Armbian now has a community supported build target for amlogic TV Boxes (aml-s9xx-box). You can now build your own builds directly with the Armbian build system. This is now an opportunity for members of the community to move the support for amlogic TV boxes forward within the Armbian framework. If you are not familiar with the Armbian build system check out the Armbian developer documentation. If you have idea on how you would like to see things evolve/change please use this forum to share your thoughts and ideas and submit PRs for any code changes you would like to see. I am currently testing this code against the four different amlogic based …

Hello, I need to ask this stupid question... I have an aging m8 tv box.(k200)..so i would like to ask if it's viable to run Armbian on it... Currently i have a beelink x2 running just beautifully armbian ....GREAT job to all the devs .....but i am thinking of using it more as a TV box and less as a linux server....so it would be great if i could replace M8 with beelink and use m8 for linux ... TIA

Hi with the curiosity of being able to install Armbian I got a friend to give me an MXQ PRO 4K similar to mine in aesthetics but with different hardware this one has a s905 processor below I release the info screens. I renamed u-boot-s905 to u-boot.ext with .dtb p200 because I understand from the info that this model mounts the hardware, then I boot with the toothpick method and it stops on the screen in the picture below, I tried both from SD and from usb pendrive same result! extilux.conf LABEL Armbian LINUX /uImage INITRD /uInitrd FDT /dtb-6.1.0-meson64/amlogic/meson-gxbb-p200.dtb #FDT /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxbb-p201.dtb #FDT /dtb/amlo…

@SteeMan - in case you want to experiment (i.e. not sure if it really works), you might play around with chainloading the g12a-u-boot.bin (s905x2) and sm1-u-boot.bin (s905x3) from https://github.com/hexdump0815/u-boot-misc/releases/tag/200926-01 or gxb-u-boot.bin (s905) or gxl-u-boot.bin (s905x) from https://github.com/hexdump0815/u-boot-misc/releases/tag/200718-01 ... basic chainloading goes like this - https://github.com/hexdump0815/imagebuilder/blob/master/boot/boot-amlogic_gx-aarch64/s905_autoscript.txt - maybe compare it to the balbes150 boot scripts for fancier ways and most probably better armbian integration ... the files mostly exist in a serial version for seria…

Hi, so after many hours of trial and error I have managed to get the latest Armbian with Kernel 6.1.27 running on my old mxq s805 tv box. Albeit only thing that is not working is hdmi output and wifi. So for anyone else trying to accomplish something similar, my steps were: https://github.com/hzyitc/armbian-onecloud Downloaded the latest release of this build for the onecloud device as it also runs on the s805 amlogic chipset (props to the developer for still updating) Burn the image to your sd card. Then after the image is burned, create a textfile on the root of the sd card and name it „uEnv.txt“ …

Hello to everybody I am trying to setup a brand new X96 max+ 4/64 Tv Box as a small linux machine but its simply doesn't work... I am using Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_bionic_current_5.9.0.img ...I think i have tried all the necessary .dtbs according to this guide : http://mrbluecoat.blogspot.com/2020/10/install-linux-on-x96-max-x96-max.html (i skipped the hk1box-bootloader.img cause I don't have a linux box handy) but nothing just about every time...not a single case where I saw something from Armbian. I have a Franklin9 (judging from the Android Recovery Screen) complaining that block is too short....so what is the deal...is it one way street to downgrade X…

I follow the method here: My box can now see the wifi, but there are a few quirks: 1. It sees only some of the 5Ghz band. For example, it can't see my own 5Ghz AP, but can see my neighborhood 5G APs 2. when connected with either 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band, and I did the speed test. It is fine with the download speed, but the upload speed is just less than 1Mbps, always. Thus, the connection is virtually useless, e.g. I can vnc to it, but it shows black screen because the screen can't be uploaded to my vnc client due to the upload speed problem. Is there any work around? My armbian: Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0_desktop.img dtb file: /d…

Hello guys! I have a T95Z Plus TV BOX with 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, and an arm S912 CPU. I can run Armbian just fine from the SD card, but when I try to install it on the eMMC, I get an error message saying something like, "You're already running from eMMC, or the eMMC was not found." And, obviously, I'm not running from eMMC, so it seems like the system just isn't detecting it. I did some research, and it seems like there might be different eMMC manufacturers for the same T95Z Plus model. So, I might need to adjust the "Max frequency" parameter in the .DTB file for the T95Z Plus in order for Armbian to recognize the eMMC on my device. D…

