I have a NanoPi Neo that's been up about 4 months and I am using it for DHCP and DNS caching (using dnsmasq). This has been working fine over SSH until after the update. Previously, I could log in, edit the dnsmasq settings, and restart the service without issue. Now, when I attempt to restart a service (not just dnsmasq, I tested a couple others), it hangs and looks like it's waiting for a password entry on the TTY. (I'm logged in over SSH and I do not have a TTY connected). ... in first SSH session, this just hangs forever until I ctrl-C: root@nanopineo:/etc# systemctl restart dnsmasq ... in second SSH session, PS shows: root 1825 783 0…

I downloaded Ubuntu server from here https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-plus-2e/ and then burned it using Etcher to my SD card. I never loaded/installed any OS on my Orange Pi Plus2E before. Without SD card it permanently shows only Allwinner H3 logo on screen, so it seems no OS installed there. Red led is permanently on (not blinking) and nothing elase is happen. After I insert the SD card with the burned image I immediately get green LED on (not blinking), red LED is off. The monitor screen is permanently black and nothing else happens. When I connected USB/UART converter I saw the following in the logs: U-Boot SPL 2017.05-armbian (Jun 13 …

Hi. Kernel version : 4.11.7-sun8i My trouble is that clk is weird in using spidev. This is a oscilograph when i send a command with spi. First line is CLK and second line is CS0. My slave chip can not receive commands. and I think it due to this weird CLK. CS seems affect CLK. I just want to use spi with CS keeping active-low. But, following code setting mode of spi occured an error. "invalid argument exception" mode = SPI_MODE_1 | SPI_NO_CS; if (ioctl(file,SPI_IOC_WR_MODE32,&mode)<0){ perror("can't set spi mode"); return; } this work properly. mode = SPI_MODE_1; if …

Hello. Is there a way of resetting the USB subsystem in Armbian for Orange Pi Zero? I don't want to unplug and plug a USB device or reboot the system just to reset the plugged USB devices. The above is doable on a PC running Ubuntu with something like this: $: cd /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ehci_hcd $: ls 0000:00:14.0 bind module new_id remove_id uevent unbind $: echo -n "0000:00:14.0" > unbind $: echo -n "0000:00:14.0" > bind Wondering if something similar (I don't really care if the solution is not similar) is doable on Armbian for OPIZ. Cheers!

Hey everyone! I just got myself hooked up with an Orange Pi PC+ and I was wondering is it possible to send files over the usb-ttl dongle just like in Windows Explorer, from my pc onto the eMMC or the external sd card, which is in the slot. I am using TeraTerm as console. It always boots up in boot0 mode. I have attached a piece of the log, that I've managed so far. Regards. putty.log EDIT: In teraterm there is an SSH SCP Send-Receive window, with path choises, but it doesn't seem to work. Couldn't transfer any file from the pc to the sdcard. Any thought, ideas?! Without using card reader at the moment. …

AFAIK, from last year, there are some new driver for AXP209/202 PMU for mainline kernel. One of the main new features that i really like is custom sampling frequency compared to the original driver for linux kernel 3.4 (i just remember the interval are 2 seconds). I want to use AXP209 PMU for power/energy profiling and consumption study of some SBC such as Banana Pi/Pro and some other Allwinner based SBC as comparison. The question is How i want to know current sampling frequency from PMU and how to change the frequency? (25, 50, 100 or 200Hz) What is the reasonable/best practice to write the captured power consumption value (with timestamp) into some logf…

I'm trying to get a csi cam from aliexpress to work on my orange pi one running Armbian_5.10_Orangepih3_Debian_jessie_3.4.112. I've modified the fex and tried modding the gc2035 kernel driver, and tried several different applications. Everything has failed so far. Are there any resources that describe what I need to do to get it to work? All hardware is new (with a 3a power supply too). Armbian seems to be the best distro to use, and I think I'm running the latest armbian version which includes many fixes. I've also updated and upgraded the os once installed to include anything fixed upstream. This is the aliexpress cam I got for the orange pi one: http://bit.ly…

Hi, I've read a previous topic about it but it was a bit inconclusive. My question is simple: can the OTG port be turned on on the legacy kernel? Is it just a matter of setting up the right bits in the script.bin/fex file? Or is it missing some other stuff? Currently I can use that port on Bananian. Since this board only has 2 USB ports, it's nice to be able to use the OTG port to connect a keyboard, since the other 2 ports have HDDs connected. Thanks and good work!!

