Hello Armbian community, Here is a project of adjusting the Kobol Helios4 case for a Raspberry Pi 3B and either 2.5" or 3.5" HDD, as well as a 92mm FAN and a USB hub. This is my first SketchUp project (I've used the 2016 trial version). The Raspberry Pi will be screwed in the bottom and powered through the micro usb. That's why I've left more room on that side. We can fit either 4x2.5" or 3x3.5" at any "deep" level. I've left room for a USB hub because I want to reuse my existing spare one. We can maybe come with a better idea, more universal (eg. dual output 12v and 5v of at least 90w, or a Molex fanless PSU unit. The latter would b…

Hi there, I'm currently struggling to get the Cedrus VPU up and running. I have downloaded the specific version from bootlin and got the kernel up and running, however the V3s isn't supported by the Sunxi SRAM driver. This driver is important to get the VPU going. I tried altering the devicetree of the V3s to match a SoC that is somehow similiar, but it clearly failed for obvious reasons. I get this error message: [ 1.035259] cedrus 1c0e000.video-codec: Failed to claim SRAM [ 1.040990] cedrus 1c0e000.video-codec: Failed to probe hardware [ 2.478247] cedrus 1c0e000.video-codec: Failed to claim SRAM [ 2.484047] cedrus 1c0e…

This was a bit of a buzz back in late Dec 2018, and things got kind of quiet after that... Rumour was that the SoC was the SocioNext SC2A11, which is a Japanese chipset (and from experience, Japanese chip vendors are very particular about who they work with)...

It seems like manufacturers should want to sell as many chips as possible, and it seems like they could sell more chips if they released the documentation to allow anyone to implement their product. But many devices or peripherals (i.e., ARM Mali, Allwinner CedarX, etc.) are undocumented and need to be reverse engineered. I noticed this when when I was looking at the RK3399 data sheet and saw all of the features this chip has. It's a shame that of all those features, the only ones that will be used on most SBCs are the ARM cores and the simple I/O peripherals (SPI, I2C, GPIO). I don't have the skills yet to write an OS driver, but I know how to write bare-metal embedded d…

I wonder if somebody can help me make a good choice. I'm sorry if I'm a bit rambling but I spent a good part of the weekend looking at different SBCs. I've played around with the early Rasperry Pi, then later on I got a Cubietruck (which still faithfully does network stuff at home) and a Cubox. (Which I wasn't that happy with because I needed a little bit more omph, it was *mostly* fine though) What I'm looking for is an ARM based setup I can do some browsing with, run some lightweight X11 (jwm window manager and some very light programs mostly dependent on X-libraries) and watch videos up to 720p. The screens' resolution would be 1280x1024. It'd b…

Greetings, I have scoured every source I could find, but could only find images that hinted at it. I need 1) to know the pinout of the 4-pin debug usart port on the NanoPC T4, and possibly 2) to find a good alternative to PuTTY that can handle the high(?) bit-rate I see in dmesg output (under Armbian debian Stretch). I've tried those implied by the images, and though my Windows 7 PC sees a new COM port (and the driver installed clean) for my new DTECH USB to TTL Serial 3.3V Adapter Cable (TX RX Signal with 4 Pin 0.1 inch Pitch Female Socket PL2303 Prolific Chip for Windows 10 8 7 XP Vista (6ft, Black)), I'm unable to access it v…

So, finally today I am getting around to pulling trigger on (2x) ODROID-XU4, I go to AmeriDroid (US supplier), put 2 of them in cart and go off looking for emmc modules, only to come across: https://ameridroid.com/collections/storage-emmc-and-microsd/products/emmc-5-1-module-blank Has anyone seen / tested these? My internet search says no, but I thought I would ask anyway. If not, I guess it's my turn now to be the guinea pig. I think I will maybe get one of these and one "regular" emmc...

Can you people explain to me how you advertise on almost every page 48+TB storage fully knowing there is a 16TB limitation on all filesystems thanks to limitations on 32bit? I will not use whatever MERGEFS is. How exactly do you achieve 48TB storage as I currently have 4x6TB disks that I CANNOT USE. If you can't I want a refund.

