Hi forum. I have a board on allwinner 64. I can compare that video playback in a browser on a 5.4 kernel is better than on a 5.10.89 kernel. the browsers are the same from the repository. can anyone tell what this is related to?

Hi forum members, I need to run a script only once at boot or reboot. Using the @reboot method in the crontab is not working under Armbian. For example neither of these lines at the end of the /etc/crontab file is working: neither @reboot date >> /home/pi/boottime.txt nor @reboot /home/pi/control.sh init >> /home/pi/init.log Please has someone a hint how to get it to work under Armbian ? Regards wollik

Guys, I've been trying for quite a while to get a custom resolution of 1280x390 to work with my Odroid N2+. I can get that resolution to work with the official builds from Hardkernal, both Ubuntu and android, but I'm needing the hardware acceleration in the graphics that's working in armbian. Can anyone help me out with trying to get this resolution set? I'm not sure if I'm putting or creating the u-boot settings correct or if there's an issue with trying to use xrandr to set the resolution. Unfortunately the EDID of the HDMI board is not reporting the correct resolution. I have the modeline information that works with the official builds and works perfectly with the…

Is every 6 hours a good interval to fstrim an SD card? Is it safe for the SD card to be TRIMed often? I know that SD card trimming is not like TRIM on an SSD, but the operation performed on a SD card that supports CMD38 performs a similar function, to tell the SD card which pages do not contain valid data.

Hey. I don't know if this is the correct board. In another section i got a red warning, and i understand it in a way, to absolute not post anything in there. On the downloadpage for the Odroid HC4 i'm able to download this version: Armbian_21.08.9_Odroidhc4_focal_current_5.10.81_minimal.img.xz with this link: https://redirect.armbian.com/region/EU/odroidhc4/Focal_current_minimal But with "apt update ; apt upgrade" my HC4 stays on "Armbian 21.08.8 Focal with Linux 5.10.81-meson64" Do i have to do something else? Best regards, Tuffi

I've got Bananapi M1 with broken sd card detect pin (pad is delaminated and I cannot solder it to ground). In the past I was able to mitigate this issue by patching file \linux-mainline\linux-4.14.y\arch\arm\boot\dts\sun7i-a20-bananapi.dts and replacing "cd-gpios...." line with "broken-cd;" . This fix does not work anymore with current stable image (kernel linux-5.15.y). Does anyone know how else to solve it? Does u-boot (Bananapi-defconfig) need to be modified as well?

Hello dear Armbian Community, I've been trying to get a custom M.2 PCIe Adapter Board, based on the ASMedia ASM1182e PCIe Packet Switch, to work for a couple of days on my NanoPi M4V2. After solving a few other issues, where it didn't even finish pci link training, it's finally being sort-of-recognized by the SBC (Atleast PCI ID [1b21:1182] is being read). But now, whenever the Adapter is plugged into the SBC, it doesn't boot and aborts with a kernel panic. I've read about this issue already in other forums and it seems to be a common problem with the PCIe Implementation on the RK3399. Usually, one just implements a delay between pci link training and scanning…

Hello In raspberry pi there is an option to add a boot splash screen, looking in this forum I havent found and instructions or if it is even possible. I am not interested with u-boot splash screen but when the Linux start booting. I am using 3.5" SPI LCD and I do see the boot logs when the Linux is loading. So my question is if there is any guide of how to do that boot splash screen in Armbian or there is no way to do that?

Hello everyone, maybe I can get a solution here. My banana Pi M1 mainly runs as an energy-saving recording module for web radio etc. and is occasionally updated "by hand". Since I felt the bananian was hopelessly outdated, armbian runs on the dwarf. Recently there was also the update from 5.10 to 5.15. Kernel included: linux-dtb-current-sunxi/focal 22.02.1 armhf [aktualisierbar von: 21.08.2] linux-image-current-sunxi/focal 22.02.1 armhf [aktualisierbar von: 21.08.2] Unfortunately, the banana Pi can no longer be shut down cleanly, kernel panic, hangs and does not switch off. Reinstalled the old kernel and stapled it down, all good a…

