I just picked up a USB-C hub, it has 3 USB 3.0 ports, 2 SD card slots (standard and micro), a DVI and a GbE ethernet. Using it with my NanoPC T4, and a test with the Renegade Elite (not Armbian) both showed an odd behavior with the GbE, the driver loads, but then claims it doesn't recognize the device after reading it's firmware. Does anyone else have an adapter based on this chip? My cell phone recognized it and used it right away [ 2186.114873] r8152 7-1.4:1.0 (unnamed net_device) (uninitialized): Unknown version 0x6010 [ 2186.114896] r8152 7-1.4:1.0 (unnamed net_device) (uninitialized): Unknown Device ok, found a rejected patch, so some digging shoul…

Hi, professionals! I want to control an Armbian Linux system from my remote desktop. I installed the following servers one after another: vino, xrdp, vnc4. But the connection didn't work out. I cannot connect to the Armbian board from a remote Windows machine. If you don't mind, please share your successful experience. Thanks in advance.

Relatively random topic, however who here has one/uses one? I just picked up a Sain Smart Genmitsu Pro, 3018 size. I actually got it working with my NanoPi K2 first, because why not? And bCNC seems like quite a nice program, I assume when I move this to my shop it will be sporting a 7" touchscreen and a stable board.

Hey all, wasn't sure where to post this so I figured here is fine. I was wonderng: Is there a repository of older armbian releases? Specifically: Tinkerboard S Armbian Bionic 4.19.y Desktop Kernel. For the past couple months I've been developing on my ASUS Tinkerboard S running the Armbian Bionic 4.19.y Desktop release. However, sometime recently, the updated 4.4.y release came out for Armbian Bionic Desktop. I tried it, and it turns out one of the updates actually break a decent part of my system I had working (partly due to the lack nodm on the system now, which was warned). I'll update my system eventually, but it's not really worth it for the …

For those interested I made some improvements in the GLES display backend of uae4arm: https://github.com/Chips-fr/uae4arm-rpi I tested it on Armbian on my orange Pi Pc+ (H3), was able to get 50fps for some games. The only remaining issue is that vsync is not activated and tearing occurs. Does anyone know how to solve this ? Feel free to try on others boards...

I followed the steps outlined in the instructions, and they worked very well for me with (10 ISPs) 4G dongles using PPP connections. TV Box Model tested: MXQ Pro 4K, 5G (H3 Allwinner), ISO: Sunvell 69. I started with Debian 10 and later upgraded to Debian 11. I also use a second USB 3.0 LAN card, as well as the dongles connected through a USB hub with an independent power supply. For more information, you can check the following resources: Installing the Perl dependencies took some time. Why dont you provide support to the Banana pi single boards ? Many of them very interesting. Support is also very weak and short. I know that the last 2 boards from bananpi were based on mediatek and realtek CPU. ( R2 W2 ) They was specialized single boards as router and storage NAS board. why not to try?

Can anyone recomend any displays to be used with these boards? Current options i have are "modified keychain / photoframe" attached to usb bus and or standard HDMI devices im thinking along the lines of an LVDS displayor something driven from the GPIO pins, has anyone any experience with this or am i alone in the dark? Links would be good as this may also benefit others. EDIT : scratch that for the Opi-One, its a camera connector.. will stick with the hacked photoframe idea

I stopped tinkering for a while but https://magicmirror.builders/ perked my interest and been grinning at such a simple project and generally think its really great. I think they have made some odd options as the server and electron browser have been lumped together which is a really strange choice for absolutely no advantage. The server does need restarts and would seem far more often than you would expect and the use of electron means armv7l only which is a shame for the 0/1 owners. You can install using chromium and you certainly don't need the load of a desktop?! Dunno been wondering. I wanted to use a zero as love that tiny footprint and price and there are…

