  1. I'm working on a project using the nanopim4v2-current image. I noticed an issue with the available HDMI output resolutions. Only a select few resolutions are available, despite the connected screen advertising support for additional ones. I was also unable to output a custom resolution (for example 1920x538) by adding the proper modeline in manually through xrandr. I've been looking into this for a bit and managed to find a partial solution in Miouyouyou's recent pull request "[RFC] RK3288 : Add HDMI resolutions". Adding the patches to my build enabled support for my monitor's native resolution (1920x1200) and allowed me the ability to output custom resol…

  5. I'm having a very weird issue. I've encrypted a 5TB USB drive on my computer with LUKS sudo cryptsetup luksFormat /dev/sda1 And it works great on my computer. But when I plug in into my Helios64 and try to use it: sudo cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda1 secret Enter passphrase for /dev/sda1: No key available with this passphrase. It just refuses. And if I try to encrypt the drive from the Helios64 using cryptsetup it never finishes, the command runs forever. Anyone had similar issues? Any ideas?

  7. Is there a method to boot with BSP kernel (the 4.4 kernel supplied by Rockchip/Radxa) on an existing install (jammy) to compare power usage to mainline kernel (5.15.y current or even 5.19.y rolling)? I tried using the switch kernel support in armbian-config, but the linux-image-legacy-rockchip64 4.4.213-rockchip64 just hung during early boot and had to recover to linux-image-current-rockchip64 5.15.69 . P.S. This is related to my question on the Radxa forums about reducing Rock Pi 4 B+ power usage.

My question to the developer: Is there any probability that the native ethernet (gigabit) connection will be working in the future? I think that's the main advantage of the rock64 board (gigabit ethernet AND usb 3.0). Otherwise many other boards will work as well as NAS as the rock64. Thanks in advance for answers!

Without the drives initialized the system seems like it will run for days, but with the drives initialized (ZFS), I will get the below error after a few hours of uptime (~8-10 hours). 24. Hi everyone ! I'm really happy with my Helios64, running fine with no major issues. BUT This product can obviously be improved with future revisions, while keeping the same base. An explanation would be great in the comments.

  27. /proc/sys/crypto doesn't exist, so anything checking the status of /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled fails terribly. (Specifically trying to bring up a FreeIPA server which includes tomcat-based Dogtag CA, it checks for FIPS during setup, dies). I see there is an rk_crypto kernel module available, so I don't know why /proc/sys/crypto itself is missing. I tried 'modprobe rk_crypto' and it loaded (appears in output of 'lsmod'), but /proc/sys/crypto still doesn't exist.

  31. So I got my Helios64 today, built it with 2 drives, a Adata SSD on the M.2 and 2 Seagates on SATA 1 and 2. But whenever I want to boot it up, the internal blue system LED lights up + System Rail power (UPS installed) with all activity LEDs and HDD error 3 instantly with no delay. There is no Console output and nothing is to be heard spinning up. When building I noticed the cable harness having the same length for connectors 2 and 3 where 3 is too short for zip tie-ing. It worked on an SD card, but when I loaded it on an NVME drive on the build in M.2 slot, it worked with neither the SPI Boot image with armbian-install.sh, nor the SPI image from radxa. When I have SPI loaded, and I have the SD Card installed, it just seems to load from the SD Card. When I remove the SD card, and boot the system. It seems to just stay with the LED with the blue and green elements on. I've waited several minutes without it booting. I was able to get it to successfully boot once, but never again.

Serial number on rk356x is coming from otp memory, so: 1) there are no bindings for `otp` and `cpuinfo` devices in .dts, like here 2) there are no kernel driver to extract data from otp memory, like here I'm ready to contribute, but not sure what's the future plan for those.

Hello everyone, I would like to thank @lurk101 very much for his patience in helping me how to boot Armbian directly to NVMe in my ROCK5B. I could do that with the Official release 22.11 Jammy with Gnome from the website. The PSU I am using is a dumb 5V 3A which I used to power my Raspberry Pi 4. As I could boot the OS directly from NVMe, I asked if he would mind if I shared the information with you. He answered he doesn't, so here we go... However, I was not able to use Ethernet port neither my wifi m.2 adapter, so there is no network connection... If I have more information I…

After booting there was no "/dev/spidevX.X" file. I tried to enable the spidev module (modprobe spidev) and also tried to add it to /etc/rc.local but there was still no spidev device file. Is there a problem with the module? Do I have to enable something else?

Hi all, today I used rsync to copy some music files from an attached USB drive to my NVME M2 SSD drive and noticed the Nanopi was getting very hot. I have it housed in an official metal case with a fan. The fan didn't come on despite the temperature of 80 + , the case was very hot to the touch. I turned it off in the end in case it got damaged. Any suggestions appreciated. The board is running the latest Buster from here.

