  2. Does anybody have a solution how to charge battery with more conservative voltage range? I'm using battery backup for my CubieTruck boards to survive power outages for several years. And as one of the batteries recently blew up (and also killed the backup HDD next to it) I try to find a way to charge the battery in a range that preserves health of it. When searching for a long-term-save voltage range of LiPo batteries you get something like: use only half of capacity, much below 4V, never deep charge, ... Default setting for the AXP209 charge controller is to charge to 4,2V, and emergency shutdown is at 2,9V. These ranges are much too broad and may damage…

  3. Hi everyone, I am a LINUX beginner. and I have a NanoPi M4V2, and want to build a mini NAS with OpenMediaVault 5 under Armbian (OMV5 can only run in Armbiam/Debian, not available in Ubuntu) The M4V2 has a SATA hat, and it can support up to 4 hard drives (2.5 inches size), so the SATA hat is powered separately, and I guess this is why it always gets overheat This is what it looks like. There is a 12V fan interface (2pin) on this SATA hat, just right biside the power button. And I found that there are already some solution in the forum of armbian.com, all kinds of scripts, some can drive the Fan according to the CPU's temperature, or even …

Suppose that you have a bunch of dtb/dts files that are known good (like from Linux kernel source). Suppose that you have a dtb file that you ripped out of some new device and probably no source code. This tool will allow to dump all of the parameters (nodes) out of the dtb file and compare it with all of the other ones that you have in a spreadsheet so that you can visualise the differences. See https://github.com/dieselnutjob/dts2tsv

  7. Hello guys! As I'm trying to build a retrogaming handheld device, I stumbled about a problem concerning the framerate of my LCD display(ili9341). I'm using SPI to communicate with it and I have a hard time getting it to run >25FPS. As a solution I found 2 github repositories which also deal with the given problem. The first thing I tried was BB-CP from bitbank (https://github.com/bitbank2/BB-CP). Everything works pretty well but I can't get it to work in 16bit mode and in 32bit mode I can't get over 18FPS. Whenever I switch the Framebuffer depth to 16bit my screen goes full ham and shows a.) complete wrong colors or b.) just random colored stripes, rectangles or dots…

If not pause reading here and check out this topic and resume here after done: Hey, you found your way back. Nice. As stated I want to give away IRC bouncers for whoever likes to have one. It is not bound to Freenode (although it will come pre-configured for #armbian and I would appreciate to see you hang around there ). You are free to connect any IRC network you want as long as it is IPv6 capable. You don't know what a bouncer is? Pause reading and check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNC_(software) A…

  9. Noob question - Forgive me here, I'm quite new to u-boot. I made a change in my /boot/armbianENV.txt and my Tinkerboard won't boot. I know exactly what to fix, except I'm not accustomed to not being able to find the file. I've mounted the SD Card on another Linux OS and can see/mount all my partitions, I have them mounted but none of the /boot directories are what is typically there when armbian is booted. I'm assuming u-boot is an image and /boot gets dynamically created. Done some searching but not making much sense of what I'm seeing. How/Where do I find the /boot/armbianENV.txt file with the SD Card mounted to another machine? Thanks in advance.

I know I could get an aarch64 workstation, run a 64 bits kernel on it and a 32 bits userspace on top of it, but where is the fun? One year ago or so, I built an armv7 Docker image for me, and I realized only this week that it had been downloaded more than 2 million times. What a pleasant surprise. I launched the build once again to get everything updated, but I discovered the armv7 CI/CD services I used to run my builds on were ... gone. 23. I run Armbian on a SanDisk 64GB micro SD card -- using it on Asus TB. Most of the SD card is free space and while I want to keep Armbian as is for the TB, I want to create a multi-OS folder for music and photos. I.e. to use on Android phone, Win PC, Linux Mint computer, etc. Are there any Armbian drawbacks to creating/having such a folder? If not, should I use Armbian to create the empty folder (henceforth, it will be filled with files from multiple devices)? Is there a "best" location to create this generic folder within the Ambian OS card--i.e., as a sub-folder of a default Armbian directory?

