Hi! I've just downloaded the Armbian_23.8.3_Orangepi3-lts_bookworm_current_6.1.53_cinnamon_desktop.img onto a 16GB SD card, plugged it to the Opi and started it up. Then I connected to it using SSH, and it works just fine. But when I tried VNCViewer (actually, MobaXTerm on Windows), nothing is displayed but a message saying that Cinnamon crashed and "you are currently running in fallback mode". I've tried to install another window manager, like lightdm with xface4 with no success. I also tried to remove cinnamon and reinstall it, again to no avail. I did the same to x11 and again couldn't have any desktop manager running. Then I burned t…

When WLAN didn't work on OPI PC, I could connect OPI to x86 PC via Ethernet and X86 PC to WLAN. Since WLAN now works on OPI PC (thanks Igor!), I would like to connect the x86 PC to the OPI PC via Ethernet and let it use Internet. How can this be done? Infos at http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/591-wlan0-only-works-when-eth0-plugged-in/didn't help.

If possible, I would like to shutdown or wake up the Odroid N2 using a GPIO button. I followed the guide here: https://wiki.odroid.com/odroid-n2/application_note/gpio/gpio_key_wakeup. The button LED works, but the button does not trigger shutdown or wake up using pin 9 and 11. Has anyone gotten a power button to work on the Odroid N2? Is there a specific Odroid module/software that isn't installed by default in Armbian? Hi there. Is there any way to set hostname of freshly installed board with armbian-config not in menu, but from command line ? armbian-config --help gives some examples, but not for this case. And more generic question -- when I "burn" microSD image, first boot comes with questions about root password, new user, etc. Is there a way to do it in unattended mode ? E.g. with ansible. Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi, since I upgraded my debian-based Armbian installations from 21.08.x to 22.02.1 the DISTRIBUTION_CODENAME variable is empty in the MOTD. It seems this error is in file https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/packages/bsp/common/etc/update-motd.d/10-armbian-header since commit https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/3378/commits/1c71761973858c2bea16074075ef74157c2a960b. It tries to read the DISTRIBUTION_CODENAME from /etc/lsb-release, which is non-existent on debian-based Armbian. So I propose to read the variable from /etc/os-release instead, which is existent on Ubuntu AND Debian: --- /etc/update-motd.d/10-a…

Hello Armbian community, I recently purchased a Odroid N2+ board and am trying different OS. I flashed Armbian_22.08.1_Odroidn2_jammy_current_5.10.139.img.xz on eMMC card. The first boot up works fine. I was prompted to set root password, new user credential and locals without any issue. I then used 'armbian-config' to navigate the different settings. In the system security menu, I applied the firmware update (that's what the menu called), I assume it runs apt update && apt upgrade. After completion, it prompts me to reboot. So I did. Then the Armbian cannot boot up anymore. I am using Odroid N2+ headless, so I can only see the board blue led not flashi…

Hello, I'm trying to get a new board working using Armbian. I'm currently working from my GIT repo so I cloned armbian/build and u-boot/u-boot I added them to the compile.sh script by using userpatches/lib.conf overrides. I added the DTS file of the board, defconfig and modified the Makefile as it can be seen on this commit On the board config side, I set: BOOTCONFIG="fly_gemini_defconfig" The image is built successfully but the board doesn't boot because the DTB file isn't present in /boot/dtb/allwinner/sun50i-h5-fly-gemini.dtb I looked in output/debug files but I didn't found any error What did I miss ? …

Hi there, I have a working armbian jammy on my odroid c2, but I'm unable to get SPI to work. On H3, this can be done by editing script.bin That file has been replaced by Device Tree on H5 board, /boot/orangepi/OrangePiH5orangepi.dtb However, many have reported that editing that file can not enable RCA, see https://github.com/OrangePiLibra/OrangePi_H5SDK/issues/7 So what should I do to enable it? Hi, I have "ARMBIAN Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) 4.6.5-sunxi" running on a BananPi R1 router. I used to have it set up such that while it booted off the SD card, it had its root FS on an SSD. Some time ago, I had to re-install as an upgrade went fatally wrong and now I cannot remember the exact steps to switch from the SD card to the SSD as the root FS. I changed the root= in /boot/boot.cmd and generated the /boot/boot-scr and also changed the /etc/fstab entry but findmnt -n -o SOURCE / still shows "/dev/mmcblk0p1". Can anyone tell me the steps to take in switching to a new root FS? Thanks and ... stay healthy! Josef

a Few days ago I started noticing strange behavior with calls failing and pods with valid imag tags not working and finally figured out what seems like armbian stopped trusting any certificates. When I apt update I get errors (certificate something something) When I curl google.com it says invalid certificate and have to use --insecure for it to work. I've run update ca-certifactes -f to try and force it to trust them again but no real idea of what is wrong here.