Hi, Idea is to run a wireguard server having two ethernet devices, therefore added an USB3 adapter "ASIX AX88179" to my rockpi4a. I like to allow incoming traffic, incl SSH, on "eth1". Instead, outgoing, on eth0 ( RTL8211E ) I wrote following ( preps, nmcli, iptables ) up - but perhaps there is an easier approach and I am sure I am missing other (routing) stuff, for sure the forwarding part. I never know what to get anyone. If I'm being honest I have more than a little disdain for how commercialized the holidays have become nowadays. We were not raised in a materialistic way growing up. A lot of gifts were socks and other actually useful things like that (which I only appreciate now as I get older ). Anyway... So when some of the guys shared some pictures of themselves with some Armbian swag in IRC a while back, a little light bulb went off in my head. So this morning, I went nuts and spent > 400 USD sending everyone in my family some Armbian swag. I figure, it's a good way to get the word out there to friends and family ab…

So, I'm working on the new armbian-config and I need to test cpufreq on a real board as VMs don't support this. I was surprised a lot of my older boards are not supported. C1, Duo, M1, etc. They all seemed to get killed off. I don't mind building my own Jammy, but does anyone know why these were killed off? I'm going to use my Neo Plus2 which is supported.

ok i successfully installed the os, i'll come back later with more feedback. at the moment everything seems to work but this: some midi devices are just ignored when some are working (i guess it must be driver related) because i think the midi device that isn't working is so old (pre 2000 i believe) i dont think midi device was class compliant at time time (i.e.: i need a driver on OS X for it) that is ok, my nice yamaha keyboard and my drums works. nice.... bluetooth support seems to be broken, i can list devices, but not connect to them. i havent tested with my ad2p compatible devices yet. the devices are: microsoft 6000 bluetooth keyboard and a …

Java U8g2 is a high performance library based on U8g2: Library for monochrome displays, version 2. Rather than try to code the JNI by hand I used HawtJNI to generate the JNI wrappers. Hi to all, I have a OPi One and I just have a question: I'd like to use it as mediacenter but als like retroconsole. So, my doubt is: 1. do I need to have 2 sd card one with openelec and one with retropie? Or can I have one that do both? I don't know maybe openelec can execute retroarch with lakka gui? I know that I could use armbian with kodi and retroarch installed, but I try to find something that is confortable to use with a tv. 2. this question is related to the previous one: Opi1 has 1 usb port, can I use a normal usb hub or I need to use an hub that has external power? I plan to attach 1 hdd, a wifi key and a bt key. 3. where I could find a list of su…

Hello all And firstly I would like to congratulate you and thank you for a cracking little distro. I recently purchased an OrangePi-One amid all the hype of the Pi-Zero to give the Opi a try out. after having tried the images available on the manufacturers site and learning there shortcomings I resolved to build my own image. I was pointed to your site by a member over at http://forum.doozan.com and I must say I am blown away by what you have achieved and distribute!!! You have saved me the pain of building my own OS by applying all the relevant patches. I will be testing your images out for my own needs and should I be able to make any contribution over and abov…

Hi, i own a Libre Computer Le Potato (AML-S905X-CC) board and i would like to compile my own customized kernel to try patches for bug fixing and experimenting unstable "features", like lima driver. The problem is that i currently use this board as daily driver and i would like the possibility to have a backup kernel (a stable one) in case something goes wrong. So the question is: it is possible to have multiple installed kernel and decide which one boot (like GRUB behaviour) using the uboot bootloader? If it is impossible, i'm sorry for the stupid question. I don't know how exactly the boot sequence works, from a low level point of view. Thanks a …

Hi Armbian folks, I’m new to the forum and joined today (07:42 PM CEST, July 20, 2025). I’ve recently started playing around with single-board computers, like an Orange Pi 5 I set up with Armbian a while back—it’s been a fun challenge! I’m based in Poland and enjoy tinkering with tech in my spare time. I’d love to hear what brings you all here—any cool hobbies or projects you’re working on? I’m thinking of trying something simple like a media server or smart home setup, but I’m open to ideas. What do you enjoy doing with your SBCs or other gear? Looking forward to chatting with you!

