Not at the time of generation, but Armbian is stuck on reboot, not going to heartbeat led nor getting IP, and does nothing. I have no idea how it is related and what I should do to: - restore boot; - apply a key without ruining the installation. Hi all, I want to try the new Armbian, but before I do, I need to get this Orange Pi 5 Max updated with whatever UEFI project is still maintained and supports it. The UEFI I have installed right now is a hacked relic from a now abandoned ARM distro that was given to me -- I assume surely this has been superceded by a more legitimate source? Thanks kindly for any updates, looking forward to rejoining the Armbian family soon as my UEFI is updated

I booted the RC from 1/20/2024, set the ftdfile to rc3588s-orangepi-5b.dtb in armbianEnv.txt, and rebooted: no wifi or bluetooth. The hci0 and wlan0 devices are not present. Picked up a P1 Pro the other day. Used the P1 installer, and it boots fine. However WiFi and m.2 dont work ( no m.2 makes it useless for me.. WiFi, i can use a dongle ) so i assume the device tree needs changed. Still a newbie at this, so unsure how i can find or extract the tree from somewhere else. They do have a couple of official builds of other OS, but not real sure how to get it from there, if you even can. Lots of googling for a tree has come up empty.

Hello, I am trying to enable Panfrost GPU acceleration on a new Armsom Sige5 board running the latest edge kernel (6.1.115), but glxinfo -B still shows llvmpipe. I have been troubleshooting this for some time and have discovered that the kernel module (panfrost.ko) loads correctly with modprobe, but it is not binding to the GPU hardware on boot. I believe I have found the reason why. A recent commit to the Armbian build system (https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/836def3d11699537e6289dedfbc766c2050d422d) changes the method for enabling Panfrost. It removes the panfrost overlay and adds KERNEL_TARGET_CONFIG="panfrost-all" instead. It…

Hello, I am quite new to this topic, and I have found it to be quite complex. I primarily work with tiny MCUs and RTOSes, but I am enjoying the Linux space so far. In essence I would like to use the Mali GPU that is embedded within the RK3399 of the Helios64 for hardware transcoding. This isn't a novel idea, as shown by these sources: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/9272-development-rk3399-media-script/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/66675-36078-transcoding-rockpro64/ I am using Jellying, and in so FFMPEG to decode/encode the data streams. It seems that V4L2 is supported for hardware ecoding/decoding in the FFMPEG p…

I have a Dev term a06 and have been having problems with the newer releases based on kernel 6.x. After booting one of these, the display does not have backlight or any text/image displayed. On the last 5.x it boots and works fine. I have not yet tried the HDMI output on the 6.x versions, need to get an adapter, but I'm guessing that the built in display is not discovered. The Dev term does not normally have a serial port, I'd need to solder up an adapter, or I would have looked at it to see if anything was happening. Any suggestions for a very basic Linux user to try? Especially something I can maybe edit after flashing (before first boot). I should be able t…

Hi, I've downloaded the latest two images from the links mentioned https://disk.yandex.ru/d/-zSW21XKN0pfIA/ArmbianTV/20230103-edge But none of them boot from SD on my M3 box. The only one booting is the image from this link https://redirect.armbian.com/station-m3/Bullseye_legacy_xfce But this makes the cooling fan on the M3 to always spin at full speed and it's not usable because of this (it's really noisy). How can I make the other images boot? Tried both Etcher and USBimager. Please help. Thanks.

Hello I need to change a drive in the Helios64, and so I bought a new WD 2TB drive. Using a WD My Book 111D USB enclosure, I have partitioned, formatted and copied the data from the old drive. But when I change the drives to put the new one in the Helios64, the drive appears unformatted. See below. I can't understand what's happening, when I plug it back through USB everything is back to normal. Does the partitioning through USB differ somehow??? It appears as if the partition table "stays in the USB enclosure", which doesn't make sense for me. Is there something to try? Do I have to start again the process in the NAS enclosure? I…

