Hello, I'm using Nanopi M4 installed Armbian Buster. It works like charm but I found a strange behavior of the system. In htop all cores are displayed as little core. but when I checked actual clocks in /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/cpufreq/cpuinfo_cur_freq big cores are doing well (up to 1.8GHz). htop result: lscpu results: Architecture: aarch64 Byte Order: Little Endian CPU(s): 6 On-line CPU(s) list: 0-5 Thread(s) per core: 1 Core(s) per socket: 3 Socket(s): 2 Vendor ID: ARM Model: 4 Model name: Cortex-A53 Stepping: r0p4 CPU max MHz: 1800…

I just bought a FriendlyElec NanoPi Neo4 having had loads of experience with Armbian on Allwinner (OrangePi) boards. My preferred method for getting boards "up and running" is simply to connect a serial terminal to the debug port and power on. I tried this with several Armbian Buster images and found that I couldn't log in as root on any of them. Checking the SD card on my laptop, the debug port (ttyFIQ0) was missing from /etc/securetty. Editing /etc/securetty and adding ttyFIQ0 on a new line at the bottom of the file and all is well and I now have Buster up and running on the Neo4 :-) root@nanopineo4:/etc# diff securetty~ s…

Hi, I need to use callback function in Python3 on my NanoPi M4 but I can't, so it is very nice if anyone can help me with this issue. So far I've tried the function with wiringpi as shown command bellow but this doesn't work at all, that generates some errors and after that my command in /usr/bin/ doesn't work .... I can use other functions in wirignpi so guess something is wrong with only this function... Is there any way to use callback function with NanoPi M4, for example using other modules or something Thank you,

My board is rockpi4b After starting, unplug or restart the display, the display will display armbian desktop directly, indicating that armbian is started normally, but there is no normal signal to the display. After restarting, you must switch the monitor power or unplug the hdmi cable to display. This is not a problem if you use the official debian of rock and the armbian5.67 downloaded from rock's official website. And i want to use gpio lib in armbian such as libmraa ,how should i do?

There are several questions on the topic: Between the moment of transfer of control to the kernel from the u-boot and the moment of start of the kernel operation it takes 1.5 -2 minutes. I assume that during this period of time there is decompression of the code and placement in memory. But why so long? The 4.4.x kernel starts instantly. When I first turned on a nanopc-t4 with a 5.x.x (4.20) kernel, I already thought the kernel was corrupted. And quite accidentally waited for the green LED to blink. Why is there still no sound in fdt for nanopc-t4? I corrected fdt, but I can 't put it in kernel.org. It is possible that my patch goes against the established str…

I have the Rock64 4G Version with emmc module Since the latest Kernel Update two weeks ago on friday the board does not boot up anymore. (I was on Stretch initially and updated regularly since.) Even with a newly flashed sd card and without emmc module the board will not but into armbian. I managed to boot into raspbian buster 5.91 once, but after rebooting it, it failed again and stayed that way. until now I have tried the latest 3 images. The Kernel is now 4.4182 and is unchanged whatever I do. with any armbian on an sd card i am getting: Failed to start armbian zram config - failed to start journal service Failed to flush Journal to Persi…

I uses my NanoPi M4 as a cheap ARM64 kvm host, and I need a newer kernel since the legacy one is kind of broken in terms of KVM. But Wi-Fi is not working in dev kernel for quite some time, I found a temporary fix for that: # cd /lib/firmware/brcm # mv brcmfmac4356-sdio.bin brcmfmac4356-sdio-orig.bin # ln -s ../rkwifi/fw_bcm4356a2_ag.bin brcmfmac4356-sdio.bin # ln -s ../rkwifi/nvram_ap6356s.txt brcmfmac4356-sdio.friendlyelec,nanopi-m4.txt Then reboot, Wi-Fi will be back.

