Hi to all, I have a OPi One and I just have a question: I'd like to use it as mediacenter but als like retroconsole. So, my doubt is: 1. do I need to have 2 sd card one with openelec and one with retropie? Or can I have one that do both? I don't know maybe openelec can execute retroarch with lakka gui? I know that I could use armbian with kodi and retroarch installed, but I try to find something that is confortable to use with a tv. 2. this question is related to the previous one: Opi1 has 1 usb port, can I use a normal usb hub or I need to use an hub that has external power? I plan to attach 1 hdd, a wifi key and a bt key. 3. where I could find a list of su…

Hi Armbian folks, I’m new to the forum and joined today (07:42 PM CEST, July 20, 2025). I’ve recently started playing around with single-board computers, like an Orange Pi 5 I set up with Armbian a while back—it’s been a fun challenge! I’m based in Poland and enjoy tinkering with tech in my spare time. I’d love to hear what brings you all here—any cool hobbies or projects you’re working on? I’m thinking of trying something simple like a media server or smart home setup, but I’m open to ideas. What do you enjoy doing with your SBCs or other gear? Looking forward to chatting with you!

I'm using an eBay packaged Debian 6 MySQL server that is on an OPi PC v1.2 (at least that's what's printed on the board). I am building a database for my app. Just discovered "Browse Network" on the File Manager app and was pleasetly surprised to see "WORKGROUP" appear, which is my (otherwise) Wintel home network. That network has an NAS, but dble-clicking the WG resulted in the attached popup "Failed to open "WORKGROUP". My Linux Bible suggested commands showmount, ftp, lftp and findsmb, none of which, apparently, are installed on my OPi Suggestions, please. Gene

So, I'm working on the new armbian-config and I need to test cpufreq on a real board as VMs don't support this. I was surprised a lot of my older boards are not supported. C1, Duo, M1, etc. They all seemed to get killed off. I don't mind building my own Jammy, but does anyone know why these were killed off? I'm going to use my Neo Plus2 which is supported.

Well, it's gotten to the point where I'm dedicating a PC to this, using the VM is only so useful. Any recommendations on tools (Git gui's, specific code editors, etc?) A lot of this stuff I already have ideas/"go-to"s, but I'd like some new ideas/recommendations. And I think it would help out others to know.

I am new to armbian and get to know the USBImager app via this tutorial: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started So I downloaded the zip file from Gitlab, unpack the file and run the app. First, I got an error saying the developer is not verified and managed to bypass it. When the app is opened, and load the image file and select my sd card, another error comes out when clicking Write button, saying An error occurred while opening the device. My Mac is running macOS Catalina 10.15.5

I just picked up a USB-C hub, it has 3 USB 3.0 ports, 2 SD card slots (standard and micro), a DVI and a GbE ethernet. Using it with my NanoPC T4, and a test with the Renegade Elite (not Armbian) both showed an odd behavior with the GbE, the driver loads, but then claims it doesn't recognize the device after reading it's firmware. Does anyone else have an adapter based on this chip? My cell phone recognized it and used it right away [ 2186.114873] r8152 7-1.4:1.0 (unnamed net_device) (uninitialized): Unknown version 0x6010 [ 2186.114896] r8152 7-1.4:1.0 (unnamed net_device) (uninitialized): Unknown Device ok, found a rejected patch, so some digging shoul…

I wonder if somebody can help me make a good choice. I'm sorry if I'm a bit rambling but I spent a good part of the weekend looking at different SBCs. I've played around with the early Rasperry Pi, then later on I got a Cubietruck (which still faithfully does network stuff at home) and a Cubox. (Which I wasn't that happy with because I needed a little bit more omph, it was *mostly* fine though) What I'm looking for is an ARM based setup I can do some browsing with, run some lightweight X11 (jwm window manager and some very light programs mostly dependent on X-libraries) and watch videos up to 720p. The screens' resolution would be 1280x1024. It'd b…