Hi, I'm trying to work with the CedarX/Cedrus Video Engine (on Allwinner A20). It works smoothly with my patched FFmpeg; for example: ffmpeg -f v4l2 -r 30 -pix_fmt nv12 -video_size 1280x720 -i /dev/video0 -vcodec cedrus264 -pix_fmt nv12 -qp 15 -f rtsp -rtsp_transport tcp rtsp://192.168.10.11/live/test I need to use pixel format RGB24, but as far as I understand, I'm limited to work with NV12 (or NV16) pixel format. Does this limitation is due to: My FFmpeg patch (I think not...) CedarX/Cedrus driver implementation. Hardware limitation. Thanks for the help, Joseph

I run ARMBIAN 5.38 stable Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 4.14.18-sunxi on an Orange Pi Zero. Cron and its timezone are causing me problems: it's initially one hour out - all root crons run an hour early. If I run dpkg-reconfigure tzdata and set the correct region/place, cron then runs correctly until the next reboot. I can see no difference between the localtime and timezone files before and after the reconfigure (strangely, the localtime link is replaced by a file following a reconfigure - this is different from my other Armbian machines). I can work around the problem as follows: following a start/reboot I then restart the cron serv…

I'm running the latest 5.10.21-sunxi kernel. I figured out how to use the PWM pin with the help of this post. I have an LED connected to the PWM pin and when I run for example: sudo sh -c "echo 250 > /sys/class/pwm/pwmchip0/pwm0/duty_cycle" the LED updates instantly. But when I try to fade the LED with a script, the LED always takes 6 seconds to update. This is the script: #!/bin/bash #Export PWM channel for user control. sh -c "echo 0 > /sys/class/pwm/pwmchip0/export" #Select the period of PWM signal. Value is in nanoseconds. sh -c "echo 500 > /sys/class/pwm/pwmchip0/pwm0/period" #Change the polarity of the PWM signal. #The …

Hello, I'm a novice Armbian user (I deployed a number of $8 Rockchip 3328 SBCs as security monitors which for the last few months have been working just fine). I am trying to setup my Odroid-XU4 with Armbian 20.05.2 booting from MMC and no SDCard in slot. It took me a while but finally I found what I needed. Next I've installed OpenMediaVault using armbian-config, that worked well. Within OMV I've tried to setup VLANs which I could define but they didn't work, so I had to take a deeper look into it. I've found that the interface name needed to be reverted back to eth0 since the new naming convention enx<MAC-address without ":"> uses the max available number of characters already: In my case "enx001e06320261" , so if you add a vlan "enx001e06320261.1" the name is to long, it will not start. This could be so…

Hello everyone, I have a question. It is about SSD memory, which can be connected to the usb3 interface via a converterbox SATA 1,2,3 to the OrangePi3 device. I did not find any helpful information in the hardware recommendations inside the Arbian Forum for OrangePi3 H6 all winner (looser). Before I jump into the cold water like with my RPI 4b+, I am interested in which SATA 1,2,3 adapter to SSD to USB3 works with the OrangePi3 devices. I already know that the NVME slot and memory is not supported. And a usb3 converter with SSD additionally absorbs power. Thanks for Help

OrangePi Zero headless server Debian Buster with Armbian Linux 4.19.62-sunxi armbianmonitor http://ix.io/26Dp Selected to install Sonarr in armbian-config which completes without error, but armbian-config does not indicate that Sonarr is now installed (i.e., I can still select it and do the whole thing again). Appears that armbian-config installs Sonarr as a service, but it doesn't appear to be running after I reboot (http://192.168.1.99:8989 gives error connection refused). Looks like Sonarr relies on mono, but mono has not been installed at /usr/bin/mono. Did I fail to do some required post-armbian-config steps?

When using Armbian on my Orange Pi 5b, I can't select 120hz when the resolution is 4k but I can when it's set to 1080p. In other distros like Joshua Riek's Ubuntu and the official Orange Pi 5 Ubuntu release, 120 hz is selectable in 4k and works wonderfully. Is there something I'm missing somewhere? Is there something I can do to manually enable this somewhere? This distro checks all the boxes for me otherwise. Using 120 hz makes a massive difference when streaming games from my desktop to my living room TV using Sunshine/Moonlight.

a while back I created my own Armbian environment for the Orange PI Pc that uses Xstart to run a custom .exe I created. the Program uses Uart to communicate with an external Pic chip. the program has been running well and have not had any problems with it. I created a .img of the environment and have been disabusing copies. however recently ( about 2 months after ) I have been told that some of them have been crashing and digging into it I noticed is was Uart communication failing. A temporary solution has been replacing the SD card with a new one but this does not fix the issue of this happening in the first place. I have attached the Uboot of both the failing program an…

Hi, I want turn off lan lights like I can do on Banana Pi, see bpi_ledset link below: https://github.com/n1tehawk/bpi_ledset I have couple of these boards turned on and it is like live in Las Vegas when it is night. And second reason why I do not need these lights is I see network activity on switch, I do not need to see duplicity information on board and switch together. Is is possible to turn lan leds on Orange Pi boards?

Hello. I purchased A33-OLinuXino board(Olimex Lime A33) and display module LCD-OLinuXino-10 for this board. (I correctly connected the display to the board according to the scheme). On the microsd card, i installed the prebuild image: Armbian_5.65_Olinuxino-a33_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.10.img downloaded from this ftp://staging.olimex.com/Allwinner_Images/A33-OLinuXino/ server. The system boots up normally and starts the terminal via UART, but the image does not appear on the display. How do I configure the system to make the display work.

