We are opening public testing for upcoming Armbian images. The goal is to verify that the right images are built and that basic functionality works before boards are moved to the main download pages. You don’t need to be a developer. Simple testing and short reports are enough. 1. Download testing images Testing images are available here: https://fi.mirror.armbian.de/incoming/igorpecovnik/ Pick the image matching your board and choose desktop if applicable. Once image is confirmed working, the board will be: Moved to the main download pages Added to Armbian Imager 2. Check that expected images exist Before testing, please ver…

Dear Igor, I'am trying to make an image with 3.19 kernel now for a while, but I couldn't make it work. It won't boot. A few weeks ago there was some problems with the patchings, so I tried to do it manually. But it lead me to the same result. Now I deleted everything, related to the image building, and started everything over again. I noticed that your building script has been updated. Now the patching errors disappeared, but I still get the same result, a non booting image. The error says, that "File not found /boot/.next" then "File not found /boot/zImage", "Unrecognized filesystem type", "Bad Linux ARM zImage magic!", ..... Picture from it here. I tried whe…

I have been trying to Build Armbian for a humming board under debian Stretch. As it will not build directly under Debian I tried building it in an Ubuntu 14.04 container. I encountered one problem with the most recent Armbian. I was building in /usr/src/amp/Armbian While Building linux the imx 6 sdma build failed as it was unable to access /usr/src/amp/source/.... This was clearly an error as the path should have been /usr/src/amp/Armbian/source/.... I was able to build by symbolic linking the source directory to /usr/src/amp. The build now completed However there were warnings Could not stat /dev/loop0p1 --- No such file or directory T…

Hi, I am working on H3 based Nano Pi Neo board. my task is to enable audio and kernel version is 4.4. I tested Armbian image, Audio is working fine(good) and capture working too. Enabled sun4i-codec.c (which has h3 support). I struck with major problem. I am unable to write AC registors(physical address: 1c22c00) but i can read them using readl. writel is not showing any effect on register. I enabled audio_pll, codec clock, bus codec gate registers and reset deasserted. I have cross-checked H3 datasheet for clock tree. Everything looks fine. why writel is not working?? any suggestion.?? help me. …

Hi, I'm trying to solve a problem here. I have a Pine64so board with LTE module plugged into the USB and a battery back up. With the battery drained to 0%, the board will not boot up with the LTE module plugged into the USB port even with a microUSB power supply, because LTE is drawing too much power. But with the battery slightly charged or the LTE module unplugged it boots up just fine. I know that USB power is enabled by the u-boot, because with the Armbian SD card ejected, when I plug in the microUSB power supply, the board doesn't automatically provide power to the USB port, and the battery charges by default. So I'm trying to figure out where in the uboo…

Hi all, I have Orange pi pc H3 , and I want to display a boot logo at uboot startup. the official ubuntu 16.04 image from orangepi website works except that there's console on hdmi in addition to the logo , and I don't want the console just the boot logo. so I cloned the official u-boot git and checked out v2020.07 and applied this patch : https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/patch/u-boot/u-boot-sunxi/remove-boot-messages-from-hdmi.patch.disabled and compiled u-boot, there's no hdmi output in uboot stage. I used menuconfig to enable the hdmi driver CONFIG_VIDEO_HDMI , the problem is it depends on !MACH_SUN8I , which means it's not sup…

Hello, guys, there are custom device tree overlays for some boards in armbian build framework, they are usually created by patches. The spi-spidev overlay for sun8i H3 has some additional parameters that can be set via armbianEnv.txt. My question is about "param_spidev_spi_bus" which is not actually working: is this possible to change the bus on the fly ? Thanks

Hi all, I'm using an online article to help get me started with DotNet core this one Article All works fine when I use a Raspberry Pi as my target host but on my Nanopi the executable file created by dotnet publish -t linux-arm is not found, in the article the author creates a console app from a Windows command line and then publishes it. He then copies all the files from the Windows *publish* folder to a Pi and the executable created by Windows runs on the Pi. If I do the same on my Nanopi I get a file not found error - racking my brains with this one as the file is definitely there. I can create apps directly on the Nano cli but it would be …

