I rebooted from the 6.6.16-current-sunxi kernel to the 6.7.4-edge-sunxi on my Orange Pi +2E and it couldn't mount some partitions from a USB stick. These use LVM2, and each partition is encrypted using LUKS2 with a keyfile stored in /etc (yes, I know this is a fig leaf encryption, but it prevents someone from grabbing the USB stick and getting the contents of the drive). This works fine with the older kernel, but fails with the newer kernel. I use the exact same setup on a Rock 64 board, and it works fine, on the 6.7.4-edge-rockchip64 kernel.

I actually did a search on the forum for these and found nothing, so now I'm asking for the help. Of coarse it could be I didn't know what I was looking at or understood it. I'm running a Cubie 2 with the desktop Armdian 1. Unable to copy and paste from or to termal 2. unable to add user (I did install lightdm) or go to a login screen 3. Unable to get the audio to go to the HDMI port so it will play thru the TV/Monitor 4 No package manager, is it possible to install one? I tried an apt-get install synaptic and got no where. 5. Unable to install ElectricSheep or the Xscreensaver (got partway in installing xsreensaver) Thanks Dave C

Always running latest Armbian Buster: Since some months multiple machines with totally different application sets get slow writing to ANY mounted volume after one or more weeks of uptime (the busier the earlier). According to top IOWAIT exceeds user/kernel cpu usage. All applications and networking incl. disk reads run without any problem, until they write to the disk which makes them crawl. Even cp on a small file hangs. Any hint?

Hi, I want to make my orange pi 3 lts work in a similar way to the way Wifi manager works on esp8266 projects The idea being that if there is not a valid Wifi connection found then an AP is activated so a user can connect to a captive portal and enter the wifi ssid and password anc click connect. the pi then reboots and tries to connect. if that is successful then it works as normal if it is not then it reactivates the AP. I found various different partial solutions but none of which seem to work well with my setup. this might be either due to the orange pi or Armbian. The most promising i ahve foudn so far is https://github.com/b…

Hi all! Sorry about my English. I just started learning Armbian. Please don't scold me for my ignorance. I have an Orange Pi 3-lts. I installed an "Armbian_23.02.2_Orangepi3-lts_bullseye_current_5.15.93" OS on it. Transferred everything to EMMC. Installed Clipper. I started experimenting with the rotation of the display. (everything seems to have turned out as I wanted!) But damn! Wanted more! I wanted the startup process log to not be displayed on the screen when the OS was started. I read somewhere on the Internet: change in armbianenv.txt console = botn on console = serial. I listened and changed. And now I can't manage my OPI. I can't connect via terminal b…

Hi, I wanted to install Armbian to my old Asus eee PC. So I made live USB containing the .iso and boot from there. I can login as root fine, but when running armbian-install, I only see the option of installing to sdb (my USB drive), but not to my sda (the laptop local drive). I am not sure what's the problem. Do I have to do something to the partition in sda? Currently Alpine Linux is installed in the local drive. Previous installation was Lubuntu (14, I think?). I want to run pi-hole and there are not many supported OSes for pi-hole that still support x86, so I would like to make it work. Armbian version: Armbian 25.5.1 Bookworm Minimal

Hello, I have a 7 in lcd touchscreen that I would like to use with my 'le potato' board. I have begun using Armbian Le Potato Debian Stretch. I would like to get this working and would explore many options but when it breaks down i have: utilized putty to ssh into my 'le potato' with ethernet on my main router and typed in fbset to reveal... putty ssh screenshot I was curious about other possible options in Armbian like utilizing a config file or converting a .bin file to fex and changing the values. However, I have had no luck in utilizing an hdmi touchscreen besides maintaining usb power and flickering. Would anyone have a method of touchs…

Hello, i was trying to connect sensors via i2c, and neither wiringPi.h nor i2c-dev.h are comiting Read/Write comands. The file descriptor is given a value, so i think the connection worked, but functions like : i2c_smbus_read_byte_data(FILEDESCRIPTOR, (u_int8_t)REGISTERADRESS) just pop errors. Do you guys have any idea? Thanks for any help! edit: i have also included /linux/i2c.h and the function error persists. "I2C_SMBUS_READ_BYTE_DATA was not declared in this scope"