I tried to boot my brand new OrangePi PC Plus without SD card, and it boots to some Chinese OS. However, if I boot it with Armbian, it boots to Armbian. So my question is, is there some kind of "BIOS" or similar firmware preloaded on these devices? And if yes - is it possible to remove it with something else?

Hi all. I have been doing some interesting reading here. Thank you that you started this project. I saw it already in 2014 I think when I bought my Pcduino 3 Version A but I wasn't sure back there if this project was for real. The reason why I bought Pcduino3 in the first place was an idea of a media client/server so I could hook it up to my TV and watch youtube and or Netflix and maybe have a little ftpserver on it so I can transfer my favorite tv shows to it (I currently live in germany but I do not speak/understand it fluently and all tv channels here and in german ) and watch them comfortably on the sofa (my back hurts if I sit too long by PC), and a smal…

Hi guys, I have just completed to build my "development workspace" including OpenCV, Qt5 and working OV5640. I've noticed that people reach about 30 fps of the frame rate using VGA/QVGA resolution. Datasheet says about 120 FPS for QVGA and 90FPS for VGA. I was working with this camera chip on STM32Fx and I got much better results than OPI0+ Is it weird, it is? I am wondering what is a limitation to get better performance and quality on this camera. I plan to write drivers myself, however I want to be sure it is only driver limitation. Any advice will be appreciated.

Just noticed some ugly detail: 1.) the switch is active during boot, and it defaults to all ports on one VLAN. 2.) My laptop is quite agressive when it comes to DHCP, it's connected to one of the local ports of the BPI-R, so it detects immediatly that the ethernet connection goes down and up. 3.) So I end up with the cable modems external IP address on my laptop, and a BPI-R that is unreachable, ... Any idea how to turn off the network switch in the boot loader? TiA, Andreas

Platform oPi Plus 2E with Armbian 5.31 (Legacy). I have configured a WiFi adaptor, and it works fine in connecting to an existing hotspot. When I attempt to use network manager applet (or nm-connection-editor/nmtui from a root prompt) to create an Ad-hoc network I am getting permissions errors. For NM TUI it is 'Unable to save connection: Insufficient privileges.', and similar for the other methods. Can anyone give me some pointers on how to diagnose and/or fix this? From the research I have done the nm-applet error is likely a simple config error (not set up to run as root for this function), but the other avenues failures seem odd.

Hi, I found a similar thread about space problem on /boot when upgrading the kernel, but it was with debian jessie, not Ubuntu, and the proposed "trick" doesn't seem to work anymore: This is what I get: Actually, I am facing this problem since I set up my system a year ago, but didn't take the time to solve it. But now, I would like to finish the aimed set up of the device (home server) and would like to get this out of the way. Thanks for any suggestion.

Hello all, just joined the forum since this is my first time using Armbian. So I got a NanoPi M1 and the dvp cam500b. From what I understand this camera uses the omnivision ov5640. I am having trouble getting this thing recognized in armbian. I get /dev/video0 to be listed by adding it to /etc/modules, but if I go to access it with any software it reports back 'no such device' or to the similar effect (this includes mjpg-streamer, fswebcam, ffmpeg). Researching around I find many forum posts of people saying one must modify the 'fex' file... to which I found out this is the decompiled version of the /boot/script.bin file using the sunxi-tools/bin2fex. Thing is, wh…

Hello there. I'm owner of nano pi m1 board. I want use hid usb gadget on this board, but no success. First I use prebuild image from download section. I fugured out, that the image contains android_usb gadget and it's works (i didn't go deep, but i see, that after some manipulations with files my computer see nano pi as mass storage). Ok, this shows that nanopi board can be used as device. Go next. I need to load g_hid module, but there is no such module in the default image. Ok, time to compile custom kernel (with Igor's script this is easy). I included hid usb gadget via menu. Booting and "modprobe g_hid". Failed. "No such module" turns into "No such device". Hm...…

