dear community, let me express that i am very very lucky to be here - to be here and being a part of this great and awesome community. had good times working on Banana-Pi with some stuff like NAS things. But now i want to put on Raspi things that are parts of a IoT-Server. Therefore i am planning a headstart into docker! Docker is a tool that allows you to deploy applications inside of software containers. With Docker, images are used to configure the operating system and install an application's dependencies. Then from the image, containers are created to run the application. Well - running Docker on the Banana Pi seems to be very he…

I am trying to keep the Rock64 I have running on Armbian 10 Buster Version running Home Assistant in a Docker container running 24 hrs a day 7 days a week. It seems like it the OS goes into s sleep mode or power savings mode and I can not keep it up running 24 hrs a day. When it is up and running works very good but is there any settings in the OS that I can access from terminal (no running any gui or desktop) that I can invoke to keep it up and on line all the time?

Hi Experts, Setup: Ubuntu Xenial image on Orange Pi Zero Target boots fine and WiFi working stable. If I remove xradio_wlan module (rmmod xradio_wlan) target start rebooting (shutdown followed by reboot) automatically within 2 minutes and no information is captured in syslog to indicate the reason of reboot. I understand that something is dependent on wlan that is causing system to shutdown. I am looking for help to identify what causes shutdown. Can you provide some pointers which log/service should I look at? Thank you in advance

How to mirror only single distro, single platform on some device itself or local LAN? Lets say some device / network needs to be self sufficient. I have found that minimal requirements are Space needs: 500Gb (images), 100Gb (packages) and (optional) 3TB for archives for https://github.com/armbian/mirror This is done with: rsync -av rsync://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-dl rsync -av rsync://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt Is it possible to make cleaner sync and download only Ubuntu Lunar / arm64?? To be honest I have no clue about mirror structure, are files shared between platforms / releases and other relevant knowledge so I'm just guessing. Wil…

Hi everyone, I am a LINUX beginner. and I have a NanoPi M4V2, and want to build a mini NAS with OpenMediaVault 5 under Armbian (OMV5 can only run in Armbiam/Debian, not available in Ubuntu) The M4V2 has a SATA hat, and it can support up to 4 hard drives (2.5 inches size), so the SATA hat is powered separately, and I guess this is why it always gets overheat This is what it looks like. There is a 12V fan interface (2pin) on this SATA hat, just right biside the power button. And I found that there are already some solution in the forum of armbian.com, all kinds of scripts, some can drive the Fan according to the CPU's temperature, or even …

I bought DS1307 RTC but it is 5V so it can't be connected to the Pi. I know it can be modified to use 3.3V by removing 2 resistors. This sensor is different than the adafruit kit so I am not sure which resistors to remove. It also has 2 sets of pins. What are the extra pins for and which should I use and which pins do I remove? Here is the image of the RTC: Here you can see the datasheet for the DS1307 RTC.

Hi, I am trying to run armclang on Ubuntu (running in WSL2 on Windows 11). I have downloaded and installed Arm Dev Studio 2022.1 for Linux, by following the instructions in the Getting Started Guide: getting_started_101469_2021.2_00_en.pdf I ran: $ armds-2022.1.sh followed by: $ run_post_install_for_Arm_Development_Studio_2022.1.sh The install appears to have completed ok, but I don't know how to add the license. One would normally use the IDE to do so but I can't get the GUI to work in WSL2 (theoretically WSL2 on Windows 11 supports graphical apps). Is it possible to configure the license from the command line? A long shot: has a…

How to track changes in armbian packages, especially for dev boards like OPI 3? I know there is Changelog in docs site but it's not really up to date... I am very new to Armbian. I have been running it on a NanoPi R1 for 1 week and all is well, but I am now trying to understand how I will maintain it. I started with the Armbian Buster download, which I wrote to SD card then transferred to emmc. This was easy and completely problem free. I have installed various packages to set up some services and again - all was easy. I am running: BOARD=nanopi-r1 BOARD_NAME="NanoPi R1" BOARDFAMILY=sun8i BUILD_REPOSITORY_URL=https://github.com/armbian/build BUILD_REPOSITORY_COMMIT=76ac54aa VERSION=5.90 LINUXFAMILY=sunxi BRANCH=next ARCH=arm IMAGE_TYPE=stable BOARD_TYPE=conf INITRD_ARCH=arm …