Hello, I am currently using a TV BOX X96 Mini running Android TV 9 and using AMLOGIC S905W CPU. Then I was intending to run on ARMBIAN, so I followed the instructions on this WEB: [https://i12bretro.github.io/tutorials/0316.html] After doing the full setup steps, I used 2 ways : Method 1: Press the reset button on the TVBOX to boot (But not in armbian but in android ] Method 2: I used the application available on the TVbox which is [UPDATE] to run [aml.autoscript.zip], and after I press the update button it enters the Download Mode of the TV box and gives an error, and that's me Can't get into ARMBIAN

Hi, I'm trying to repurpose my Vero 4k (not 4k+) by installing Armbian on it. The device is based on the S905X and it looks like the most recent versions include a dtb for 4k, thanks to the work done by chewitt. I used the AMLogic s9xx TV Box edition and followed these instructions in the forums to copy the dtb and u-boot. However, I'm having some trouble getting the device to boot into an SD card flashed with the Armbian image. I was wondering whether anyone else has some experience with this. Here's what I tried so far: Downloaded and extracted the image (I used the Minimal/IoT version) Wrote the image to an SD Card (tried two …

Hi, my previous Armbian (21.08.1 focal 5.10.60 desktop) was successfully installed to emmc. (install_aml_gxl_emmc.sh) After I tried the latest firmware (Armbian_23.02.0-trunk_Aml-s9xx-box_kinetic_edge_6.0.12_xfce_desktop), I felt a big change in speed. The problem is, I've tried several times to move it to emmc and it always fails to boot. (install-aml.sh) Any suggestions I need to look into before running the script again? Thank you

Hello, i think i bricked my H96 Pro Plus, like a year ago i installed Armbian on it. Today i flashed a SD with a new version, reinstalled octoprint etc and finally tried to burn it to the emmc using "./install-aml.sh" it seemed to work the process ended and i powered it off, removed the SD and tried to boot it up. The only thing i see is the H96 Pro+ Logo and thats it. I tried to boot from the SD Card again but it didn't work. I reflashed the SD card, changed the dtb file etc, just to make sure it would boot normally but nothing. I can't boot into the armbian. It hangs at "waiting for a root file system", and repeats the line many times. Then says "Give up waiting for root file system device. Then, " Alert UUID=UUID-number-here does not exist, dropping to shell". It is armbian 24.5 image and dtb file is /dtb/amlogic/meson-sm1-sei610.dtb. I created the u-boot.ext from u-boot-s905x3 file. What I am missing? I tried to stop the autoboot, but it starts with 0 and doesn't even count. Here is the screenshot https://imgur.com/a/9dYm2B9

Good morning all, I share my Armbian experience on the Beelink GT-King Pro, and therefore after several tests where the system often ended up frozen, I currently have a stable armbian system running. I was able to install my web-server at home (Yunohost) and everything seems to be working fine .. So I share : I used Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_buster_current_5.9.0.img from https://users.armbian.com/balbes150/arm-64/? which I flashed on a USB key I recovered the meson-g12b-gt-king-pro.dtb file from the last Manjaro Manjaro-ARM-xfce-vim3-21.03.img I recovered the uboot.ext file on the debian 5.10 build by @darkstar => http://forum.bee-link.com/forum.php?mod=…

Dear all, Ok ok, I realize my previous post with $100 for this task is a bit low. Please do keep in mind, that this is only my personal hobby project. With that in mind, I hereby offer $500 to anyone, who can update the DTB file to work with the current version of Armbian. BTW, I have a freelancer.com account with a 5.0 rating as employer (as well as freelancer): https://www.freelancer.com/u/LeHawkDeLaNight - I can start a new project for you there, so there is no doubts about getting payed the $500. Hello, I'm trying to start ARMbian in my new TX3 mini (Amlogic S902w)...but I'm always having trouble in ARMbian boot. It always says Kernel Panic - not syncing: Asynchronous SError Interrupt. The error changes the way that the message appears but its always this Kernel Panic in CPU.. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, I'm trying so many DTB's with all these 3 u-boot.ext, but without success. I don't know if I should change the BOOT ARGS in extlinux.conf. Trying to figure out how to initiate toothpick mode in order to flash a minimal iot Armbian image. I found a recovery1 button (accessed from a pinhole) but holding this while powering on, or holding the 'power' button while powering on, doesn't seem to get me anywhere. It seems that whenever I insert my 32G sdcard (maybe not supported?), something happens where the stock android does not boot after the initial MINIX splash screen, but just sits on a black screen (regardless of how I may have powered it on). Initially I thought it was doing something, so I let it run overnight.. I restarted it in the am, but when I removed the SDCard, it just booted…