I used both buster and ubuntu images (Armbian_5.91_Nanopineo4_Debian_buster_default_4.4.179_desktop.img and Armbian_5.90_Nanopineo4_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.179_desktop.img), both have no wifi, only show "device not ready". So I extracted firmware from official friendly desktop image and unzip to /lib/firmware/rkwifi/ and wifi works. I'm a newbie and hope this could be fixed properly soon. For those new to linux like me, download the attachment, extract everything to /lib/firmware/rkwifi/, reboot and wifi should be there. ap6212.zip

steps to reproduce: 1. download official stable images and extract 2. write either image (both fail in same way) to sdcard: Armbian_5.91_Nanopct4_Debian_buster_default_4.4.179.img Armbian_5.90_Nanopct4_Ubuntu_bionic_default_4.4.179.img 3. boot sdcard -> works fine 4. run armbian-config -> firmware update 5. (also tried "apt update && apt full-upgrade", same result) 6. reboot -> boot loop happens every time, either the ubuntu or debian versions of armbian. no changes made after booting beyond just doing the update. reliably boot loops (it makes it to booting the kernel, then the board restarts after a while of no output) …

Hi there, I have a rockpi 4b running armbian bionic desktop legacy kernel 4.4y on a 128 GB emmc module, I’d like to use this machine as a server. I was just tinkering around with Plex, .bashrc and crontab while all of a sudden the keyboard mapping over RDP changed (e.g. > became ;, ~ became @ etc) (indication of the problem?). I tried to fix this by changing the system keyboard layout and running dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration, this all didnt work. I decided to reboot the machine to see if that would work. After the reboot I could not connect to either RDP or SSH so I decided to connect the machine to a HDMI monitor. This resulted in the following o…

I have a C++ app that wants to indicate its activity by blinking an LED on the Rock64. How can the LEDs be controlled? The sysfs leds do not appear to be present. I'm okay with libgpiod or sysfs gpios, but I don't know what gpio numbers represent the LEDs. Anyone know? Thanks. With the stable images for NanoPi M4 I see CPU speed is limited to 1.8Mhz, whereas with nightly builds I get up to 2GHz for the fast cores. I would rather like to stay with stable image, also because boot time is much longer with nightly builds. What is the easiest way to enable up to 2GHz CPU speeds with stable build? JB

Hey guys, I installed Armbian some months ago in my Rock64 and I had never updated the packages. Yesterday I decided to do an apt update + apt upgrade to update one of the applications I use. I noticed that meanwhile apt updated Armbian itself, and began to ask for a reboot. A few hours later I rebooted the board. At first I couldn't connect due to connection refusal, so I went plugged a keyboard and hdmi on the board to see what was happening. It looks like while doing this I unplugged the power source suddenly, and now the board won't boot the system in this OS. No image or response in the USB keyboard. …

I'm trying to install wiringpi by following the instruction given here https://github.com/Pavelectric/WiringPi_M4. Most of the steps that I followed worked fine but when I do the very last command below, I get a following error, I googled how to deal with this kind of error, and some people tell that 'ContextualZipFile' in archive_util.py doesn't have to be installed so I just need to comment that out. Although, I couldn't find '/usr/local/lib/python3.6/dist-packages/setuptools-33.1.1-py3.6.egg/setuptools/archive_util.py', I did that comment out solution to the all files below, which I got by doing find-command-research Now I d…

Hi Folks, I'm testing the M4 board with Armbian Buster, I'm having the following problems with the GPIO: How can I use gpio without root? I've checked and there isn't a /dev/gpiomem device so I can give permissions to other users. Only a few of the GPIO pins can be set. Most of them don't show up as configurable through gpio readall. A few of them show as ALT and although I can change their mode (input / output), I cannot change/read their value, it seems those are shared with i2c-3, so this can be the problem, but I don't know how to disable i2c-3 and use them. Also, can all the 6 cores work at the same time? Or the BIG.little architecture…

Hi. I'm using an OrangePi RK3399 and if the power supply from the 12V barrel jack is removed, the LTE module connected to the mPCIE port dies. Does anybody know how to make the mPCIE port work while on battery? The mPCIE dying is due to the port being powered from the main power supply line VBUS from the barrel jack (before the BQ25700a battery charger IC, according to the board's schematics). I don't know why power is not supplied from VSYS like everything else on the board. So, what I've found is that if I want to power the mPCIE port from the battery, the reverse OTG mode from the BQ25700a battery charger IC would need to be set (allowing voltage to flow from the bat…

