An area for discussing general topics about Armbian on TV Boxes

  1. Good evening! I've bought the R69 1GB TV-Box on eBay some days ago with the plan in mind to run Armbian there. Sadly the box even dont want to start the kernel, it's stuck in U-Boot Loader when a SD is inserted: U-Boot SPL 2018.05-armbian (Jul 31 2018 - 05:08:39 +0200) DRAM: 1024 MiB Trying to boot from MMC1 And then nothing happens. I've tried couple of images. Beelink Image with Mainline and legacy Kernel, RetroOrangePi Images and so on - for now I haven't found a working one. In some other Thread someone mentioned that there are different versions of this device, and i found some Thread where someone also has trouble w…

  2. Just wanted to report that I have been experimenting compiling the kernel for Oleg's various Armbian images for S9XXX TV boxes and have managed to compile and boot mainline kernel, but this required a small change in Oleg's S905_autoscript in /boot. Basically I just added a couple of lines that bootm the uImage if it is present. If there is no uImage it proceeds to booti Oleg's zImage: setenv boot_start_ml bootm ${kernel_addr} ${initrd_addr} ${dtb_mem_addr} if fatload mmc 0 ${kernel_addr} uImage; then if fatload mmc 0 ${initrd_addr} uInitrd; then if fatload mmc 0 ${env_addr} uEnv.ini; then env import -t ${env_addr} ${filesize};fi; if fatload mmc 0 ${dtb_m…

  4. Hello community, I wonder how Armbian could run on this (now dirt cheap*) Mecool M8S Plus W Android 7.1 TV Box (Amlogic 905W) which doesn't have a microSD card slot or even ethernet. *Did I say dirt cheap? Around $18 shipped for the 2GB/16GB RAM/ROM sounds cheap - doesn't it? See here for more information: https://www.cnx-software.com/2020/01/22/mecool-m8s-plus-w-tv-box-sells-for-less-than-15-promo/

I have a problem. I try to boot "Armbian_5.67_Aml-s9xxx_Debian_stretch_default_4.19.7_20181228.img.xz" on a S905L 3B TV box, the ditb file use the default one (it works for S905L). I use a TTL to USB device to check signal, and it started to login stage. However, the LAN port and HDMI port seem not work, as I can' t use SSH to connect to Armbian and I can't see any thing on the screen. So I guess maybe the dtb file is not suitable, and there may not be a suitable dtb for S905L3B. Could I modfiy a dtb file based on the S905L dtb file and the dtb file from the Andriod system in the S905L 3B TV box?

  9. Hi, I am new to this site, so far I have not been able to find a newbie list of what type of hardware to start with. I do not have any device yet. I have been looking at the android tv boxes on amazon, and I want to start with a $30 box, to be able to load linux on it, and have a graphical interface (ie like a Gnome/KDE desktop view) and then be able to install a vnc server, so the device can be controlled remotely. I have two projects in mind: 1. a chromium based browser install, for viewing webpages and playing any videos embedded in those webpages. 2. later on, perhaps with different more robust hardware?, add the capacity to insta…

  10. Hey I'm pretty new to this community. I have Mini M8S II which is running libreelec just fine with the stock dtb. I want to turn it into a small server with armbian but it always fails to boot. The box apparently has S905X which should "translate" into this dtb gxl_p212_2g_kvim.dtb. Libreelec refuses to boot with it but when I used older built of Coreelec it booted with gxbb_p200_1G_1Gbit.dtb which should be S905 not S905X. Armbian and libreelec refuses to boot with that dtb. I've tried most of the included dtb even putting them to main directory and renaming them as dtb.img (Yes I've read that I'm supposed to change the location in config file) At this point I think …

  11. Hi, long story short I managed to flash a rom that killed my dual booting and my recovery, it now locks up on splash screen just after boot BUT i can still launch armbian from a SD card and only armbian (I tried a libreelec build which worked previously dual booting but no longer works). I am no where near knowledgeable enough to know where to start or if its even possible to flash a recovery through armbian? Any help will be hugely appreciated, thanks.

