For those of you running a large SBC cluster - what is your solution for powering your boards. I currently have a cluster of 18 boards that I am powering with several multiport usb chargers. My setup does work well but I am looking for alternative solutions. I'm thinking of expanding my cluster to 50 or more boards and I don't like the prospect of purchasing so many of these multiport chargers as they're a little bit expensive. And I also don't know about the long term reliability of my current setup as I have only been going for about 2 months now. I would love to hear about and see other people's SBC cluster powering solutions. EDIT: …

Hi everyone. tell me: I'm making a print server for the hp designjet t520 printer based on armbian and orange pi pc2. data transmission over a wi-fi network (railink 7600u). there are some problems: no ppd driver for this printer, usb-ip, ipp-everywhere, hp pcl6 do not work. the printer, even after upgrade firmware, does not understand data transfer via usb, only rj45. cups, hp lip does not understand the printer. in the windows settings of the printer for the print server set-generic network card, hp jet direct-data transfer is in progress, only when microsoft color publisher printer is selected, the printer transfers a file with normal weight, but there is a limitation …

Hello. After my provider (Unitymedia/Vodafone NRW/Germany) asked to run a complete new station search my installation stopped working for me:Stations were missing, EPG-infos not displayed anymore. So I decided to make a hole new installation. The DVB-USB stick was detected fine again (see picture), the configuration wizard is executed step by step, the scan process starts - but stays at 89%, even after 3 hours (see picture). If I stop ithe process, several stations are missing, the EPG-info is missing in wide parts of the stations and the EPG-search is not working at all.. Hi, Not sure where to post this so apologies if this is the wrong place. I currently have a .me.uk email domain and I can confirm addresses if I change them. However I am in the process of migrating to a .email domain and the confirmation emails never arrive. I am running into minor issues with this domain so this is not unique to Armbian forums. The vast majority of sites work ok but a rare few claim my email address is invalid or (as with the armbian forum) I never receive anything. The only way I have been able to post this was to change my email back to .me.uk and confirm via that. Is it possible to check if the softw…

I've been testing Pi Hole for a few days on an Orange Pi PC with ARMBIAN jessie, connected to the network by the ethernet port. Pi Hole which is the last thing I installed. I'm having some success installing Debian on Raspberry Pi 3B+ and thought I'd proceed with making an Armbian build in order to have equivalent environments with other boards in my cluster. Is there any process/channel for this or should I just make a PR on the repo? What are some particular prerequisites I should be aware of that might block it from merging? I am very aware of armbian's stance on Raspberry Pi, and I understand you do not want to support it officially (if nothing else because you'd have difficulty handling the incoming clueless users), but I think there are a lot in the intended armbian audience who have Raspis lying around who would be ha…

Hello, in a Overlay (compatible = "simple-panel-dsi";) I have the following proerties: reset-gpios = <&gpio8 3 1>; /* GPIO8_A3 */ reset-delay-ms = <10>; enable-delay-ms = <60>; ... in the panel-simple.c driver File I can find the properties "reset-delay-ms", "enable-delay-ms" - but not the "reset-gpios" property. Even though the reset at GPIO8_A3 is working correctly. I also had no success to find this property in another file... so I'm very confused about where or in which driver / include is this property defined/specified? I also have tried to search "reset-gpios" in all files with grep, see below, but I could not find a related …

HI , there I have a system on emmc protected by overlayroot. Sensitive data are written to sd card. Everything works as expected. The question is: Is there a way to temporarily access the root filesystem from python script ? Of course, I can temporarily deactivate protection by ‘overlayroot-chroot’ command from terminal and make changes, but that's not what I mean. I have a web server application written in a flask framework. On one of its pages, users can set network parameters, e.g. IP, mask, dns . Is it possible at all, eg when the user accepts changes to disable protection, save changes to root filesystem and immediately enable protection ?

Hi All, I'm a bit of a Debian newbie, I haven't had much experience troubleshooting linux installations, so please bear with me. I was able to follow Martin Michlmayr's instructions for installing Debian 10 on my TS-212. The TS-212 uses a Marvell ARM CPU, 256MB of ram, 16MB of SPI NOR flash. I also followed the instructions to resize the MTD blocks to make room for the Debian 11 kernel, although i never updated the kernel. Everything was working fine until I booted one day and I got flashing red lights on the front of the NAS. I hooked up to the debug serial port, and I find that the hard drive has all kinds of non-recoverable errors, and Debian …

Hi, I have been studying Armbian's build script, and I have managed to extrapolate a standalone u-boot build process for my NanoPC-T4 by cherry-picking the relevant commands / patches from the builder repo: https://github.com/tmountain/u-boot-nanopct4 This works well, and it opens the door for additional flexibility for those who need it regarding making the most of their hardware. That said, it raises a few questions. 1) My NanoPC-T4 will not boot without the Armbian patches. The vanilla u-boot does not work out of the box. I reported this issue here, but I'm wondering if the Armbian folks ever try to get patches back into …