Hi, yesterday I used the latest mainline built (https://dl.armbian.com/lime2/Debian_jessie_next.7z) on Olimex Lime2-emmc 4 GB but i can not access the eMMC. Hi, I am running the latest Armbian stable headless build with legacy kernel for a few weeks now without issue (tvheadend, cups, sane, shairplay-sync, pi-hole). Hi, I am running Armbian Jessie (4.11.6-sunxi) on Banana Pi M1. For reading and writing SD cards I use linux dd cmd on another box. I do not have a Windows system. My question is this: My SD card is a 16Gb device. With gparted I can reduce the size of the system to a partition that would easily fit on a 4Gb device. But when writing the .img file dd will still see and write an image of 16 Gb There must be a way to make an image that can be written to and booted from a smaller device to save resources on the backup disk. Can anyone point me in the right direction ?

Hello,I have a bananapi m2+ I would like to install kodi version 17 to the standard repositories is the only version of 15 which doesn't suit me. tell me how to install the 17 version? I'm new to Linux and don't understand much,if there is a possibility lay out the user manual which would have helped with the installation. I want to install on server version armbian and that would be after the launch of the banana pi automatically instead of a desktop was loaded kodi interface, so it is possible to do?

[EDIT: The solution to this was realizing I'd been handed Banana Pi's (which have no WiFi), not Banana Pro's (which do have WiFi). I wasted a few days on this.] Hey guys, I'm sure you're sick of hearing this, but I have no WiFi with latest Banana Pi Pro image. No errors in dmesg, lsmod shows "brcmfmac" is present, but no device in iwconfig.

I am failing creating a bootable SDcard. I download latest image and flash it using etcher. Everything goes smoothly. But when the SD is inserted in the device and the device is powered on, nothing happens (no video output, no LEDs blinking, no network LEDs blinking). I am facing this issue with bananapi M1 (and pine64, but I need to get bananapi working only). This is not SDcard issue, since other distros are running smoothly. This is not PSU issue, since other distros are running smoothly. I was testing Debian Jessie Next 4.9 and 4.11.

I am new to OPi+2E & Armbian combo. When booted up, all outgoing traffic is fine (though speed is very slow) but no incoming traffic gets successful, e.g. SSH and Ping. I tried DHCP and Static IPs. I believe there is no firewall running. I connected to WiFi through armbian-config and WiFi also connected but no incoming on either interface. If I disconnect LAN cable while WiFi is still connected, incoming traffic works on WiFi. As soon as I connect LAN cable again, incoming stops working on both interfaces. Same behaviour on Raspbian and Armbian. Is there some firmware I need to update? Help will be appreciated.

The sytem acted a bit wierd, so I rebooted it. Since the moment, the server did not launch, rebooting itself again and again. I edited boot script to get more informations, and this is the moment, where the sytem gets stucked before it reboots (I have panic set to 180, so this screen is visible for around 3 mins). Banana pi M1 armbian 5.14 installed on SDcard and HDD This is not PSU error, since other distros are running smoothly. This is not SDcard error, since I dded this SDcard to another and tested it.

So recently I got a 5 inch HDMI display with touch in the mail. They got drivers for the raspberry pi, and i got it working on the raspberry pi without a problem. Now I was wondering if would work on my banana pi running armbian legacy kernel. I have tried installing and following the original instructions, but i can't get the touch controller to work, it will display on the screen, but touch is not working. The resolution also seems a little bit off. Allthough i tried setting it to 800x480. I know there are other post around this topic, but most of them didn't made it any more clear to me what i could possibly do. And some that did still didn't work. So ye…