I am a Linux-Newbee myself but in the DOS/Windows-world I was programmer and admin. But my friend is a total user-only (he is physiotherapist an GOOD in that) so I ended up being his computerman. We both have the rockPi 4 A (no WLAN) with Armbian XFCE. He also has some pad with Android. Everything was good for about a year. He is using Telegram a lot. On the pad he had several messages about a Telegram update, one click, done. On the RockPi with Armbian instead he had messages about using an outdated version of Telegram which soon will cease functioning. No Updates offered. He installed Telegram new which worked, but after a restart he had the old versio…

Hello, as i didn't found a perfect UI for my cubie and me and i always liked the look and feel of crunchbang, i developed a little script in the past to bring #! to my cubietruck. It should also work on every other debian based image, but i mainly targeted igor's image since it seemed to be the best base to start from. NOTICE: crunchbang has EOL-status, no updates coming from them! I mainly use it even though, because its very fast and stable on my cubie. This script could be injected into building process or can be run on a fresh 'install'. Just use the get_crunchy.sh script and relax or download the image from second post. It's tested on debian jessie and wheezy…

In the latest image for NanoPi M1 Plus, I enable the analog audio I/O on the card by adding overlays=analog-codec in /boot/armbianEnv.txt But the microphone on the card is disabled by default, because the ALSA control "Mic1 Playback Switch" is set to false by default on the card. Worse still, this mixer control does not appear in the alsamixer GUI, and the only way to set to true is to use the amixer command line utility, for example with: amixer cset name="Mixer Capture Switch" on on I can do this inside a first boot script, and then ALSA will persist the state between reboots. But does not seem ideal, and took me a very long time to …

Hi, I have a cubietruck 3 with a Debian "Buster". I am looking to connect to the MySQL server to reach an outside database. Everywhere, it is said to comment out the line containing "bind-address = 172.0.0.1". This is done and the server listens on all ports. I still can't reach it, there must be something else to do but the tutorials don't say it. Thanks

Hi guys! I need to run some game on full screen, and they are old school windows one. the thing is that adding the modeline worked perfectly fine on rpi4, not on armbian sadly. it seems to change the resolution and then it go "out of signal". I used the same parametes than on rpi4. also generated new ones just in case. the thing is I cant make it to work and maybe iut's something deep into armbian. exaple: xrandr --newmode "640x480_60.00" 23.75 640 664 720 800 480 483 487 500 -hsync +vsync xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 640x480_60.00

Hi all, I have a Rock64 running on the "official" image (at the time, according to the official Pine64 documentation) "Armbian Ubuntu Bionic XFCE Desktop". Recently I updated it but suddenly it stopped working. After rebooting, all the 3 LEDs were lit, ON all the time and that was about it. I thought it was some kind of SD card corruption because it couldn't load some files from the SD card after the update and before rebooting. The only thing that came to mind to fix this was to restore a backup I had from Dec 2020. So I restored it and it worked again! But guess what... after updating the 280 packages that had an update, it stopped working again. But this time it w…

Hello all. I'm obviously a newbie to this all and have a Libre Le Potato I just purchased. Put in Armbian Bullseye and got everything configured so my Python script runs on boot and writes the data it records by sending a byte string through the USB port to a device and records the parsed response. All is well there, but I needed to add an RTC to this and I have many DS3231 boards that I've integrated with Arduino boards recently and they all work well. I've soldered the connections to the 3.3V, GND, SDA, and SCK pins and matched those to the GPIO pins 1, 9, 3, and 5 respectively. I've gone into 'armbian-config' and enabled…

Hi! Have limited knowledge in linux, all self learned so bear with me if I sometimes sound like an i**ot in my wording. Hi. Armbian 21.02.1 / 5.15.74-sunxi (22.08.6 SMP) / Debian 11.5 is working flawlessly on my cubietruck for several days, and then just hangs. I've studied the armbian-hardware-monitor.log, systemlog, run a 2-minute periodic cron to watch the temperature, and even added a serial comsole in an attempt to find out what might be the cause. I have not seen any weird indications in these logs. Temperature stays between 37 and 45 degrees. When the system hangs, there are no error messages on the consoles or via the serial comm. Pings are unresponded then, and magic sysrq won't work then. Armbian is run on a sata harddisk, there are some harddisks attached via an USB hub too but …

