I was wondering if there is a solution to boot from a USB thumb drive and flash the OS to an eMMC. Currently I´m running ARMbian on a Rock64 with an eMMC module installed. Since I´m still trying to figure out how to set up the device I keep reinstalling the OS. So it would be nice to have a way without opening the case, take out the eMMC, hook it up to the PC to flash and reinserting. Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to run the example.cpp that comes with Pine64-CPP but I am throwing segmentation faults. The man-setup() call initialzes the board with the following if statement in the setup() function in gpio.cpp if((uint64_t)gpio_mem % PAGE_SIZE) and the this->gpioMap = statement that uses SUNXI_GPIO_BASE In the example code, I initialize the pin with man->pinMode (PI_GPIO_24, OUTPUT); The pinMode function in gpio.cpp, launches _setPullupdn with gpio=78 and pud = 1. As expected Inside _setPullupdn, the following is set bank= 2 index = 0 offset = 28 The s…

I have a development board, model eaidk-310, with soc rk3228h (which is said to be the same as rk3328). The official website of the board has been closed, so I cannot obtain more related information. About a year ago, I installed the OpenMediaVault image for CM3588-NAS from here: https://www.armbian.com/nanopc-cm3588-nas/ The image is debian-bookworm, which has since become oldstable, while trixie is the new stable. Is it possible to upgrade the distribution and move to trixie packages, even though there are no trixie images for CM3588-NAS? In theory this seems completely feasible as my apt configurations seem completely standard with something like deb http://deb.debian.org/debian bookworm main contrib non-free non-free-firmware and deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/armbian.gpg] http://apt.armbian.com bookworm main bookworm-utils bookworm-deskt…

Hi, I was trying to load below Armbian images into NanoPi M4 (just M4, neither M4B nor M4V2). They are able to be loaded in the first place, but when I reboot the board by typing "reboot" command in the terminal, I can only see black screen showing on the monitor, no led flashing on the board even, and the board never boots up again. If I unplug the power cable and plug back again, it boots as expected. Is there any way I can reboot the board remotely? Hi, Just received my Nanopi R5C. Flashed the Debian 12 (Bookworm) Minimal/IOT images with Armbian Linux v6.12 from here https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-r5c/. Everything works well except that I could not get the WAN port working. Anyone has any idea? BTW, the Nanopi R5C looks different from the image showed on https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-r5c/. Mine has only 2 x 2.5Gb ports instead of the 3 port. The image on the page looks like a NanoPi R5S... Just a side note. Cheers.

@Igor Kernel enabled Bootsplash works great on the recent 20.08 on Orange Pi 4. However there is a delay of around 20 - 30 seconds before this Bootsplash comes up. Is is possible to enable bootsplash on u-boot also on this image? I built a custom image 20.08-trunk with option "Kernel enabled bootsplash' disabled however could not see u-boot bootspalsh on this image. -Rajesh

I see from photos of the FriendlyElec metal case (without display) for the NanoPi M6 that there appear to be two holes for wifi antennas. Does anyone know if the optional wifi card sold by FriendlyElec comes with antennas? If not, are they a standard size which I can buy somewhere else?

Hello, so we use Kobol 64 with OMV since 4 months, and no problem at all. Just yesterday, want to change Ethernet cable, correctly shutdown the Helios64 NAS, and impossible to start it again. Just have the right system light, but left LED no blinking, no information in the USBC terminal. For the "recovery", press the recovery button, and then press the power button, and the LED System don't light up. What can we do, format the system, and reinstall OMV with all parameters... Not really serious, ins't it ? Thank you for any help. Regard.

Hi, I’m using the Helios64 with Armbian 20.11 Buster ( 5.9.10-rockchip64) On every reboot the SMART counter for “Unexpected_Power_Loss (174)” / “POR_Recovery_Count (235)” incresses by one. I’ve seen this unexpected behaviour on Samsung, WD and Crusical SSDs … Rebooting the box with sync && echo 1 > /sys/block/sdX/device/delete && reboot turns the disk friendly off, but shouldn’t this be done in systemd/kernel?

