After happily using my helios64 with armbian buster for years I finally dared to upgrade and everything went smoothly. I found instructions somewhere here in this forum and this is what I did. I first commented out /etc/apt/sources.list.d/armbian.list Then I upgraded to bullseye by replacing everything buster with bullseye in /etc/apt/sources.list (I think I also had to change the url to the security repo) Then I did apt-get update && apt full-upgrade and rebooted. Great success! Then the same for bookworm and again great success. Then reenabled the armbian …

Hi, I was testing images for Orange Pi 4 w/o eMMC, official from site, Debian and Ubuntu from ARMbian, and suddenly any boots anymore. I tried desperately everything, write with another program, used dd for copy, pressed randomly bottoms attached in the back, then one time worked, but it crashed when i attached a keyboard. Later all my micro-sd cards worked, most of them are poor quality, could be that but idk, my power adapter came from official website. # ls usb doesn't show hid I have a cp2012 usb to tll, i can use it for serial debug ?

After Seeing all that spi nmve boot hype for the other boards and some time left i took the effort to level up the Orange Pi boards because they are the same as the rest it has a rk3399. The Uboot was a mess so i matched it with the kerenel dts a lot and corrected some issues. Dts debug is not the friendliest debug it compiles or not And after some trial and error (a lot ) and finding a spi nor flash wich is supported (or you add one of your own) it costs a esp8266 has 4mb spi flash or a old printer who had a 4mb and 8mb i got a boot from spi so . and with reading the armbian forum i saw 150balbes talked about usb boot and didnt know …

I am trying to provision QEmu/KVM to run a Kubernetes cluster based on Ubuntu Cloud Image instances. I am using the latest release of Armbian on 16GB Rock 5B. Release kernel. I have spent 7 hours now trying to connect to my Neo3 via my laptop using a USB to Ethernet Adapter. Ive also tried changing the nanopi microsd card image to see if it has any effect. from Ubuntu / Armbian / DietPi. When im powering on my Neo3, with ubuntu only the red led shows, with the other two, the Red LED shows plus the green LED flashes. Is this actually possible? Can I plug my Neo into my laptop with a ethernet usb adapter? or does it have to be into a router? I've recently switched my FriendlyElec NanoPC-T6 to use the Armbian Linux v6.12 server image, built on the 24th of May 2025. Booting of SD works fine, but when installing to the eMMC chip some I/O errors can be found in the kernel logs: [ 151.814773] I/O error, dev mmcblk0, sector 176 op 0x0:(READ) flags 0x80700 phys_seg 10 prio class 2 This happens when under heavy I/O load - e.g. performing an apt upgrade. I ran badblocks over the entire eMMC chip without issue - but that puts a much lower strain on the eMMC. Therefore, i'm convinced that the eMMC chip itself is fine. Poking around a bit, this seems to be because the A3A444 eMMC chip whi…

Hi guys, I still have two 21.5-inch tablets here, on which I would like to install Armbian. The mainboard is a Sunchip AD-Z33 V1.1 with an RK3288 on board. The board has 2GB RAM and 8 GB flash memory. However, it also has an LVDS slot to which the touchdisplay is connected. Here you can see the equipment in detail: https://www.embeddedsystemboard.com/sale-11364924-rk3288-industrial-arm-board-multi-function-linux-os-i2c-interface-touch-screen.html Do you think that Armbian runs on it and that the functions are still available? Or maybe an RK3288 ArmbianTV box version could run on this as an alternative?

On my Odroid M1 which used to run kernel 6.6.63 / armbian 24.11.3 noble from NVME, an update to kernel 6.12.9 arrived this morning. Afterwards the machine failed to detect an external USB disk. Servus! I'm running an "old" Helios64, still with debian buster and kernel 5.9.14-rockchip64 ... pretty much the same installation, as I had setup the Helios64 years ago. So far it is running great, with no real issues. I have ZFS running on it, with 3 disks. Today I decided to upgrade to something new - and installed Armbian 25.5.1 / Nobel - with kernel "6.12.32-current-rockchip64". Helios64 boots up and everything seems to work fine. I was able to import my ZFS pool and it was accessible - however, when I do heavy i/o, e.g. md5sum on a big file, I get a lot of these errors: Jun 08 20:06:36 helios64 kernel: ata2.00: failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED J…

Hello everybody, bought a Rock64 4 GB recently and I´m not able to boot it with any provided armbian Debian/Ubuntu image. With the Ubuntu Image ethernet doesnt seem to be initialized and with Debian there is activity on the eth port, but no connection, neither of the images show any output on the screen. Also i tried various SD-Cards and different image burning programs. Openmediavault works flawlessly, so I can exclude Hardware issues.

