Why dont you provide support to the Banana pi single boards ? Many of them very interesting. Support is also very weak and short. I know that the last 2 boards from bananpi were based on mediatek and realtek CPU. ( R2 W2 ) They was specialized single boards as router and storage NAS board. why not to try?

Hi all, this is my first posting although I've been following armbian for some time. Hopefully this is the right forum area... Does anyone know the availability (or otherwise!) and cost of the Banana Pi Zero? It looks like a board clone of the Pi Zero W but with a different processor. Secondly will/does armbian support it assuming it is available? I have a project using the Pi Zero W but of course they are only available in one off quantities. Cliff

Two things: - If no HDMI is pluged in, /dev/fb0 disapears. Replug and it's there again. Must that be? (This nearly made me crazy 'till I found out!). - Compilation of external Drivers doesn't work anymore after new update. I have the precise error not here because I reinstalled generic version, but it's reproducable. (e.g with that: http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/linux/2007/07/05/devhelloworld-a-simple-introduction-to-device-drivers-under-linux.html?page=2). Cheers Thomas

Heads up. Here is this HDMI to USB 2.0 capture card, 1080p@30. Very useful for posting captures, or using your laptop as an improvised HDMI monitor. It can be get for $5, shipping form the EU, USA and Russia. Here is the link: https://aliexpress.com/item/4001019746564.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.613263c0C55RA2 It got very good reviews (unless the device looks identical on the outside but has different internals):

Nicely they provide arm and arm64 binaries for lazy people

  7. I just released a new library to act as a DNS filter. This differs from pi-hole in that it runs as a user-level program and doesn't depend on dnsmasq. This allows you to run it on a machine without changing your network configuration. It hasn't been rigorously tested, but appears to work properly. It can either proxy the packets to a trusted DNS server or spoof the return address using RAW sockets to route the response back to the requestor. It can fool web pages (like CNN) as it blocks ads and replaces dynamic ad script requests with innocuous javascript responses. https://github.com/bitbank2/bb-hole

  8. Here at the Sunxi page that was linked off an Armbian page for Beelink X2 (Tips, Tricks, Caveats), down the page you see Running Linux on the X2" with a strike-through. Clicking on that goes to a message that says "Thanks for hacking !!! Go back to stone age!!!" I was wondering what that's all about? From my perspective it looks defaced but maybe it's dev humor.

  12. What do you think about SBCs as the preferred platform to handle encrypted/sensitive/classified data? The threat model would be for frequent travelers, against things like evil maid attacks on laptops left in a hotel room or while the laptop is separated from you during travel. The sensitive data would be kept on an encrypted portable hard drive. It would be decrypted and mounted by the SBC, which only allows login via SSH from your laptop's public key. SBCs have a number of benefits over desktops and laptops, namely: Its hardware is plainly inspectable and difficult to tamper with. Unlike desktops or laptops which are vulnerable to evil ma…

I would like to install a small mpd server (Music Player Daemon) that would read files from a usb disk, stream webradios and possibly be controlled by ir. What is the most lightweight and cheapest board that would exist and could do that ? The orange pi zero with an extension board or a usb audio card would have been perfect, but I read several posts about the lack of software updates and the never resolved kernel issues. How bad is it really ? And then what else would do the job?

Hi guys, After trying multiple things and not getting a satisfying result, I decided to just ask: What is best device to use as a low power torrent downloader? I tried with a raspberry pi 2, but kept getting huge fluctuations in speed, as soon as it had to write to usb (on an expensive high speed usb 3 stick). I googled and googled, and came across the orange pi, which had a more powerfull soc, and didn't have the limitation of using a single usb hub that is shared for ethernet+storage. The boards (bought a PC and a one) finally arrived, but they disappoint. Using armbian, real world average speed seems to be even lower than the rpi2. I must admit I used a …

  16. And no, that isn't supposed to be a rude title :-) ! Let me try to explain. What I'm trying to do is to have some sort of device run pi-hole. I have tried this in the past with success but when I last tried it I was using a raspberry pi zero and a usb wifi adapter - so it really only worked for one PC. What I'm now trying to do is to try to do the same for my entire home network. My guess is that I need some sort of small computer to put in front of the first device the internet touches (a router). So if I put a small arm based computer just before the router running pi-hole that (in theroy) should mean all the devices after the pi-hole get the black-hole ad b…

  17. Hi Armbians As the title already says, I would like to know what the best 5V SBC`s are to be used as network relay? The board should have a minimum of 1,5 GB RAM and it should be able to handle about (or even more then) 50 MBit/s synchronous network bandwidth by ethernet plug 24/7. My standart board for this use is the Cubietruck/ Cubieboard3. But this one is only able to handle traffic about the 25 MBit/s range. Same for Banana Pro by Lemaker. 30. I have wanted 'multi-room networked audio' since years. Sort of like Sonos, except I don't use proprietary stuff. So recently, I finally got it working, and even using strictly F/LOSS tools, which I was pretty happy about! I will mention that I am using Mopidy as source, piping that in to snapserver (snapcast), which synchronize the audio to various devices across the network (each running snapclient) so you have a picture of how it works. Maybe I make separate thread / blog post about that, but here I mention it only as criteria for selecting hardware (as these tools must be supported). Currently I have one old RPi 3 [0] with a HifiBerry AMP2…

My purpose in writing the code was to learn about the device and help document it better for other people to have an easier time using it. In my search for info, I only found poorly documented Python and Arduino code, so I thought I would write a C version and make it easy to read. It works fine and actually works for longer, but the battery percentage is not correct anymore, since it now drops to 5% and stays there for some time until it completely discharges. Does need a special calibration (pmic is AXP223) or will a simple charge/discharge calibrate things ?

  99. Just a quick note to help other users that may have the same problem: Recently I've added the 2 USB expansion board to my Orange Pi Zero running Armbian. As the new USB ports did not get listed by lsusb, I've looked into /boot/armbianEnv.txt: It started with samba configuration (?) and a bunch of NUL characters (!). I assume it was corrupted by some wrong power outage. Anyway, recovering the armbianEnv.txt file from original armbian image solved the issue.
