A Beelink X2 by default boots into Android with KODI and can be interrupted to instead boot into Armbian off an SD card. It might be quite advantageous to use a microSD card to jump start Armbian installed on a USB stick plugged in. Cost is one reason: the TF cards cost what the Beelink does, and lots of us have lots of premium USB sticks at less than half the price. This way it could be easier to experiment and even have a personal USB stick for friends and family. When it comes to family media this would help everyone. Myself I'd try various home clouds and server schemes, and whatever wins, just run that from the TF slot later on. Plus if you …

  9. On my journey to finding the best solution for cross SBC/cross language GPIO support I went through the same issues as Python by the C side author did it seems and landed on CFFI. This is faster than ctypes and seem more natural to program with. ctypesgen (the code generator) doen't really support Python 3, so I've hit a dead end there. It seems like JNA is still the best choice for Java bindings, so I'm sticking with that for now. In any event I threw together a button press app that uses CFFI and libgrpiod. I'll be updating my bindings project to support this soon. libgpiod version 1.1.devel Name: gpiochip1, label: 1f02c00.pinctrl, lines: 32 Press button…

I think that I have only two options: go with SBC with EMMC or just buy cheap 32/64 GB SSD with USB adapter. What do you think, which option gives me better durability? Can I assume that EMMC is really durable comparing to SD card? Is USB 2.0 adapter as fast as EMMC?

It doesn't have to be anything particularly performing, just that it can handle 720p videos and resolutions smoothly enough, that it can be used to surf the internet even with several open tabs and maybe some basic office things. 19. Hi all, I'm interested in developing and selling a product containing an Orange Pi or Raspberry Pi with embedded software protected by Intellectual Property. I would like it to be as hard as possible for a customer/hacker to get root access or steal software or data out of it. Hello all, I'm doing a project which is essentially a lighted cube, that communicates status through different colors, where I get this ides from Basic Projects with Arduino (link removed). So when the light goes below a certain level it turns a certain color, when temp goes above a certain level it turns another color, etc. I'm figuring I'll probably need anywhere from 2 to 4 LEDs per color to get a nice intensity, and the colors would breathe, which is pretty easy with PWM on the arduino. What I'm thinking is that I'm going to leave all the colors in phase. So that the intensity ramp on red is the same as yellow, is the same as green, etc. That would requi…

I was able to build the property file for the NanoPi M1 in about 20 minutes, so now basically you can do ~2 MHz GPIO square wave on all Allwinner and S905 CPUs (you listening @TonyMac32?) without any special code or adapters. All other libraries require one off code to support GPIO register access thus they only support limited boards. In my mind this is the holy grail for cross platform GPIO performance. I plan on going through some more diverse boards, but I'm happy with the results so far. Since only one core is utilized you'll average 25% CPU utilization on quad core systems. That may be another goal using two threads to improve performance further. I have currently m…

  53. Hi, my Cubieboard 1 was burned, so I'm looking for next board. What I need: - ownCloud (newer had yet); - MPD; - spdif; - SATA (alternatively via USB?); - maybe simple www server. I don't need video , but I would like to connect some extra modules, like nRF24L01 radio via SPI or alphanumeric LCD via IIC etc. Odroid C2 is powerful, but without SPI, SATA and audio outputs. So maybe C1+? A20-OLinuXino-LIME2 is OK, but Allwinner again... What else? And the most important thing: Armbian:)

I received the BPI M2 Ultra a couple of days ago (thanks to Nora Lee for the board) and worked a while on the BSP to learn and apply some of our changes on the ov5640 driver to be able to use Auto Focus and see if i could get Guvcview working on it. Here are some of my findings: * Working with the BSP is very similar to what we were used to on the Cubieboard A10/A20 era, those who worked with BSP at that time will feel very comfortable. * As usual, the BSP used arm-linux-gnueabi to compile the u-boot and kernel, i think is the Android way, and parses FEX to build a DTB. (Thanks to my old dual-core PC running Lubuntu). * It is hard to know where to change in the …

I just released a simple library for the MAX7219 LED matrix controller. It allows controlling any number of cascaded controllers in a very simple way. I tested it on an Orange Pi Lite. Even though it says it needs 5V, I ran the board @ 3.3v, it worked fine and didn't require any 3.3v->5v level converters. Here's the code: https://github.com/bitbank2/MAX7219 And a video of it in action: https://photos.app.goo.gl/iO66bsy6Wk13lT1y2

  57. Hey folks, Wondering if anyone has come across a dual core or better single board computer that has dual native gigabit ethernet? I'm also trying to find something around $50.. so far the best I've found is the: NXP FRDM-LS1012A-PA - $50 which has good BSP and hardware packet accelerator but only single core @ 800 MHz As a last resort, I'm considering the NanoPi Neo4 with a USB to Gigabit ethernet adapter, thats about $75 with heatsink and USB 3.0 to Gigabit adapter.

I am using an ATX SMPS to power my Orange Pi Plus 2 via 5V supply. It worked fine for a couple of days without problem until yesterday. I happend to connect my audio amplifier TPA3116 which worked fine. After which when i was switching some cables i happend to short the 12V supply. The smps immediately shut itself down. Now i removed the short and disconnect the audio amplifier from 12V supply. After this when i started the orange pi there was no more any indication. I wanted to know that if the 12V short let to an inrush current spike at the 5V power section. If any one on this forum is aware of fuses present on the orange pi board.

  62. The past few weeks I did see a lot of anger and frustration on this forum. Key contributors of the forum (.. Armbian developers) seem to struggle with the level of their audience. People ask for functionality which is not around because of bad hardware, people aspect certain things from Armbian which are not possible, people expect “out of the box” solutions, no feedback from users, etc., etc. I personally think this is getting more and more a problem. The risk is that key Armbian developers get frustrated and not motivated to continue their absolute fantastic contribution to the development of “THE NUMBER ONE OS” for SoC Arm boards! I think it is best t…

  68. I've been seeding torrents on my CubieBoard2 earlier; in Juli I moved to one of my EspressoBIN boards. I allocated 128GB for the torrents (since it was stated that I needed at least 60GB for Armbian). -But now Armbian seem to take up 123GB on my dedicated transmission partition: $ df -h . Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdc13 128G 123G 4.5G 97% /transmission It seems I have 388 completed Armbian files (and no other files). -Does this mean that something went out of control - like files not being deleted - or does it mean that the torrents use this much space now ?

Since SSDs are still too small (or much too expensive for my purpose) I need to use a standard 3,5 HD and those will need that much power (on spin-on at least) that I can't use the Banana SATA to power up the HD, right? Can those people that use banana pi et al. as NAS tell me what kind of external power supply they use with what type of connector? If you can recommend low-power HDs I'd like to hear that too. Are there power supplys that can safely feed the Banana pi itself and the HD? Preferably without soldering the connectors?
