(I am running Ubuntu Core QT-Embedded on a nanoPi Neo using this network adapter)The first time I used the network adapter it worked perfectly. I saw the adapter when I typed ifconfig -a and it connected to my network when I typed the following commands: ifdown wlan0 ifup wlan0Then I unplugged the power supply and plugged it back in and now it doesn't work or show up on ifconfig -a. I tested it out on my Windows machine and the adapter works fine, and when I type lsusb I can see a network adapter so I'm very confused. How can I resolve this issue?

Hello, I am looking to do a diy gameboy running an emulator (eg. retroorangepi). However there're many SBCs out there and I'm not very sure where to stuck. Was about to order the Orange Pi Zero H3 when I realize it has major heat issues which would make it unsuitable for such a usage. What SBC should I use that will ideally: 1) Be really small 2) Doesn't overheat in a small container 3) Has support for gaming emulation

I just need the ethernet connector. Does anyone know the pin connections to this? It's not marked. The double USB from orange pi zero IO expansion works fine but the audio out is a bit noisy. I had to use a separate audio port. This is one of the few boards with double SPIs and they both work fine. Thanks for the easy user overlay customization support. This is my $7.99 256mb neo core, note there is a chip missing (3rd picture). Starting up in X is slower - it waits for a second or two each time - don't know why, any ideas? It cannot be the swap as I monitored the swap and its only using 125mb. I have the system on the USB …

As soon as I start to stream music from the attached USB drive it stops after a few minutes for some seconds continuous then and stops again. After a few of this itterations it stops completely. I tryed to install all available server-OS. At the moment I run BIONIC. I looked in the LMS logs but found noothing. As I am new too this kind of topics I do not know how to find the issue. Can you point me in the right direction?

Hello i wanted to use tv box like hardware firewall like pfsense but found out that arm system is built for specific hardware so i thought i could install linux plus snort / suricata . the only dist that works on this box is armbian but using only firefox uses a lot of resources. my box is mxq pro 4k amilogic s905x now questions: 1.It is possible to modify / uninstall unnecessary things (programs / desktop environment theoretically everything can be installed and config from cmd / bash) in the future could create a web guide for more user-friendliness and transfer some of the load to another pc. 2. Could you tell me in short how the process of…

Hi, First of all I love the Armbian distro on Orange Pi / H3. It's the best out there and what was missing from the beginning. Awesome job. Quick question: is there any reason why Armbian doesn't have Avahi preinstalled by default ? Of course there's no pb adding it afterward but it would be pretty convenient when working with a headless setup. Just curious, Thanks, Richard

(placeholder for a Board Bring Up thread -- now just collecting random nonsense) Board arrived today. Running with ayufan's Debian 9 image (using 1.8/1.4GHz settings for the big.LITTLE cores for whatever reasons instead of 2.0/1.5GHz) I checked for heat dissipation with Pine Inc's huge heatsink first. Huge heatsink combined with thin thermal pad shows really nice thermal values: below 50°C when running cpuburn-a53 on two A53 and two A72 cores in parallel with a fan blowing above the heatsink's surface Board in upright positition still running same cpuburn-a53 task without fan after 20 minutes reports still below 85°C …

Just a small post about how to connect the PL2303HX RS-232 adaptor cable and the Real Time Clock. Do not trust the Banana pi photos as the I2C bus in the Lamobo/Banana PI R1 is inverted. As they say a picture is better than a thousand words. Often the online Banana PI/Lamobo PI diagrams can be confusing, and do not even try to guide yourself by Banana PI pinouts / photos of placement of hardware products/extensions. I will reiterate again, as this can be a source of confusion, the Banana PI is a rebranded Lamobo product, and the GPIO bus is different/rotated 180º. To scan the GPIO: $sudo i2cdetect -l i2c-0 i2c mv64xxx_i2c adapter I2C…

hello dear all , good evening dear Arm-Experts and all Armbian-supporters, normally i am on Banana-Pi and Orange-Pi, on Udoo and Ordoit - all of those run with Arm-Operating-Systems from this great site. today one little question - i have with Raspi: I’ve just purchased a Raspberry Pi 3 and i’ve installed OpenElec onto the raspi so that i can run the Kodi. After this step - after this first step - I’ve succesfully set it all up and i’ve managed to get the USB ports. It seems to be working with a wireless wifi dongle. And that seems pretty fantastic. I am glad about this. So the next thing i did is to add a keyboard.i took a wireles…

Hey Armbian Forums! First post here, so excuse me if I'm not in the exact correct subforums, but I spent the better part of last night compiling an Armbian image specifically for the Banana Pi M2, it says unsupported which makes sense, because finding any information or images for this board has been a nightmare, I got the original Banana Pi Armbian image to load on it, but from there couldn't not figure out how to get the wifi working for the life of me, the M2 has the allwinner A31 chip, and AMPAK bluetooth/wifi chip on board as well, but for some reason the board wasn't picking them up, even after trying to modprobe different drivers and whatever else. So I booted up m…

I am satisfied with the current OS. if possible I want to continue use buster until Debian 12 comes out, but I don't know how long will armbian support old debian releases. thanks a lot for the hint!