Hi Martin and others I started a new Thread because have problems using some third party interfaces with OrangePI running Armbian. Well.. In my project I need to communicate with 5 sensors which have UART output so I decided to buy a circuit (uart2spi) which work well if connected to Arduino. The Circuit description is available here: http://www.rowlandtechnology.com/projects/2015/09/25/spi-to-4-x-uart-bridge-multiuart-project/ First step: This is how I have connected the circuit to GPIO bus on my OrangePi pc.. Hello guys, I've been trying for the past month to get USB OTG and I2C to work on a NanoPI NEO AIR running Armbian, without any success. For OTG what I've tried was adding the following to "sun8i-h3-nanopi-neo-air.dts": &usb_otg { dr_mode = "otg"; status = "okay"; }; I have also enabled OTG and I2C in the kernel config menu, but for I2C I couldn't find what to put inside the DTS file. Can someone give me pointers on how to solve this, please? Yes, I am a very inexperienced developer when it comes to embedded systems and have very poor understanding of how to properly configure a device tree source file. Any help wo…

Env is ARMBIAN 5.31 stable Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i When I run Kismet on this system (which creates a new interface in Monitor mode - wlan0mon), the original WiFi interface loses any connections, and will no longer function properly. Is this a expected behavior? Is there any way to get both monitor and normal mode to co-exist? I've looked around and don't see any obvious driver updates that would address this. Any suggestions (beyond adding a second WiFi adapter)?

I'm trying to stream audio from my windows pc to a orange pi running `ARMBIAN 5.30 stable Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i`, in the verbose output in the pc and in the orange pi shows that the connection has been stablished but it gets refused right after with no "explanation". I'm following intructions from this thread, it shows how to add the tcp protocol to pulseaudio in the orange pi and on the windows machine the audio is captured with linco and it streams with plink (putty command line interface). Why the connection would be refusing to stay connected? PS: in the installation process `/etc/default/pulseaudio` didn't exist after pulseaudio installation, but as i…

I need to attach some devices via spi and i2c to an orange pi zero but would like to keep it in its original case. Just soldering a few wires to the gpio pins and drilling a hole in the case isn't really an option. I am looking for a nice and clean way. Browsing through AliExpress looking for connectors has not revealed any suitable options so far. I already thought about adding an 2.54mm 2x26 Pin Male Double Row Right Angle Pin Header and cut a suitable hole to the case but I guess it would protrude too much. Which connector do you recommend? It should have at least 4 contacts. Has anyone modified the case and added some small connectors? Photos? Lookin…

Hello, I'm new to armbian, and I have a few questions. The image on the downloads page uses the legacy kernel (default branch), I used the desktop version of armbian 5.30. But is it possible to upgrade the kernel to the mainline version (4.11)? If so how? and are there any disadvantages? For example will hardware acceleration still be possible using mpv and so on? If it is better to stay on the legacy kernel, then I let everything as is.

Using the Ubuntu Armbian image for pcDuino 3 I am unable to get the ethernet device eth1 to work. Wireless works fine, but trying to get an IP address for eth1 fails consistently. I have read various indications that this may be an issue with GMAC TX delays or similar, but as a newbie to pcDuino and embedded Linux I do not know how to alter or adjust this, or if this is even the problem. Has anybody else experienced this with the pcDuino3 and is there a solution? As a long time UNIX developer I am reasonably confident this is not merely a UNIX configuration issue, as I have configured the pcDuino 3 Ubuntu identically to my other reference Ubuntu servers which work fine. Hi, Since recent I have an issue that my Orangepi doesn't start anymore. My microSD is fine (did a full diskcheck using badblocks on ubuntu), en I can access all the files without issues. However, it doesn't want to boot. Every time I try to boot it (Orangepi pc), it gives the first black screen until starting kernel, and then gets stuck on the blinking underscore. Hi I need to execute some command when system is going down for halt/poweroff. I need to know this inside my script /etc/init.d/myScript which is called when system is going down. I used to do it by checking $runlevel variable and if it is set to 0, then system was going down for halt, it was working for instance in Raspbian a few years ago. However, in my Linux cubieboard2 4.9.12-sunxi Armbian this variable is not set, and when I execute "runlevel" command inside "STOP" case in myScript it says it is in N 5 runlevel which is not true because I have executed poweroff All tips are welcome Best Regards Marek