Hello, after I've read the NAS topic ( http://linux-sunxi.org/Sunxi_devices_as_NAS) and the importance of random I/O performance in the SD card made by tkaiser. I'm here to ask what board can you advise for: During day-time: stream box w/ kodi (resolution 1080) if possible without laggy use During night: running daemon of torrent e.g Trasmission (or NAS server) Never happen that both activities are made in same time. I think that for night-time use it would be recommend use a internal hard disk attached to a SATA port. I don't need high performance of trasmitting data because internet speed here is only ADSL 12Mbps download and 0.8Mbps Upload. The only thing is not …

I have an OrangePi Prime with 2 GB RAM. I'm running a server-like node.js app that does constant writes to .json files and text log files. Let's call it "database storage". The app is not otherwise RAM intensive, can run fine on 512 MB boards. I'm thinking of putting all my RAM to use and move the database storage to a RAM disk made with Zram. Do you see any potential problems and interference with the way Zram is configured for this board?

IMHO, XR819 is killing the OPi0 golden goose...All else looks so perfect for the price ! Can't they just go back to RTL8189 in the next couple production batches? Will that make life easier? Ironic to hear that XR819 has its own ARM core- what good is the core? What is the prospect of Xunlong offering a eMMC 4-8GB version of OPi0? SD cards are expensive and unreliable, plus can add an SD card drive for more memory. And adding a power barrel to the $2 expansion board that is otherwise just what is needed, maybe make it $2.50? My take: OPi0 v2 512MB, say $12-15, with RTL8189, 4-8 GB eMMC + $2.50 expansion board adding power barrel + Armbian OS = market winn…

Hi everyone, I am developing an industrial system using a Raspberry Pi 5 (Raspberry Pi OS Bookworm). Because it is deployed in an environment with abrupt power cutoffs, I am facing an issue where the default pink and white splash screen randomly reappears during boot, overriding my configuration. Here is what I have already implemented to prevent this: Disabled Splash Screen: Added disable_splash=1 to /boot/firmware/config.txt. Read-Only File System: Enabled the native Overlay File System via raspi-config to protect the boot and root partitions from corruption. Industrial Hardware: Tested with high-end storage to rule out basic SD card degradation…

Hi, I have a OpenVPN server running on the broadband router installed at my parents house. My router at home connects to this and I mirror my complete NAS over this connection. My brother also has a laptop on which he uses VPN occasionally to copy important stuff there. Since the router has only a small dual core MIPS CPU, VPN speeds are limited to about 18Mbit/s. The connection at my parents home is 100/50Mbit/s and mine at home 250/80Mbit/s, so it could work faster. Also, the VPN takes up all the CPU so for example DNS resolution is slow if the VPN is saturated. For this reason, I'd like to buy a inexpensive small device tha…

There are many people who tend to use old phone chargers on there systems and wonder why things become problematic after a good while of usage. I would like to share with you my preferred method to deliver power to dev boards. I utilse these shown in the link below. I have found these type to be incredibly stable after 18 months of running one nonstop on a live system i can happily describe them as rock solid and superbly over…

My MXQ Pro died and I'm looking for a cheap replacement with onboard wifi. My requirement is to run a desktop app (WSJT-X) on a headless device with tightvnc server to my android tablet. WSJT-X uses a soundcard, so I need at least one USB port. Not sure if I can do this but I'd also like the new sbc to be the hotspot that my tablet connects to. In the past I've used a cell phone as a hotspot with the MXQ and tablet connecting to it. It would be nice to remove the cell phone from the equation. Thanks.

Hi, I've been looking around for an Arm development platform. Banana Pi seems to be about the best value for money. I've been looking around at some TV boxes. However, I see mixed opinions about these being a option. SBCs seem to be almost twice the price of similar spec Arm TV box. Processing power and memory are mostly my priorities. Anything over 4GB seems insanely expensive. I can do SMD soldering work. So modding at TV box is an option. Are there any options for an 8gb Octa core system that isn't going to cost more than a decent PC?

First let me share my target needs of the project: -1. ARM CPU (run Linux) - I think for my project, Quad-Core is more than enough -2. RAM 1GB/2GB -3. eMMC 16GB for OS Boot -4. SD Card for file storage (up-to 512GB) -5. Two USB2.0 (One Host Mode and One Device Mode) and one USB3.0 (Only Host Mode is Ok. Its for faster file transfer to connected external Portable HDD) -6. But in Touchscreen Datasheet it said LCD Driver IC is ILI9488. As H6 have direct RGB Port so do we need to use this ILI9488 Driver? …

I started down the road of using an ESP8266, but GPIO.INT was flaky and GPIO pins limited, so I ordered a MCP23017 and figured Why not just do everything with one NanoPi Duo? I have a few of them and they are made for breadboard prototyping. Plus with the built in Ethernet I can have wired primary and wireless backup networking. I even rolled my own Ethernet adapter since the breakout adapters cost $5+. If you have already done this and have any wisdom to share I'd like to hear it. No turning back now!