I got a tv-box the other day which I have been playing around with. I dont have much experience working with the arm64 architecture, I have mostly been playing around with ultrasparc and the mainline architectures. I have no problem getting the system to boot and work but I cannot get all the boards features to work so my OCD is not allowing me to let this pass without exploring all options. 30. I am starting a new thread as this discussion doesn't belong in the "Single Armbian image for RK + AML + AW" thread. The end user need is that users (I think this is especially true of TV box users) think of Armbian for TV boxes like a standard linux distribution. What this means is that they expect to receive security updates and critical bug fixes. They are after all trying to run home servers and desktops on this platform. And for the most part they get these fixes from the upstream distributions (ubuntu or debian). However they don't get fixes for the linux kernel. The question "how do I get kernel updates?" gets asked quite frequently in the TV box …

We got an old Allwinner H3 which to my recent knowledge is very old now. This was our first TV box purchase and yeah, admittedly, we should have searched deeper before purchasing anything. Luckily, we got the box dirt cheap.. around $20 only. It runs Android 7.1.2 which is good for media playback, but hella laggy even for light multitasking or even light web browsing. We bought the TV box hoping my siblings could seamlessly use it for their remote learning. I heard Beelink X2 has an H3 and used to have official Armbian support, so I grabbed the im…

It would be many useful to be able to do the exact opposite as well, i.e. clone eMMC to MicroSD, which would be useful to have a bootable backup with all the customizations performed on the eMMC, without having to go through the process of creating an image file. Hello all, I have a box with a S905x that I've been able to get to boot using @balbes150 image: Armbian_5.71_Aml-s9xxx_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.20.2_20190118.img Which I found at https://yadi.sk/d/pHxaRAs-tZiei Everything works (as far as I know) except for the WIFI. I cracked the device open and have identified the wifi chip as S9082C. I've done a fair bit of searching on the web and in the forums and I've found people having issues with this wifi module, but no solutions. I have also tried installing LibreELEC and found that it recognises and uses the wifi right from the start. I tried copying the dtb.…

  50. Greetings! I have an S905 based TX3. I have not really heard much at all about this box. I hear about the S905W based TX3 and another S905D based one if I recall but this is NOT THOSE. 52. Hi. I am trying to connect a bluetooth speaker that also has a microphone to armbian. When using it as a plain speaker via A2DP, it works fine. However when i switch it to HSP/HFP in order to use the microphone, i get a lot of static, random crackling and very low volume on both the microphone and the speaker. Using a usb bluetooth adapter for this. I've used the same adapter + speaker on a different machine (x86 running lubuntu 19.10) and i did not have any static at all when using HSP/HFP (sound was indeed a bit lower quality that A2DP but nothing major). Hi! I saw that, even if not officially supported, there is a lot of discussion about armbian on tv boxes. I read that amlogic ones are not really a good choice and rockchip and allwinner ones should be the right choice instead. I am thinking to buy a tv box to play with armbian, you know...for fun! But I am quite undecided. Would be an Allwinner H6 the best option or should I buy something with a Rockchip 3229, 3288 or 3388? And moreover, what would be the best choice and why between the Rockchip ones? I have already read the thread "Status of Armbian on TV Boxes - Please Read First" but at the moment there are no informations regarding Rockchip and Allwinner.

I'm confused about what is the 'best' Tv Box chip-set to get here, Amlogic (yeah I noticed the threads about them lying about CPU speed, but I don't care) or Rockchip etc. What has the best, or is likely in the future to have good Linux Kernel support for WiFi, Ethernet, SD Card, Audio, HDMI and Hardware Decoding (and bonus points for encoding!)? Amlogic seems to be a winner right? Any links to Aliexpress products that fit the bill?

Hello, I have a Beelink Mini MXIII. I successfully installed Armbian on an SDCard, and booted from it then I used the "Armbian configuration utility" to install onto eMMC. Now the box is bricked, there is no signal to hdmi. I tried to use the "USB Burning tool" method, and tried to burn the firmware on an SD card, but with no success when booting. What should I do from here ?

Hi guys, first post! I took the plunge and installed armbian on my android box. It boots and runs fine off SD but when I try to install to eMMC it just boots and hangs on the original Google TV splash screen. I noticed while reading tutorials that when I run and-sata-install it's supposed to ask me where to boot from, but all it does is copies all my files to /dev/data. How can I tell it to boot from eMMC? I notice near the end it says four times: /dev/boot: no Android Magic Value /dev/boot: not a valid Android Boot Image. Any help appreciated thank you!

  99. Hello, this is my first post after lot of reading in this forum. First of all, my goal: use the M16 TVBOX as Think Client to use as RDP client. M16 TVBOX spec: Android 7.1 S905X RAM 2GB Space 16GB PCB: M16_V8.0 171109 The problem would be solved, except that for functional reasons, I have to install Armbian on internal memory, replacing Android. I've tested Armbian_5.77_Aml-s905_Ubuntu_bionic_default_5.0.2_desktop_20190401.img.xz successfully, boot from SD, no errors, installed Remmina, RDP comes up. Too good to be true. Too bad I can't install it on the internal memory…