This issue is specifically about an issue where 'sometimes' a box will fail to boot off of emmc (after having booted successfully previously). The workaround is to boot once from SD card and then the emmc boot generally works fine again. I am starting this thread as a central place to discuss this issue that has been reported by a few people that I know. @lgranie and @robertoenr both have reported this problem either recently or in the past and I see it myself frequently. It would appear that something is getting set in the uboot environment that is causing the boots to fail and fixed/cleared by a boot from SD card. I haven't had time to look…

HI, I have another post about Mini MXIII-II (if you have it, please start reading this post: My next step, as @SteeMan said me in that post, is to check "all" things in the SD card before installing armbian to the emmc. I have detected problems with audio and bluetooth. HDMI, WIFI, USB, LAN seems to work. If you will check anything more, please, tell me, thanks. My question is about... I think that hardware is defined in the DTB file, so ... could I check one by one "all" dtb files? (I mean only ones that have S905X in their names). does it make sense? Any other DTB file that I could test? Thanks.

Hi, I would like to maintain the kernel version updated on the box (for video reading performance because I still got some stearing when the camera moves horizontaly). Now that there is no more support for amlogic (I can understand why reading the forum), can I use the available bullseye/linux-image-current-meson64 package from the armbian repo (which is now 5.9.6 not 5.9.0)? As I understand is it not that easy to compile a kernel by myself because there is so much patches applied. Best regards, Laurent.

I purchased this fake clone TV box of the classic Tanix TX3 Mini 2GB Ram 16GB Rom for around 20 dollars (including shipping). Proper way to install Armbian linux on H96 Pro Plus s912 or equivalent CLI ver. for those who have trouble in their existing systems. I have been installing/testing on my old dusty H96 pro plus Armbian Linux tested both flavours Debian and Ubuntu from almost all sources nothing works 100% on emmc except one source and installing method which i will mention below. Problem faced: Even correct SDcard burn with proper uncomment dtb for s912 and rename correct uboot as mentioned all over the forums: - installing on emmc problem, system halt on reboot/shutdown/power on/idle, Ethernet disconnection, no WiFi even with correct ath10…

I've been trying to do this for about a month already, just subscribed because instructions were so messy (and found a lot of closed+deprecated threads that simply could'nt follow up) I can't find these files: They are nowhere. Followed instructions from almos every thread/tutorial, even the closed ones that point to a newer one to no avail. ¿What am I missing?

Loving this project. Hats off to Balbes150 and all. I can't fathom the effort it has taken to get to here! I have a Sunvell T95Z plus with a S912 processor. I can boot Armbian_20.02.0-rc1.037_Aml-s9xxx_bionic_current_5.5.0-rc6_desktop_20200205 from SD card. Using any of the following dtb files: Meson-gxm-vega-s96 Meson-gxm-khadas-vim2 Meson-gxm-nexbox-a1 Meson-gxm-q201 Meson-gxm-q200 All seem to work and boot to the desktop and play the test video. Friends, as shown in the image, I am trying to install a Linux system on this BTV: OTT BOX, model B11 with an Amlogic S905X3 CPU. However, I am not succeeding because it cannot read the USB drive. I have already tried changing the .ext, attempted to burn the image using Rufus, Balena, and nothing worked. I am using a Multilaser USB drive which I believe is 2.0. At the moment I don’t have another USB drive or memory card to test. Any suggestions?

Hello everyone, I own this android box and I followed this tutorial https://ragone.dev/post/install-linux-on-android-tv-box which is based on tutorials on armbian website, I tried to install Armbian 25.8 server with Debian. Everything went fine until the step "5. Flash Armbian to the internal eMMC", despite me running the install-aml.sh script and getting a complete message in the end (see following images for script execution output), when I reboot it just always starts from the sd (see the following screenshot showing that the mounted storage is 16 GB, but my box internal storage is 8 GB). fdisk -l output to also show the i…

Hello. I have easily managed to get armbian up and running of a usb stick, in fact everything worked perfect (hdmi, wifi, gbit ethernet, etc.). The tv box is h96-air-gbit (as the dtb is named), amlogic s905x3 soc, 32gb mmc, 4gb RAM, gigabit ethernet, 2xusb 2.0, 1xusb 3.0, sd card, hdmi, av port (reset button inside), spdif. The thing is, I wanted to benefit from the 32gb internal mmc storage, since I was running armbian from a 8gb usb stick (had a lot of those hanging around, and didn't want to buy a bigger one). I did notice the image I used had not armbian-install script, nor nand-sata-install. I did a manual install (snapshot copy) of my current system with the help of…