Recently, a new SBC, the Rock Pi S by Radxa, was launched. Here's it's wiki page: https://wiki.radxa.com/RockpiS It's a 4 core A35 design. I'm debating getting one, but I can't find any information anywhere as to whether or not it's supported on Linux, or Armbian. Of course, if it's not listed in the download section it's not supported, but there's a difference between, "I need to add 100 lines of code and it will work." to "Geez, I need to redesign most of the Linux kernel after pulling my hair out." I did search the sunxi wiki and the local armbian wiki without success. Anyone know anything? Thanks!

spent most of today trying to get a USB-wifi adapter working on my OrangePiOne... connman_ctl wpa_supplicant (with and without wpa_cli), iw... you name it, I've probably tried it. Then, when restarting for the umpteenth time, in a rare moment of diminished stupidity, I actually read the "message of the (every) day" which is shown when you login successfully, It mentioned 'armbian-config' ... which i decided to give a try... Five minutes later I had working wifi - which works again after a restart without further configuration! So, a note to myself: be sure to RTFM (= Read the Fabulous Message of the day)! At least this was on my home pr…

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum so my topic might be misplaced/already answered. I have armbian running on BananaPiPro and I am completely satisfied but this build is not supported anymore. Hi, my rpi 4 with 4GB ram is now on my desk but I cannot find armbian for it: looking at github build repo I do not see any file regarding raspberry pi in general. So... is anyone interested to help me to work on it? Is there an armbian interest in having a Raspberry PI build? Why historically I cannot see any sign of interested in those boards? Please... I know of all of their HW limitations... but they sell millions of boards each year... it is clear that some million people out there find them useful so we (as community) should to deliver an armbian build for this SBC. Any thought? Any starting point? *Ciao …

I tryed to install all available server-OS. At the moment I run BIONIC. I looked in the LMS logs but found noothing. As I am new too this kind of topics I do not know how to find the issue. Hello, I created with Armbian config a Wlan hotspot. I want to make a kan bridge because it is isolated. What's on Ubuntu Bionic the best way? With the network managers or manual way. Looks like the network management has changed, in the last years and I am confused of all the available instructions. And when I am connected to the AP from win 10 notebook I can get a ssh connection to the host. I can connect to an other client at this ap and then I connect over this client to the host. I have no idea why. How could I solve this? Gr…

Its a just a proposal. It would be nice to have a anonymous telemetry result that summarize boards and armbian popularity (distro, kernel, CPU from /proc/cpuinfo and memory size, board name if available) Another board's popularity source that is also interesting is a poll about boards in use (board name, development tools) Please star/mark this post to make it important for @Igor

I started with the Armbian Buster download, which I wrote to SD card then transferred to emmc. This was easy and completely problem free. Hey all, wasn't sure where to post this so I figured here is fine. I was wonderng: Is there a repository of older armbian releases? Specifically: Tinkerboard S Armbian Bionic 4.19.y Desktop Kernel. For the past couple months I've been developing on my ASUS Tinkerboard S running the Armbian Bionic 4.19.y Desktop release. However, sometime recently, the updated 4.4.y release came out for Armbian Bionic Desktop. I tried it, and it turns out one of the updates actually break a decent part of my system I had working (partly due to the lack nodm on the system now, which was warned). I'll update my system eventually, but it's not really worth it for the …

Hi Guys, Most of us have powerfull (compared to Pi's) unused phones on the shelfs just because we got a new one or for other reasons. I have (a not so old) samsung S7 edge with broken screen siting on my shelf that I would love to use as server for my home automation projects. There are many options to keep android and run some Linux Distributions in chroot but it is still somehow limited. Since most of phone use ARM architecture I was wondering if there is already anything or interest in creating Armbian port for unused phones. My S7 edge runs a samsung exynos arm SOC. Thanks, Diogo

I've had a cheap JMB321 port multiplier on my EspressoBIN for more than a year. I've used it with a BTRFS RAID0 configuration on two 1TB harddisks. This worked fine so far. Balanced fine). Next partition was almost unused, added it and balanced it and ... segmentation fault. This is not the fault of BTRFS! No commands were available, I had no rootfs anymore. I'd really like to build a relationship with Armbian and Linaro... even a small one. Although most of the SBC manufactures we support aren't a member of Linaro... Armbian is a huge win for Arm as a whole, and impacts influencers who can choose to use ARM products in enterprise settings etc.