I am currently trying to set up the PICAN GPS+ACC Rev B on my NanoPi M4 in order to receive CAN connections. I have previously set this up on a Raspberry Pi with no issues, but because the NanoPi does not have /boot/config.txt and /boot/cmdline.txt I am at a loss at how to set up the module. Any information as to how I can go about using the module on the NanoPi would be much appreciated. The guide I used to set up the module on the Raspberry Pi is here http://skpang.co.uk/catalog/images/raspberrypi/pican/PICANGPSACC_V1.pdf Thanks

Hello! I wish to make my OrangePi 'failsafe' in regards of spontaneous power losses and such, so I need to have it running write protected, with writes going to a special partition or just RAM. My searches yielded an 'ancient' way to freeze the root filesystem using overlayroot, which isn't supoprted anymore (https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/) As I think that this kind of 'headless embedded usage' is an usual scenario for SBC running Armbian and having seen there was a method for doing so before, I assume there probably is a popular modern method for doing so, but I couldn' find it. How would I do this with the…

Hi there, let's say I'd like to mimic this device because I'm filming events with several cameras and audio recorders, and that it's really time consuming to synchronize everything before the real editing. So... I was thinking of starting with a GPS module on top of an Orange Pi Zero to get the initial UTC time fix, adding also a temperature compensated crystal to keep it running if we lose the GPS signal (which will happen for sure, as most of my recordings are inside buildings). The goal there is to generate an audio signal thanks to libltc and to add that to the original audio/video in real time. How would you get the GPS+Crystal to set the time for …

I am trying to use a DHT21 with a Lamobo R1 aka Banana PI R1 to read temperature and humidity, with Armbian/Jessie and a 4.5.2 kernel. A Lamobo R1 is basically an A20 board raspberry pi compatible, with an inverted compatible raspberry pi v2 bus. I have setup it up in GPIO5, raspberry pin compatible 24, WirinPi 5, physical pin 18, according to a table here, plus the GND and +5V pins. I tried to read the temperature and humidity with and without the recommended resistor. While the temperature is reading fine, and is also corroborated by a DS18b20 sensor connected to GPIO2, which indicates the setup is fine, the humidity is always at 99.9%. I have installed the WiringPi…

Hi guys, do you know some article about how to run DHT11 or DHT22 sensors on Banana Pi? I have one sensor bmp180 on I2C bus and reading temperature and barometric pressure was quite easy but this is different bus and move code from Raspberry needs more effort. Basically I need proper binary able to read from gpio pins and I want to record/show values from this sensor on Rpi Monitor. If somebody have previous experiences with that and want to share them I will be very appreciated.

For this question the assumption is that a board actually has a maintainer and I think the answer given will be useful for anyone else with the same or similar question. May end up being a candidate for some FAQ list. Question is.... If a board has a maintainer and the user builds the image themselves using the recommended default kernel/compilation option, why is there no support for the built image? Rationale behind the question is if the user decides to change the kernel build options then there would bo no doubt that the user will be on their own with no support, but if the kernel is built with the default hard built options then there ha…

Hi everybody! I have the Armbian OS on OrangePi PC and I try to connect it to my WiFi router. For this purpose I have a Realtek USB RTL8188. I tried to connect it a couple of time, but it was unsuccessful. The "Connecting" pop-up window remains on the screen for minutes without connecting to the internet. Perhaps the Armbian does not have the right driver for this device? I have it, but I have no idea how to install it. Can someone help me, please?