Hi, since I upgraded my debian-based Armbian installations from 21.08.x to 22.02.1 the DISTRIBUTION_CODENAME variable is empty in the MOTD. It seems this error is in file https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/packages/bsp/common/etc/update-motd.d/10-armbian-header since commit https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/3378/commits/1c71761973858c2bea16074075ef74157c2a960b. It tries to read the DISTRIBUTION_CODENAME from /etc/lsb-release, which is non-existent on debian-based Armbian. So I propose to read the variable from /etc/os-release instead, which is existent on Ubuntu AND Debian: --- /etc/update-motd.d/10-a…

armbian-ramlog & armbian-truncate-log are not executed due to an error parsing the XTRA_RSYNC_TO=(--delete) from /etc/default/armbian-ramlog This results in quick saturation of /var/log. The hardware watchdog /dev/watchdog does not reboot the board in a brand new installation with 22.02 image. What happens instead is the green LED on board goes off, both LEDs on ethernet port go on and thats it - boards halt. However, if I flash previous 21.08 to sdcard everything works fine, even after I upgraded the installation via apt-get update & apt-get upgrade to latest packages.

Hi all, I have a Rock64 running on the "official" image (at the time, according to the official Pine64 documentation) "Armbian Ubuntu Bionic XFCE Desktop". Recently I updated it but suddenly it stopped working. After rebooting, all the 3 LEDs were lit, ON all the time and that was about it. I thought it was some kind of SD card corruption because it couldn't load some files from the SD card after the update and before rebooting. The only thing that came to mind to fix this was to restore a backup I had from Dec 2020. So I restored it and it worked again! But guess what... after updating the 280 packages that had an update, it stopped working again. But this time it w…

This is a really weird struggle: I have 2x cubieboard that are exactly identical (same HW, same board revision) including the LAN chip (realtek RTL8201CP). Both boards work fine with an earlier version of Armbian. I learned that there is an (unsupported) Armbian 21.08.1 Bullseye with Linux 5.15.25-sunxi which I installed on both. Behavior however differs with the LAN (eth0) interface. The one board works straight from install with DHCP (default), the 2nd won't work at all. dmesg | grep eth (partially) outputs: sun7i-dwmac 1c50000.ethernet eth0: no phy at addr -1 sun7i-dwmac 1c50000.ethernet eth0: stmmac_open: Cannot attach to PHY (error: -19) …

My OPi Zero is not accessible via SSH after installing the new supported image Armbian 22.02 Jammy. After the install, the device is up and ping-able. Any attempt to SSH in with `ssh root@<ip-address>` ends in a `ssh: connect to host 192.168.88.9 port 22: Connection timed out` error. When I reboot the board and try again, it's still the same issue. A ping with `ping 192.168.88.9` works. For completeness, I tried also with the edge instead of the current jammy image. Same error.

Hi there. More than a year ago i started a project on this CPU and mainly succeeded with Nanopc-T4 board, old Armbian (5.95/4.4.179) and a custom DTB. The hardware project included the SBC and a Chinese TFT dashboard-style display panel (thus - MIPI/DSI, as I could not find the same for LVDS). Mainly using the poke-and-peek method I collected the way to mod the DTS so the DSI port is active, and the display worked like a charm. Mostly I pasted the DSI part from OrangePi DTS. I must admit that that turned out to be pure luck. Because once I moved (after big pause) to the SOM and self-designed carrier board (identical in USB, SSD, MMC, video section to Friend…

I am new to armbian and R2S, and would like to ask for guides of the way to set up hotspot. An Orange Pi R1+ LTS is on its way to me to replace the Orange Pi R1 that currently serves as my firewall (my fibre speed has increased and 100Mbps PHYs are too slow) The board is similar to the Orange Pi R1+ except that a NIC has a different chipset. Orange Pi R1+ LTS uses Rockchip rk3328 and has 1GB DDR3 memory and two 1 Gbps NICs. Compared to the Orange Pi R1+, the Realtek RTL8211E PHY has been replaced with a YT8531C PHY. The memory is also DDR3 vs DDR4. Armbian has WIP images for the Orange Pi R1+, but not the Orange Pi R1+ LTS. I guess that this could be a good starting point if I can figure out how to change the PHY.