Hi all, This has confused me! I have an old copy Armbian_20.02.7_Nanopim4_buster_current_5.4.28_desktop.7z which works fine. Any SD cards I put it on using Balena Etcher works. Any of the latest versions simply won't boot. The only difference appears to be the XZ file format. I extracted one of the later ones using 7Zip and then Etcher to flash and as expected it mad no difference at all. Has something been done to the V1 firmware from the V2 that doesn't work or firmwares containing the wrong naming etc? Help!

I have a rock 4b+ and I used it as an android box for a while. Then today I tried to flash it with latest armbian image (23.8.1) and it does not boot in microSD or when I flash it through USB OTG. I have erased the SPI flash completely and install the correct spi_loader. It also boots properly with Radxa debian image. Initially I though this is a boot issue, but after checking with a serial cable, it turns out this is a HDMI issue.. After I finish the usual procedure to setup password etc... I got this: Now starting desktop environment... root@rockpi-4b:~# [ 633.211385] hdmi-audio-codec hdmi-audio-codec.5.auto: Only one simultaneous stream su…

Hi, I have a USB device that periodically hangs. Reboot or re-plug helps, but I need something lighter. I've seen several discussions on the problem of resurrecting hanging USB devices, but their solutions seems devices specific. Non on them worked in my case. I tried ioctl with USBDEVFS_RESET among other methods. uhubctl didn't work too (it seems it only sees EHCI hub, while my device is USB3.0 and connected to XHCI). Ideally the solution should depower a single USB connector to let the device fully reset and then get it connected back.

Hi, I'm currently facing strange problems... I'm using NanoPi and operate some USB devices with it. Since I wanted to know the total power consumption of the system, I measured current which flows into NanoPi from the outlet. The current during while the camera working was very nice (about 1A) so I shut the pi down. Then, I found that the total current value gradually rose up from about 1A to 1.5A. This seems to be so strange because when it gets shutdown, the power should be off as well, and the pi only needs small amount of power just to light the red LED. I tried a few times but the result was always same... …

Dear Armbian supporters, Using kernel 5.10.21-rockchip64 on Rock Pi 4 (and 5.10.21-sunxi on Lime2), I am not able to mount a LUKS-encrypted drive. Changing the kernel to 5.10.16-rockchip64/5.10.16-sunxi I am able to mount the LUKS-encrypted drive again. Error message when trying to mount the drive is: "No key available with this passphrase". Which change could have introduced this bug? Greetings a5s397

Hi - First, thanks for building armbian, it's so useful! I'm a bit confused with the status of Rock 5A. I saw the link in the 5B section to download the 5A which directs me here https://mirror-us-phx1.armbian.airframes.io/dl/rock-5a/archive/ to a 23.8.3. But I can't find any other desktop version except the XFCE one. Now, if I go there https://k-space.ee.armbian.com/archive/rock-5a/archive/ I have a cinnamon desktop version but it's a 23.5. Is there no build for 23.8 + cinnamon or is this a mirror issue? Or is the Rock5A not yet officially supported and I should move my question?

I can keep the board slightly below 70C if I add multiple fans pointed at the heat sink, however I would like a better solution. I was wondering if setting the max frequency of the co…

Hi, i have successfully installed my new helios64 and enabled zfs. Everythings works so far, but it seems I'm missing something "important" in regards to ZFS. I did the following tests: I took one of my WD 4TB Plus drives (in slot 3) and formatted the disk with a) ext4 (mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdc) b) btrfs (mkfs.btrfs /dev/sdc) and c) zfs (zpool create test /dev/sdc). Based on these 3 formats I did a "dd if=/dev/zero of=test2.bin bs=1GB count=5" to measure write performance and a "dd if=test2.bin of=/dev/null" to get the read performance (all tests were done 3 times, results averaged) The results I got look like this: a) ext4 ...…

I don't expect an answer at this point but FYI, the eMMC on a Rock5a and latest image does not work properly. It mounts and as soon as you start writing, errors occurs and the FS (ext4) is remounted RO. It happens whether I mount and write manually or I use the armbian-config to transfer the system on the eMMC. Using the Debian distro of radxa, I can write as much as I want on the eMMC w/o errors, so it does not seem to be a failed module, rather something in the armbian kernel. 2023-10-10T17:05:03.106367-07:00 rock-5a kernel: [62335.087809] Buffer I/O error on device mmcblk0p1, logical block 648585 2023-10-10T17:05:04.109720-07:00 rock-5a kernel: [62336.091…

