I have an Odroid N2 connected to my TV via HDMI, 1920x1080. This works with the Ubuntu 18.04 Mate OS. In order to not block my TV for hours making it useless to my family, I would like to use my PC monitor instead (DVI/VGA, resolution 1680x1050). There are two entries in the file boot.ini regarding the resolution and interface. Currently it is set to the default (1920x1080, HDMI). Is it required to change both values to 1680x1050 and DVI or is it just sufficient to change the resolution ? Of course, I'll loose the sound. The result, however, is a headless server running a Nextcloud instance at home, so sound doe…

Hey guys! Cheap Android tablets based on allwinner chipsets were pretty common back in 2012. Recently I found an tablet equipted with an Allwinner A10 SoC (LY-F1) lying lonely around on my fathers desk. He bought that tablet back then because of the cheap price, but never really used it. Luckily my father also saved an Android 4.0.4 ROM he downloaded from the suppliers website back then, because all websites of this supplier are offline now. After playing around with my OPiZ and seeing how well the sunxi/armbian kernel works, I thounght myself i should try to boot linux from this tablet. At first I tried to pack an image that can be directly writte…

Hi, I have installed Ubuntu Jammy on my Orange pi 5 plus board a while ago, I was wondering if I could upgrade to the new Noble release of armbian for OPI5 plus without having to reinstall the whole image and without breaking the system, I upgraded the kernel to the latest version with no issues, I just wanted to know the correct and safest way of upgrading the Noble release of Armbian. Thank you in advance.

Hello, I have questions related with overlay. I'm using Radxa Zero 3W and in the /boot/armbianEnv.txt it has overlay_prefix=rk35xx. I want to use this overlay /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/radxa-zero3-disabled-wireless.dtbo. If I cat /boot/boot.cmd it read the overlays with this line ${overlay_prefix}-${overlay_file}.dtbo. It means if I add overlays=disabled-wireless in /boot/armbianEnv.txt, it will not find the dtbo right? So my questions are, 1. Can I manually edit the overlay_prefix to radxa-zero3? 2. If can then will that has impact on the feature, eg kernel upgrade or anything?

I have 1 Armbian installed in the SBC. I want to login but I don't have any idea what is the root password. I saw there are few methods of breaking it and can bypass / reset password. Hello, I am talking strictly about GPIO's value and mode at reset. Under "sudo gpio readall" of H3 core (OPI Lite) I can see that ALL GPIO pins are 0V with different alternative mode functions. Under H3 core (OPI Lite) datasheet 1.2 says that value PC3 and PC4 GPIOs are pulled up? This are in contradiction! Did anyone measured the H3 core GPIOs value? Does H3 core has any pin of pulled-up mode during the reset time of the controller? Please help.

Hello folks, I plan to build a power bank or a ups for my Orange Pi Pc H3. Here is the log dump for more info: http://ix.io/2kMo I have been using my Pi PC as a full fledged desktop thanks to all you Armbian contributers. We have occassional power outages and to counter the issue I'm planning to build an alternate power source. After some online search I found that some of the IOT boards support usb power banks as a power supply, hence would like to know if Pi PC H3 supports this feature or can be programmed? Another option is to use a MoPi board, not sure if Pi PC H3 supports the board. https://pi.gate.ac.uk/pa…

Apologies, the links on how to change the Armbian boot kernel don't lead to any documentation. I am wading through the u-boot documentation tree now, but somebody may have an answer to a simple question. I manage to make my device unbootable by using armbian-config and selecting a development kernel vmlinuz-4.20.0-rockchip64 I have mounted the disk on a ubuntu laptop and I take it u-boot is similar to grub2 in that its not just a case of changing the symlinks Image -> vmlinuz-4.4.167-rockchip64 Uinitrd -> uInitrd-4.4.167-rockchip64 you have to do a grub2-mkconfig command \ grub-update in order to boot strap t…

If somebody has a chance to test new firmware blob for XR819 feedback would be appreciated Simply grab the code { font-family: Consolas,"courier new"; color: crimson; background-color: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.2); padding: 2px; font-size: 105%; } fw_xr819.bin from the PR below, replace your current one and reboot. Check if Wi-Fi still works as expected or ideally even better. I found relatively little information concerning AXP209 support on mainline. My targets : - set the battery as 4.35V instead of 4.2V. Datasheet say it's set in REG 33H. Defaut value for register : 0xCX, X being the charge current. if 1200mAh then default value is 0xC9. To change from 4.2 to 4.35V, use EXh (so E9h if you'r using 1200mA) 11001001 to 11101001.) - Remove boot when AC plugged in and boot only when PEK is pressed. Datasheet say it's possible is not clear about how to do it. It may be reg40 bit6. I could not test yet as REG40 strangely reads 0x00 with i2cget. - Set GPIO0 and GPIO1 as ADC. GPIO0 function is REG 90H (see page 40 datasheet). GPIO1…