Hello, I have a Rock64 V2 which I am using as a Tvheadend server, among other stuff. I have recently unhold the Linux packages and let apt to update them. Now at version 5.90, I see that the kernel module is still not included, and my USB device cannot be used. Going back to Linux image 5.75 makes the stick to work again, but I'd like to have the lates…

Hi, I'm currently facing strange problems... I'm using NanoPi and operate some USB devices with it. Since I wanted to know the total power consumption of the system, I measured current which flows into NanoPi from the outlet. The current during while the camera working was very nice (about 1A) so I shut the pi down. Then, I found that the total current value gradually rose up from about 1A to 1.5A. This seems to be so strange because when it gets shutdown, the power should be off as well, and the pi only needs small amount of power just to light the red LED. I tried a few times but the result was always same... …

I just installed Armbian 5.88 for Rock Pi 4B and bluetooth is not working. I'm using ARMBIAN 5.88 stable Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 4.4.180-rockchip64 Do you need further information? Hi, I'm wondering if the NanoPi M4 can be made to work with a PiTFT 320x240 screen? When I set up the /dev/fb0 device and write to it, the display simply stays black/white (each time I write to the display only the shades change). NanoPi M4 has a different GPIO set-up from Raspberry Pi 3b+ (which PiTFT works with). Is there a possibility that the NanoPi M4's GPIO could be rewired in a way that it would support the PiTFT? E.g. Tinkerboard runs under RK3288 (vs M4's RK3399) and has the same GPIO layout as the RPi 3B+, so it could maybe be made possible?

I have a ROCK64 4GB Rev. 2. When I flash armbian to a SD card the board will boot fine and I can do basically anything for example apt-get update / upgrade. The board runs fine and stable for several hours. But as soon as I reboot the board, the board will stop booting. There is no HDMI output and no ping response. Even after disconnecting power for several hours. Right now there is no way for me to get it to boot again except for flashing the fresh image to the SD-card. I‘ve tried several SD-cards. Hey guys, I heard that the USB3 port of the Rock64 outputs up to 950mA. I have this external HD (WD My Passport), one of those 2,5'' external HDDs that are powered solely by the USB3 port. From what I've gathered, this should need no more than 650mA. But it doesn't work on the Rock64. After mounting the thing, if I try to write and read, it just disconnects with a bunch of dmesg errors. It makes a little click sound after the spinning builds up. Looks like there's not enough energy (it works fine on my desktop). How can I check and monitor the voltage and current delivered by the USB3.0 on the Rock64? My power supply is …

I was wondering if there is a solution to boot from a USB thumb drive and flash the OS to an eMMC. Currently I´m running ARMbian on a Rock64 with an eMMC module installed. Since I´m still trying to figure out how to set up the device I keep reinstalling the OS. So it would be nice to have a way without opening the case, take out the eMMC, hook it up to the PC to flash and reinserting. Thanks in advance.

I have seen many problems with the Rock64 v3 in the last few days. Many customers have told me that existing Rock64 images suddenly no longer boot in v3. We have verified this and found that apparently v3 can not cope with many SD cards. The booting of eMMC goes without problems. If a customer has bought a new v3 and nothing works, contact us, we will send you an emmc card for the purchase price without any profit. markus@humberg.de

One of my boards gave up today - I was just connecting the SATA power cable to the hat and no leds came on - no sound or smoke just nothing - I tried several times to re power it and all I saw on a couple of occasions was a very faint flicker of the leds -so I guess it's dead.

I received one of these https://www.servercase.co.uk/shop/server-cases/rackmount-case-accessories/accessories-spare-parts/supermicro-cse-m14tqc-cse-m14tqc/ today to go with the Nanopi M4 SATa hat, it has a male Molex for input power, the SATA hat has a male Molex power outlet so I need a female to female Molex connector which I can't find anywhere - any ideas guys ?

Hi! I've successfully installed Armbian Bionic(kernel 4.20, automated build) image on NanoPC-T4, but gpu drivers not provided. Here output of http://ix.io/1FBI And /dev/mali0 didn't exist. The question is: how to build and install open-source drivers(I didn't find any complete instructions), I actually not so experienced on it.