I’ve googled it but can’t decide, the drive works just fine (it’s the 1st of the three disks I have in the box), no performance issues when copying from/to the box. Hi! Unless mistaken, I believe audio is missing from 3.5mm jack on the RockPi4b. To enable it, I had: - To update the dts by adding definitions close to the RockPro64 (some available starting in mainline 5.6) - Change them to use I2S0 instead of I2S1 - Enable audio-graph-card in kernel config (I also removed some audio modules which issued warnings/errors during boot) - Patch es8316.c to prevent a kernel panic during boot (found in Ayufan's latest mainline kernel for RockPro64) yannick@rockpi-4b:~$ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: rockchiprk3399 [rockchip,rk3399], device 0: ff880000.i2s-ES8316 HiFi ES8…

Hi, I received my new rock64 today and I downloaded this image https://dl.armbian.com/rock64/Debian_stretch_default_desktop.7z I used Etcher as recommended to create the SD card and booted off of it with just power and network connected as I assumed it would boot, assign a dhcp address and bring up sshd so I could remote onto it. I scanned my network to see if any new devices had been added with dhcp, but couldn't see anything new so I connected the rock64 up to a TV and then booted it up, connected up a keyboard and noticed it ran through an install process on first local login. I followed all the directions and a desktop appeared on s…

Hello everyone, I have an issue in here. I'm very new to these things so have little knowledge and thus, forgive me if i ask something stupid but i have a problem. I have installed armbian debian verson to my NanoPC T4 and installed i3wm and did a lot of configuration and filled it with junk but i almost achieved what i'm trying to. Yet as i mentioned, i also filled with a lot of junk while trying to achieve my setup for my project. Anyway, from what i know is that what i'm asking is not the linux way but while trying, i found a problem on my case. I wanted to make a clean installation and fill the things i found out worked with the se…

Hey, I have uninstalled cron from my system completely, but I just thought I might help contribute, even just a little, by making some services and timer files to replace the ones in these folders: /etc/cron.d /etc/cron.daily /etc/cron.hourly /etc/cron.weekly Now keep in mind that I have not fully tested any of these yet! I would appreciate feedback in testing these, since most of these I won't even use on my system. I barely even use the armbian-config utility at all, so... yeah... The files in question are these. Let me know if I should add more: armbian-truncate-logs armbian-updates armbian-ram-logging The…

I have a serious problem as I mentioned in a title Currently I'm using Armbian on my NanoPi M4 and very satisfied its functionality But when I try to use usb3 device (especially camera from ZWO campany, ZWO ASI 178) with it, it doesn't recognize it as USB3 device but USB2 by checking the data transfer speed with "lsusb -t" Then, once I unplug the cable and plug it to the pi again, that device is recognized as USB3 and the data transfer speed becomes much higher. I need to get USB3's fast data transfer as soon as the board gets booted, without unplugging cables since now it's not that easy to access to the board and cable. I tried usb r…

Hello, I have installed the currently provided image "Armbian_24.11.1_Nanopct6_bookworm_current_6.12.0_minimal.img.xz" on my NanoPC-T6 (not LTS). Unfortuantely the only one USB3 port is not working. So no local access is possible and no external USB storage device can be used. I wonder if no one else has such problem reported yet since 3 weeks now (released 2024-11-21). The USB3 port is working with the FriendlyELEC image (rk3588-sd-debian-bookworm-core-6.1-arm64-20241112.img.gz), so maybe there is a small problem with a kernel module or the device tree. If someone can guide me to a starting point for investigation, I can do some debugging. I have little…

Hi, I'm very pleased with my Helios 64, but since I updated to Armbian 20.11.6 (from 20.08.11 or 21, not really sure) it reboots at random times: it can run fine for over two weeks and reboot twice in 36 hours, always when idling. It's running OMV as well a multiple Docker containers: PiHole, Wireguard, Nginx, Transmission, restic-server and n8n. Is it a common issue? What fixes do you recommend? What should I look for to diagnose the issue? Thank you. Edit: forgot to mention that I'm using SnapRAID and mergerFS, as well as NFS shares.

I've found a problem with Armbian on the NanoPi Neo 4 with USB 3.0. I have a RAID6 via four USB 3.0 external hard disks (I know, not optimum but it's been working fine for years off an older ARM box using USB 2.0). While the RAID works fine on the USB 2.0 port (established this was true afterward), when connected to the USB 3.0 port, the USB 3.0 hub I'm using disconnects after only a few seconds, disconnecting all the drives (of course). I initially used an unpowered USB 3.0 hub (I forget the manufacturer; I can check). I figured at first, this might be a power issue (even though the external drives are all self-powered). I found a 10-port power…

I know that the SD cards, images, and burners are not the problem cuz I tested it on a Raspberry Pi with no problems.