On my journey to finding the best solution for cross SBC/cross language GPIO support I went through the same issues as Python by the C side author did it seems and landed on CFFI. This is faster than ctypes and seem more natural to program with. ctypesgen (the code generator) doen't really support Python 3, so I've hit a dead end there. It seems like JNA is still the best choice for Java bindings, so I'm sticking with that for now. In any event I threw together a button press app that uses CFFI and libgrpiod. I'll be updating my bindings project to support this soon. libgpiod version 1.1.devel Name: gpiochip1, label: 1f02c00.pinctrl, lines: 32 Press button…

As some might imagine, you can buy a bunch of different ribbon cables on Aliexpress. Different pitches, pins, etc... I could just buy the camera module but I would like an extended cable for my uses, just to be safe. It looks like the one it comes with is prolly only 6 inches. I can't quite discern from the product listings the type of ribbon cable used for OPi cameras and I'd like to know so that I can bundle it with my next purchase. So, if anyone who has one, can provide pictures (with something reliable to scale) or details, it would be much appreciated. If I find an extension option that proves to work, I'll post it here. Ubuntu LTS 20.04 will probably have XFCE 4.14, which is based on GTK3. I have XFce 4.14 installed on an x86 Arch Linux machine. Unfortunately, the GUI is heavy. Hi all, I'm interested in developing and selling a product containing an Orange Pi or Raspberry Pi with embedded software protected by Intellectual Property. I would like it to be as hard as possible for a customer/hacker to get root access or steal software or data out of it. I found the OrangePi to have an 8GB eMMC which would be enough for both OS and our data and probably would be more secure than SD. I'm aware of how to secure network and application layers, but how to secure the device from a customer/hacker who bought the device and thus have physical access to it? I would like to prevent or make it very hard for him to read the eMMc memory or g…

I have an orange pi plus 2e running 24/7 as a file server, torrent box, plex server, pi-hole etc. It has been running fine for the first few months I have gotten it. Recently the usb HDD that is connected to it started disconnecting often during heavy loads ( downloading torrents) or sometimes randomly. I assumed that it was the usb power adapter fault ( I used a samsung 5a 2v power adapter ) and I replaced it with an identical one. However the problem still persist. Could it be the usb to barrel plug cable that is sold from aliexpress be at fault?

Hi, I wonder if there exists one method to make the end user a friendly way to access the web server. So I have Armbian with hotspot enabled, if I want to look at specific web page running on the board, I have to know the IP of the wlan0 and specific port of the web server. For example in google chrome I have to insert: http://172.24.1.1:3000 This is very difficult for end user, who has minimal knowledge. Is there any way, that for example you log on the hotspot, then open google chrome and start browse for any arbitrary page (let's say www.google.com) at port 80 and then it's automatically redirected to port 3000, except for all other web servers on the same…

Hello! I've just recently gotten a few (okay, several. I might have a problem here.) small single-board computers and I'm thoroughly in love with them. I also purchased a few small LCDs so I could make small independent thing that wouldn't require a huge display - perhaps even portable ones. While I do enjoy using the terminal for practically anything (give me lynx, rtv, byobu and the likes and I'm happy), there are certain advantages in a graphical user interface. But let's face it, the default UIs with modern window managers are... not exactly designed for small, low-res screens. With a 800x480 screen it's plausible to use just a normal WM and be rather fine…

I have been searching the net for a display similar to this one: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Orange-Pi-7-inch-LVDS-LCD-Module-7-Touch-Screen-F-Raspberry-Pi-Car-GPS/1553371_32315435767.html . Unfortunately the original from the link is not available anymore and I am unable to find a good replacement. Does anyone have a good alternative they are using? Size wise a 7" or 10" (or even up to 12" :-) ) will do the job.. Thanks!

Hi, I was checking the Rock Pi 4C, because of it’s dual display capabilities (I have two monitors and will like to use them in extended mode) But according to this: https://shop.allnetchina.cn/collections/frontpage/products/rock-pi-4c-board-only-2-4-5ghz-wlan-bluetooth-5-0 a mini DP to HDMI is not supported, both of my monitors are HDMI only. I thought that the conversion was merely hardware. Could someone explain this or give me a recommendation for an ARM board supporting multiple (hdmi) displays? Thanks