Tinkering with API's is fun. Always wanted to allocate the scripts and tools made over time and allow quick access to the data they can provide. Never liked the idea of leaving a power hungry Desktop running to have access to it and am too paranoid to leave any SBC (FTP/WebServer) connected to the World Wild West for too long. As seen with the Mirai Botnet/DYN attacks. So my answer was to have something low power (SBC and armbian) that was at least 'secure enough' for me to let it interface with the world. So this was made: https://github.com/BiTinerary/PersonalAPI In a nutshell this is how it works: Scripts on an OPi Zero that make API calls, scrape web da…

i want to dive into the creating of file-systems on Linux. so i have some ideas: can you give me some hints on these steps. can i break all down and say so: - in order to do the very first steps in creating a file system ... basically, I'm trying to do the following steps: - create a disk image of about 500MB; - create a GPT; - create a FAT32 partition in the first 300MB(I'll call it UEFI); - create a FAT32 partition in the remaining bytes(I'll call it SYSTEM); - create the following subdirectory in the UEFI partition: /EFI/BOOT/; that said we have the following things: Layouting a disk image and copyin…

Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask .I have worried a few days.Don't know whether it is appropriate to ask here. I am using the LM95071 in a simple application to measure ambient temperature of our product. The normal temperature range is approx 15degC through to 50degC. In general the part is working well, however intermittently I will read a value of -22degC. The spurious values occur around once every 100-200k reads. Typically a valid read should be 0x0eab, however I am occasionally getting spurious values of 0x0f4b3, 0x0f4a7, 0x0f4a3 or 0x0f4b7 I am reading the LM95071 every 4ms, which is much faster than its conversion time, however t…

Hi there, I'm looking for a USB power supply that would be mounted into a rack, so that I can power up quite a few boards at the same time. These boards would also be in the same rack. I found a big rackable USB hub, but that's not what I am looking for, and 2.4A max per slot may be too weak for some of the boards. I could hosts several smaller USB hubs too, but that does not sound really enticing. My other option is to make it by myself with salvaged server power supplies, a patch panel, bits and bobs, but it will take longer... Would you have any recommendation? Thanks.

Hi there, I'm looking for a replacement for my NanoPi NEO (512M) fleet. I'm open to your suggestions. Things I do **not** like about NanoPi: * Unreliable Ethernet. A network interface is flipping all the time Up/Down. * 512 MB is not enough for a tor relay * Hardware watchdog does not work reliably. It works in synthetic tests but sometimes a board just freezes. Things I like about NanoPi: * Armbian support * Price * Size/form factor * Performance * Heat dissipation * Ethernet tap My use cases: * Tor router * Home DNS server * Monitoring server Prometheus for my SBCs and network equipment.

Hi there , I’m Jimmy. First post here... apologies in advance for any questions that might sound dumb. My plan: buy Android TV boxes and install Armbian to run browsers and remote control using AnyDesk. I chose Android TV boxes - everything is complete and contained in a small box + very cheap. For £45 for example, I can get with power supply - with 2GB RAM - not sure about processor though. - Should I consider other options? Like Orange Pi? I've got a 3rd generation Raspberry Pi - that is so poor for speed, chokes on one or 2 browser tabs. (I haven't tried Armbian - I will be doing shortly.) - N…

Hi. Sorry if this is not the best place, I couldn't figure out where to put this. Hi Scrolling through the forum I realized how old this SBC is that I purchased but I had no choice since basically all other options are out of stock in my country with lead-times past this year... This should be a thread where we every one is invited to improve the 'Support over Forum' situation (there was some discussion about it in the nightly & tkaisers support propsal thread). Threads like this one showed clearly that a lot of good supporters and problem solvers gets more and more frustrated about the situation. Being new as moderator on this board, I have some questions: What do you (as a good problem solver) expect should a moderator do, to avoid situations like this? Should moderators keep the development threads as clean as possible as long as images for those boards are in experimental stage? (throw out every: i'm also interessted in gettin…

Hi all. I've just finished a new video where I polish the heatsink of my Rock Pi X with sandpaper. This because there's a rather thick powdercoating on the heatsink in the spot where it makes contact with the SoC. This caused a lot of thermal resistance. The SoC would get hot and overheat, while the heatsink didn't warm up. And the top of the board was the hottest spot. Here my video. On the NanoPi M4 and M4V2 there was a thermal pad included. This also was pretty bad. I raplaced those with a copper shim and some thermal paste and improved the thermals by about 10C. If you like to use your board passively cooled it can be important to look f…