Original Article: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/linux-kernel-prior-to-508-vulnerable-to-remote-code-execution/ Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/bo6n2j/linux_kernel_prior_to_508_vulnerable_to_remote/ What does it mean for Armbian? I was just going to build a custom image for btrfs rootfs since I failed to get my SBCs with U-Boot to boot with it with an existing install for some reason even after moving /boot to an seperate etx4 partition ... OT: I really hate U-Boot and it's documentation, especially on the EspressoBin.

I am trying to use a DHT21 with a Lamobo R1 aka Banana PI R1 to read temperature and humidity, with Armbian/Jessie and a 4.5.2 kernel. A Lamobo R1 is basically an A20 board raspberry pi compatible, with an inverted compatible raspberry pi v2 bus. I have setup it up in GPIO5, raspberry pin compatible 24, WirinPi 5, physical pin 18, according to a table here, plus the GND and +5V pins. I tried to read the temperature and humidity with and without the recommended resistor. While the temperature is reading fine, and is also corroborated by a DS18b20 sensor connected to GPIO2, which indicates the setup is fine, the humidity is always at 99.9%. I have installed the WiringPi…

I have an ASUS Tinkerboard and I have been using Armbian 18.04, but I would like to know if there is a way to install the Ubuntu-Mate desktop? I tried the following after a fresh install of Armbian 18.04 and before I did anything else. I did not install any desktop from armbian-config. sudo apt update sudo apt install tasksel sudo apt install ubunutu-mate-desktop And while this looked promising and went through the motions (and it took forever), in the end it did not work. I only had the command prompt. Again I did not run anything from armbian-config yet. Thoughts on how to make this work? I assume it is possible. Thanks.

With Debian LTS, updates at least every week. Signatures don't work Stupid, childish pictures for idiots, called captchas are not shown security (!) checks can't be used. No administors can be reached because of github. Never. neve again answer this, I can't be reached in this forum. I can be reached by gleam@i2pmail.org being much more secure than all zhe securitythingies in this forum. Well, I do have a question armbianspecific: When will gnuit be made working for armbian? Oh and another one: Sinfo doesn't show the frequency of the CPU - to be made working. Why can't emails be sent to operators to be inserted in forum? Bye.

Hi all. As regular I was looking for news about a new Odroid. Finally the news arrived. The N2 will have the Amlogic S922X with 4xA73(@1.8Ghz) + 2xA53(@1.9Ghz), a Mali-G52 GPU and 4GB DDR4 RAM. Looks very promising. It should quite a bit faster than the RK3399's. It does have a giant heatsink, so this thing will get very hot I suppose. https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=176&t=33781&p=245930&hilit=n2#p245930 Please let me know what you all think of this. I find it very interesting. Greetings, NicoD

Hi, I have a few questions about the NanoPi R1 system. 1) The (USB > TTL) debug serial port is that 3.3v or 5v? I need to get the correct adapter. 2) Hooking up a serial debug cable is there enough room to close the front plate? 3) Can the system run from eMMc and get software upgraded from the SD-Card? 4) I could not not find clear procedures for this. Am not familiar with OpenWRT. 5) Can the Ethernet port be used to talk to a P.C. running Windows (putty) or would the micro-USB to P.C. be better? 6) I would eventually use WiFi for remote access and updates. 7) Can the NanoPi R1 run Apache WEB server? 8) Can …

Do any of you ever conformal coat your SBC's with clear nail polish or polyurethane to protect it from moisture to prevent corrosion? I usually coat the boards in my solar lights and they last MUCH longer...usually they die within a few months..the wires or components rusting thru. or silicon coating... like this https://www.amazon.com/MG-Chemicals-Silicone-Modified-Conformal/dp/B07BSK5S7B or acrylic coating...like this https://www.amazon.com/MG-Chemicals-Acrylic-Lacquer-Conformal/dp/B01HPS13SM I have found the nail polish seems to work well...others find it flakes off

Hi All. I have some confusion on Touchscreen interface. My ques is very basic on LCD interface types ... apologies for that. I like to use a 3.5" Touchscreen. So is there any possible way to use this Touchscreen with RK3328 based SBC like Rock64? On the other hand Allwinner H6 have RGB LCD port. But in Touchscreen Datasheet it said LCD Driver IC is ILI9488. As H6 have direct RGB Port so do we need to use this ILI9488 Driver? …