Hello I'm just wondering that there are two release files in /etc and why they have different VERSION values. In armbian-image-release file, VERSION is 20.08.1 But it is 21.08.8 in armbian-relase file. armbian-config and welcome massages also show version as 21.08.8 So I think 21.08.8 is correct one, but then why armbian-image-release has incorrect version value? Is it a bug? Or am I missing something? Please help me. Thank you.

However I see e.g. the deb files for the kernel are existing in http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt/pool/main/l/linux-5.15.25-sunxi/ and also http://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt/dists/buster/main/binary-armhf/Packages contains the new packages. The kernel is NOT set to freeze in armbian-config. Also that tool does not offer the new 20.02 packages. I seem to overlook something here. What prevents the installation (my apt skill are obviously limited...). …

OrangePi 4, Question in subject as I found at least 3: - https://github.com/morrownr/88x2bu - https://github.com/fastoe/RTL8812BU - # REALTEK RTL88x2B USB Linux Driver **Current Driver Version**: 5.13.1 **Support Kernel**: 2.6.24 ~ 5.17 (with unofficial patches) (forgot URL). This message is on-topic, but for an unknown reason, it is not possible for me to create a message in Help wanted. So I post here. I have used Armbian for two years, I think, on several devices, and I have given some money to support it. Thanks for the job. I recently upgraded to the last version with Debian 11. Everything fine but one point which is probably not a bug, that's why I don't post in "bugs". I use Unbound which is the heart of my soft. And I use a python script which is loaded by Unbound. Until now, there was no problem. With the last version, I ran in several read problems. The first reason I found is apparmor, which prevented the script to o…

Hello Everyone! I'm currently working on a nano pi m4b with a rockchip 3399 processor on it. I need to use an USB camera for my application but I am experiencing some issues that have been really hard to track down lately. First of all I'm using a 5 mega pixels camera with a OV5640 CMOS sensor and I experience some glitches with the image while live streaming. Besides that, I can only get an image while connected to USB 2.0, the 3.0 gives me a black screen with sporadic glitched frames. I'm running Linux 4.4.213-rk3399 on it and here are the dmesg dump logs I'm geting. Has anyone else had this kind of issue? [Feb24 19:13] Booting Linux on physical CPU 0x0 [ +0.00000…

Very often when i do apt update or apt dist-upgrade some of the armbian mirrors acts up and pretty much denies connections (it isnt the generic debian mirrors as other distros are working fine). I assume they are just overloaded and theres not much to do about that. But it has caused one of my system to be out of date for a few weeks I assume because the unattended upgrade script doesnt retry. How do I get this to work? for example some times i have to retry up to 10 times before I can get apt to work (when I try manually). The apt configuration in etc is a bit of magic to me so Id appreciate if someone can guide me to get unattended upgrades to retry connecti…

Hello, I am wondering about the support of kernel-updates for the hardkernel SBCs like N2/N2+, C4 oder HC1/2. The current available kernels are pretty outdated and on level 5.10.81 or 5.4.160. Will there be soon new kernels available especially, as we are now facing the Dirty pipe exploit? Thanks! regards, Udo

Hi, first post here and it's a question. I have searched on here and generally on the 'net with no luck. I have a N2+ in a KKSB case, I'm trying to get the power button working. KKSB supply instructions for Ubuntu Mate which involve adding a couple of lines to the Boot.ini file as follows: Open a terminal windows and enter "sudo nano /media/boot/boot.ini" Add the following lines under # Boot Args ###in case of GPIOX.3 (Pin 11) of 2x20 pins connector setenv gpiopower "479" setenv bootargs ${bootargs} gpiopower=${gpiopower} My problem is that boot.ini doesn't exist. I have searched the filesystem, but can't find i…