I've posted in the Armbian forums in the past about Kerberos.io video surveillance software. For some reasons it was (at the time) not always that easy or impossible to compile or get it up and running. But: Times have changed (for the good this time!) and I've tried it again on a H3 1GB memory OrangePi plus with kernel 5.4 using a *FRESH and CLEAN* Ubuntu Bionic Server image. I was able to get the Kerberos software 2.8.0 up and running straight away, just by *EXACT* following the instructions on the website of Kerberos.io (Generic installation Instructions page). It takes some time to compile ffmpeg and the machinery module, but it is certainly worth the eff…

Hi Everyone. I'm having trouble updating to TLS 1.2 on my pcDuino 3 and cannot connect to any website other than Google.com or pinging 8.8.8.8 See attached return from my terminal when attempting to run "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install --only-upgrade openssl" Seems http://www.wiimu.com from what I can tell is a server from a company called LinkSprite. I think the company has disbanded and no longer offers any services… Also seems LinkSprite was lead/CEO by a guy named Jingfeng Liu who is the creator of pcDuino. Also Link Sprite does not monitor their forums nor respond to queries of any sort. There’s got to b…

Hi, I just had a huge boost on my Internet speed (1Gbs down / 600Mbps up), it's a good thing but it showed that many of my SBC that are running 24/7 are not ready to handle such high bandwidth. In each case running a curl outputting to /dev/null -> I almost top out the Gigabit interface -> 99Mo/s. When I test download speed (while saving on disk) : * Old Banana pi running kernel 4.14.18-sunxi (armbian of course but not updated with stretch) with an Kingston SSD on the SATA port -> cannot go over 12~14Mo/s (Mo/s not Mb/s) * Orange Pi +2E running 4.19.62-sunxi (armbian with ubuntu Bionic) with a Sandisk SSD on usb2 wi…

I just released the source code to a very simple weather monitoring app. I wrote it to run on my Orange Pi Zero and make use of a few environmental sensors (Bosch BME280 and AMS CCS811), along with a SSD1306 OLED. It records the data every ten seconds into a CSV text file. https://github.com/bitbank2/weather_mon It's just a simple idea that I had to monitor the conditions overnight in my kids' bedroom since our place doesn't heat/cool evenly.

Noobie interested in learning the simple basics of how single board computers are built? While I have a Orange Pi, have bought a cheap China made Ardunio, with header and USB cable with delivery for under 3 quid ( mad how they do these pieces 😀) and just starting to learn as a maker. I want to learn more basics about how these SBC board work, are built, but I am not technically trained. Years ago I could put a Windows machine together from boards, parts and install operating system. So does anyone know a good forum to ask questions and read up on SBC boards in easy to understand English language. I would love to know how they design the GPIO and connec…

In general I want to know, how many arm mainboards is it required to order and the manufacturer starts negotiating about specifications you want to get modified? I do not say at the same price. If I tell the manufacturer of the orange pi one, I want the arm mainboard but it must have 4gb ram and usb mini b connectors at what volume number does the manufacturer start listening? 50000 mainboards? Thank you.

What do you think about SBCs as the preferred platform to handle encrypted/sensitive/classified data? The threat model would be for frequent travelers, against things like evil maid attacks on laptops left in a hotel room or while the laptop is separated from you during travel. The sensitive data would be kept on an encrypted portable hard drive. It would be decrypted and mounted by the SBC, which only allows login via SSH from your laptop's public key. SBCs have a number of benefits over desktops and laptops, namely: Its hardware is plainly inspectable and difficult to tamper with. Unlike desktops or laptops which are vulnerable to evil ma…

i want to dive into the creating of file-systems on Linux. so i have some ideas: can you give me some hints on these steps. can i break all down and say so: - in order to do the very first steps in creating a file system ... basically, I'm trying to do the following steps: - create a disk image of about 500MB; - create a GPT; - create a FAT32 partition in the first 300MB(I'll call it UEFI); - create a FAT32 partition in the remaining bytes(I'll call it SYSTEM); - create the following subdirectory in the UEFI partition: /EFI/BOOT/; that said we have the following things: Layouting a disk image and copyin…

Hello Armbian Forum! I hope you are all well. It's been more than 5 years since I last visited here, a lot of things has changed in my life since then. I saw my posts complaining about apt speed, that I could get 200kbps speed, now I am building +200gbps infrastructures for tens of thousands of servers. I felt a little bit of nostalgia visiting this forum because of that. And here I am, just I wanted to say hi! I hope you all also had a great time in the last 5 years just like me.