Hi, I wonder if anyone has experience using an sbc (or tv box) for remote controlling a server. I think the necessary pieces are there on many boards (many have camera inputs which could perhaps be used for video, it looks like some even have an hdmi in). I found this [1] project, but it uses some extra hardware I'd like to avoid. https://github.com/Fmstrat/diy-ipmi Has anyone done anything similar? Note I'm mostly looking into this to gain knowledge, not to put this in production in a real world situation.

Hey guys, I am thinking to build a wireless router from a single board computer, so my requirement is that the chosen board to support Linux to have at least one Gigabit port and also to have a PCIe port to connect an external WiFi card and antennas and eventually attach one or more SSDs. The advantages of the EspressoBin are: it has built-in networking switch with one dedicated WAN and two LAN interfaces all 1Gbps dedicated SATA interface miniPCIe slot for wireless cards stable Armbian support …

Hello dear experts at Armbian well the mysql_connect_error-script is a great help: It returns a string description of the last connect error ( see more infos here: https://www.php.net/manual/en/mysqli.connect-error.php ). Hi, I have a OpenVPN server running on the broadband router installed at my parents house. My router at home connects to this and I mirror my complete NAS over this connection. My brother also has a laptop on which he uses VPN occasionally to copy important stuff there. Since the router has only a small dual core MIPS CPU, VPN speeds are limited to about 18Mbit/s. The connection at my parents home is 100/50Mbit/s and mine at home 250/80Mbit/s, so it could work faster. Also, the VPN takes up all the CPU so for example DNS resolution is slow if the VPN is saturated. For this reason, I'd like to buy a inexpensive small device tha…

I’ve tried with Jessie: Linux bpi-iot-ros-ai 3.4.39-BPI-M3-Kernel PRETTY_NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie)" NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux" VERSION_ID="8" VERSION="8 (jessie)" ID=raspbian ID_LIKE=debian then I’ve tried with armbian: Linux bananapim3 4.19.38-sunxi PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch)" NAME="Debian GNU/Linux" VERSION_ID="9" VERSION="9 (stretch)" ID=debian No luck. The project works perfectly fine with Raspberry Pi Zero: Linux raspberrypi 4.19.42+ PRETTY_NAME="Raspbian GNU/Linux 9 (stret…

Hello everybody, I am new to this forum, and stumbled upon Armbian while looking for OS options for the NanoPi M4 board. Great work! The board is running well now, but I do have a few questions: Armbian is WIP, but as NicoD says it's actually very stable. Any idea when it's going to "supported" officially? I did have an issue with the 4.4 kernel, which I worked around. How is your experience with more recent kernels, is it advisable to upgrade? Or will the official image be upgraded from the LibreElec kernel? (Compiling a kernel still seems a little bit daunting to me, although I did it on x86 chips years ago). What timeframe i…

I have used banana pro for several years now as samba server for a sata drive, and pihole/openvpn server. My operating system Is: ARMBIAN 5.87.190520 nightly Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 5.1.3-sunxi . I have tried several stable distributions before the may 5, 2019 nightly build, but all have the same issues. 1) Every few days I will loose network connectivity. The board is on, I can see that, but I can not ssh into it. Even the hdmi console will not respond. Apparently, the system just hangs somewhere. 2) There are times when network is fine, I can ssh, but openvpn server just stops responding. Restarting openvpn server does not d…

Hi, is there a way to automate how the nand-sata-install works - for example, if my image is on an SD card and I want to flash my emmc card on boot - can that be automated somehow? I tried looking at the documentation, but no luck. Thank you!