Hi, this is a problem that has persisted on my Orange Pi H2+ Board (running Armbian) for quite some time now. At one stage I thought I had resolved the issue, but now since an update to some unrelated software, said software no longer works. I have tracked this back to the locale settings, which, for all intents and purposes, don't exist. I have tried a variety of fixes, such as trying to set Locale using the armbian-config , but Locale remains adamantly blank. I can SSH into the board (which is where I ran the arm config program, as well as the following commands). I tried dpkg-reconfigure locales but I only get told the following: pe…

I installed and compiled varios browsers based on QtWebKit - falkon, konqueror, otter-browser - and they are all pretty fast compared to their chromium/firefox colleagues. Unfortunately, the input of special characters (é, ñ, ü, ß) doesn't work. The letters appear as UTF code. However, the letters are displayed correctly in chromium/midori/firefox, and the console. Thus, I blame Qt. This is very annoying e.g. for webmailing and editing text, since typing in languages with special characters such as Spanish and German is practically impossible. Any idea how to fix that?

Hello; on OrangePi Zero LTS I have completely stupid values for CPU temperature. They were all reasonable for pre-LTS boards. I have read somewhere that this is a known bug. A kernel patch is probably available, but even if it's the case,I can not update my kernel. Where can I find the algorythm to compensate the value ? It's easier for me to fix the issue in userland code, rather than updating kernel. How can I distinguish between pre-LTS and LTS boards ? Maybe MAC address for LTS are always in a given range ? I have a legacy board with MAC 12:42:98:f9:c8:XX, and a LTS with 12:42:3a:63:04:XX (unfortunately the LTS has a lower MAC :/ does not seem chronologica…

Hey, i bought somewhere on the end of internet some board with AllWinner A10 - ARM Cortex A8 processor. Board was cheap (15$) and had info about compatibility with Armbian. Sound good deal for tests. BUT of course cant be so easy It was true, Armbian working but only version 5.24 Jessie for Lime-A10 from previous age. All newest version booting well but without working usb ports. What i figured out its a problem with device tree configuration but Armbian based on Jessie working with fex files, all newest distributions unfortunately with dts files responsible for device tree config and i dont know how to set up device tree in newer versions. After few days fighting i…

New to Armbian... I am working on Armbian 21.08 Bullseye as it is suppose to work on Odroid HC4 and it uses uboot from the mSD card. I downloaded the image from https://redirect.armbian.com/odroidhc4/Bullseye_current I wrote it to SD card with xzcat Armbian_21.08.9_Odroidhc4_bullseye_current_5.10.81.img.xz | dd of=/dev/mmcblk0 status=progress bs=4M Connected the serial console, inserted the mSD card and LAN cable and booted (no HD yet). I am getting a # prompt when I should be getting a login to login as root. So something is not write. Do I have to delete the bootloader as discussed at https://www.armbian.com/odroid-hc4/ …

Hey guys... Having a strange issue since a couple of days. We got a couple of new board (10) and all of them are using an eMMC of 64GB. For an unknown reason, some of them are unable to survive after the first update and reboot using the latest armbian 21.08! Either, it's not booting from SPI OR at some point we see strange thing as segfault when trying some program! We try to replace the eMMC but the same eMMC works perfectly in another rockpro64! I also try to install first the old image with kernel 4.4 and it will survive all the time until we upgrade to 5.10 and then it refuse to boot from SPI! EDIT: Did another…

Hi all, I have upgraded an Odroid C2 setup to C4, and encountered some strange issues. The SPI interface of C2 is bit banging, while the C4 offers "real" hardware support for SPI. I use a current kernel (5.10.102) with Bullseye. I use two SPI /CS lines, while one SPI controller takes care of "user" interaction with the LatticeSemi MachXO2 FPGA on the addon board. The other SPI controller is used to reflash the MachXO2 by the SPI. On the C2, everything works fine (while slow, due to bitbanging). On the C4, the same code on Odroid and FPGA fails - but only on the reflashing interface, not the user interface. The user int…