Hello to everybody, I am using rock 5b, PCB Version 1.42 with Armbian 22.11 CLI. I would like to connect IQaudIO DigiAMP+ based on the TAS5756 (https://shop.max2play.com/en/iqaudio-digiamp.html). According to the GPIO pinout of ROCK 5b and the datasheet of DigiAMP+ (page 21), this seams to be feasible from the electrical perspective. But the software perspective overwhelmes me as a linux novice. If I understand it correctly, I need more or less two things: a device tree overlay to activate the appropriate GPIOs with their I2S and I2C functionality and to tell the kernel about the attached device (DTS file or the compiled D…

Hello, Apologies for wrong tag, but I am hoping one or more can help with what has been a frustrating process for a Linux\Orange Pi newbie. Background information: I got Orange Pi 800 due to shortages with Pi 400. I wanted to run home assistant on it. Came to determine to get what I wanted would entail having Debian installed and not Ubuntu. Flashed the micro sd card and the Pi 800 does not boot to it. I was able to remote to it via Putty, but I was not able to set it up correctly. What ended up happening was Debian got installed but not in the way I expected. The Orange Pi desktop still boots but I get system application error. The Orange Pi can see the micro…

Hi - trust this is the right forum. I have forgotten the login password to my Arbian installation on the nanopi m4 V2. It boots from the eMMC just fine, but I am stuck at the prompt. I had only just installed it a few weeks ago (then things got hectic), so nothing really invested - I could just install again via the SD card, right? Unfortunately, it looks like the SD slot is no longer working. In the last 2-3 days nothing seems to boot from it. Which leaves me with an eMMC module loaded up with an Armbian - I think its bionic, because it does have wifi (buster never worked with wifi). In other 'vanilla' flavours of of l…

I have the Helios with two 10T disks mounted as a BTRFS raid 1 array. This setup is stable, although I have not stressed it a lot, except for when I do a btrfs scrub. I've recently upgraded my NanoPi M4 V2 to Armbian_25.2.1_Nanopim4v2_bookworm_current_6.12.13_minimal.img.xz and since that, I have been getting random crashing of it, to the point that I have to manually power it down and up again to get it back running again. Hi I found the following page https://www.armbian.com/rockpi4/ but I guess those files are for rock pi 4 and not rock pi 4 c? It has a link to 4 c plus images https://fi.mirror.armbian.de/dl/rockpi-4cplus/archive/ but they only contain bullseye? So are there any plans for rockpi 4 c plus to have a bookworm image? Are there any github pipelines that build them where I could send a pull request? (not that my c or c++ compilation skills are existing but I would be happy to give it a try).

I have a ROCK 3A that reaches Maskrom/recovery but will not boot any Radxa or Armbian SD image and produces no useful UART output. UART is configured per Radxa docs at 1500000 8N1 on the debug header, and the exact same adapter/host/settings work on another ROCK 3A. There is no eMMC and no NVMe installed. I also tried resetting/loading SPI via Maskrom using rkdeveloptool db rk356x_spl_loader_ddr1056_v1.12.109_no_check_todly.bin, then loading Radxa’s rock-3a-spi-image-gef9f6b1caad.img. Radxa’s ROCK 3A loader directory contains the matching SPI artifacts, including rock-3a-spi-image-gef9f6b1caad.img, rock-3a-idbloader-gef9f6b1caad.img, and rock-3a-u-boot-gef9f6b1caad.itb, a…

I tried to install Armbian_22.11.0-trunk_Rockpi-4b_bullseye_current_5.15.76_minimal.img.xz from https://github.com/radxa-build/rock-pi-4b/releases/tag/20221101-0235 After first reboot main partition goes readonly. Checking disk show free cluster records mismatch. It is not SD-card issue, because Ubuntu Server on same SD-card working perfectly.

Hi, at first thank your for your great work! I've successfully created an wifi hotspot on nanopiM4 using "Armbian_5.95_Nanopim4_Debian_buster_default_4.4.190" with armbian-config utitlity. After the tool is finished I can connect to the hotspot and it shares the internet connection.. However - when I reboot the system the hotspot still works and I can connect but I have no connection to the internet anymore. The nonopi itself has connection to internet, I checked that. Do you have any sugestions? Thank you in andvance! Christian

I have tried the poe hat i had for my rockpi 4 B but it doesn't physically fit so my question is will a POE hat for the rockpi 5 be anytime soon released ?

Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to switch from the current branch to the legacy one as I've read that the board will be much more stable with the older kernel ? I've installed my NanopiM4 last march, and I've experienced some random freezes of my board after some time (can take weeks). It seems that one of my solutions would be to use the legacy kernel as it is much more stable - information I got by reading the forums (something I haven't done before because I'm stupid and was in a hurry...). Is it possible to downgrade only the kernel at all ? Here are the packages that (I think) I have to replace : linux-bu…

Hello all, not sure if this is the right place for bug reporting. I'm getting a kernel panic during early boot (no hdmi initialized at this stage) since october 2024 when doing kernel updates. Mitigated the issue with holding back apt kernel updates. today i found time to finally connect a serial console to collect a boot log. The issue only happens if the SATA Penta Hat is connected via the flex cable, upon disconnecting the system/image boots to login prompt. To produce a clean boot log i got the latest image and booted via sd card : Armbian_community_25.8.0-trunk.375_Rockpi-4a_bookworm_current_6.12.38_minimal.img (Edit: Not sure…

It seems like the Radxa Rock5B has been downgraded from standard support to community support for the image downloads but not (yet) for the forum. Are the vendor images for the RK3588 and the 6.8.x images the same except for the kernel? (Can I expect to just replace the kernel to switch from the vendor image to the edge image.)

Hello, when i installed the helios64 initially i had the problem with the fans spinning at 100% (or really loud) and i solved it somehow. It was working fine with the fans spinning for one second when starting and shutting down the device. Now i finally updated the NAS with sudo apt update sudo apt upgrade sudo omv-release-upgrade sudo reboot and after the reboot the fans are now spinning really loud again all the time. Is anyone aware of an easy solution or a quick fix? Hi, Tested the current build (Armbian_19.11.3_Rockpi-4b_buster_current_5.3.11_desktop.7z) on a Rock Pi 4 v1.3. Working well so far the past couple of hours. Its an amazing feeling to be able to run the mainline kernel with so little issues. Some minor things: The Red Led keeps on blinking with this build. Earlier it only blinked if there was error while booting. New to this board, so this maybe incorrect. I booted up Radxa image and there also red light was blinking. Sound via 3.5 mm jack not working. Inserted earphone, no output. Sound via HDMI works. Thanks for your work. Edit- System info: aaditya…

Hi everyone, Big fan of debian based distro's. Have six Rock64's and looking for a newer kernel (4.9+) with default Ubuntu modules list. 3 have eMMC cards and 3 using the Pine64 USB->SATA adapter with SSD drives. I have powered usb hub, y cables, etc but am using USB2 without powered hub because it's reliable as is and USB3 boot with any distro power injection seems unreliable. Not too concerned about throughput. Ayufan's release bionic-minimal-rock64-0.7.11-1075-arm64.img.xz with 4.4 is very stable on these. However Ayufan's mainline kernels after 4.4 are stripped right back. I spent a couple days compiling kernels with Ayufa…

Last week I updated the Armbian on my NanoPi M4V2 to the latest version (Armbian 21.08.1 Buster with Linux 5.10.60-rockchip64) and started noticing some issues with my Zigbee2MQTT local install. With the help of the Zigbee2MQTT main developer, we managed to confirm that the issue was reproducible on 5.10.60, but everything was working fine on previous kernels like 5.4. Other users not on Armbian (Raspbian) also confirmed that they were experiencing this problem with the latest kernel but was working fine on previous versions. We realized a bug was introduced for the CH341 driver in 5.10.60, that seems to have been fixed now on 5.10.62. …

Hi folks, I got my helios64, assembled it during the weekend and can’t seem to actually install it. Here are some of the things I tried (I'm on windows 10 btw, I don’t have hdd drives yet, I assume this would not be an issue): · 2 sd cards (one of which is a Samsung as recommended in the wiki), two computers (with correct com ports as visible in the device manager, driver is installed), tried both on usb2 and usb3 · USB cable has been trimmed to fit the case properly - also tried with the back panel off and directly connected to the board · the devices starts up as soon as I plug in the power cord - I then use…