EDIT: After discussion with a few users, to avoid the issue of having this modification wiped out by a future DTB update and create the unfortunate scenario where the /boot/armbianEnv.txt requests to load a DTB which no longer exists, it's a lot simpler to overwrite the original DTB thus keeping the naming identical. If the DTB gets overwritten by an update then the reboot functionality may just revert to the no-reboot behavior until the fix is re-applied to the newer DTB. The problem lies in the SDCARD signals not being in the right state for a reboot. To solve this we will de-compile the DTB in /boot/dtb/amlogic/meson-gxbb-odroidc2.dtb to create a source ver…

Hi! I have a problem with my Orange Pi Lite 2 I tried to connect my device to my home WiFi. But the device does not see the wifi, at a distance of 10 centimeters. I try to launch commands: nmtui-connect *name to my WIFI* nmtui-connect for show all WiFi Network. But in neither case does the device manage to identify the network. I tried using: vim /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf I tried to edit the file and to insert the data of my network but nothing. Can anyone give me a hand to solve this problem? Thanks everyone in advance!

The "Edit Device" wordpress template ("https://www.armbian.com/wp-admin/...") has some input fields that I would like to understand. I am trying to complete it for the MKS-Klipad50 (https://www.armbian.com/mks-klipad50). (It's a CSC board, not standard support - if that matters.) Following fields are unclear to me: "Compatible" What is the meaning and expected syntax? Is that something like devices using the same kernel, but different setup/devicetree files? "Expose kernels" / "How many kernels to expose?" Is this related to the "Kernels" table (see below), like how many rows to use? …

Hi All, I have a requirement to boot a whole a20 system over USB as discussed in the link below. http://linux-sunxi.org/FEL/USBBoot#Boot_the_system_over_USB It requires U-Boot + kernel + initramfs to do this. Right now the only part that I succeed is booting on uboot, but not yet in kernel as well as initramfs (which is I dont have yet). I cant find a good tutorial how to do this. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I wanted to know if there was an easy way to customize an existing released image or rebuild a released image. I know you can use the customize image option when building, but I would like to not build the latest nightly, but instead just build whatever was released. The customization I am looking to do is installing additional packages, downloading some personal python code, setting timezone and other similar settings. I searched the forums, but didn't see anything helpful, any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I try build kernel for NanopiNeo board with user kernel patch, but I don't understand with path needed put my patch. In previous version armbian's builds I just put files to userpatches/kernel/sunxi-current how it described in docs. But now with current version Armbian build system it's not working. I put my custom linux-sunxi-current.config to userpatches folder, my patch to userpatches/kernel/sunxi-current and try build kernel with command: ./compile.sh BOARD=nanopineo BRANCH=current kernel I see that linux-sunxi-current.config found and applied but not patch isn't.

5.0x Lamobo R1 / Banana Pi M2 jessie next 4.4.3 As described in this thread http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/691-banana-pro-testers-wanted-sata-drive-not-working-on-some-boards/?p=5641 /etc/rc.local successfully controls the Banana Pi M2's red, green and blue LEDs and the Lamobo R1's green LED. But how to control the behavior of the Lamobo R1's red LED? At the moment, Armbian 5.0x, the red LED doesn't turn off after shutdown. An older image, I'm still using, I guess 4.8x or 4.9x, turns the red LED off after shutdown by default without any manual configuration. I'm using a green heartbeat as workaround to indicate the power status but I would appreciate to us…

Hello, I noticed that the official armbian images for this board(s) are based on Jessie -> https://www.armbian.com/odroid-hc1/ NCP only supports Stretch, but that is ok, because I build the armbian images from source. The Odroid XU4/HC1/HC2 NCP images I build ( https://ownyourbits.com/downloads ) are using Stretch and everything seems to be working fine so far. My question is, what is your testing procedure to consider an image stable? Would it help if I built the plain Armbian image as well so it can be shared in https://www.armbian.com/odroid-hc1 ? I would be happy to help with this Apologies if this has been asked bef…