Hello I have a vontar x3, S905x3 tv box and I have installed the latest Armbian 24.11.0-trunk.66 Noble Gnome version. If I made an apt upgrade the box does not boot. If I freeze Armbian Kernel Update through armbian-config utility (freeze update of armbian-firmware linux-dtb-current-meson64 linux-image-current-meson64 packages), I can make apt upgrade and the system boots and working fine. Is the above behaviour normal or I am missing something? Thank you in advance.

Hello and thanks for this great posting. I have a Tronsmart Vega S95 Telos. The boot logo from AmLogic says simply S905 and that matches my understanding of the unit. I managed to boot Armbian from the SD card using the reset button. I played with it for a while and all seemed very good. So I went ahead and executed the /root/install-aml-s905-emmc.sh script. In general it seemed to work. Took a huge amount of time, especially in copying USR. But it did complete. However, when trying to boot thereafter all I get is a black screen for many minutes. Finally, I gave up and pulled the plug. Has anyone any idea what I might be doing wrong here? Thanks so…

Hi there, I'm very knew to this forum. Yesterday I successfully installed armbian 20.10 on my bqeel M9C MAX on sd card following this thread (https://forum.armbian.com/topic/12162-single-armbian-image-for-rk-aml-aw-aarch64-armv8/page/48/) I had no desktop manager available and tried several times to fix it by installing xfce4 and lightdm but with no success (I always had "xserverrc x not found" error). After that I accidentally run the script install-am.sh which properly completed the installation. After removing the SD and reboot I can no longer access Android :-o I surely went wrong running the script. The question is: there's any possibility to fix …

It is now 2 weeks I run linux-image-current-meson64 with no problems. I manage to get rid of tearing while playing video with vlc by using wayland/weston instead of X11/openbox (picom did not help). While playing video cpu goes from around 40% in X11 to 20% with weston \o/. You can find vlcd.service, scripts and config files in attached files. TODO list : - Move vlcd.service to weston.service and try to replace vlc-xxxx.sh scripts with ~/.config/systemd/vlcd.service - format /boot in ext4 vlcd.service vlcd-start.sh vlcd-stop.sh weston.ini vlcrc.wl

Hi Guys, I was trying to install Armbian in a couple of boxes buit I had no luck. One is a SEI500W from SEI Robotics with AML 905X2 and the other is a Sagecom DIW 585 with AML 905X I followed the process and after trying to boot to recovery they start Andoid tv as normal (just takes more time). In the other hand I was able to run EMUELEC (Gaming emulator) on both devices with an image on SD so I'm assuming the problem is not a block. What do you think? Is there any ideas to try? Thank you in advance!

@hexdumpI have a s905x box with secure boot enabled, I can run armbian from usb drive with your chainload uboot, and trying to run it on emmc. It looks like both chainloaded mainline uboot and armbian cannot find any partitions from emmc. My box have secure boot enabled so there is no way to replace the original u-boot. I have no idea how to deal with that.

Hi, I am returning to Armbian after quite a few years. I was trying to follow guidance from nexbox-a95x-armbian and after a search found the debian & Ubunt images (https://www.armbian.com/uefi-arm64/) which I downloaded and wrote to a USB using Rufus (also balenaEtcher). I then tries to look at the FAT32 partition contents but the GPT was corrupt - tried many windows tools and Linux.I "repaired" the GPT using Linux tools but then the FAT32 filesystem was corrupt. What am I doing wrong? any help much appreciated

I would be immensely if anyone bright enough to help me. I have an android TV box running Android 7.1 on a S912B Mygica 1960. I have tried for days a while back to get this device to boot up with Ubunta and have given up. I opened a case about this some time ago, and have actually given up and now I am tackling it again. Running this results in the following error 21 (see below); — No package file selected. -- Install /sdcard/aml_autoscript.zip Finding updat…