Hi, I am using Nano Pi Duo2 (Allwinner H3) with latest Armbian OS. My goal is to have all the OS and Data on SD Card Encrypted. It should be secure from hacks. In Developer Guide, LUKS encrypted rootfs needs a key to unlock. In our case we want the device to unlock itself so key has to be stored on the Allwinner H3 securely. Has anybody implemented it on Allwinner H3 ? Is there alternative solution to secure the data on the device.

I was using bananian for the last year(and I still do) on a M1 for a operational running webservice. Is it worth the time to switch to armbian? Are there any big differences? I want to switch the board sometime in the future; thats why I'm interested in the more flexible armbian in the first place. But right now I cant find a good alternative to the M1 for my use case.

Hey. I have a beer-brewing machine which has software running on an olimex A13-SOM board, that has a capacitive touch panel attached to it. The company (Brewie) did'nt survive, but I really like the machine, and the potential it has. The board is running a very slimmed down linux system, so it's a bit difficult to sniff stuff out, and expand on it - so I want to install a more recent linux system on it, and try making new software for it as a shared project with other people using this machine. I managed to make a functional image using github.com/olimex/build I'm building it using: ./compile.sh BRANCH=next BOARD=olimex-som-a13 KERNEL_ONLY=no KERNEL_C…

Hey guys and a happy new year! I am working on a custom H3 board and I just got the prototypes from the oven. I am now trying to boot armbian on them. And as it's first prototypes I expected problems but I have trouble figuring out. I think it's because of my lack of understanding the boot process. See picture of the board enclosed. It don't tell much but it's nice to have a visual I think. On top right is a battery manager/power input. Right under is AXP8036 that makes 4 buck channels (1.35V for ram, 1.2V sys, 1.3Vcpu and 3.3V) Most is similar with orange pi PC schematic, there is few changes : - crystal and wifi is sa…

Hey, I'm new to armbian/linux and want to use an Orange Pi Zero 2 as a cheap OctoPi alternative. Bare Octoprint is already working, but I don't get the MJPG-Streamer for my usb-webcam to run. Hello, I'm looking to replace my x86 micro tower with a SBC, to mainly use it as a NAS and media player. On the hardware side, I would like to have a native SATA port (for the NAS hard disk), HDMI output and H.265 decoding (media player), at least 4GB of RAM (to be somewhat future-proof). Bluetooth is a plus to play some retro games Not sure about the OS storage: SD card, eMMC, an hard disk on another SATA port? At the moment I found two boards: the Radxa Rock 3A (with its DIY SATA over USB cable) and Odroid HC4. Both are supported by Armbian, but maybe there is a more recent board that I didn't find? Thanks.

Hi there, Basically I am trying to change the wireless regulatory power for the Opi PC. I follow the instruction like in this link and it worked in Rpi: http://askubuntu.com/questions/597546/iwconfig-wlan0-txpower-30mw-not-working I modified the country of BO to 30 from db.txt so I get 30dbm signal for testing purpose. When I have done all the proceedure in Opi PC and reboot I try to type " iw reg set BO" ,nothing happened - it still stayed at 00 which is the default country set. It also appears that when I type "iwconfig wlan0 channel 13" it then changed the country to China. And by then I can change the country BO by typing the "iw reg set BO" again. When…

Hi guys! I understood yesterday that the Raspberry Pi 3 is limited to only 2-channel 16-bit PCM audio over HDMI by its ALSA driver. Therefore I'm now looking for another board capable of at least outputting 6x 24-bit LPCM 48 kHz channels. My goal is to build a software DSP, processing multi-channel audio recorded from an USB audio interface. The idea is to capture a home-cinema receiver pre-outs, mix and apply biquads for crossover with the sub and speaker tuning, then handle the clock difference between input and output. A couple threads mention difficulties with 24-bit audio, on legacy kernel and over I2S, where the user Christos observed issues. Do…