Hey everybody. I'm quite new to allwinner, my first experience was with the A13 (sun4i) from olimex. I wrote a kernel driver for the sunxi kernel, which uses the spi and some GPIO. It talks to an SPI RF chip and works just fine. I want to port my kernel driver for the Orange Pi Zero, but have some issues. My main question is: how do i access the fex file, how do i manipulate the gpio and spi ? In the sun4i there are helper functions in the arch/arm/mach-sun4i/sys_config.c file. #define PIN_DIR(handler,dir) gpio_set_one_pin_io_status(handler, dir, NULL) #define PIN_SET(handler,val) gpio_write_one_pin_value(handler, val, NULL) #define PIN_GET(handler) gpio_rea…

first off: I'm totally new in the Linux world, but it's really fun to play with *Pis! currently I'm on a OPILite but I have some RasPis lying around and just ordered a nanoPieNEO2. I'm trying to setup a filesystem that supports deduplication, as far as I can tell that's ZFS or BTRFS. After a lot of reading and learning I got BTRFS with bedup running, but bedup is only file-wise deduplication. The solution for block-wise would be duperemove, but I can't find/get/install/build it for armhf. Has somebody tried block-wise deduplication before and can point me in the right direction? I'm running armbian 5.31 on 4.11.5

Hello. I have my cubietruck (cubieboard 3) configured to boot from sd card, and other files stored on hdd (sata). Few weeks ago (~15.06.2017) I updated armbian by "apt-get dist-upgrade". It worked well until I switch power off. Now it can't boot from sd card. If I remove it - boot from nand is ok. Whet sd card installed - no activity on display, just blinkin LAN port. If I boot from nand, I cat mount both SD and HDD and explore filesystem. But I can't find any logs, updated since 17.06 (time then I switch it off). My guess problem is new kernel, from 4.11.4 to 4.11.5. Please help me fix this, I can take files and content from SD and HDD, but I don…

Hi All I'm having some problem with a fresh install of version 5.30 but had the same problem with 5.27 on my Orange Pi Lite. I also can't ping the device after a while. Using the network manager, if I disable and then enable the wifi then everything works for a while. I have checked that the power Managment of the wifi is off. The whole time I can still browse the internet from the device with no problems. Any ideas on where to look …

I have tried a few different suggestions that I have seen online to implement wifi on Orange PC with a wifi dongle. However, none them can work reliably. OrangePi zero works but wifi speed is very slow (about 1-2Mbps). I recently tried using Raspberry Pi with wifi dongles. It is almost plug and play and very reliable. I hope there is a way to do the same on OPi. If anybody know one, please let me know. I will be happy to try it out and report back.

Hello, I have a cubieboard 2 (the one with only one SD slot) and there is a version of Linaro that is bootable in the NAND memory. I created a card with Debian Jessie Server (the last one) and boot it successfully, but when I run nand-sata-install I get a "No targets available. Please check your drives" pop up. I tried downloading the Debian Wheezy and creating a card and on that one I can see the nand memory blocks, but don't have the script to install and the one that came by default only installs to SATA (not to NAND). Anything I may be doing wrong here??

Hi, I've been running armbian (Debian Jessie) on my Cubietruck successfully for a while now, its mainly just an mpd server. It runs as a headless server and I use the optical spdif connection, ethernet (although I used to use the wireless). I have my root partition on a 2.5" hdd. I currently have: linux-image-3.4.106-cubieboard linux-headers-3.4.106-cubieboard linux-firmware-image-3.4.106-cubieboard I've seen the page http://www.armbian.com/kernel/ and added the repository as instructed. I really just want to confirm if you think I'll run into any trouble with spdif and ethernet if I upgrade to mainline kernel. My understanding is that I …

I am new to Armbian and I have been using Jessie on BPI M2 for a couple weeks now but I can't seem to get it to automatically boot into desktop mode when no monitor is connected. It always seems to go right into command line. I have a number of pieces of software that have a GUI and need to run under desktop mode right off the bat that I would like to have at startup. I have been doing a lot of searching and have been wondering if it is a frambuffer issue. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