Hi folks, I am puzzled. When I am away for a few days I usually shut down my nas. It does indeed shut down but over night comes up again. Now I would like to know what triggers that unwanted restart here... I am currently on 21.08.3 Buster with Linux rockchip64 5.10.63 and do have OMV running... I could unplug the battery next time but I'd rather solve the issue the correct way. It's strange to me because I did not change any system parameters in OMV or via SSH. I do believe that an update to the latest kernel did mess things up. Where do I have to have a look?

Hello, I need your expert help to resolve an issue on my newly purchased orange pi 5b. I was able to install armbian xfce desktop os on emmc but am unable to correctly run a purchased csi mipi camera module (OV13850). Attached are some screen grabs, I do see rk3588-ov13850-c1 appear in overlays row of armbianEnv.txt upon toggling the selection in the armbian-config. Cheese application shows message "There was an error playing video from the webcam" upon opening the application (i also installed flatpak cheese as per some comment in a forum to test). I also tested connecting camera on rk3588-ov13850-c3 but face the same issue. Is th…

Hello. I have a Tinkerboard "regular" (without internal memory). My OS is Armbian 23.02.2 Lunar. I tried many times updating to Armbian 23.10 but system always brokes. Previously, I ever can update earlier versions without problems. I post in another topic this problem and finally, a forum member showed me that the problem was that there were no drivers for my internal storage in this version. So, my hope now lies in whether I can upgrade to Armbian 24.5.1. I also want to upgrade because the audio drivers haven't been working for a long time and I've tried a thousand things described in different forums. So, in short, how can I upgrade WITHOUT making a new i…

Hi, Tested the current build (Armbian_19.11.3_Rockpi-4b_buster_current_5.3.11_desktop.7z) on a Rock Pi 4 v1.3. Working well so far the past couple of hours. Its an amazing feeling to be able to run the mainline kernel with so little issues. Some minor things: The Red Led keeps on blinking with this build. Earlier it only blinked if there was error while booting. New to this board, so this maybe incorrect. I booted up Radxa image and there also red light was blinking. Sound via 3.5 mm jack not working. Inserted earphone, no output. Sound via HDMI works. Thanks for your work. Edit- System info: aaditya…

I suggest adding a small patch for all u-boot for rk33xx. It allows to enable direct booting from USB media and significantly facilitates the use of RK33xx models for users. Allows you to easily launch any system from USB without the need for complex settings and manipulations with existing (main) systems on devices on SD or eMMC. The entire path fits in two lines. https://github.com/150balbes/Build-Armbian/blob/master/patch/u-boot/u-boot-arm-64/u-boot-0010-rk-usb-start.patch#L18

Hey, Has anyone managed to capture image from this camera? `media-ctl -p` shows this device, that mentions the camera name: - entity 63: m00_b_imx415 3-001a (1 pad, 1 link) type V4L2 subdev subtype Sensor flags 0 device node name /dev/v4l-subdev2 pad0: Source [fmt:SGBRG10_1X10/3864x2192@10000/300000 field:none crop.bounds:(12,16)/3840x2160] -> "rockchip-csi2-dphy0":0 [ENABLED] But that's it. I first made a self-built image for nanopi-r2s and everything is fine. But another self-built image of Nanopi-R2S seems refuse to boot after enabling these configurations: `DEBUG_INFO_DWARF_TOOLCHAIN_DEFAULT`, then `DEBUG_INFO_BTF` and `MODULE_ALLOW_BTF_MISMATCH` But the LED on RJ45 blinks, and I can ping the IP that I get from my router DHCP, but SSH connection refused. So I guess it may have booted, but refuse SSH connection. I have no TTL serial connections yet, I'll check it and post the logs here some time later. Can anybody help? How can I enable ssh with? Is it possible to enable it at build stage? Thanks.

I seem to have hit another problem with my Helios64. It seems that overnight, HDs 4 and 5 disappeared and no longer seem to be powered. I've disconnected all the other drives and tried it with just 4, and it seems to be a power problem as the drive activity light seems to light up for a short while, but not at full prightness. Also I note that SATA 4 and 5 are on a separate power line to the other 3. Anyone seen this before? Is it fixable?