For any one interested in software defined radio the OrangePi.pc and Armbian 5.05 software is a killer combination. The extra horsepower of the Allwinner H3 quad core and the clean Armbian Linux implementation give you a great platform for Software defined Radio. The $10 low cost RTL2838 dongle has an enormous amount to offer. But plugging it into a big computer laptop is not always practical It is often better to put the RTL2838 dongle as close to the antenna as possible. This could mean a long USB cable and voltage drop issues. So now you can buy a $9.99 Orange Pi.one and use it as a RTL to ethernet/ opt.wifi extender. You "just" Plug the RTL2838…

I am wondering if anyone else has had any success getting Armbian installed on a Banana Pi M5. I'm definitely a noob at this. After thinking the first M5 I tried it on was perhaps defective, but after trying on a second M5 I had the same result, board will not boot and the Green, Blue and Red lights on the board are all solid (not blinking). I'm afraid I may have bricked both boards. I used bpi-copy to flash the on-board emmc and did not receive any errors in the process. I am unable to boot from emmc or sd card at this point. I tried flashing the SD Card with Debian Bullseye and then on another attempt Ubuntu server (both images had worked previously) but to no ava…

Hi. I am just wondering what the fastest time people have getting from plug in power to command prompt on something like the NanoPi M1 or Neo. I use one of mine as an command line mp3 player (mpg123) and pretty much that;s all it does apart form some gpio buttons. It does not use network. Are there any tips on speeding up boot so playback can commence faster? I have never build a version of Armbian, but I am willing to give it a try - would a custom version be much faster? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Are there any other images floating around that could demo a faster speed? J.

Hello, I have idea to make a product (based on SBC - Small Board Computer) and sell it on the market, but after searching many forums, websites, youtubes etc I am sure only for one: All what can work on that SBCs stable (I mean stable for production use, for customer product) is... lighting a LED connected to pins... Units could be connected, but it doesn't mean they will work when connected... Crazy. Let me explain more. My project needs a SBC with working camera and working communication (Bluetooth or …

I'm trying to get something beyond Android on a Jide Remix Mini. Originally sold as an "Android PC", it's now unsupported by manufacturer. The configuration is not bad: Allwinner A64 SOC and my unit has 2GB of RAM and 16 GB eMMC. Unfortunately, linux-sunxi lists it as (yet) unsupported. I'm not that knowledgeable with image building, so any help would be appreciated.

Hi, following the documentation, I used nand-sata-install to boot from SD, system on SATA / USBwithout any problems. My backup solution (raspiBackup.sh) now creates a 16GB image for the SD card, even if it is just used to boot. Is it possible to shrink the partition? Thank you René

Currently I have a Tinkerboard S and due to lack of USB WiFi support (Tinkerboard only has 2.4ghz, but 5ghz is necessary), I need another OS or SBC. Support for CSI camera is also required. I've installed Armbian on TinkerBoard and read a couple of threads on this forum. It looks like there is no CSI support for the Tinkerboard and there is no CSI camera support coming (couldn't get the camera to work on Armbian). The Rockchip on the Tinkerboard has the advantage of H264 encoding and very useful. There are other SBC boards with dual band and Rockchip (different Rockchip than the Tinkerboard), like the RockPi or the RockPro, but I can't really find out if the C…

There is a bug (not really a bug...) in the copy process with rsync. Please add the -x option to rsync to copy the root file system to a SATA/USB drive. I have cifs/nfs filesystem from my main (file) server mounted and the installation tries to copy alle the network-drives to the local SATA/USB drive. I was wondering, why the hell the armbian-config says 1020MB to copy (around 3 min.) and after 1 hour it still was running rsync! Yes, it tried to copy hundreds of GB to the local 60GB SATA/USB drive! And... the script removes all extra fstab entries, so all network filesystem mounts are gone! Please, correct this bug!

Quick question for the Banana Pro builds. I've tested with stable Armbian Bionic and Stretch. By default DHCP is disabled on eth0, so the following lines must be added to /etc/network/interfaces to get it to work: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp But, official docs (section Common features) state: Is having DHCP disabled for ethernet by default the expected behaviour for that board ?