I built up a NanoPC-T4 with a 240GB NVMe. I am using the supplied heat sink and the black metal case that FriendlyArm sells. While I was copying an image over I got a board failure. A reset and power cycle didn't work. The stat light no longer shows activity. Just power.. that is all. Amazon was great and replaced the board. I am in the process of backing up my NVMe. After the backup I will run an OS install and restore the image. Has anyone else ran into this ? The black metal case isn't hot enough to burn my hands.. it's just very warm to the touch,. I ran the 5.8/5.9 kernel for weeks without any issues (no RAM unstability, no crash, no ethernet issue). Now I reinstalled the thing and came back to a 4.4 kernel to have USB-C support. The thing is… Once every hours, the 1GBps Ethernet disconnects. Once connected through serial port, I can check the port status and it's shown as `Unknown`. I can `ip link set down eth0; ip link set up eth0` to set it back up. Am I the only one with this issue ? Is it well known on 4.4 and solved on 5.9 ?

Hello, I bought myself a NanoPi M4V2 and 4x SATA HAT for NanoPi M4, hoping to make a small home made server with some docker containers. I installed Armbian buster 5.10.21, downloaded from your site and managed to boot the OS from an attached SATA drive. Hi, I’m using the Helios64 with Armbian 20.11 Buster ( 5.9.10-rockchip64) On every reboot the SMART counter for “Unexpected_Power_Loss (174)” / “POR_Recovery_Count (235)” incresses by one. I've got my helios64 recently, and I wonder what type of FS to choose for main storage. I have five 4TB disk drives. I've installed OMV, made raid5 and format it with XFS. I use XFS because I work with this FS on Centos on my x86 servers, I don't use ext4 because I don't like when sometimes it starts to check filesystem during boot process. My setup is working perfect for a couple of weeks. I don't have any reboots or freezes or any issues that I've read on this forum. Now I think about migrating from XFS to BTRFS or ZFS. The main reason is to have file check-summing and scrub. Does anybody have btrfs with raid5 or ZFS with raidz1 on Helios64? Do you have any problems wit…

Hi all! There's a dedicated RTC chip in Rock3A (HYM8563TS), but unfortunately it doesn't work right with the standard Armbian image. The chip is correctly identified, but the problem is with the RK809 PMIC, which also contains an RTC. During boot RK809 is labeled as rtc0, and HYM8563TS as rtc1, and by default kernel uses rtc0 for hwclock manipulations. Since RTC battery is connected to HYM8563TS, after power cycle RK809 is reset to 2017-08-05 09:00:00. | _ \ ___ ___| | __ |___ / / \ | |_) / _ \ / __| |/ / |_ \ / _ \ | _ < (_) | (__| < ___) / ___ \ |_| \_\___/ \___|_|\_\ |____/_/ \_\ Welcome to Armbian 23.11.1 Bookwo…

I have a question. Why isnt all the rockchip information including forward mainline all in one space for all to see and collaborate/advance? That question is the right one to ask at the end of this particular week — because you've now personally visited every scattered fragment: English docs in one repo, Chinese docs in another, the mainline truth in Collabora's private notes file, the seek-handling wisdom buried in nyanmisaka's ffmpeg fork, the SoC-capability gotcha in a Jellyfin support thread, the 10-bit format law in a kernel patch, and the B-frame fix in nobody's space until Tuesday. Here's why it's like this — the honest anatomy: 1. Rockchip itself …

I have to power cycle the box to get it back online as I don't have any peripherals, and soon I will lose …

I am hoping that the community can enlighten me on how the Armbian development process works. I just purchased a Rock 64 board to use for a NextCloud box at home. I am seeing that Armbian seems to be the "best" OS solution for this. I also see that the Armbian release for Rock64 is still in "testing" phase. I would really prefer to run a "stable" release for this application. So my question is how does Armbian for Rock64 move from testing to stable. What is the process, what still needs to be done? I am not a developer or linux expert by any means. I am wondering how the process works so the I can see if I might be able to assist in any way. …

The binaries supplied with the ArmBian release for the Rock Pi 4 work great. However, when I try to build my own from Mainline sources, I see lots of booting issues. Do you use Rockchip provided binaries, or are they built from scratch? Any help would be gratefully received.