Recently I've been trying to build Armbian for Firefly RK3399, since I've purchased this board last year, and it has been lacking proper software support for a long time. Here is my fork https://github.com/hjc4869/build/tree/development Basically, It is a copy & paste of what's already done to support Odroid N1, by replacing the Hardkernel's kernel to what Firefly provides (an older 4.4.77 kernel), and replacing the Hardkernel u-boot with rockchip u-boot. I created a new 'firefly' board family for convenience. Also tried to build the image with some other kernel variants (Rockchip 4.4 bsp and mainline 4.17-rc6) without success, still investigati…

Bigtreetech CB2 and Pi 2 released somewhat recently (April 20th). They use RK3566 and have a lot of nice features. The board and module are intended for 3d printer use but can be used just like any other pi. There is an official linux image on bigtreetech github, and it seems it's a slightly customized armbian. I propose copying that configuration and adding it as a supported board. This is a bit of a personal tangent, but I was also thinking of how I can submit the device tree files to the mainline linux kernel, would that be a good idea? I'm planning to use or at least try Alpine on the board and it would be nice to have the needed files in the linux package…

I have been trying to compile some packages that do work on the x86 platform and versions of Ubuntu and Debian but it seems like this define is missing so the program in question cannot compile a specific syscall in the file. Is SYS_getdents defined in the standard location unistd.h? I looked at the header but had some difficulties working through some of the defines. Thanks, Carter.

Hi everyone, Big fan of debian based distro's. Have six Rock64's and looking for a newer kernel (4.9+) with default Ubuntu modules list. 3 have eMMC cards and 3 using the Pine64 USB->SATA adapter with SSD drives. I have powered usb hub, y cables, etc but am using USB2 without powered hub because it's reliable as is and USB3 boot with any distro power injection seems unreliable. Not too concerned about throughput. Ayufan's release bionic-minimal-rock64-0.7.11-1075-arm64.img.xz with 4.4 is very stable on these. However Ayufan's mainline kernels after 4.4 are stripped right back. I spent a couple days compiling kernels with Ayufa…

Hey guys, I figured it was time to ask again... Does doing an `apt full-upgrade` from Buster to Bullseye break anything like before a year ago? I kind of want to do it, but not if the eMMC issues are still around. I really prefer not using the slower SD card method. And i also want to ask about stability for people that still use a Kobol with Armbian on Bullseye. Any pertinent issues with anything? A few people on here have claimed that they have gotten the vanilla Debian kernel to run on the Helios64, but I'm not sure how... Sure would be great if the vanilla Debian distro worked on this board, but I doubt that'll ever happen... I love…

I install armbian on the sd card, then insert it into firefly ROC-RK3328-CC. At the start, it flashes quickly 2 times, makes a small pause and flashes quickly 2 more times. Before that, it worked correctly, but I decided to reinstall the system and got this problem. I tried to install the system from firefly, as a result, only debian 9 worked, but it also worked with problems (at the first launch it reached the desktop, after rebooting and connecting the keyboard and mouse, it did not go beyond tty).

Hello Armbian Rockchip community, I'm working on getting Armbian based on the 6.1 BSP kernel running on a custom RK3328 board (specifically the MKS SKIPR for a 3D printer). This board is very similar to the libre renegade rk3328-roc-cc - just a few minor GPIO pin changes are required. I want to use the 6.1 BSP kernel because I expect it to have mpp video encoding capabilities. There is an existing repo that has this board working on the 6.7 mainline kernel with a couple of gpio patches. I've made some progress but am running into issues and could use some guidance. So far, I've been able to: Compile and run the basic 6.7 kernel for the MKS SKIPR - fr…

On Rock64, I use youtube-dl CLI app.to download the video (720p) during my off-peak bandwidth time, and watch with MPV or VLC later in fullscreen (1920x1080). It plays OK, but this drives the temperature up to 89-92 ! This is a monitor of the results: http://davekimble.net/problem.video.replay.txt . I think the dropped frames are because of 25 fps v 60 fps of the monitor. I know it is a lot of work, but any ideas for reducing the workload welcome. Anybody else get this?