What do we have? Serial connection: Hardware schematics: orangepi-plus-h3-v1_1.pdf Wireless: Realtek RTL 8189 ETV Allwinner introduced new way of storing board definitions (also on A23 and A80) so it's a bit different than on A20 boards. So, Just installed Arbian Xenial mainline/stable on a 32Gb microSD on a Cubietruck. Everything seems to be working well except when I attach an external USB 3.0 1Tb disk. It seems to keep issuing some kind of ATA command to query the disk and cause a clicking. I know its not the disk because it works fine elsewhere and theres some info in the dmesg about it (which I will post when I get a chance). Is this a known bug or not? And if Im able to track down the bug and fix it where should I submit a PR? Thanks for the great project! - Zack

Armbian is written to a µSD card as a small file (a gig or two if I recall). If the card is 64gigs, the image is still just a few gigs written to that card. When booted on the device, though, it automatically expands the file system to the full size of the card. How exactly does it do that? And... How do I do the reverse? Take the file system from a working armbian install and create a small image that when written to a µSD card, will stay small, but then auto-expand when booted on a device?

Hello, I am testing vendor kernel + Ubuntu 24.04 on my board and found an issue with the Bluetooth desktop application. The Bluetooth adapter itself works normally. After enabling Bluetooth from the desktop UI, hciconfig -a shows the Bluetooth device correctly. However, when I click the Bluetooth device in the Blueman interface to open the device window, the Blueman window becomes stuck and stops responding. The strange thing is that if I restart Blueman manually using: killall blueman-manager export DISPLAY=:0 blueman-manager the Bluetooth manager window opens normally, and device scannin…

Hi, There have been a couple of posts about this over time, but I was wondeing if somebody could please provide concrete example / sample code that uses DMA to TX out the GPIO pin(s)? I want to be able to TX outwards only from my Allwinner H3 device (Orange PI PC) to 16 pins in parallel (so 16 bit DMA in parallel) from a chunk of memory in RAM. Happy with a basic example if somebody has which just blasts out one GPIO pin even.

I have have armbian V25.2.3 installed on a radxa Zero 2w linux kernel 6.12.17-current-meson64. The radxa uses i2c to talk to a PCA9685 which in turn drives three servos in a robot. The issue is that the PCA9685 has two i2c busses, 0 and 1. But the radxa zero has only two i2c busses that can be enabled using armbian-config and they are i2c-3 and - ic2-5. It seems I need to install a new overlay to describe the i2c busses in the device tree. But how do I do that?

I was doing some testing today on aml-s9xx-box builds and noticed that with meson64-current (6.0.13) kernels the boot logo is showing, but with meson64-edge (6.1.0) kernels it does not. I know there was a recent commit that probably is causing this, something about removing the old way of handling boot logos. So my question is, what needs to change to convert to the new way? I suspect it has something to do with the append line that the build process is inserting into the extlinux.conf file: append root=UUID=0ffde9aa-5a6a-4d6f-bbef-0d8daf439537 rw no_console_suspend c onsoleblank=0 fsck.fix=yes fsck.repair=yes net.ifnames=0 bo…

Hi, I have been recently working on a couple of extensions: lvm and cloud-init I forked off "v23.11.2" tag when creating my branches, since they are extensions, and wont alter the framework much. Today I noticed that OdroidUX4 is not building, but it was building last week. A patch seems to be failing. I guess it is a kernel/driver patch. Then my question is: is it possible that, on the same tag (v23.11.2), builds break? I am starting to think that the tag is only for the build process/patch set, but excludes, for example a reference to kernel code. I suppose then the situation is that a kernel update…

For who is interested in the dwmac-sun8i driver for Ethernet on the Orange Pi H3 family. It is an alternative driver for sun8i_emac driver. I have good results with it. No multicast problems and 24x7 uptime ( no RX errors). The maintainer Coretin mailed me today about an update. Tommorrow version v6 will be updated.