After talking about "the crazy idea" of use of this boards like light desktops in other thread with @JoeyBeelinkX2 : I start reading about ways to improve the performance. In this way I find an alternative scheduler specially conceived by responsiveness of desktop use, is called MuQSS http://ck-hack.blogspot.com.es/2016/10/muqss-multiple-queue-skiplist-scheduler.html I also find a kernel ready to use on x86 architectures (includes de MuQSS scheduler instead of CFS and BFQ instead of CFQ, while also adding more tweaks for responsiveness like proper QoS over TCP to avoid TCP congestion): https://liquorix.net/#install And my final questions: Can th…

I'm looking for current and upcoming PXE bootable SBCs. I guess if it has uboot on a SPI chip (like ROCK64, PINE64, espressobin, opi r1 ...) this is already a good indicator that it will support PXE boot. But I'm not 100% sure if PXE will really work, it seems to be rarely used for such boards. The only board I know which does not have uboot but can boot via PXE is the rpi 3. Maybe there are other ones. Some other boards like the nanopi duo could boot via a SPI chip attached to the respective GPIO pins. Maybe someone here knows other boards with PXE boot support or has tested it already?

Hi everyone, I would like to pick the brains of our fellow armbianers about powering the small boxes. My experience is that quality of the outlet, the in-the-wall circuit line, the health of the power strip, the actual voltage out of the plug, etc ... very much matter. How to best plug a system made of 5-6 devices (sbc+hard-drive+sata multiplier, dac, usb hub, usb wifi keys). Does phase, pluging orientation change something ? Is it possible to monitor via software the quality of the power signal from within the SBCs ? Interferences ? What kind of off the shelf instruments can help to monitor the power signal ? Do ferrites help ?…

Hi guys I'm desperately trying to get VPSD to run on my Cuboxi4Pro, I'm very close but need some help getting over the line. VPSD is a Serial to TCP hardware to software solution. I've run it on debian for years happily, I've now compiled it on armbian, there are two main components. An executable that is initiated with /etc/init.d/vspm which creates virtual devices in /dev/, this part is working fine. Then there is vspd which creates the daemon, the binary did get built but when I try and run it I get the following: root@cubox-i:~# /etc/init.d/vspd start starting vspd.../etc/init.d/vspd: line 47: /usr/local/vspd/sbin/vspd: cannot execute binary file [FAILURE] /etc…

I just released a new library to act as a DNS filter. This differs from pi-hole in that it runs as a user-level program and doesn't depend on dnsmasq. This allows you to run it on a machine without changing your network configuration. It hasn't been rigorously tested, but appears to work properly. It can either proxy the packets to a trusted DNS server or spoof the return address using RAW sockets to route the response back to the requestor. It can fool web pages (like CNN) as it blocks ads and replaces dynamic ad script requests with innocuous javascript responses. https://github.com/bitbank2/bb-hole

Please could someone one provide me with a solution to solve this issue. I'm not a guru when it comes to Linux programming, but I can run basic Linux commands and can find my way around terminal. I've seen a few solutions; like this (https://askubuntu.com/questions/894460/automatically-adjust-display-brightness-based-on-sunrise-and-sunset), where they get the sunrise and sunset times of the day from a website and use a Cron script to set the screen brightness based on that. So I'm working on a generic way to do MMIO GPIO on Armbian and chatting with @diozeroit seems like a wiringPi implementation is a good place to start for ideas. Armbian supports many FriendlyArm boards, so I took a look at https://github.com/friendlyarm/WiringNP. Of course out of the box it fails because it's probing for things found only in its home made OS distros. I found a way to hack the getBoardType function to hard code your board type for Armbian and probably other distros. This will work only on the board you hack it for. Honestly there should have been a way to pass in a parameter to override the detection code. In any event here's the method to use. …

I just released the source code to a very simple weather monitoring app. I wrote it to run on my Orange Pi Zero and make use of a few environmental sensors (Bosch BME280 and AMS CCS811), along with a SSD1306 OLED. It records the data every ten seconds into a CSV text file. https://github.com/bitbank2/weather_mon It's just a simple idea that I had to monitor the conditions overnight in my kids' bedroom since our place doesn't heat/cool evenly.