Hi there, can someone comment on usually how long it takes to build an image? I know there are several factors at play - but what are some times people have gotten in making an SD card image with a clean build. Just trying to set expectations - I am on a quad core 1.5GZ machine with 8 gigs of ram on SSD. Thanks

Hi, from armbian-config I can install several programs, e.g. softether VPN Server. The version installed is rather old now (nevertheless it is still working). Is there an update for the armbian-config installable software or do I have to update it myself (in case of softether: download & compile, not via apt-get)? Thanks for any help! Steve

Just thought I would introduce myself and start on my 5 approved posts requirements. ETAPrime is the reason I found out about this project and it's something I'd like to help out with when/where I can. I currently have a few Raspberry Pi 3 B and 3 B+. I also have two Libre ROC-RK3399-PC that I'm looking forward to future support on with the community. I also enjoy gaming and 3D printing as my other hobbies. Ask me anything? I guess?

Folks, has anyone tried using one of those 5V DIN rail-mounted PSUs (eg Mean Well HDR-XX series) for powering the boards and HDDs? My "server" stack has grown to 10+ boards (many thanks to this forum!) and I am thinking of getting a couple of powerful industry-grade 5V units, but not sure if they provide computer-grade output, especially 12V for HDDs. Any thoughts?

Greetings everyone, A couple years ago, I did my research and followed the recommendation here and on linux-sunxi to purchase a Cubietruck and have had excellent results. I use my small low power GNU/Linux sever for all manner of things including self hosted "cloud" (contact, calendar, file synchronization), XMPP messaging server, media server, etc... It has been such a success in fact that we are putting more and more of our valuable personal files on there like pictures, etc. and that has me thinking more and more about reliability, backup, etc... I became very interested in ZFS but my understanding is that it requires 64-bit, but th…

These days i did install on some devices debian buster (via armbian-build-system generated). On the Orange Pi One this did work also fine with the cpu-temperature (showing via armbianmonitor -m) On a Orange Pi PC2 and a NanoPi K1 Plus this doesnt work. First I did think this is a problem of the dev-image with debian buster where /sys/devices/virtual/thermal/thermal_zone0/temp doesnt show an output via cat or more - but its filesize does show a 4096 bytes size (also on a working device - and also rights 444 = rrr for the file): -r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 May 20 10:47 temp BUT NOW after a apt update & apt upgrade I also got thi…

I am currently trying to set up the PICAN GPS+ACC Rev B on my NanoPi M4 in order to receive CAN connections. I have previously set this up on a Raspberry Pi with no issues, but because the NanoPi does not have /boot/config.txt and /boot/cmdline.txt I am at a loss at how to set up the module. Any information as to how I can go about using the module on the NanoPi would be much appreciated. The guide I used to set up the module on the Raspberry Pi is here http://skpang.co.uk/catalog/images/raspberrypi/pican/PICANGPSACC_V1.pdf Thanks

hello dear experts Where would you recommend me to store the Keepass-file? Well - for most of the use-cases usually i have all my personal documents in my cloud account. The pro: i can access it from everywhere in the world. With any device. But besides that i am not so sure if this is safe. Especially if it comes to such things like keepass: Some friends mentioned that it is not so safe: Question; would it be safe to use the cloud for the keepass-file? Can i secure it even further, by adding another (extra) layer of security by encrypting the file. the generalized question is this: How safe is it to store the keepass-file in the (wrong pla…

While installing Pihole the Installation does break when trying to start lighttpd. So the question is "why does disconnecting and reconnecting power cause a shutdown SBC to boot?" If I have an SBC and I shut it down (e.g. using "shutdown now") then it enters an inactive state. However, I haven't done anything with the power supply - the board is still powered. So what changes in the state of the board as a result of cycling the power? If nothing changed then it would continue in the same inactive state as before? But instead, it boots up when power is restored. I'm guessing the answer varies by board. On the Raspberry Pi it seems that on doing a shutdown the shutdown process writes a volatile magic number that can be read by the …

