpu.rt_runtime_us JACK documentation recommends using c…

I didn't care much until I figured out that we loose all the UART1/2/3/4 (only keeping the debug UART0) as well as all I2C (except the one on r_pio for PMIC). So, "megous" github is back to almost what linux-sunxi github is providing, without all the patches for UART/I2C that I had prepared 3 months ago. I get I will have to re-integrate them on our side until there merge into real linxx-sunxi branch.

Hi. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. I was basically running my Radxa Rock 5 ITX home server on Armbian, on the edge upstream kernel for a long time. Somewhere during the 6.19 release candidate kernel series an instability arised, where the machine would hard lock "at random", so I switched to the current kernel since, which to this day remains on unaffected 6.18. But from time to time I try with edge again, and the instability is still present with the 7.1 upstream kernels. Moreover, with the load the machine has I can consistently trigger the lock up just by ssh-ing into the machine once it's been up for 10 minutes or …

  49. Hi, I have two meson64 SBCs where one is Khadas VIM 3 and the other is Odroid N2. They have been running almost the same setup and there has been minor differences with time. For the past months, I have had issues with the error Illegal instruction for my Odroid N2 server. I did a clean install earlier today (Armbian_23.02.2_Odroidn2_jammy_current_6.1.11) without success. For instance, I often face the error when running cryptsetup benchmark. Most of the time I have to reboot multiple times, reinstall cryptsetup packages, try the armhf packages and more. I have never had the same issue with Khadas VIM 3. The issue seems to be related to argon2i and…

Igor, to add some applications ( for example, https://github.com/Freescale/gstreamer-imx), it would be nice to have the possibility, to enter at some point into the chroot, and compiling software, and installing it. Or, add a "just mount exisiting image" function to your scripts. For example, base image is finished, and then I can use a function, that unpack, mount, the existing image, and allow "the costumer" to enter into chroot. What do you think? Peter

What I'm thinking is, if this option works fine, should nand-sata-install script to be reworked? Instead of using the old SDK u-boot, mainline spl+u-boot to be packed in the bootloader deb and then written somehow? At this point as I can see only CHIP_pro has this feature enabled.

  97. Started by Meestor_X,

Armbian is written to a µSD card as a small file (a gig or two if I recall). If the card is 64gigs, the image is still just a few gigs written to that card. When booted on the device, though, it automatically expands the file system to the full size of the card. How exactly does it do that? And... How do I do the reverse? Take the file system from a working armbian install and create a small image that when written to a µSD card, will stay small, but then auto-expand when booted on a device?

  98. I was doing some testing today on aml-s9xx-box builds and noticed that with meson64-current (6.0.13) kernels the boot logo is showing, but with meson64-edge (6.1.0) kernels it does not. I know there was a recent commit that probably is causing this, something about removing the old way of handling boot logos. So my question is, what needs to change to convert to the new way? I suspect it has something to do with the append line that the build process is inserting into the extlinux.conf file: append root=UUID=0ffde9aa-5a6a-4d6f-bbef-0d8daf439537 rw no_console_suspend c onsoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 bo…

  99. Hi All, this is my 1st post here. If I'm mistaken where or what placing here, please pardon me and direct me to the right place. Please illuminate my ignorance, concerning the subject. I think it is implementation dependent, how usleep(3) is treated, when found in an interrupt service call back routine. Is it just ignored?, or are ISRs executed as threads and usleep(3) works?? Moreover, the ISR is called from a Real_Timer int (sigalrm). Thank's and best regards hk