Iam a newbie to orangepi 3. I never had experience in doing anything in SBC's before. I was trying to learn to create a home NAS with orange pi 3 and open media vault. I was impressed with orange pi as it was cheap and more hardware. Here is what i did which took me days but ended up in nothing 1) Got success with ssh. Dloaded Armbian bullseye mainline image from armbian website. Mounted it to class 10 SD by Etcher. After finishing, no boot drive on sd card. Shows 'SD is corrupted'. I saw in this forum that after mounting, two files such as kernal and boot files should be present for ORPi 3 to boot.https://redirect.armbian.com/orangepi3/Bullseye_current 2)…

I'm trying to upgrade my kernel. However on the new kernel the boot loader says 'Applying kernel provided DT overlay sun50i-h5-spi-spidev.dtbo'. But there are no spi devices. If I run the old kernel, everything is there. In a bit more detail... 1) Download linux source 5.16.10 2) Copy config from /boot/ directory 3) Make menuconfig 4) turn on real time PREEMPT (something I want to experiment with) 5) build 6) build the modules 7) copy the kernel and modules to the sd card 8) link Image to the new version. reboot The device comes up and networking is working, but I have no /dev/spi …

hello guys, how to activate bridge mode between the 2 ethernet ports of R2S (WAN and LAN) which are referred to as eth0 and lan0 respectively, so as both of them have the same ip address. i tried this https://wiki.debian.org/BridgeNetworkConnections#Manual_bridge_setup but when i reach the command which adds interfaces to the bridge (# brctl addif br0 eth0 lan0)then the ssh connection is lost. i noticed something as well, in interfaces file i added eth0 and lan0 and gave each one a different ip. but then it seems as is now i have two IPs but for the same port (WAN), and no ip for lan port!!!

I've just installed armbian to Pinebook Pro's eMCC using the full-disk encryption helper script from https://github.com/mmgen/mmgen-geek-tools The said script was executed inside an armbian installation in an sd card with official Pinebook Pro image. The eMCC installation almost worked - it boots to graphical desktop, however there's no wifi and bluetooth. I don't have any other way to connect the laptop to internet. I guess the way to fix this is to boot the sd card again because it has internet, then open the encrypted disk manually and chroot to its root, then run some command - but I don't know which one! Please help.

Well, I just bought a CloudShell direct from HarkKernel in South Korea. It was delivered and assembled. However, the LCD display - a major selling point - is non-functional. It appears to require a kernel module specific to the odroid xu4 specific kernel, that isn't available in the stock kernel. I am attempting to compile a 4.x.y kernel from hardkernel sources. So far, 4.14 doesn't appear to work. I want to run Open Media Vault 6, but currently, it only supports Armbian Bullseye, not any Ubuntu, etc. Armbian/OMV works for everything except he LCD. I am attempting to remedy the issue, but it will mean downgrading my kernel, which may ca…

Hi, I am trying to optimize torrent download speeds on SBC. and I have the RPI4-2GB board. I get somewhat similar results for the Odroid HC1. I only download 1 torrent at a time, and I dont upload. So very simple requirements. On a 1000/1000Mbit connection. Samsung 4TB 870QVO HDD - UAS enabled and tested with good controller. Same file downloaded multiple times. So the external factors such as the ISP or the Storage is for sure NOT the bottleneck here. When using the dts editor in armbian-config, a different dts is shown than the one that I defined in extlinux.conf. For my RK3188 based minix neo X7, I decompiled an existing dtb from boot/dtb into a dts file using dtc on my Linux computer. I edited this into a new dts and compiled it into a dtb. I placed this under the name rk3188-x7.dtb in my boot/dtb folder, referenced to it in extlinux.conf and my system booted using this dtb (checked in dmesg). However, when I try to use armbian-config to edit my dtb/dts, it shows a different dts. Any idea how or where to change this so I can easily work on my dts?

Hi, I started armbian from SD card on a Libre.Computer Le Potato board. Runs like hell and seems much more robust than the Ubuntu 18.04 img that I used before. But how can I get it on my 32 Gb eMMC (5.)??? E.g. the Ubuntu image of Le Potato has a script called ``lc_distro_transfer``. Is there anything similar for armbian? Note: For the Ubuntu image, one has to mount the eMMC after the booting from the SD card has started; kind of ugly, but otherwise the Potato tries to start from the eMMC. Best, Robert