Hi all, thanks to you guys on here I now have a fully functioning 4 * SSD drive NanoPiM4 using the SATA hat. What I'd like to do now, is, place the drives in some sort of drive enclosure that would have 4 SATA data inputs and be powered by the molex on the hat. Is it possible and is there such an animal ?

I've read many tutorials and tried many tips on how to change console resolution in Armbian Ubuntu 18.04 on ROCK64 but couldn't find any solution. I'm stuck with 4K resolution and can't reconfigure it down to 1920x1080. armbian-config tool lacks such basic functionality. Is there any way to do resolution change or do I have to get 1080p monitor? It's fucked up doing such simple thing is so complicated. Wasted over 2 hours now researching and no solution yet.

I just purchased a 4GB Rock64. I've tried both the Ubuntu (Armbian Bionic Desktop 4.4.y) and Debian (Armbian Stretch Desktop 4.4.y) distros. I'm finding that the Debian distro is very sluggish compared to the Ubuntu distro. The desktop is sluggish in responding to mouse clicks and in Chromium, a basic web page takes about 3 seconds to display compared to about 1 second with Ubuntu. Is this the same performance difference that other people are finding with these distros on the Rock64? Is there some configuration tweak I need to make to improve Debian performance? Is there another distro that I should check out that would give me better performance?

Greetings, I can't seem to find any documentation on how to access the only PWM port on the Nano M4 which happens to reside on the 2nd set of pins. It's listed as GPIO2 and the PWM pin is pin 23 which they label as GPIO_C6/PWM1(3V). SInce any documentation I find on GPIO has to do with the 40 pin port, how can I program the PWM using wiringPI-Python? I wonder why Nano chose to disregard the other PWM pins that other Raspberry Pi type boards retained like the Asus Tinkerboard. Or am I missing something? If so, can someone enlighten me as to how to access PWM on the Nano M4. Preferably using Python 3.

I am so frustrated with my rock64 (SoC RK3328), there is no support. Pine 64 takes the money and dumps all the issues on a community. The product is a lemon. Can’t watch YouTube, there is no audio I am very disappointed in Pine64, I will try and return this device.

Greetings, I have installed your wiringpi-python on our Nano Pi M4 as instructed on http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/index.php/WiringPi-Python_for_RK3399. All went well with the installation. However, when trying to execute wpi.wiringPiSetup(), I get the following error: Oops: Unable to determine board revision from /proc/cpuinfo -> No "Hardware" line -> You'd best google the error to find out why. This is strange because there is no "Hardware" line in proc/cpuinfo on any Linux system in our organization. Can you please explain what is the way forward. Or is there a python 3 alternative to wiringpi…

Hello, can someone help me with my problem. I have a ROCK64 with 4GB of RAM and an ARMBIAN 5.75 stable Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS 4.4.174-rockchip64, installed. My issue come with usb ports, from the three USB of the this device only works two: one 2.0 and 3.0. And when i have a disk connected towards usb 3.0 i have issues with port usb 2.0, it doesn't work well and I end up disconnecting the USB 3.0 to can work with my device connected towards USB 2.0 so I assume that the current power on the USB port is having issues or it's not working well. Anybody an idea? thanks!

Hi, my rock64 (rev2) with the latest build of Armbian randomly looses its network connection. I couldn't use the armbianmonitor -u as it had no network connection, but when i use ifconfig, I can see it's still got it's settings and is the NIC lights are on. ifconfig showed 6 TX errors. My NIC is set to DHCP with static reserved IP address to an ASUS router. I leave it on 24/7 and check it once a while as it pretty much is used as a NAS with a single USB 3 drive. This morning I connected up via HDMI and a USB keyboard and logged in successfully. I don't have much Linux experience so wasn't sure how to capture the logs to SD card so i could co…

I've found a problem with Armbian on the NanoPi Neo 4 with USB 3.0. I have a RAID6 via four USB 3.0 external hard disks (I know, not optimum but it's been working fine for years off an older ARM box using USB 2.0). While the RAID works fine on the USB 2.0 port (established this was true afterward), when connected to the USB 3.0 port, the USB 3.0 hub I'm using disconnects after only a few seconds, disconnecting all the drives (of course). I initially used an unpowered USB 3.0 hub (I forget the manufacturer; I can check). I figured at first, this might be a power issue (even though the external drives are all self-powered). I found a 10-port power…