Hi, recently downloaded image for may odroid hc4. There was big sign with 23.5 version so i used this. Everything went fine. Set up lamp nextcloud server but then i wanted to set firewall with geoblock(xt_geoip) but can't go through basic steps. On my old version it workerd. With some addition steps but did. Problem is with linux headers. I found out there is some weird "desync" with packages versioning? I downloaded image for 23.5 and repo seems to be on 23.2. Linux kernel on fresh image is 6.1.30 and in repo is 6.1.11. Even armbian-config is installing headers for 6.1.11 and can't compile my stuffs. I just wanted to downgrade kernel to 6.1.11, but i think it …

Hello, I got a Orange Pi One H3 based board with the usual 512MB DDR3 ram and never used it much but lately I'm trying to use it as an everyday home computer, so I'm trying to push the hardware as much as possible to benefit from any features. I actually have installed latest armbian v5.9.x kernel o.s. with Buster distribution and with some zram usage it's quite acceptable on the speed side. I had to add an heatsink on the SoC cause after latest mainline kernel temperature it seems to get close easier to 80°C degrees and even if I suppose it might work even at these temps, I think it was better to lower it down a bit (probably 5° to 10°C degrees). No overclocki…

I installed it on an eMMC card which I had tested using f3read and f3write earlier (those tests worked). I reset the root password and added a user with sudo privileges. I also did an apt-get update/upgrade and installed openvpn (the openVPN service that I use seemed to be working as with my laptops). I didn't tinker much more and shut Armbian down. I'm familiar with ARMbian on Orange PI 3, more specifically I'm trying to master programming in C on this system and hw. Since yesterday I've been searching in vain for some description, ideally with examples of how to control GPIO, I2C and SPI in C. Can you advise?

Hello everyone. I've upgraded my Cubietruck from Xenial to Noble Ubuntu using supplied image on https://www.armbian.com/cubietruck/ . For any one interested in software defined radio the OrangePi.pc and Armbian 5.05 software is a killer combination. The extra horsepower of the Allwinner H3 quad core and the clean Armbian Linux implementation give you a great platform for Software defined Radio. The $10 low cost RTL2838 dongle has an enormous amount to offer. But plugging it into a big computer laptop is not always practical It is often better to put the RTL2838 dongle as close to the antenna as possible. This could mean a long USB cable and voltage drop issues. So now you can buy a $9.99 Orange Pi.one and use it as a RTL to ethernet/ opt.wifi extender. You "just" Plug the RTL2838…

I use this method and it works like a charm: void setup(){ pinMode(0,INPUT); pinMode(1,INPUT); } void loop(){ } Just upload this code, and connect GND to GND, TX to RX and RX to TX, then connect your Arduino to your computer, it will get a name like COM3, connect that com port, and you're in! You can also use PuTTY for connecting to the com port. Spoiler

Hi All, as I just started with armbian on one of my R2s and I would like to share my learnings.... 1. Learning build own Image Why?: One of my requirements is to have DRBD Support which seems not to be part of standard build. At least it was gone with one of the Kernel Updates. So I setup a VM as described here: https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/ to build a Image that supports DRBD. That was really simple. Build took 81min for me... Image Size 864MB Next goals are to bring this image running on the R2 on the eMMC. This worked with armbian-config After moving to eMMC Reboot issue is visible... Adapt hostname, local…

Rock64. Running mosquitto. Running my python script for home automation, measures temps, does a bit of control and uses an SIM900 for SMS outside access with no IP address issues. I've run this for ages with an Rpi doing mosquitto and an ESP8266 doing the SMS part. I tried using the RPi for everything but it can't keep up with the 19200b SIM900. The Rock64 does it beautifully. So, all works beautifully but for pulsing the SIM900 to power it up. I have R64.GPIO which works only if I sudo into idle or python. Otherwise I get the dreaded "cannot export GPIO". So close, so far. My eyes and the lcd are dim from searching for an answer. Tryin…

Hi, this is a problem that has persisted on my Orange Pi H2+ Board (running Armbian) for quite some time now. At one stage I thought I had resolved the issue, but now since an update to some unrelated software, said software no longer works. I have tracked this back to the locale settings, which, for all intents and purposes, don't exist. I have tried a variety of fixes, such as trying to set Locale using the armbian-config , but Locale remains adamantly blank. I can SSH into the board (which is where I ran the arm config program, as well as the following commands). I tried dpkg-reconfigure locales but I only get told the following: pe…