Hi So I installed the minimal IOT version on the eMMC and I am struggling with it as on login, the temperature is at already 73C then ends up having a forced shutdown after like 5 minutes. I don't see why this is happening as it's literally doing nothing on the command line. Any ideas on how to fix this? I was expecting this to idle around 30s, not reach 90 in an air conditioned room. Thanks.

I was trying to help a student download new C4 images and he gets 'Download Error.' Confirmed at my place - Twice I got 'Unable to download file securely' message but mostly 'Download Failed' on direct download. Didn't try all boards but several have same issue. Chrome on Linux x86 (Mint) and XU4 armbian. HTTP vs HTTPS on direct download? Didn't try the torrent downloads. Torrents work fine. Sorry if I put this in the wrong forum :] Edit: if I hit 'Keep' it still shows download error.

Hello, I'm trying to enable I2C access in U-Boot, for orange PI zero. I've downloaded the Armbian build, and tried to compile with CREATE_PATCHES, exactly like the tutorial here: https://zuckerbude.org/armbian-using-create-patches/ However, the build never stops and waits for me to make changes. I've attached the build log. I *think* I just need to add the following lines to orangepi_zero_defconfig: CONFIG_I2C0_ENABLE=y CONFIG_I2C1_ENABLE=y I guess that would be my next question- is this the proper way to change this config is via CREATE_PATCHES? I tried just changing the defconfig file and re-running c…

I have Armbian up and running on a Rock Pi S with a PoE HAT. To enable the audio jack on the PoE HAT I had to run the following commands as mentioned on the official Rock Pi S PoE Hat wiki. # echo 15 > /sys/class/gpio/export # echo out > /sys/class/gpio/gpio15/direction # echo 1 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio15/value Once enabled, the audio works as needed. However, every time the device is rebooted I have to SSH in and run these commands again to re-enable audio out which is obviously not ideal. How can I persist these changes between reboots?

I maen what packages should i place in placeholder to prevent upgrade. echo "<package> hold" | sudo dpkg --set-selections Thanks in advance.

Hey there fellow Pi enthusiasts! I am absolutely thrilled to have just gotten my hands on the Orange Pi 5, but being new to the world of Pi's and small chips, I was a bit intimidated. However, after exploring this forum, I must say that I am impressed with the amazing work you all have done with the software! After successfully installing it to my SSD, updating and upgrading it, and enabling 3D acceleration with the commands provided, I thought I was good to go. But something still seems off to me - the graphics just don't seem to be as fast as I thought they woul…

I am looking to build a stable applicance that is updateable on demand / over-the-air in an atomic way. Ideally, it uses a dual-partition setup, where the is an active rootfs and an inactive one. On update, a new rootfs is streamed directly to the inactive partition, the device reboots to the new rootfs and - if everything runs according to plan - the new rootfs is committed as the new active one. If the reboot fails, the device reverts to the previous (still active) rootfs. This functionality is very common with embedded devices, many using the Yocto project. I'd like to try to use Armbian, however, building the image from source with my own userpatches and i…

I try to use the pwm from GPIO to PWM control a fan. I would need around 20kHz with a variable duty cycle. As far as I understand I need to activate the pwm overlay, but its only available for the h5. Can I change the UART or I2C overlay to achieve this or should I try to write my own overlay? Is that even doable?

Using my Orange Pi Zero 512 H2 I want wo build a POE-powered display, displaying the current time, time until the bus leaves and ideally some information on bus schedules I can pull from the API of the local bus network. What I currently have is an Orange Pi Zero 512 H2 and a POE injector where I can insert any voltage as it does not run with standard POE voltage. My plan is to buy this e-paper display https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/7.5inch_e-Paper_HAT_(B) and have the Orange Pi display a simple HTML page. So my first question is: Would this display run, would it be a good choice for my setup? Are there any similar projects (yes, I searched) that…

It seems my OrangePi Prime was loosing stability over the years. It was working fine initially, then it was hanging up from time to time - and now it no longer can boot on stock armbian settings. It bootloops on "Starting kernel ..." in serial console. But when I set voltage to 1.3v in armbianEnv.txt - it booted ok. So it seems to be a hardware issue. Does anyone know if there is CPU VDD test point somewhere, or which regulator is responsible for CPU voltage?

Something is overwriting /boot/armbianEnv.txt every now and then. Is it a feature or a bug ? Which other files are affected ? Two OrangePi Lite have the same symptom I am building a startup script to rewrite the file, if it has been corrupted until there gets a better solution.

Hi, My Nanopi M4V2 runs perfectly on Buster. The Nanopi runs stable and I don't have any issues for my use-case. It runs 24/7 and is only accessible through Wireguard. On the website from Debian it says that there are no security updates anymore for Buster. Does this also apply to the Armbian version? Of could I just keep running Buster if I keep kernel and software up-to-date? https://www.debian.org/releases/buster/ Thanks for the help, Lennyz