Hi All, this is my 1st post here. If I'm mistaken where or what placing here, please pardon me and direct me to the right place. Please illuminate my ignorance, concerning the subject. I think it is implementation dependent, how usleep(3) is treated, when found in an interrupt service call back routine. Is it just ignored?, or are ISRs executed as threads and usleep(3) works?? Moreover, the ISR is called from a Real_Timer int (sigalrm). Thank's and best regards hk

I installed the linux-image-dev-sunxi64 and linux-dtb-dev-sunxi64 packages, which pulls in the 5.1.5 kernel, and it seems something is amiss in the pinebook dtb. On the 4.19 kernel, pwm-backlight powers on, and you get video output, however, on 5.1.5 once u-boot loads the kernel and it is starting, video output goes away. In the 4.19 kernel, the kern.log shows the following output during boot: May 29 19:15:10 localhost kernel: [ 3.937999] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p1): mounted filesystem with writeback data mode. There is another topic with answer for desktop case. But how to rotate the console screen, when there is no desktop? The suggestion about change in kernel parameter - fbcon=rotate:<number> didn't work for me (edited boot.cmd, compiled with mkimage command, and I see boot.scr changed ) and I was unable to change the /sys/class/graphics/fbcon/rotate file - it stays unchanged.

Hello, We've enabled pps-gpio in armbianEnv and will hopefully soon have our GPS/PPS source sync'ing the Neo2. We are also trying to have the Neo2 as a PPS generator when there is no local GPS/PPS connected and it's sync'd on the LAN from another Neo2 that has the GPS/PPS. To make all this work we'd like to be able to activate a PPS generator (output), along the lines of: https://github.com/jsln/pps-gen-gpio Think we understand the device-tree process well enough, but how (and where) would we put the driver code and have it compiled in and usable? Is this something that can be done on top of the nightly build we're using, or would we have to do this in t…

Hi, first of all thank you for the great work. Let me tell you my story. I bought a Pinebook laptop some months ago and in my spare time I was playing with numerous OS-es. Installing and testing one by one. In total I've tested every single OS and so far Armbian is the winner. Why? Well because it is super fast, very stable, lightweight and with very simple xfce desktop look and feel. Now, like everything in life, there are some bad sides of Armbian. I am not sure if I will say something false or strange but I don't consider my self expert for hardware nor Linux world. So far I have also Raspberry Pi with Raspbian installed and don't see any bad si…

Starting to get into the armbian image a whole lot more as I prefer the lightweight nature of it over ubuntu mate on the ODroid C2. One issue I ran into today is the armbian kernel isn't built from the current hardkernel C2 kernel image: https://github.com/hardkernel/linux/tree/odroidc2-3.14.y I'm trying to get the 3.5" LCD Shield running on there, naturally it works fine on ubuntu mate C2 image but the kernel used for the armbian build is a different fork. Hi all, I have the clearfog base - Armbian 5.32 works great on it. Now let's say I need to develop an application which uses Boost. I can create a custom user config to install the appropriate packages, but how do I compile against it? rootfs seems to be deleted every time I create an image to be flashed. How can I package my own application into the sd card image? I have done this before with openwrt and their custom packages, but if I could do it in Armbian that would be great.

Some of you probably saw that I added recently the OrangePi-Prime to the build process. Unfortunately, I'm still struggling to get the WiFi. It is even worst than the WiFi issue still present on OrangePiWin. For the OrangePi-Prime, even the DT doesn't process the WiFi entries, and the mmc1 is still "disabled" in /proc/device-tree at boot time. But, unfortunately, I'm seeing "sunxi-mmc 1c10000.mmc: no support for card's volts" error, although I didn't found obvious errors in vqmmc-supply setting of mmc1. I will have to dig f…