Is there any official way to report typos and broken links on www.armbian.com ? I see that link to H3 FAQ is broken: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/blob/master/documentation/H3_mini_faq.md Should be: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/blob/master/documentation/main-03-H3_mini_faq.md Don't know if this is known issue.

Suggestion for a (near future) product. We're still lacking a good SBC out in the wild for small clusters.. Recent SoC performance is good.. Currently all the homelab and k8s nerds are just using RPI4s because they have a header for POE support. We know there are better options. We had pitched this to orange pi but weren't receptive. Just sharing my idea here. A Lean SBC exclusively for server tasks. "The Ultimate Homelab SBC" Real 802.11at POE+ means only 1 cable for your compute node Use SPI flash for custom provisioning configuration Optimized for Compute "Ready for clustering and kubernetes" Has the …

Hello I am having a hard time trying to find some of the boards in Europe. Odroid and NanoPI are rather common, but Banana Pi, Orange Pi, Tritium, Olimex ... seem to be hard to find. Can anybody point me to a list of vendors, or maybe post them here (if it's OK with the forum rules)? Regards, Patrick

Hi, I am trying to run ubuntu 14.04 on a rk3066 SoC. I am having trouble with X not configuring itself properly. The Screen is limited to left half of the momitor. I may not have the most appropriate driver since I only have fbdev but it is enough for my purposes -general browsing. I dont need 2D/3D hw accelaration etc. I tried to work driectly with the framebuffer (/dev/fb0) using fbi image viewer and it displays full screen. The resolution reported is correct too -1920x1080 but for some reason Xorg runs at half screen. I cant seem to change x settings via xrandr -it looks like there is a bug in xrandr when fbdev is used. (google failed to get size of gamma fo…

Is there a way to dual RK3399 on one board?
-
Hi guys! so, i've noted a major difference between the friendlyarm rk3399 sbcs and the other models, ant that's bc the friendly arm rk3399s run at 1866 mhz while the other models run at 1600 mhz. that means 100 glmark2 points less, for example.I would like to know how to use this bootloader instead, and even then, how to even go further. I overclocked my rockpro64 to 2.2 ghz for the big cores and 1.8 for the low power cores. Its interesting how much performance we can get with this cosmetic changes. obviously, its at my own risk. the rockpro64 was tested at higher frequencies than 1866 mhz, so I would expect at least that armbian should b…

Hi. Around a month ago, my Rock 3A arrived and I got to playing with it. I noticed that there was a community build configuration for it, so I set up an Armbian build environment and got to building it. The image built without error and before I knew it my device had booted. However, since then, a few changes have been made to the Rock 3A (including receiving a proper Armbian maintainer), and now it seems to be completely broken. This issue seems to be reproducible, with people both being able to boot the board with old images as well as not being able to boot with fresh images. There seems to be some work happening towards fixing u-boot (which seems to be …

Hi, I have a Rock Pi 4B and trying to enable Monitor Mode on the onboard WiFi. According to this article it should work - RockPi4-Monitor-Mode The file download link is broken so was advised to use this one - https://github.com/radxa/rkwifibt/blob/master/brcm_tools/dhd_priv.c However when running the command - gcc dhd_priv.c -o dhd_priv I just get loads of errors. Has anyone managed to use monitor mode with the built in WiFi, or could possibly help to resolve all the error messages you get

Hi, I was checking the Rock Pi 4C, because of it’s dual display capabilities (I have two monitors and will like to use them in extended mode) But according to this: https://shop.allnetchina.cn/collections/frontpage/products/rock-pi-4c-board-only-2-4-5ghz-wlan-bluetooth-5-0 a mini DP to HDMI is not supported, both of my monitors are HDMI only. I thought that the conversion was merely hardware. Could someone explain this or give me a recommendation for an ARM board supporting multiple (hdmi) displays? Thanks

Recently, a new SBC, the Rock Pi S by Radxa, was launched. Here's it's wiki page: https://wiki.radxa.com/RockpiS It's a 4 core A35 design. I'm debating getting one, but I can't find any information anywhere as to whether or not it's supported on Linux, or Armbian. Of course, if it's not listed in the download section it's not supported, but there's a difference between, "I need to add 100 lines of code and it will work." to "Geez, I need to redesign most of the Linux kernel after pulling my hair out." I did search the sunxi wiki and the local armbian wiki without success. Anyone know anything? Thanks!