Hi, I have deployed a NanoPi Neo 4 and for the most part, I'm happy with it, but am having a peculiar problem. I am using the manufacturer-supplied serial console cable and USB adapter (via screen /dev/ttyUSBx 115200). Once the machine is properly booted, if I hit enter, I get a serial console as normal. However, I get garbage from u-boot (and presumably from the kernel boot messages). It looks just as if I have a speed mismatch. I have tried many other speeds (1500000, 230400, 57600, 38400, 19200, 9600) and none of these seem to work. What am I doing wrong? Or is the state of the box right now that u-boot sends garbage …

Hi Folks, I have a NanoPiM4 and loaded Ambian 5.75 onto an SD card, it boots great (Thanks Armbian!). How I've added the FriendlyElec 2.8 TFT module (240x320) and want to configure it. When plugging in a RTL8153 gigabit ethernet adaptor, it shows up when using lsusb, however there is no driver found for it. I also went to the Realtek website and tried to compile the proper drivers for it, however, the Make process always fails. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get this to work? The adaptor says it is supported on the Armbian website. Thanks!

Hi, I'm currently working to enable SPI on NanoPi M4 but it is not working... I have edited main DT to the following one and now /dev/spidev0.0 appears. But when I checked spi with this tool:https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/tools/spi/spidev_test.c I only got the result below and no matrix appears... spi mode: 0x0 bits per word: 8 max speed: 500000 Hz (500 KHz) Here is what dmesg | grep spi returns I have checked the output from the proper GPIO with oscilloscope but found nothing. almost spent couple weeks on this Anyone had the same issue or knows what to do here?

This report applies to NanoPi-4 RK3399 boards (NanoPC T4, NanoPi M4, NanoPi NEO4) running Armbian Bionic (Friendlyarm-based legacy 4.4.y kernel). In other words, boards targeted by Armbian rk3399.conf and Friendlyarm kernel but *NOT* baords using rockchip64.conf and Ayufan kernel. There is a bug in the friendlyarm linux 4.4 version of /scripts/package/builddeb that causes the linux-headers package to be incomplete. Attempts to build out-of-tree kernel modules to fail with errors of the form "fatal error: ../../arm/include/asm/opcodes.h: No such file or directory". I'm trying to run the example.cpp that comes with Pine64-CPP but I am throwing segmentation faults. The man-setup() call initialzes the board with the following if statement in the setup() function in gpio.cpp if((uint64_t)gpio_mem % PAGE_SIZE) and the this->gpioMap = statement that uses SUNXI_GPIO_BASE In the example code, I initialize the pin with man->pinMode (PI_GPIO_24, OUTPUT); The pinMode function in gpio.cpp, launches _setPullupdn with gpio=78 and pud = 1. Hey all! Finally got my Rock64 booted up and running. I set up a Samba server and a Plex share so I can access an attached USB3 RAID array as a media server. Initially I was getting speeds of ~3 MB/s write and attributed it to transferring over wifi with an ancient Airport Express Draft-N router. Upgraded to a Netgear R7000P and the issue still persists so I figured it would be worth it to post here. I would've attributed it to the USB3 to eSata converter going to the RAID array but doing some disk speed tests on the Rock64 shows it getting about 130 MB/s read/write speed over the connection so I doubt it's that. Samba setup is stock and my share described bel…

As I reported here (https://github.com/armbian/build/issues/1230), I'm seeing frequent reboots and Kernel Panics on a RK3399 board while running ElasticSearch, a kinda heavy application that runs on Java. I currently run a Kubernetes cluster on two RK3399 boards (NanoPC-T4). One of them I has a version of DietPi with a Kernel 4.4.138 compiled by myself. and runs perfectly. The other had a newer version of a Kernel (4.4.154) also compiled by me and that's where I started seeing the reboots. After this, I installed Armbian thinking it might be something with my DietPi distro. I installed 5.69 with Kernel 4.4.167 and saw the same problems. I did a ful…