Dear All, I just want to make a Tutorial on my successful attempt in Installing Box86 on Arm64 and Install Wine X86 apps. Hi! I'm using Banana PI and latest Armbian_5.00_Bananapi_Debian_jessie_3.4.110. SInce it came without xservert and fact that I like to only use board in "kiosk" mode, I should execute only couple of application which use xserver. One is matchbox-keyboad and other is pyQT application. So.... Using apt-cache search xfce I got list of packages for xfce desktop. So I presume i have to install at least: xfce4 - Meta-package for the Xfce Lightweight Desktop Environment xfconf - utilities for managing settings in Xfce xfwm4 - window manager of the Xfce project xfe - lightweight file manager for X11 Since I'm newbee in linux I'd like to know what I have to ins…

Instruction on how to use wireless WoL (Wake on LAN) using RTL8189FS example in Armbian 23.x Bookworm (This wireless WIFI adapter is installed in Oprange Pi Lite/Oprange Pi Plus(2E)/Orange Pi Zero Plus/Oprange Pi PC Plus/Oprange Pi 2/etc...) 1. First of all we need to change the device tree configuration file dts file for our single board. The point is that for most WIFI drivers for SDIO interface there is a normal configuration of single board wake-up via interrupt and therefore there is no need to go into dts. In the driver for RTL8189FS (aka RTL8189FTV) there is NO such feature as "host-wake" interrupt and we will have to make small changes to wake up the…

Hello Igor! I am using your excellent ARM- based DEBIAN distribution on all of my 3 cubietrucks and I am very pleased with ist. At this time i would like to express my deepest gratitude to you and all fellow users and supporters of ARMBIAN. Recently i discovered a new INTEL based platform: INTEL Compute Stick e.g. STK1A32SC, STK2MV64CC or STK2M364CC all without any OS. Most of them are not yet available (in Germany), however they will be available - hopefully - within the next three months - or so. These Compu Sticks getting so powerful - including Core 5 M processor, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, 64 GB eMMMC and a slot for microsd (up to 200 GB), WLAN AC, BT 4.2, 3 x…

Just thought I would introduce myself and start on my 5 approved posts requirements. ETAPrime is the reason I found out about this project and it's something I'd like to help out with when/where I can. I currently have a few Raspberry Pi 3 B and 3 B+. I also have two Libre ROC-RK3399-PC that I'm looking forward to future support on with the community. I also enjoy gaming and 3D printing as my other hobbies. Ask me anything? I guess?

Hey there, most of you probably already know about the Armbian IRC channel that came back to live a while ago. If not pause reading here and check out this topic and resume here after done: Hey, you found your way back. Nice. As stated I want to give away IRC bouncers for whoever likes to have one. It is not bound to Freenode (although it will come pre-configured for #armbian and I would appreciate to see you hang around there ). You are free to connect any IRC network you want as long as it is IPv6 capable. You don't know what a bouncer is? Pause reading and check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNC_(software) A…

Hi guys, I'd like to install an heatsink on my OPi1. 'cause on summer ambient temps are too high... Can I install an heatsink taken from a mobo chipset on the OPi1? the heatsink is bigger than the h3 cpu, it cover either the cpu and the ram, does this (one heatsink for ram and cpu) will be bad for temp? If I want, instead, buy an heatsink for h3, 14mm or 15mm? ceramic, copper or aluminium? thank you so much

Hi, I've been using a lot redsocks with iptables to be able to stream to YouTube since last June on an X86 Ubuntu machine. I have a set of iptables rules that work for me on this machine. I imported them on my OrangePi One running Armbian Linux orangepione 5.4.2-sunxi #19.11.4.352 SMP Wed Dec 18 00:58:18 CET 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux. Unfortunately, it did not work, maybe because of the news nftables. So I chose to use the legacy iptables Spoiler update-alternatives --set iptables /usr/sbin/iptables-legacy update-alternatives --set ip6tables /usr/sbin/ip6tables-legacy update-alternatives --set arptables /usr/sbin/arptables-legacy update-…