Usually, when I configure SBC devices (in particular headless as the OPI Zero), what I do is to disable NetworkManager (even uninstalling it) and to provide a basic standard configuration on /etc/network/interfaces. However, I am noticing that the NetworkManager it is becoming more and more interleaved on the standard Linux configuration (as it is happening with systemd). In fact, my thought is that NetworkManager it is more a desktop thing than a server one. My question is: What is the right method to configure static servers, having unmovable IP addresses, routes and these types of things, with current and future Armbian releases? If it is nec…

Hey guys, one of my 2x OPI3 Allwinner H6 board wont boot from the micro SD card. That rather decrease me to a nowinner instead of an allwinner. But joking apart The red LED over the SD card is enlighted when all cables like keyboard, mouse, HDMI and ethernet are cable-connected. The red LED from the power is only a few seconds red and is switching to green, then the board boots to the pre installed Android.7 OS. The SD card will not be detected. When Android is up, there is a point called "local" at the bottom of the screen When I open "local" I can see "Local Memory" that possibly should be the SD card, Network Neighborhood (CIFS…

I am trying to setup my Odroid-XU4 with Armbian 20.05.2 booting from MMC and no SDCard in slot. It took me a while but finally I found what I needed. Next I've installed OpenMediaVault using armbian-config, that worked well. Within OMV I've tried to setup VLANs which I could define but they didn't work, so I had to take a deeper look into it. I've found that the interface name needed to be reverted back to eth0 since the new naming convention enx<MAC-address without ":"> uses the max available number of characters already: In my case "enx001e06320261" , so if you add a vlan "enx001e06320261.1" the name is to long, it will not start. This could be so…

I have compiled Armbian buster with Linux 5.4.32-rockchip64 with additional option in RTC clock and enabled DS1307. Hello everyone, I am trying to build a custom image of Armbian for the Radxa CM3, but I'm a little confused with how to proceed. I thought if I cloned the repo I could modify a similar board configuration file (such as rock-3a.conf) by renaming a copy as radxa-cm3.conf and changing BOOT_FDT_FILE to use my own device tree, but this is where I got lost. I'm not sure where to put the device tree in the cloned repo so that it gets used during the build process. I'm also not sure if I would need to change BOOTCONFIG as well, and if so where to find the file to modify. Any and all advice to point me in the right direction is appreciated! Thanks! …

Of the boards supported by Armbian, which do you prefer for multiple audio devices and audio related applications? I need to control two audio streams, in and out each and add information to the streams as appropriate. I would like to use as little external hardware as possible so stereo mic or dual mic input and stereo out would be awesome. I'm a little overwhelmed by the choices, so opinions are definitely welcome here.

Hello, I've been playing on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ with an I2S audio amplifier and could play music from it. Now I want to add more devices to experiment with multi-room systems. The only other system with I2S support I have here is a NanoPi NEO. It has dedicated I2S pins so that shouldn't be too complicated. I thought. But it doesn't work. 'aplay -l' says "no soundcards found" and 'speaker-test -c2' essentially says the same. 'armbian-config' doesn't have a switch to enable I2S, only SPDIF, which sounds plausible considering that the SPDIF pin is multipurpose while the I2S pins are not. A web search for several terms didn't bring up something useful.…

When I power down H3-devices I see quite different results. Normally I use 'sudo poweroff' which should behave like 'shutdown -P'. I guess the command was successfull when the last message on the serial console reads "Power down." This works with Legacy Images. Power consumption drops significantly. On the NEO and OPi Zero to somewhat 150 mW, NEO Air 250 mW. To my surprise the Orange Pi One drops even to 0 mW. Question 1: Why is that? Is it different voltage regulators, or are parts of some boards purposefully kept powered on? Testing Mainline Images things are more simple: I never even reach the "power down"-target, the sys…

Hello, I have an Odroid N2+ on Armbian 23.02 Bullseye. I wish to upgrade to Bookworm. Initially I expected to do the upgrade after the update to Armbian 23.05 via apt but I tend to think we will have directly 23.08 without 23.05 I won't ask for the date when we will have 23.05 but has someone upgraded to Bookworm with Armbian 23.05? I know this kind of upgrade is not officially supported but as I made it from Buster to Bullseye I have the same project for Bookworm. But I am not sure Bookworm and Armbian 23.05 are really compatible.

From time to time I want to change the SDcards on my boards, for one reason or another. So, in order to transfer the Armbian filesystem I dd from the first sdcard and later dd to the second, a very slow process. I think it would be faster to: Partition and mkfs the new sdcard Copy/tar/rsync the armbian filesystem But no board won't boot that sdcard. So I'm missing a crucial step, maybe it has something to do with u-boot?