Is there a good resource for what's currently being developed by the major SBC manufacturers? I am curious about what is being developed and when it is coming out. I'm thinking about expanding my cluster by another 10 or 20 nodes but I don't want to invest now if something great is going to be released soon. I am most interested in FriendlyARM and OrangePi boards as they seem to have a good performance/value ratio around the $35 price point but I am interested in what all major manufacturers are doing. Is there anywhere to read about development? Or is anyone here privy to what's next for low cost ARM based SBCs?

For those of you running a large SBC cluster - what is your solution for powering your boards. I currently have a cluster of 18 boards that I am powering with several multiport usb chargers. My setup does work well but I am looking for alternative solutions. I'm thinking of expanding my cluster to 50 or more boards and I don't like the prospect of purchasing so many of these multiport chargers as they're a little bit expensive. And I also don't know about the long term reliability of my current setup as I have only been going for about 2 months now. I would love to hear about and see other people's SBC cluster powering solutions. EDIT: …

First and foremost, I appreciate everything I've seen come from Armbian, back from when it was being "hosted on an OrangePi" to update after update of newly released boards to expanding to include this Forum. Thanks, Igor and other contributors. What you're doing is awesome. Anyways, I'm starting to find the Forum to be kind of hard to navigate, threads are pretty jumbled and topics kind of globbed together. I was just wondering why that is, if there's plans to smooth out those edges, etc..? Or is it just me? Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have a medium to go to than nothing at all. Just looking for a little insight into the plans for the look and functionality of thi…

Goodmorning, i would like to ask if someone have ever tried to use musl libc with Armbian. From some research appear that using it instead of glibc make programs consume a lot less ram and less space on disk. I never tried personally, but i'm curious about that because it could be especially useful for single board computer with less than 2gb of ram (like mine ). Since, from what i know, programs do not statically link to glibc, but dynamically link to a generic libc at runtime, could be possible to use musl as drop in replacement for libc, without rebuild everything? From what i know there could be some incompatibilities because glibc does not fully respect the…

There are many people who tend to use old phone chargers on there systems and wonder why things become problematic after a good while of usage. My recommendations to people who have this issue are the following 1 - if you are a *SERIOUS* modder or electronics engineer you will know all about bench power supplies and there benefits. 2 - for others who aren't in this category. I would like to share with you my preferred method to deliver power to dev boards. I utilse these shown in the link below. I have found these type to be incredibly stable after 18 months of running one nonstop on a live system i can happily describe them as rock solid and superbly over…

When launching ddd in Armbian 4.5.1, the prompt isn't set properly and the terminal operation inside ddd isn't right. Launching gdb by itself works OK. When I try to load my executable for debugging, I get You can't do that when your target is `None' When I exit ddd, it complains that gdb is still busy. Anyone else seeing this? Why would ddd running natively under Armbian need to know its target when it doesn't need that anywhere else where its used natively? Chris

Hi there, I was wondering how to get the audio running on the NanoPI NEO. It has line-out PINs and I read the H3 has SPDIF which should be the correct output. So I found this post: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/1891-spdif-output-on-nanopi-m1/and changed my fex . Anyway, that seems to be for the older kernel. What exactly do I need for version 4+? I am using Gentoo and the sources from https://github.com/megous/linux . The modules seem to be different and that's what I got right now: sun4i_i2s 6408 0 sun4i_codec 12657 0 sun4i_spdif 5087 0 snd_soc_core 132869 3 sun4i_codec,sun4i_i2s,sun4i_s…

spent most of today trying to get a USB-wifi adapter working on my OrangePiOne... connman_ctl wpa_supplicant (with and without wpa_cli), iw... you name it, I've probably tried it. Then, when restarting for the umpteenth time, in a rare moment of diminished stupidity, I actually read the "message of the (every) day" which is shown when you login successfully, It mentioned 'armbian-config' ... which i decided to give a try... Five minutes later I had working wifi - which works again after a restart without further configuration! So, a note to myself: be sure to RTFM (= Read the Fabulous Message of the day)! At least this was on my home pr…