Hello, If I compile the mainline kernel after a make -j2 Bananapi_defconfig Will I get a suitable kernel or am I obliged to use ARMbian build script ? The question behind is, I'm testing Arch on several (unsupported) SBCs at customers requests, and on the BananaPI-M1, the HDMI is not working, on the OrangePI PC2, both the network and eMMC don't work. Obviously, everything is perfectly working on my ARMbian boxes 😄 Thanks

I want to get an sbc to make personal server running website with backend for me, so basically JS, Python, and other stuff. I also want to connect my microcontrollers like esp32 to make my custom smart home system, by using camera. Maybe i also could use AI to analize the image. I found one Banana pi M3(2gb ram) for under 10$, so i am thinking whether to buy it. I feel like the deal is great since i can't find other sbcs with such hardware, ram to be specific, but i heard that software support is bad. Is that true for now? Or is it usable? I am also thinking of getting Orange pi one plus(1gb ram), but it costs more and also has less ram. What shoul…

Hi there, I am about to use an OrangePi Zero to handle the temperature and display some information on a custom contraption related to network. The problem I have is that this contraption will be powered on and powered off at will, without notice. So... I guess that after some time, the Zero running Armbian won't be that happy about being shut off brutally. I have seen some setups with supercapacitors for Raspberry Pis, but has anyone in here tried something similar with the OrangePi Zero? Or anything else that would delay the power loss, so that the board can shutdown properly? I made searches about supercapacitors with Armbian, but only found some…

Hi all . Before i buy Orange Pi 3 ( 64-bit 1.8GHZ ARM Cortex™-A53 , 2GB RAM ) , i want to know: Is it posible to use this PC + Armbian as desktop PC ? I want to use 1. Firefox Browser 2. YouTube 720p60 or FullHD ( Desktop version ) 3. Having ability to watch something with videoplayer. Videoplayer need to have support of large variants of codecs. 4. Listen music. And also online radio ( this can be done via audacious ) I had expirience in using Raspbian. quick search on this forum return small amount of useful information. Thanks in advance.

Sorry if this is silly question, but I can't find any straight-forward documentation on this topic. I've seen that Mali drivers was available for older kernel, but what about mainline? Asking this especially in context with this finding -- Maxime Ripard's article "Mali OpenGL support on Allwinner platforms with mainline Linux". Currently on clean Armbian install on NanoPi Neo Air I can't load mali: $ modinfo mali modinfo: ERROR: Module mali not found.

One of the board members here wrote an article about a 12 node NanoPi-Fire3 cluster. I found it quite exciting (I don't get out much). It is a couple of years old. It seems to be very powerful yet energy efficient. Is this SBC still the King of clusters? I want to fool around with clusters, cluster software managers and process distributors, and perhaps do some coin mining (if that is feasible). Someone said this board has too little memory for coin mining, that 2gb would be better than 1gb. Pine have a 7 slot clusterboard which takes their PINE A64 (+) "Single Board Computer powered by Allwinner’…

Hi, I am working on a project based on raspberry pi and sensors, I am using sensors to get data and I am using an ADS1115(datasheet) ADC to convert sensor analog data to digital. I am concerned about the ESD for raspberry pi so i have used a metal case for this project. Also, I am using a MEANWELL Net 35-b power supply . Question: I read on a blog that the simplest way to have ESD protection is to use a metal case and connect the metal case to the ground of the power supply also ground of raspberry pi and power supply are connected. Is this the correct way to protect circuit and raspberry pi?