I'm currently on the hunt for the cheapest decently reliable board to use for building a glusterfs cluster. Requirements are simple: GbE, SATA port, arm64, preferably low power. While helios64 is obviously the way to go for a NAS when it lands, it's totally overkill for a setup like this and I just realized that ODROID HC2 won't fly due to being 32-bit only. Most other 64-bit boards require expansion boards for SATA, which drags up the total cost. Finally I realized that the PC Engines APU boards fit all criteria, and come with what I understand to be performant GX-412TC CPUs. This one, for example, for 86EUR (maybe a bit on the pricey side, but I have…

First and foremost, I appreciate everything I've seen come from Armbian, back from when it was being "hosted on an OrangePi" to update after update of newly released boards to expanding to include this Forum. Thanks, Igor and other contributors. What you're doing is awesome. Anyways, I'm starting to find the Forum to be kind of hard to navigate, threads are pretty jumbled and topics kind of globbed together. I was just wondering why that is, if there's plans to smooth out those edges, etc..? Or is it just me? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a medium to go to than nothing at all. Just looking for a little insight into the plans for the look and functionality of thi…

Hi, I have a question regarding standard DNS server entry in resolv.conf: The Google DNS 8.8.8.8 is at the top followed by the one supplied by my DHCP service. That way the Google server will be queried first, which I think is wrong, considering privacy implications. Why is it hardcoded anyway? As I understand it, it comes from /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head? this should not include anything. Would be nice If somebody could clarify why it is implemented that way. Thanx

For those of you running a large SBC cluster - what is your solution for powering your boards. I currently have a cluster of 18 boards that I am powering with several multiport usb chargers. My setup does work well but I am looking for alternative solutions. I'm thinking of expanding my cluster to 50 or more boards and I don't like the prospect of purchasing so many of these multiport chargers as they're a little bit expensive. And I also don't know about the long term reliability of my current setup as I have only been going for about 2 months now. I would love to hear about and see other people's SBC cluster powering solutions. EDIT: …

hey, I'm having some trouble with my ssh connection to an armbian based server. It feels like a heavy lag within the filesystem, sometimes it takes up to 20 seconds to open a file with vim or use cd with tab-completion. But it is not always there, it feels more like some heavy write operation occurs spontaneously. I start digging but I have no clue why this happens. But at least I found the most disk I/O processes which are influxdb and mysql. I am not a big fan of btrfs in general. But rather than shit up other people's threads where they mention it, I decided to create my own here where I can lay out my arguments, and then I can link to it instead and people can read it if they want. Some people are not going to like to hear this, so I will back it up by saying I have done fair amount of research into these advanced file systems over the last several years. It is a topic of great interest for me. At the same time, I view all knowledge as provisional, and maybe some things changed in the meantime, so discussion and factual corrections are welcomed. I will also try and spare the reade…

My MXQ Pro died and I'm looking for a cheap replacement with onboard wifi. My requirement is to run a desktop app (WSJT-X) on a headless device with tightvnc server to my android tablet. WSJT-X uses a soundcard, so I need at least one USB port. Not sure if I can do this but I'd also like the new sbc to be the hotspot that my tablet connects to. In the past I've used a cell phone as a hotspot with the MXQ and tablet connecting to it. It would be nice to remove the cell phone from the equation. Thanks.

IMHO, XR819 is killing the OPi0 golden goose...All else looks so perfect for the price ! Can't they just go back to RTL8189 in the next couple production batches? Will that make life easier? Ironic to hear that XR819 has its own ARM core- what good is the core? What is the prospect of Xunlong offering a eMMC 4-8GB version of OPi0? SD cards are expensive and unreliable, plus can add an SD card drive for more memory. And adding a power barrel to the $2 expansion board that is otherwise just what is needed, maybe make it $2.50? My take: OPi0 v2 512MB, say $12-15, with RTL8189, 4-8 GB eMMC + $2.50 expansion board adding power barrel + Armbian OS = market winn…

Hi, my rpi 4 with 4GB ram is now on my desk but I cannot find armbian for it: looking at github build repo I do not see any file regarding raspberry pi in general. So... is anyone interested to help me to work on it? Is there an armbian interest in having a Raspberry PI build? Why historically I cannot see any sign of interested in those boards? Please... I know of all of their HW limitations... but they sell millions of boards each year... it is clear that some million people out there find them useful so we (as community) should to deliver an armbian build for this SBC. I am running on fedora as can be seen here. Fedora is not device-specific, only architecture-specific. If you want to experiment, drop in a distro-boot capable u-boot for your device in the firmware area and you should be good enough to go. I have never tested my image on a different device so YMMV.

Hello! I wish to make my OrangePi 'failsafe' in regards of spontaneous power losses and such, so I need to have it running write protected, with writes going to a special partition or just RAM. My searches yielded an 'ancient' way to freeze the root filesystem using overlayroot, which isn't supoprted anymore (https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/) As I think that this kind of 'headless embedded usage' is an usual scenario for SBC running Armbian and having seen there was a method for doing so before, I assume there probably is a popular modern method for doing so, but I couldn' find it. How would I do this with the…