Hi. I've just bought a Rock Pi 4a board, I plan to use it as home server, running stuff like Owncloud, Postfix/Dovecot, Apache, pihole, OpenHab, Emby server etc. I'm thinking of running Armbian on it, but I have absolutely no experience of this dist (I've been managing Debian/Ubuntu servers for many years though). It's going to run headless. I'm wondering what would be the best way to set up disks from an Armbian point of view. My main reason for buying Rock Pi is for the M.2 port, I'm going to put my data on a M.2 disk. Booting from M.2 seems to be tricky though so I'm thinking about booting from micro SD card. Looked at a lot of other forums posts and it seems to be a common problem for the Orange pi 5B, but all the solutions i've tried hasn't worked. Most of the problems they seemed to have is not updating the armbianEnv.txt to include the "b" for this specific model from the opi 5. Below is the error message I always get whenever trying to boot from the EMMC. Using 6.1 kernel sometimes I can't see the EMMC in /dev, after installing the orange pi Ubuntu image I can see it. After I run armbian-install I can't see it in /dev. I put the orange pi image back on the sd card and I can see the EMMC was installed, the boot/armbianEnv.txt also does have the "b". …

With my other OPi's, I'm used to getting U-Boot messages -- but this was far from that: The garbage settles down after about 30 seconds. It looks like the whole PCIe bus is not initialised properly during boot. in the kernel log I see: [ 0.062396] /pcie@f8000000: Fixed dependency cycle(s) with /pcie@f8000000/interrupt-controller [ 2.160749] rockchip-pcie f8000000.pcie: host bridge /pcie@f8000000 ranges: [ 2.160771] rockchip-pcie f8000000.pcie: MEM 0x00fa000000..0x00fbdfffff -> 0x00fa000000 [ 2.160779] rockchip-…

  93. Started by crsp,

Flashed Armbian Buster to eMMc and now want to flash to Armbian Bionic. I know there's instructions using a usbC in the friendlyarm wiki but this just isn't working out... I used the Windows method / tool to erase the eMMC as it says which seemed to work but it still boots from the eMMC :/ Are there any better instructions any where?

  94. Hi. I'm new here and have a small issue. Situation is: I'm using the T4 board for an amateur radio repeater controller. The repeater works in an unmanned relay station 10 kilometers from the my home. To have access by remote even if the boot hangs for some reasons (maintenance mode), I have connected the debug uart (ttyS2) to a serial-to-IP adapter to have access anyway. Because the IP adapter cannot set up to 1.5 MBps, I have reduced the speed down to 115 kbps by changing the kernel argument in the boot.cmd from console=ttyS2,1500000 to console=ttyS2,115200. That worked well with the Armbian 5.69 stretch 4.4.167 kernel. Now I have made…

  95. I once had openmediavault (nas software) and citadel-server (groupware software) running together on an x86 computer with Debian operating system. When I try this on Helios64 running armbian (Debian 10 Buster) and kernel 5.8, then the package manager does not allow it. That means, when I start with an installed openmediavault and want then to install citadel-server as well the package manager removes openmediavault first. Does anybody have an idea or a solution to the problem?

  96. Started by skal,

Hi, I have an issue with an USB device which is not detected; looking on other forum, it seems that additional modules shall be added: - cdc_acm,cdc_ether - rndis_host - rndis_wlan - usbnet I'm not able to load these using the modprobe cmd & checking loaded modules with lsmode cmd. I suspect that they are not part of the kernel. Any hint how to solve this, eventually recompile / install ? Thanks by advance, Samuel

  97. I think i messed up with armbian-config, namely with 'system' sub section. I noticed that lately the only images that boot are armbian with kernel 6.9.x Nothing, i say nothing with a lower kernel number would boot -- even those SD cards that were good last time i tried them. None of orangepi factory images boot. In and out of itself, it is not a problem. Yet. But what if something changes in a future?

  98. Started by Merblud,

There are several questions on the topic: Between the moment of transfer of control to the kernel from the u-boot and the moment of start of the kernel operation it takes 1.5 -2 minutes. I assume that during this period of time there is decompression of the code and placement in memory. But why so long? The 4.4.x kernel starts instantly. When I first turned on a nanopc-t4 with a 5.x.x (4.20) kernel, I already thought the kernel was corrupted. And quite accidentally waited for the green LED to blink. Why is there still no sound in fdt for nanopc-t4? I corrected fdt, but I can 't put it in kernel.org. It is possible that my patch goes against the established str…

  99. Good evening, I have got Orange pi 5 board. MAC address of this board network interface `end1` changes every time I reboot the system. I tried adding entry in /boot/armbianEnv.txt, I tried specifying hwaddress in /etc/network/interfaces. Neither of those two options worked.

  100. I updated my Helios64 last night and now it keeps rebooting. Every now and then it runs for a few minutes so I can log in via ssh and then it reboots all at once. Installed on the system is only OMV 6.9.1-1 (Shaitan) and Docker with the image of Emby. the system runs on an installed M.2 SSD on slot 1. 4TB WD Reds are installed in slots 2, 3 and 5.