  24. I just released a new C library for communicating with those inexpensive 4-digit 7-segment LED displays: https://github.com/bitbank2/tm1637 They can run on 3.3V or 5V and draw between 1 and 15mA depending on the brightness setting. I purchased mine from an AliExpress vendor for 68 cents each with free shipping. They use a custom 2-wire communications protocol and must be "bit-banged" from 2 GPIO pins. In my demo, I assign pins 38 and 40 on my Orange Pi Lite.

  26. Hi all. I've always been using the OPi+ as NAS. That gets me up to 13MB/s. More than enough for me. All that is on it are backups, movies and mp3's. It's only got 100Mbps ethernet. So recently, I finally got it working, and even using strictly F/LOSS tools, which I was pretty happy about! I will mention that I am using Mopidy as source, piping that in to snapserver (snapcast), which synchronize the audio to various devices across the network (each running snapclient) so you have a picture of how it works. Maybe I make separate thread / blog post about that, but here I mention it only as criteria for selecting hardware (as these tools must be supported). I'm sure @tkaiser has something like this already, but for the rest of us ;-) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C34MT32/ This should work, of course you need to power the drive, I've ordered one so I can get a look at those partially hidden headers spots, looks to be a sata power pattern (15 places) May need some solder time to get both headers and (I would guess) the heavy pads are for the various power rails if you want to "spin rust" as I've seen it written. Finding the SATA power socket could prove challenging for the hobbyist, I'll pull up the Molex number for it I stand corrected, my search through the usual channels show …

Hello guys, After seeing a friend bought and tried a Raspberry Pi 5 device, I am very excited about what can be done with such a small single-board computer. So now I'm interested in getting a suitable single-board computer to buy. What SBC is suitable to buy if I want to use virtualization sofware such as VMware ESXi for ARM? Running multiple OS at once, is my mainly use. Getting used to Intel CPU & Windows and now I want to switch to ARM and Linux environment. Thanks in advanced.

Hi Scrolling through the forum I realized how old this SBC is that I purchased but I had no choice since basically all other options are out of stock in my country with lead-times past this year... I am looking for someone that can assist me. I replaced a failed Raspberry Pi 4 with this Banana Pi bpi-m4 board thinking that it would perform and work as a like-for-like replacement. Unfortunately, it is not the case but I am stuck with it. Is there anyone that can assist me to build a 64bit Armbian image? Hi all, First let me thank you for your work. Armbian is fantastic. Thank you. I’m surprised that nobody has asked this question or at least I’m unable to find it on the forum / in docs. My understanding is: 1. Debian x86 Linux kernel is same on all devices since regardless if it is laptop or server, it has BIOS or UEFI that will ”tell” the kernel what hardware, what buses, what addresses, etc. it has… 2. ARM boards don’t have BIOS and therefore Linux Kernel is different for every board. I checked that on my Orange Pi Zero by default the /etc/apt/source.list and /etc/apt/source.list.d/ are default Debian repos and one…

I must admit I don't really know what to do with my sbc's. After getting them set up there is nothing more I could think of to use them for. I guess part of the fun is in getting them set up, and to run them cool during native kernel builds. Just so it's not a complete waste of money, I spent more (though not a lot) to add dual screens to some of them. Any ideas what else I could use them for? I already have music players (a lot of them, DACs), NAS, home control, security camera, what else do you use them for? I haven't left any of them outside in the sun yet to try out solar power. So, I added dual screens to these ones (left to right, counter clockwise)…

Hi everyone, I'm building a micro server based on orange pi prime and armbian, after reading a lot about sd card wear out, I started thinking how could I improve that in my project. For my project it is ok, if data would be physically written to card, every 1 minute instead of on every commit. Now, what I can't find: is there a way to generally configure such memory buffering for a filesystem, so that I don't have to configure this for a database engine?

If you want to experiment, drop in a distro-boot capable u-boot for your device in the firmware area and you should be good enough to go. I have never tested my image on a different device so YMMV.

If I have an SBC and I shut it down (e.g. using "shutdown now") then it enters an inactive state. However, I haven't done anything with the power supply - the board is still powered. So what changes in the state of the board as a result of cycling the power? If nothing changed then it would continue in the same inactive state as before? But instead, it boots up when power is restored. I'm guessing the answer varies by board. On the Raspberry Pi it seems that on doing a shutdown the shutdown process writes a volatile magic number that can be read by the …