Hi all. I wanted to put some light on the fact that you now can run some x86 Windows and Linux programs and games on the RK3399 with Box86. I have a topic about it in my lonely "Gaming on ARM club" I've made a preview video about it last week. I've done some further tests. It is just amazing. Plays way better than the RPi4. Tho not yet as many things work. @Salvador Liébana made prebuild images with Box86 preinstalled, and with many other emulators. You can download it here : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gQtgWz2pH2TX9Qs_bcDU9zn7w4edfcVf/view?fbclid=IwAR0SRSC8M_1_qm825n4Bd7bqjLmO30qTpFo73qQQga-TC_LRuc2BVFcGzKU Has been tested on many RK3399 d…

I'm running Armbian on my ARM-based single-board computer, and I would like to create a bootable live image from my current installation. This way, I can use the image to boot other devices with the same configuration, software, and customizations that I've set up on my current system. I've looked through the Armbian documentation, but I couldn't find a straightforward guide on how to accomplish this task. Can someone please provide step-by-step instructions on how to create a bootable live image from my current Armbian installation? Ideally, I'd like to be able to create an image file (e.g., .img or .iso) that I can write to a USB drive or an SD card, making it…

Hi, as I have trouble with aging SDCards, I was thinking of getting a new SBC with eMMC (I already have Odroid XU4, but it's not cheap). I'm pretty happy with OrangePi Zero, but would love to find a SBC with a 64bits SoC, Gigabit Ethernet, 1GB of RAM (as 512MB implies swapping for my use case) and eMMC. OrangePi have the 3G-IOT (which is only 512MB) and 4G-IOT, but they are not supported, and I don't fancy all the gizmos that are on these boards. NanoPi M1+ almost fits the bill, but it's a 32bits SoC. NanoPi K1+ is almost perfect, but it's pricey (and has 2GB of RAM, which would not be a problem if it was cheaper). Any suggestion? …

While trying apt update && apt upgrade I didnt get these newer packages So my first try was to use the armbian-build-system and do use the function for creating u-boot and kernel that will give me some .debs in ./build/output/debs/ like this: linux-u-boot-dev-nanopineo2_5.82_arm64.deb linux-dtb-dev-sunxi64_5.82_arm64.deb linux-image-dev-sunxi64_5.82_arm64.deb linux-headers-dev-sunxi64_5.82_arm64.deb linux-source-dev-sunxi64_5.82_all.deb install these (mostly I didnt do…

Hello all, I had diet-pi on my rock64 for the last few years but recently decided to install armbian debian community maintained firmware. Everything is working fine but I seem to get a new core fw on an almost daily basis (armbian-bsp-cli-rock64-current) and the board needs to be rebooted each time. An I using the wrong repo or is this normal? Should i consider running stock debian instead of armbian?

This is my first impression with the ov8865, a 8MP sensor running on kernel 3.4.39 (linux-sunxi). I am running Banana Pi - M3 with the dual camera extension on Ubuntu Xenial rootfs and with the stock driver. The driver have not been touched because information is scarce and i asked @lvmc for some datasheet. This sensor is a 4 lane CSI2 (MIPI) that has a good performance at high resolution. I am able to get 30 FPS on all available win sizes. I have ran a small v4l2 application to have some benchmarks but guvcview with some minor update is able to display video from the sensor just as we have for the ov5640: TEST 0 ( 3264 x 2448 ) ---- cap parameters ----- width: 3…

Hi, i'm using a Raspad tablet-like device with a aml-s905x-cc inside and i'm experimenting some mobile interface that i can use with the touchscreen, but also with mouse and keyboard. I'm simply curious about convergence desktop designs and mobile desktop environments. The obvious choice would be GNOME, but it is very heavy, both on memory and cpu usage and my board with only 2GB of ram cannot handle it if combined with other heavy programs. I knew that Librem was developing a desktop environment for their Librem 5 linux phone. Since they focus on opensource software i thought if i can install their desktop environment on my tablet to try it and.... yes, it is possib…