Dear to all, I have a Helios64 unit with 2 hdd (both WD60EFRX). I have bought also an external enclousure UGREEN 5 Bay Hard Drive Enclosure ( https://eu.ugreen.com/collections/hard-drive-enclosures/products/ugreen-5-bay-hard-drive-enclosure-5-x-18tb-raid-array-hard-disk-docking-station ) and 2 WD140EDGZ and these 2 hdd are mounted inside UGREEN enclousure because I want format and test it (when all will work fine I'll exchange a WD60EFRX with a WD140EDGZ so the drives inside the enclousure will have a backup scope). The enclousure is powered by external adapter, the system image installed is the Armbian 22.02.1 with Linux kernel 5.15.93-rockchip 64 and openmediavault 6.6…

I'm having an aggressive memory leak issue I can't place: Within 5 minutes the 4GB are full. htop and top don't show a massive program growing unbouded. `df` doesn't show a tmpfs that is too large. Only `slabtop` is imforative: OBJS ACTIVE USE OBJ SIZE SLABS OBJ/SLAB CACHE SIZE NAME 26638624 26638624 99% 0.12K 832457 32 3329828K kmalloc-128 So `kmalloc-128` is growing without bounds. As I understand it kmalloc is a collection of smaller memory allocations? I've tried using a previous kernel version (5.10.16 and 5.10.12) but nada. I've disabled docker, and that along with omv were the only services running…

Hello I'm running a Plex server on my Helios64 and when I turn on subtitles it buffers every other second making the movie unwatchable. Is this a known issue with a fix? Sincerely Magnus Nygren

I notice the Helio64 hardware supports WOL, but I can't see anything in the Wiki about it (only Helios4) The Helio64 can draw some power with 5 spinning disks, I would love to have it sleep until needed. Is there any information on setting this up? I can see Autoshutdown plugin for OMV, but there is options for: Shutdown Hibernate Suspend Hybrid Sleep Suspend then Hibernate Does Helios64 support all these methods? Then once the unit is in some form of shutdown or sleep state, how can I make use to WOL to wake it up? Thanks.

So I noticed my NanoPC-T4's will not boot an image made with the latest armbian build script. I did a binary search on the commits and tracked down the breaking change: commit 75d0f64e3d75e7c34466871b9723ef1a238609d8 <- THIS COMMIT AND ANYTHING AFTER IS BROKEN Author: Piotr Szczepanik <piter75@gmail.com> Date: Fri Apr 17 21:30:37 2020 +0200 Switch rk3399 to u-boot v2020.04 (#1873) * Switched rk3399 to u-boot 2020.04-rc4 * Switched rk3399 u-boot to v2020.04, synchronized configs * Updated to u-boot v2020.04 final * Fixed OrangePi 4 device tree reference commit cc98ba3c0d3ff8d84ed08bfbf691b3bc94a6bc2b <- THIS BOOTS FINE Author:…

If anyone in the US is looking for a Helios64 but don't want to wait for the next batch, I'm prolly selling mine. I ended up using an older windows desktop to build a server; took all of an hour to set up. I wanted to use this because it uses a lot less power and I wanted the computer for another project, but I don't have the time to screw with it trying to get it to actually function. If no one wants it, I'm just going to strip the case down as a HDD enclosure and cut my losses.

Dear Forum! If you are using Emmc as boot device, a M.2-ssd as system device and OMV is installed. You can backup with the OMV given image-backup (dd, fsarchiver). But how you can restore the backup? You need to boot from Sdcard (boot and system from sd)? And after that you can switch again back to emmc-boot and ssd-system without any issue? Is there any other easier way i.e. with CloneZilla to image-backup/restore? How you can do this?