I am working on support for the ClockworkPi Gameshell main board. I have patches for the kernel, but it seems that the build system applies kernel patches on a "per family" basis. Indeed, looking at the 'kernel-patch.sh' script it seems the BOARD and TARGET variables that would let board specific patches work are commented out. I've read through the example PR's in the docs, but don't see an example of how applying board specific patches should work. I fear that if I put the patches into the normal flow, it will get applied to other boards within the sunxi family and things may break for other boards. Should kernel patches be crafted in a way that they SHOULD …

Dear Community, Everytime I build a new Armbian OS, it comes with "configng" which dosent support the Feature to enable I2C, SPI & UART, the category "Hardware" isnt available in my build. How can I add the armbian-config to my automated build-system which adds the armbian-config with support of enabling this? I add a picture of the armbian-config, which comes with the currently build. At "system" is an entry with "armv7l" , but I build the OS for sunxi8. What I need to do, to support the Hardware entry in my armbian-config?

This isn't specific to armbian, I guess. I am not sure if the mainline linux kernel supports USB peripheral/OTG on Banana Pi M2. Armbian doesn't list anything in /sys/class/udc , so I assume it isn't. In the v3.3 kernel released by Sinovoip, there is a dedicated option in the menuconfig for sunxi_usb. I am not sure where to look in the mainline kernel. Anybody has a better idea about this? Thank you.

Hi there, trying to iterate on making small changes to a kernel driver module, and using armbian to help build the kernel (cross-compiling off the device). I'm aware of kernel-patch mode, but for making small changes, compiling, and iterating like this over and over, making and then putting patches into place on each cycle is quite cumbersome. Is there some way to tell armbian build _not_ to update the kernel, i.e. let me build with dirty tree, as I'm in a dev cycle? I just want to edit something in my local kernel tree, then build the kernel, and repeat

Built an Edge/Jammy firmware for a rk3588s2 based system(Radxa CM5). Panthor firmware for GPU G610 is not the right version though in this image. So after boot changed the firmware file, in the /lib/firmware/arm/mali/arch10.8/ folder, to the right version. Reboot produces the same problem though. It does not see the modified file, but still the original, wrong, one. With boot complete and going to the firmware folder the changed firmware is there. I presume that the changes I make end up in an overlay that only is mounted after the boot process. Rewriting the whole 6 GB image, just to change one file, is a bit cumbersome. I've added new patches for OrangePi-ZeroPlus and commited them. Like for OPiPrime done yesterday, the OrangePi-ZeroPlus WiFi still not working. I don't know why yet, although is more encouraging than OPiPrime, since at least the driver comes up in "lsmod" in the OrangePi-ZeroPlus, while for the Prime it didn't. Also another issue : OrangePi-ZeroPlus has an eMMC, I was able to do "nand-install-sata", but I'm unable to boot from it, although the MMC2 DT is part of U-Boot, for some reasons, it doesn't scan it.

I want to build a custom kernel module for this kernel but where I can get linux-headers-next-sunxi64_5.65 package? I did with apt-get but the lasted version only 5.60. Please help

I compiled the Armbian on renegade board, based on mainline linux, compiling was stopped as the output: LD vmlinux.o MODPOST vmlinux.symvers MODINFO modules.builtin.modinfo GEN modules.builtin LD .tmp_vmlinux.kallsyms1 [ error ] ERROR in function compile_kernel [ main.sh:589 -> main.sh:490 -> compilation.sh:506 -> general.sh:0 ] [ error ] Kernel was not built [ @host ] [ o.k. ] Process terminated And the logs files are in the attachments. Today the linux kernel auto updates to 5.15.36, I haven't this issue using 5.15.35 before. Anybody know why? logs.zip

I would love to see a guide on how to create a virtual machine for Armbian which would be great for testing in VMWare Workstation, Player or Virtualbox. It would be similar to the diet pi vm which autoboots into the qemu (I think) for the Raspberry Pi If someone has a rough guide on how to do it I can make something noob friendly. My guess is you need to install qemu, add some repositories and then get it to autoboot using rc.local or something like that. Any resources on how to get started would be much appreciated.