Hello there, I followed from afar the advancement of the support on TV boxes for a while already, and I happened to stumble uppon a very cheap one on my local market. The specs are the following : -Amlogic S905W -2GB of ram -16GB of EMMC Following are some pictures I took, that shows the bare PCB. I hope that it will help answering questions I have. After looking into many written tutorials on getting armbian to boot on such machine, I have tested all .dtb files that are available, as long as quadruple-checked the u-boot file that needed to be used with that specific chip. I use the x96 air 2g_100m (s905x3) version. I used Armbian for amlogic(bulls_eye, xfce) boxes as specified in the tutorial here. I tried with many dtbs, (it even had one named x96 air) all of the didn't work. So I tried the u-boot.ext file from this Manjaro for Arm tutorial. (The link for the archive). This combined with 'meson-sm1-x96-air.dtb' file worked great and I was able to boot from SD card without any hiccups. And for the first time, the onboard wifi was working flawlessly. I could only get it to work with Coreelec before. With this, I decided to write it to emmc . I used the 'install-aml.sh' to do this and it completed successfully. But when I rebooted from em…

Hello, I'm new to embedded linux installation, so please bear with me. So I purchased an android tv box labeled h96max S905L3 from TEMU. Specifications (if the label is trustworthy): RAM: 2GB, ROM:16GB, running android 14.0. On the pcb it says: s905_zx02_v01. I was trying to install any kind of linux to it using a bootable usb, I just need a simple shell capable of running an http server. Hi, I'm new to the Armbian community, but I have used Linux before. Recently, I followed this tutorial: https://i12bretro.github.io/tutorials/0316.html to flash Armbian 20.10 Bullseye on what I suspect is a fake TX3 Mini. It has a red motherboard probably not a p-281 board, it could be a q201_N device as twrp said before installing Armbian. Anyways, Armbian detects 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage in it. It most likely has either an S905X or S912 CPU since I used "u-boot-s905x-s912" during the process. After flashing the SD card with Armbian, I was able to boot successfully. I then installed Armbian using the terminal with "inst…

Hello everyone, I successfully installed Armbian to eMMC on an Amlogic S805X (gxl_p241 / p241 board). The system boots correctly when I manually start it from U-Boot, but autoboot fails every time. I believe my bootloader / U-Boot environment is not properly configured. During flashing, I only selected the DTB, and I am not sure how the bootloader variables should be set for eMMC boot. if it didnt work ,how to manually install u-boot U-Boot log ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- USB XHCI 1.00 scanning bus 0 for devices... 2 USB Device(s) found scanning usb for storage devices... …

Hi guys, I am new here. I have a generic board powered by armlogic 905x. I have installed armbian on this board with this image : Armbian_21.08.1_Amlogic-GXL_bullseye_current_5.10.60.img.xz. Everything went OK, I could ssh the server, but when let server idle for about an hour, I couldn't ssh again, ping also didn't work, seem like server went on sleep mode. How to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

I've this old tv box from a brazilian brand, called Intelbras IZY Play, the OEM appears to be SDMC, with the codename DV8038, it uses the s805x SoC. From what I've looked, it should be compatible using the files meson-gxl-s805x-p241.dtb u-boot-s905x-s912 The device does not have an SD card slot, so i'm trying to do it with a flash drive, however, after flashing it with balenaEtcher and doing the necessary changes to the files in my Windows PC, I cannot get it to boot, it justs enters a loop of showing the splash screen, turning off, showing the splash screen, and so on. I'm trying to turn it on pressing the hidden button …

I have an Alfawise H96 Pro + Box with Android 7, how can I boot it? When i press the reset button it boots into Android Recovery

G'day all this is my first post here, the title describes the brand model, apparent ram size and storage capacity of my tv-box, I know the chip has to be an S905* because I can boot coreelec with the dtb of s905W, but in armbian's case no luck yet. The device doesn't have an sd slot, however I was able to boot coreelec by using a usb drive and ADB. basically adb-connected to it and issued "adb reboot update". I have a similar device as this guy I think if not exactly the same: https://forum.atvxperience.com/viewtopic.php?t=6432 So what options do I have? Any help is welcome 😀

So i've been using the build: "Armbian_community_24.8.0-trunk.6_Aml-s9xx-box_jammy_edge_6.8.10" and trying to burn it with balenaEtcher. The issue is that when ending to verify and configuring - inserting the sd card into a TX3 Mini (board is v1.6) goes into a bootloop. This does happen with all of my sd cards and flash drives, and no, its not that they're faulting, CoreELEC does flash and boot correctly in all of them. I also did the f3 test, and no issues were found. Something particular that I have found is that macOS does detect very easily the corruption and ejects the drive/card, while Windows just lets it pass "as intended" I'…