Hello, Recently the HDD Cable Harness for my Helios64 malfunctioned. SATA Ports 1 and 2 are both no longer getting power/HDDs are not spinning up. Hi everybody, I am currently facing some struggles with the nanoPC-T4 recently bought to run armbian. When I got the board, I was able to run android default installed OS, but also armbian from a SD card. But along the way, I decided to install armbian on an NVMe SSD memory to prevent running the OS from the SD card, anyway ... Hi - trust this is the right forum. I have forgotten the login password to my Arbian installation on the nanopi m4 V2. It boots from the eMMC just fine, but I am stuck at the prompt. I had only just installed it a few weeks ago (then things got hectic), so nothing really invested - I could just install again via the SD card, right? Unfortunately, it looks like the SD slot is no longer working. In the last 2-3 days nothing seems to boot from it. Which leaves me with an eMMC module loaded up with an Armbian - I think its bionic, because it does have wifi (buster never worked with wifi). In other 'vanilla' flavours of of l…

I am downloading three different builds from 6.12 for orange pi 5. I have an orange pi 5 pro but since there is not dtb entry in 6.12 for that sbc in the Armbian 25.8.1 6.12.28 dtb file I used the orange pi 5b.dtb entry which works with the Armbian 25.8.1 6.1.115 images. The result is that the initramfs cant find a root disk - and when checking for drives in initramfs - there are none ls /dev/disks/by-uuid. So the initramfs file isn't running correctly as its not finding drives. I went back and loaded Armbian_24.8.1_Rock-5c-trixid_current_6.12.42_minimal.image and that boots up to root login. However if I change the card type to orangepi-5b. I cann…

I tried a dpkg --add-architecture armhf, then update, but when I try to run install.sh from the Epson driver, it throws error: E: Failed to locate package libboost-filesystem1.58.0 Somebody could help me? Thank you

The mainline 5.11 patch "phy: rockchip: set pulldown for strobe line in dts" https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/8b5c2b45b8f0a11c9072da0f7baf9ee986d3151e (not backported to 5.10.y) seems to have broken most if not all rockchip board EMMC HS400 enhanced strobe support. This probably affects supported rockchip boards (at least rk3399 ones, but probably most). That is boards exhibit: [ 18.985162] mmc1: running CQE recovery [ 18.988056] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [ 18.988500] mmc1: cqhci: spurious TCN for tag 12 and the filesystem ends up corrupted on write attempt. hello, i was trying to set up a 2 pin fan on my orangepi 5b and i connected it to pin 25 and 26 (GND and PWM1). When i first started this task, the output from gpio readall would show me all 26 pins on the board. As i was digging through some forums to try and get the PWM pin to operate as on/off, i came across wiringOP and when i installed it, the output of `gpio readall` changed to only show 8pins. I am unsure of what went wrong and why it only shows 8 pins. I tried removing wiringOP and it still has not made a difference. Thanks

Hi I have spent couple of days to enable the SPI3 (the only SPI that has been routed to the 40-pin header) on Rock3A, but no success. I am trying to enable SPI3M1C0 with following pins on my Rock 3A GPIO4_C2 (CLK), GPIO4_C3 (MOSI), GPIO4_C5 (MISO), and GPIO4_C6 (CS0). I am out of idea, try different overlays but still not able to enable them. I used this overlay from this repo https://github.com/radxa/overlays/blob/main/arch/arm64/boot/dts/rockchip/overlays/rk3568-spi3-m1-cs0-spidev.dts I expect to see “/dev/spidev3.0” but nothing appeared. I've been trying to connect a USB hdd for a while now, and depending on the SATA disk and the USB<->Sata adapter I've had different behaviours : * 700mA hdd * Adapter A works, can mount and copy * Adapter B is detected, the SATA device too in dmesg, but does not appear in lsblk. * 1A hdd (Seagate Barracuda 2To 2.5'') * Adapter A seems to be detected, the disk tries to start (sde is showing in dmesg) but usb device disappears, reappears etc ("usb disk bootloop") * Adapter B is not even detected in dmesg or lsusb ! Obviously, the 4 configurations perfectly work on a x86 host. What could be going on ? I'm pr…

I have a strange problem with my R2S. I grabbed latest buster and focal images, burned them using Balena Etcher onto a pair of 32GB SanDisk Extreme Cards and neither is booting. Serial console shows that boot process gives up waiting for root file system and drops me into initramfs shell. Looking into /dev, I see no mmcblk0 device (or any other block device apart from loops). If I now eject and re-insert the card, the device shows up. If I do it during boot process, while the board is still waiting for rootfs, boot process continues correctly. Reboots are fine, but if I unplug the board for longer than a second it's back to initramfs for me. …

Hi all. Some time ago, in the release notes of a past Armbian version, I remember reading that the network LED should now be enabled by default and associated with eth0. Despite always keeping my Helios64 as up-to-date as possible, mine never lit up, but I didn't think much of it. Today I decided to investigate why, and I'm not sure where to go from here. First things first, the LED works, it's not a hardware issue. I can echo 1 and 0 to the LED path (/sys/class/leds/helios64:blue:net/brightness) and it lights on and off as expected. From what I can tell, this LED, along with the heartbeat one, is enabled by the Systemd unit helios64-hear…

I notice the Helio64 hardware supports WOL, but I can't see anything in the Wiki about it (only Helios4) The Helio64 can draw some power with 5 spinning disks, I would love to have it sleep until needed. Is there any information on setting this up? I can see Autoshutdown plugin for OMV, but there is options for: Shutdown Hibernate Suspend Hybrid Sleep Suspend then Hibernate Does Helios64 support all these methods? Then once the unit is in some form of shutdown or sleep state, how can I make use to WOL to wake it up? Thanks.