Hi, I have a simple question: we need to buy some ARM 64 boards and we would like to select the Rock64 (2G and 4G) - I saw that now Rock64 is CSC (community only supported). Being our priority to use Armbian OS on the boards, does this means that we could not see Armbian no more supported (no upgrades) in the next future? Thanks Franco

Hello all, I had diet-pi on my rock64 for the last few years but recently decided to install armbian debian community maintained firmware. Everything is working fine but I seem to get a new core fw on an almost daily basis (armbian-bsp-cli-rock64-current) and the board needs to be rebooted each time. An I using the wrong repo or is this normal? Should i consider running stock debian instead of armbian?

I would like to create an ubuntu desktop image for a rk3066-based dongle (measy u2a). Is there anything in this website where start from? Or something ready-to-try? Will the docs here be helpful? I managed to run armbian on a measy u1a (which has a Allwinner A10) by simply flashing sdcard with an image (Lime A10) found here, I would like to do the same with rk3066. Thanks, Antonio

Hi! First of all I want to thank the people behind this project, you are doing an excellent job. Second, I am new, like very new to this world of SBCs and Linux, decided to experiment new things while being furloughed from my job, as airline pilot in North America. I bought a Rockpi 4C and at first I installed the image from Radxa and joined their forum, and bumped into an post from Igor in which he suggested to try Armbian because things were more easier, and boy was he right about that?! Yes I flashed Armbian Focal (CLI) to my emmc and armbian-config really does the job.. it makes your like way to easier. The image I flashed was the 20.11.6 Focal…

(placeholder for a Board Bring Up thread -- now just collecting random nonsense) Board arrived today. Running with ayufan's Debian 9 image (using 1.8/1.4GHz settings for the big.LITTLE cores for whatever reasons instead of 2.0/1.5GHz) I checked for heat dissipation with Pine Inc's huge heatsink first. Huge heatsink combined with thin thermal pad shows really nice thermal values: below 50°C when running cpuburn-a53 on two A53 and two A72 cores in parallel with a fan blowing above the heatsink's surface Board in upright positition still running same cpuburn-a53 task without fan after 20 minutes reports still below 85°C …

Hi, This is new to me and probably to you too. If you look a little bit around in this Forum you will find that RPi-Monitor is a well known tool and can be adjusted to your SoC. Now I found this project on Github RPi-MonitorWatcher Raspberry Pi Monitor Watcher is an Android application to view the status of your Raspberry Pis. It uses the API provided by Raspberry Pi Monitor. Someone might now think "my mobile has a browser" what do I need this for. Because you can I cannot find an .apk if you are smarter than me and know what I have to do to get this I would be grateful. Cheers Tido

I just picked up a USB-C hub, it has 3 USB 3.0 ports, 2 SD card slots (standard and micro), a DVI and a GbE ethernet. Using it with my NanoPC T4, and a test with the Renegade Elite (not Armbian) both showed an odd behavior with the GbE, the driver loads, but then claims it doesn't recognize the device after reading it's firmware. Does anyone else have an adapter based on this chip? I wonder how much ram is consumed by kernel, system services and tmpfs on a typical armbian system? Rockchip rk3308G has 64MB ram packaged in cpu. A dirty cheap 4 layer board could have a cpu, a few discrete power chips, a mmc card slot, and a wifi/bt module, with a bunch of low speed io and two usb 2.0 port, one host and one otg. The cpu is quad core cortex A35, powerful and power efficient, compared to Pi Zero W or BBB. Does that sound interesting for an iot node? Or it is too crippled to do anything useful? I hope python or node.js could run on such a board, but for node, the memory usage should be very careful. Any suggestions?

https://github.com/MockbaTheBorg/RunCPM there is a nice little CP/M emulator which do compile fine under armbian. (There is also a version for the Arduino DUE with SD-Hat or a ESP32/Teensy) With that you can run many CP/M-Software like Wordstar, dBase II and so on Special on this emulation is that it do use directorys as drives The directory A (or A/0/) would be Drive A> Maybe you also want do something retro this weekend? hello dear all , good evening dear Arm-Experts and all Armbian-supporters, normally i am on Banana-Pi and Orange-Pi, on Udoo and Ordoit - all of those run with Arm-Operating-Systems from this great site. today one little question - i have with Raspi: I’ve just purchased a Raspberry Pi 3 and i’ve installed OpenElec onto the raspi so that i can run the Kodi. After this step - after this first step - I’ve succesfully set it all up and i’ve managed to get the USB ports. It seems to be working with a wireless wifi dongle. And that seems pretty fantastic. I am glad about this. So the next thing i did is to add a keyboard.i took a wireles…