This may be useful to some of you. I wrote some C code to talk to those common 2x16 LCD displays that are available in various colors from various vendors. My purpose in writing the code was to learn about the device and help document it better for other people to have an easier time using it. In my search for info, I only found poorly documented Python and Arduino code, so I thought I would write a C version and make it easy to read. You can find the code here: https://github.com/bitbank2/LCD1602

Hi, I've been looking around for an Arm development platform. Banana Pi seems to be about the best value for money. I've been looking around at some TV boxes. However, I see mixed opinions about these being a option. SBCs seem to be almost twice the price of similar spec Arm TV box. Processing power and memory are mostly my priorities. Anything over 4GB seems insanely expensive. I can do SMD soldering work. So modding at TV box is an option. Are there any options for an 8gb Octa core system that isn't going to cost more than a decent PC?

Hi, I wonder if anyone has experience using an sbc (or tv box) for remote controlling a server. I think the necessary pieces are there on many boards (many have camera inputs which could perhaps be used for video, it looks like some even have an hdmi in). I found this [1] project, but it uses some extra hardware I'd like to avoid. https://github.com/Fmstrat/diy-ipmi Has anyone done anything similar? Note I'm mostly looking into this to gain knowledge, not to put this in production in a real world situation.

During development I use snapshot images of sdcard and usb flash disk (nand-sata-install'ed). Unfortunately, the size of common flash/sdcards do start at 16GB nowadays. When I use Win32 Disk Imager, the backups are 2 * 16 GB. I can compress them on PC's disk but in and case writing them back to other sdcards/flash disks take ages. This is because it is a full image, although, say, something like 1 GB on each are used. If there a way to make bootable images which includes only the used parts of the sdcard/flash and be able to write them back?

I have a running obsession with sensors/motors/SBCs and have been creating a collection of C libraries as I learn/conquer each new device. You can find them all here: https://github.com/bitbank2 If anyone has a sensor/add-on that they would like to program in C from their Orange Pi and there isn't any code available, let me know and maybe I can add it to my collection.

You can connect up to 8 hosts to the device simultaneous. And you can switch between the different inputs. Only one USB connection is needed to your host you want to use as master. It is not possible to read the incoming data from all connected hosts simultaneous. I am use it to log the boot process of my cluster nodes [2]…

Today's project is trying to get my game emulator to run on the NanoPi NEO Core board. Lots of exposed I/O, but I'm getting random hangs and some odd behavior with the latest Armbian. In the photo is a ILI9342 (landscape version) 2.3" display and some ugly protoboards I created to allow reliable wiring + sockets for the Core board. I just updated my SPI_LCD project to include support for both the ILI9342 and the Core board's strange header: https://github.com/bitbank2/SPI_LCD I had to wire the USB-A socket to the header because the OTG port is not properly enabled (in the available Armbian build). If I spent some time messing with it, there's probably a bunch …

Hi folks, this is my first thread here, I just recently came aboard since I found that Armbian is the better solution for my Odroi-HC4 therefore I won't insist on checking for info and solution on the Odroid Forum. I am not very satisfied with Hardkernel, they produce excellent board with very poor OS support, looks like such critical aspect is left on the shoulder of a couple of great dudes but is not same as having a community behind; also board as the RPI demonstrated that a great OS support is better than having the most powerful hardware, is the same lesson learned by Rock64 even though I won't user Manjaro not even under torture... 😜 …

So in armbian-config I can enable /dev/i2c-0 /dev/i2c-1 /dev/i2c-2 but there is only one hardware I2C onboard. Are the other two software driven? If so what pins do you use for SCL and SDA?