My Helios64 NAS is suddenly randomly just, stopping. It appears to be totally random. It doesn't appear to be some form of actual shutdown as the front panel lights all stay on. I lose all access including the serial console. The only way to reboot is a long press on the power button to actually physically reboot the box. I've cranked the verbosity up to 7 in /boot/armbianEnv.txt in case something is output on the serial console but I've not seen any useful output yet but for obvious reasons it's hard to catch it happening. Because /var/log is cleared every boot I can't see if anything was logged just prior to the halt event. Not sure where to…

I've got a Rock64 1GB (rk3328) running Focal with the legacy 4.4 kernel. Hello! So now I am playing with Rock64 4GB. I installed the Armbian_5.65 server edition OS and then installed xorg, lxde, and lxdm., then rebooted into a working system. Final stage of setting up was to test rhythmbox_3.4.2 and there was no sound. pavucontrol > playback shows the app is running and the worm is leaping about, but absolutely no sound. Same playing a .wav file with mpv, or indeed any player. Is there something unusual about the audio socket, or some other limitation. armbianmonitor -u = http://ix.io/ltt0

Had anyone tested DAS mode performance with Capture One? Or could someone explain to me how it works? Editing images, moving raw files, even saving catalog backups is dramatically slower on a NAS than a DAS or internal drive. It doesn't matter how fast the drive or network is. Its a long standing bug they're always quick to say they aren't prioritizing fixing. I've looked at other NAS's that do a DAS mode by running a 10GBE connection over thunderbolt and that's a great solution in ev…

Hello, friends... The current MIPI DSI driver provided by Rockchip Inc. in older U-Boot versions (v2023 and earlier) is not compatible with U-Boot’s uclass subsystems.(a waste of time if you want to develop). My Helios64 was running fine with 5 HDDs for a couple of weeks, then I suddenly couldn't access the shares anymore and I noticed only two HDDs were running (the rest having no indicator lights). HDD slot 3, 4 and 5 appears "dead", no power up on boot, no indicator lights. I have checked both +12V and +5V rails and they are present, everything is plugged in. I can move the HDDs from slot 3, 4 and 5 to slot 1 and 2 and they will power up just fine. The hard drives also work in other machines. I'm a bit lost as to what might be wrong, any ideas?

Hi, I have deployed a NanoPi Neo 4 and for the most part, I'm happy with it, but am having a peculiar problem. Gentlemen, I have a rock64 board, and I would like to use an external RTC module with DS1307 chip. Unfortunately the armbian kernel does not provide DS1307 driver by default: root@rock64:~# cat /boot/config-4.4.162-rockchip64 | grep DS1307 # CONFIG_RTC_DRV_DS1307 is not set I don't have the programming skills for sending a pull request to enable this module. Could you please enable this module for ROCK64? I believe other ROCK64 owners may also benefit from this driver, as the board does not expose a working RTC, and DS1307 is a very common RTC chip. Thanks in advance.

Has anyone activated the ov13855 camera on Orange Pi 5 (kernel 6.1.x)? If so, can you share your experience?

Hello, I have been using Armbian OS on Rock Pi 4B. Full system is on NVME, not using SD card, and there is no eMMC chip on the board. During usage, I needed to shut it down improperly: by removing power cable, not through sudo shutdown now In the end I have following message during boot: Also, here is contents of dev folder: I was wondering if it is possible to fix this error. If not, I will reinstall with new image. Just spent much time on setting the environment, don't want to redo this all I would appreciate any help.

I'm in the process of upgrading my network and with the Helios64 capable of 2.5 GbE, what are some people's switch recommendations? My needs aren't really too high so I think 5 ports should be enough until the rest of the infrastructure catches up in my home network. My short-list are: * QNAP QSW-1105-5T * TP Link TL-SG105-M2 * TRENDnet TEG-S350 Article from servethehome

To continue discussion from Helios64 Support Currently there is no plan to support to disable the power but it's interesting to know such use case. If we implemented this feature, you would need to go u-boot prompt to enable and disable the power. would this acceptable for you? Under Linux device tree, the power rail declared as regulator node with regulator-always-on property. This prevent kernel (and user) to turn off the regulator. Unless we are able to create device node for the SATA port, to act as consumer of the regulator, we can't remove the regulator-always-on property.