I was trying to avoid opening a new instability topic, but this one seems different enough from the others to deserve it's own discussion. A few days ago I applied the 1G fix (pic attached) to the 2.5G port - which was not in use until then, since all my hardware is 1G max. I did this with the intention of using both ports: the 1G port goes to an isolated VLAN that serves VM images to my Proxmox hosts, and the 2.5G interface (running at 1G speed) serves files to the rest of my network. While the fix appears to work and the port is able to communicate at 1G speeds seemingly fine, after changing to this setup I'm experiencing frequent drops in the USB bus, which c…

Last week I updated the Armbian on my NanoPi M4V2 to the latest version (Armbian 21.08.1 Buster with Linux 5.10.60-rockchip64) and started noticing some issues with my Zigbee2MQTT local install. With the help of the Zigbee2MQTT main developer, we managed to confirm that the issue was reproducible on 5.10.60, but everything was working fine on previous kernels like 5.4. Other users not on Armbian (Raspbian) also confirmed that they were experiencing this problem with the latest kernel but was working fine on previous versions. We realized a bug was introduced for the CH341 driver in 5.10.60, that seems to have been fixed now on 5.10.62. …

I have a Rock64, purchased in 2019, that has been running happily for 4 years. I was recently experimenting with hooking it up to a relay board and now I am unable to connect to the internet. I am unsure whether something is fried on the board itself or if this is a software problem I can fix, and unsure how to figure that out. Details I have learned more about relay boards now, so I'll do a few things differently and more carefully next attempt, but I had the 5v pin powering the relay board and the 3v pin, GPIO3_A4, and GPIO3_A5 connected to the control side to control two of the board's relays. When connected the Rock's power leds were still on, but eit…

(Don't know if this is the right place for this, but the Github-Issue link lead me to here, so... here it goes) Like the title states, the checksum of the downloaded Armbian 26.8.0 minimal image for the NanoPi NEO3 and the expected checksum for said image differ. I've tried downloading the image from the Armbian NEO3 page (https://armbian.com/boards/nanopineo3) as well as through the Armbian installer, both resulting in an image with a non-matching checksum (imager log: https://paste.armbian.com/mabojoqoja). - the SHA256-checksum of the image accordin…

Hello. I'm trying to get the PWM2 and 3 to work on RockPi E. I made a custom dts to enable PWM2, loaded using armbian-add-overlay: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatible = "rockchip,rk3328"; fragment@0 { target = <0xffffffff>; __overlay__ { status = "okay"; }; }; __fixups__ { pwm2 = "/fragment@0:target:0"; }; }; But the kernel doesn't boot: Any idea? I already tried to enable uart1 using custom dtbo and it works without problem. I'm testing on Ubuntu Noble Minimal/IoT v24.8.3 for Rockpi E running Armbian Linux 6.6.51-current-rockchip64 …

Hello I would like to know if it is possible to have 2 partions on the emmc. Indeed My emmc have 256go for only the os armbian with OMV (2.5go only used). I would like to have for example a boot partition with size of 50go and an other partition for my data (200go). However when I use armbian-config the full emmc is formated. If a solution exist could you please share with me the solution. Thanks in advance for your support.

Orange Pi 5 Ultra HDMI RX no video when connecting Walksnail VTX Ascent. When I connect Walksnail Ascent VRX, the picture is fine, but when I connect VTX Ascent to VRX, the system doesn't see the HDMI RX. Specifically, it sees the source but can't lock it. The settings are set to 1080p60. I've tried different kernel and OS builds, but the result remains the same. What are the ways to solve this problem at the software level, since I specifically chose the Orange Pi 5 Ultra because of its built-in HDMI IN. The xenial img from dl.armbian.com works fine, but doesn't have SCTP support, so I wanted to compile my own image. Did a "show kernel config" and built an img. Dear H64-Friends, I've got the Armbian Debian installed with Linux Kernel 5.10 and Open Media Vault (OMV). I just use the basic functions for backing up files, nothing extraordinary. I am wondering what's the best strategy to update the Helios64 system concerning stability and getting no errors for backing up files (automatic USB-Backups). Keep it always up to date if there's an update available in OMV? Or just wait some weeks?

On the LTS version of this board, there is no other chance than to run the vendor-rk35xx kernel if you want to see something on a screen. I noticed strange behaviour when this SBC was attached to a 2k QHD screen with the latest vendor kernel. Display size was limited to FullHD instead QHD and Firefox were crashing. When I switched from desktop to terminal I saw the top left corner of the QHD terminal cut to the size of FullHD which was quite a problem because I could not see what I was writing. Today I tried kernel downgrade from 6.1.75 to 6.1.43-vendor-rk35xx and now I can see QHD on QHD and the Firefox stopped crashing. Hopefully, they will patch the ke…