I bought DS1307 RTC but it is 5V so it can't be connected to the Pi. I know it can be modified to use 3.3V by removing 2 resistors. This sensor is different than the adafruit kit so I am not sure which resistors to remove. It also has 2 sets of pins. What are the extra pins for and which should I use and which pins do I remove? Here is the image of the RTC: Here you can see the datasheet for the DS1307 RTC.

I've installed Armbian on the SD card for X96mini ( 1GB/8GB ). I only would like to get USB-cam video ( MJPEG/30FPS 1920x080 or 1280x720 ) to hdmi display. But I don't know where to begin with the solving of some issues: 1) S905W should support 4x2GHz cores, but cpufreq-info "says", that 1,2GHz is max. possible clock frequency 2) if I start mplayer with -vo null the USB seems to be to slow. I've got max 10-20 fps. On the PC I get about 30 fps with 1920x1080. ( AUSDOM 620pro ) 3) The less number of picture per seconds looks also not very good on tv screen ( very slow ). I tried with mplayer -vo fbdev 4) I've tried also under X11 with qv…

Hello Igor! I am using your excellent ARM- based DEBIAN distribution on all of my 3 cubietrucks and I am very pleased with ist. At this time i would like to express my deepest gratitude to you and all fellow users and supporters of ARMBIAN. Recently i discovered a new INTEL based platform: INTEL Compute Stick e.g. STK1A32SC, STK2MV64CC or STK2M364CC all without any OS. Most of them are not yet available (in Germany), however they will be available - hopefully - within the next three months - or so. These Compu Sticks getting so powerful - including Core 5 M processor, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, 64 GB eMMMC and a slot for microsd (up to 200 GB), WLAN AC, BT 4.2, 3 x…

This was a bit of a buzz back in late Dec 2018, and things got kind of quiet after that... Rumour was that the SoC was the SocioNext SC2A11, which is a Japanese chipset (and from experience, Japanese chip vendors are very particular about who they work with)...

For anyone stumbling accross CVE-2017-6074 and thinking about whether Armbian installations are affected or not: we're most probably not since CONFIG_IP_DCCP is enabled as module only on some kernels: root@armbian:/var/git/Armbian/lib/config/kernel # grep 'CONFIG_IP_DCCP=' * linux-cubox-default.config:CONFIG_IP_DCCP=m linux-cubox-dev.config:CONFIG_IP_DCCP=m linux-mvebu-default.config:CONFIG_IP_DCCP=m linux-mvebu-next.config:CONFIG_IP_DCCP=m linux-sun8i-dev.config:CONFIG_IP_DCCP=m linux-sunxi-dev.config:CONFIG_IP_DCCP=m linux-sunxi-next.config:CONFIG_IP_DCCP=m root@armbian:/var/git/Armbian/lib/config/kernel # Details about this local root exploit: http://seclists.org/os…

I made a previous topic more specific and got no answers so I thought I would expand more. I did a search and I could not find may topics or posts about this. Are people here mainly using these boards without a case? Anyway this could be a future reference. So please if owners of Orange Pi are using a case with theirs could you say which one and any comments. Thank you.

Hi Experts, I am using OPI zero with Ubuntu Xenial. I started with Armbian but switched over to Ubuntu in order to use overlayfs. I am facing overheating problem ad yes I need to apply heat sink etc to solve the issue however since my requirement is not processor intensive (read 48 byte data over UART every 100-200ms and send it over WiFi), I am wondering if I can reduce CPU speed in software to avoid overheating. Any help/expert advice is appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

I was reading the Orange Pi forum and someone in a topic conversation asked why not use a USB for power to a Orange Pi board. I am not smart enough to know why but did find a good explanation of USB online when searchingthe internet. Hope Armbian don't mind me sharing it here as I think it is informative for other novices like me and helps understand USB. http://www.usbmadesimple.co.uk/index.html

Hi everyone, I'm building a micro server based on orange pi prime and armbian, after reading a lot about sd card wear out, I started thinking how could I improve that in my project. For my project it is ok, if data would be physically written to card, every 1 minute instead of on every commit. Now, what I can't find: is there a way to generally configure such memory buffering for a filesystem, so that I don't have to configure this for a database engine?