If you're getting poor/bad audio performance from an audio VST on the N2+, it can sometimes be the context switching between the BIG.little ARM cores. In my case, Pianoteq was giving me a lot of x-runs and wide fluctuations in performance when it switched between the 2x low-performance and 4x high-performance cores. One way to get more stable performance is to assign the application to the 4x high-performance cores like this. taskset -c 2,3,4,5 'Pianoteq 7' On the N2+ the 2x low-performance are numbered 0 and 1. The 4x high-performance cores are 2,3,4,5. 'Pianoteq 7 STAGE' is the name of the application being assigned. This is more useful …

Hi. I have my orange PI OPT 3 LTS running Ubuntu.. The system is installed in /dev/mmcblk0 (I believe that's the SD card?), and I just checked with gparted that it still has the Android it came with on /dev/mmcblk2 (I believe that's the internal memory?) Anyway, I would like to move Ubuntu to the external USB HDD I added. I created a /dev/sdb2 for it in ext4. I launched nand-sata-install a few times, but I'm afraid of picking the wrong options.. Which options should I pick to ensure that it does not destroy my Ubuntu installation in the process? Many thanks, -t

Hello, Armbian community, I've been trying to build the Armbian kernel for my board "Orange Pi 5" with the rbd (RADOS Block Device) module enabled. I followed the standard build procedure using Armbian's build tools, and I explicitly enabled the rbd support during the menuconfig step. When I attempt to load the module with modprobe rbd, I get the following error: modprobe: FATAL: Module rbd not found in directory /lib/modules/5.10.160-rk35xx Here are the steps I followed: 1. So I was trying to compile a wifi driver for a somewhat new usb wifi device and it breaks during compilation because it expects a directory named /usr/src/<linux-headers>/arch/aarch64 but on NanoPi NEO3 the directory is named (on NanoPI R4S is the same case btw) /usr/src/<linux-headers>/arch/arm64 In order to make it work, I created a symlink under the "arch" directory called "aarch64" pointing to "arm64" and I was able to compile it. Here is what happens when I try to compile it without the symlink: pablo@callampa:~/repos/github.com/morrownr/rtl8852cu-20240510$ make clean cd phl ; rm -fr */*/*/*/*.mod.c */*/*/*/*.mod */*/*/*…

I've started playing around with gpio, and thus far I don't have problems with any of the following: Access via the WiringOP C or Python bindings Access via /sys/class/gpio_sw However I can't seem to get the access via /sys/class/gpio to work. According to http://linux-sunxi.org/GPIOI need to write the pin number as defined in the fex file to /sys/class/gpio/export for 3.4 kernel (mainline kernel codes the pin number). For WiringOP pin #1 (physical pin #12 on the header), this is PD14, which is gpio_pin_5 according to the fex file, however the following does not light an LED connected to the pin: # echo "5" >/sys/class/gpio/export # echo "out" >/sys/class…

I have a NanoPi R2S Plus. If I boot the FriendlyElec Debian image both network ports work: LAN and WAN. If I boot the Armbian NanoPi R2S image, it boots OK and the LAN port works but the WAN port does not work. I believe the WAN port does not work because the NanoPi R2S has an RTL8211E chip but the NanoPi R2S Plus has an RTL8211F chip. I found some notes about problems with network on other boards that had the same change of chip (e.g. radxa RockpiE) and the device tree changes required to accommodate the new chip. So I tried to patch armbian/build to make the same changes for the NanoPi R2S Plus. I am not familiar with armbian/build or…

Trying to reach a headless TinkerBoard with X2Go so I can set up wifi. SELinux is disabled. I can SSH in as my user just fine, with and without -i, but when setting the Pyhoca session to "Discover SSH Keys", I get "Not a valid EC private key file!" First time trying Armbian on my N2. I know N2 is very picky with HDMI cables, I tried a bunch of HDMI cables and couldn't make it work thru any my HDMI switches(1080p). My Samsung TV is a 65inch 4k capable of handling 1080p resolutions with my other arm64 devices(C4, Rpi4, Rockpro64 and N2+) without any issues. Unfortunately, despite of setting resolution to 1080p60(setenv hdmimode "1080p60hz"), disabling auto detection(setenv display_autodetect "false") and setting HDP=true(setenv disablehpd "true") on boot.ini, it keeps ignoring these settings.