I am looking to replace 3 OrangePi boards with a H3 CPU with one board. Every board has a RTL-SDR USB stick attached to it, and the software tends to load up the CPU a lot on at least one core, in some cases the total load is high on 2 cores. To make it all easier / simpler I would like to replace the 3 with one board with enough processing power, but nothing extreme. The goal is that it will be in an enclosure up the antenna mast, POE fed, so not easily accessible! I even looked at the Atomic Pi, but I am not so sure about processing power in that unit.. (I might be wrong though!) Browsing the options online, I saw the NanoPi M4 which looks like a good candid…

Hi all! I'm happily using Armbian on Cubieboard2 working as home server (samba, 4(!) LXC containers with Deluge, tor, owncloud and some other small apps) + VPN client. Pretty happy with it, especially for internal SATA. Recently found that Cubietech releases Cubieboard6 on S-500 CPU with same form-factor and SATA. That means, that all casing/housing can stay intact. LXC containers also can be migrated since CPU is still ARMv7. But at the same time found somewhere on this forum, that board is not really good quality... Cannot argue or agree with this since I don't have a board and it looks costly. So my question - what is advis…

I've successfully got rid of windows & android from eMMC and installed Ubuntu Server x64 So I decided get rid of some components as touchscreen, speakers, cameras, battery and use it as SBC headless server. HI , there I have a system on emmc protected by overlayroot. Sensitive data are written to sd card. Everything works as expected. The question is: Is there a way to temporarily access the root filesystem from python script ? Of course, I can temporarily deactivate protection by ‘overlayroot-chroot’ command from terminal and make changes, but that's not what I mean. I have a web server application written in a flask framework. On one of its pages, users can set network parameters, e.g. IP, mask, dns . Is it possible at all, eg when the user accepts changes to disable protection, save changes to root filesystem and immediately enable protection ?

Hello there, I have been doing research in regards to finding software or a script that has the ability to monitor the microphone noise and compare it to a wav file I have previously recorded. Just a tip for something that has helped me from getting a heart-attack over the many years of online discourse.... Back in the day (ugh-really?) there were only TWO rules for participation in the store-and-forward Fidonet system: 1) Thou shalt not excessively annoy others. 2) Thou shalt not be too easily annoyed. Breaking *either* rule, got you kicked out. Strangely enough, rule #2 was broken more often than #1. And it helps you grow a skin, no matter what is said. Most importantly, it keeps you hacking, and not getting a heart-attack. For Devs, maybe the OpenBSD philosophy can cut through some of the angst: …

Hi, I am looking for a device, which has the following hardware: - 2x wifi adapter - 2x ethernet adapter - CSI connector for camera - 2x USB port or 1x USB and 1x USB-C port I know it would be very hard to find such a device, but an option would be to use one USB port and WiFi dongle instead second build-in WiFi and another USB to connect ethernet dogle into it. And for USB-C I can use use an USB-C-to-USB adapter... So at least I would like to find a device with: - 1x wifi adapter - 1x ethernet adapter - CSI connector for camera - 2x or 3x USB port Any ideas?

I would like to announce that I am getting started on an armbian-derived project, Armbian-NG. This is not a fork of Armbian, nor a rewrite, it's a derived project that piggyback's on the excellent work by Igor and the entire armbian development team. I think of Armbian-NG as armbian's little clumsy brother, who is just learning to walk but has great potential. In as few words as possible, Armbian-NG will be a Python (set of) script(s) that runs natively on Aarch64 (64-bit ARM) hardware (running Ubuntu 18.04 or later) to build Armbian images. More details can be found here: https://github.com/AndrewBCN/Armbian-NG As with armbian, anybody is welcome to con…

I have an OrangePi Prime with 2 GB RAM. I'm running a server-like node.js app that does constant writes to .json files and text log files. Let's call it "database storage". The app is not otherwise RAM intensive, can run fine on 512 MB boards. I'm thinking of putting all my RAM to use and move the database storage to a RAM disk made with Zram. Do you see any potential problems and interference with the way Zram is configured for this board?