For most users, this update will not change anything. HIGHLIGHTS New Blocking Mode We’ve added a new blocking mode (NODATA), where blocked requested are replied with a status code of NOERROR and A / AAAA records are empty. Recently I've bought small box which is kind if "wireless interface" for wired AA: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006001314624.html It works quite nicely with my Ford S-Max but I'm very curious man and got it open (aka teardown). Chips cannot be identified, they lack any marks. But there is DEBUG UART First I connected it into my PC. Removable disk appeared with a few files that keeps my phone's BT address and such information. Nothing really interesting. Then I powered up device when holding the button, it didn't start but went into some "flashing mode" I think - it was identified as USB\VID_1F3A&PID_EFE8 which means sunxi SoC OTG connector in FE…

Hello guys, After seeing a friend bought and tried a Raspberry Pi 5 device, I am very excited about what can be done with such a small single-board computer. So now I'm interested in getting a suitable single-board computer to buy. What SBC is suitable to buy if I want to use virtualization sofware such as VMware ESXi for ARM? Running multiple OS at once, is my mainly use. Getting used to Intel CPU & Windows and now I want to switch to ARM and Linux environment. Thanks in advanced.

Hi, No sure if this is the place to post this but here it goes. I use the Debian distro for my armbian deployments. Every time I deploy, and the system comes with systemd-resolved it gives me problems. I always have to remove it and use the /etc/resolv.conf file by it self. I would suggest removing this, it's not necessary or useful. -Cheers

Hey everyone, I flashed an SD card using Etcher and the latest armbian image for Orange Pi PC. I am using a Samsung 2A usb power supply + the official usb power cord. I'm not getting any output on the HDMI. Is this something I have to SSH to first? I removed a USB WiFi adapter and it seemed to work. I don't know why or how that could've caused an issue (since a different WiFi adapter seems to work just fine), but whatever, it works.19.99 euros to dollars

Hi, Idea is to run a wireguard server having two ethernet devices, therefore added an USB3 adapter "ASIX AX88179" to my rockpi4a. I like to allow incoming traffic, incl SSH, on "eth1". Been hearing some news lately about some pretty big ARM Mali GPU vulnerabilities. Old boards could be affected, including ones that are not maintained. https://hothardware.com/news/arm-warns-of-mali-gpu-vulnerabilities https://developer.arm.com/Arm Security Center/Mali GPU Driver Vulnerabilities https://arstechnica.com/security/2023/10/vulnerable-arm-gpu-drivers-under-active-exploitation-patches-may-not-be-available/ I have a Rockchip RK3399 that may also be affected by this. Can Armbian do anything to help mitigate this problem? A handful of boards use these GPUs.

Hi, i own a Libre Computer Le Potato (AML-S905X-CC) board and i would like to compile my own customized kernel to try patches for bug fixing and experimenting unstable "features", like lima driver. The problem is that i currently use this board as daily driver and i would like the possibility to have a backup kernel (a stable one) in case something goes wrong. So the question is: it is possible to have multiple installed kernel and decide which one boot (like GRUB behaviour) using the uboot bootloader? If it is impossible, i'm sorry for the stupid question. I don't know how exactly the boot sequence works, from a low level point of view. Thanks a …

I would like to raise the "issue" of power supply units. Indeed, they are the key component of all what we build, it is also a security issue (what happens at full load) and it seems to me quite difficult to distinguish between the numerous PSU over the market. I am just an newbie on this topic, just willing to get a stable, silent (I mean without annoying sharp noise, not talking about cooling fans) and safe PSUs. I found this page http://lygte-info.dk/info/ChargerIndex UK.html which is the beginning of what could help. Most of us probably already own a charger adapter, I just wonder if "charger adapter" is just a…