OK, playing around with NanoPi Duo (H2+) to see what kind of performance boost I can get using MMIO (/dev/mem) instead of gpiod (forget sysfs) and it was pretty impressive. I used pre-calculated offset to run a square wave (rapid on/off) on pin 203 IOG11 and I hit ~3.8 MHz compared to ~500 KHz using gpiod. You can take a peek at the source at https://github.com/sgjava/java-periphery/blob/master/src/main/java/com/codeferm/periphery/demo/MmioTest.java. So the idea is how to make this generic with boards with multiple GPIO chips and different register configurations. The cool thing is the underlying MMIO stuff is kernel cross platform. Any ways I've been thinking about this …

Hi there, I'm, the maintainer of the Java library diozero and am looking to test the library on Armbian. I have quite a few devices but am looking to test with a TinkerBoard and Odroid C2. The library includes support for GPIO, I2C, SPI and serial. It includes very high performance memory mapped GPIO control (~10MHz) as well as sysfs and more recently GPIO character device. I've test the GPIO character device code on the Raspberry Pi and just looking at adding support for Armbian. I'm seeing gpioinfo doesn't include GPIO names which I see on the Raspberry Pi (everything is "unnamed") - is there anyway to fix that?

Java Periphery has finally been released! Java Periphery is a high performance library for GPIO, LED, PWM, SPI, I2C, MMIO and Serial peripheral I/O interface access in userspace Linux. This will replace User Space IO. I'm seeing GPIO write speeds of 500K/s from userspace. Compared to User Space IO and libgopid speeds of 2K/s. I switched from JNA wrapper generation to JNI wrapper generation. The build process is much simpler (only single install.sh) and building libgpiod is no longer required. The API follows c-periphery, python-periphery and lua-periphery. This should cover the widest array of SBCs and languages around. Java Periphery should work on Armbian/Ub…

Java Periphery is a high performance library for GPIO, LED, PWM, SPI, I2C, MMIO and Serial peripheral I/O interface access in userspace Linux. Rather than try to build this from scratch I used c-periphery and HawtJNI to generate the JNI wrappers. This saves a lot of hand coding and allows for easier synchronization with c-periphery changes moving forward. I believe this is the only userspace IO library that supports the new JDK 17 LTS (and still supports JDK 11). I had to fork HawtJNI to make it work with JDK 17. The only caveat is that ARM32 supports JDK 11. For some reason I cannot find a JDK 17 for ARM32 or information on why is was not supported. The insta…

In the past (2019) there was no chance to use the A64-CPU Jide Remix Mini with armbian, because of a blocked -u-boot But today I found a site (from February 2025 on github) https://github.com/r4nd3l/revived_remix_mini_pc?tab=readme-ov-file which can make the Closed Jide Remix Mini to boot from SDCard with a modified u-boot There at the github page is a modified u-boot and a modified A64 armbian for the Jide Remix Mini. hello dear experts Where would you recommend me to store the Keepass-file? Well - for most of the use-cases usually i have all my personal documents in my cloud account. The pro: i can access it from everywhere in the world. With any device. But besides that i am not so sure if this is safe. Especially if it comes to such things like keepass: Some friends mentioned that it is not so safe: Question; would it be safe to use the cloud for the keepass-file? Can i secure it even further, by adding another (extra) layer of security by encrypting the file. the generalized question is this: How safe is it to store the keepass-file in the (wrong pla…

I've posted in the Armbian forums in the past about Kerberos.io video surveillance software. For some reasons it was (at the time) not always that easy or impossible to compile or get it up and running. But: Times have changed (for the good this time!) and I've tried it again on a H3 1GB memory OrangePi plus with kernel 5.4 using a *FRESH and CLEAN* Ubuntu Bionic Server image. I was able to get the Kerberos software 2.8.0 up and running straight away, just by *EXACT* following the instructions on the website of Kerberos.io (Generic installation Instructions page). It takes some time to compile ffmpeg and the machinery module, but it is certainly worth the eff…

Hi all, First let me thank you for your work. Armbian is fantastic. Thank you. I’m surprised that nobody has asked this question or at least I’m unable to find it on the forum / in docs. My understanding is: 1. Debian x86 Linux kernel is same on all devices since regardless if it is laptop or server, it has BIOS or UEFI that will ”tell” the kernel what hardware, what buses, what addresses, etc. it has… 2. ARM boards don’t have BIOS and therefore Linux Kernel is different for every board. I checked that on my Orange Pi Zero by default the /etc/apt/source.list and /etc/apt/source.list.d/ are default Debian repos and one…
