Armbian now has a community supported build target for amlogic TV Boxes (aml-s9xx-box). You can now build your own builds directly with the Armbian build system. This is now an opportunity for members of the community to move the support for amlogic TV boxes forward within the Armbian framework. If you are not familiar with the Armbian build system check out the Armbian developer documentation. If you have idea on how you would like to see things evolve/change please use this forum to share your thoughts and ideas and submit PRs for any code changes you would like to see. I am currently testing this code against the four different amlogic based …

Hello, I need to ask this stupid question... I have an aging m8 tv box.(k200)..so i would like to ask if it's viable to run Armbian on it... Currently i have a beelink x2 running just beautifully armbian ....GREAT job to all the devs .....but i am thinking of using it more as a TV box and less as a linux server....so it would be great if i could replace M8 with beelink and use m8 for linux ... TIA

Hi, so after many hours of trial and error I have managed to get the latest Armbian with Kernel 6.1.27 running on my old mxq s805 tv box. Albeit only thing that is not working is hdmi output and wifi. So for anyone else trying to accomplish something similar, my steps were: https://github.com/hzyitc/armbian-onecloud Downloaded the latest release of this build for the onecloud device as it also runs on the s805 amlogic chipset (props to the developer for still updating) Burn the image to your sd card. Then after the image is burned, create a textfile on the root of the sd card and name it „uEnv.txt“ …

@SteeMan - in case you want to experiment (i.e. not sure if it really works), you might play around with chainloading the g12a-u-boot.bin (s905x2) and sm1-u-boot.bin (s905x3) from https://github.com/hexdump0815/u-boot-misc/releases/tag/200926-01 or gxb-u-boot.bin (s905) or gxl-u-boot.bin (s905x) from https://github.com/hexdump0815/u-boot-misc/releases/tag/200718-01 ... basic chainloading goes like this - https://github.com/hexdump0815/imagebuilder/blob/master/boot/boot-amlogic_gx-aarch64/s905_autoscript.txt - maybe compare it to the balbes150 boot scripts for fancier ways and most probably better armbian integration ... the files mostly exist in a serial version for seria…

Hi, my previous Armbian (21.08.1 focal 5.10.60 desktop) was successfully installed to emmc. (install_aml_gxl_emmc.sh) After I tried the latest firmware (Armbian_23.02.0-trunk_Aml-s9xx-box_kinetic_edge_6.0.12_xfce_desktop), I felt a big change in speed. The problem is, I've tried several times to move it to emmc and it always fails to boot. (install-aml.sh) Any suggestions I need to look into before running the script again? Thank you

I’m using the DEVMFC version [https://github.com/devmfc/debian-on-amlogic]. Additionally, I took the `/boot` partition and copied all the files from the Devmfc_Ubuntu-Oracular_6.12.11-meson64_Minimal-25.01.24.img.xz image. Then, I downloaded the same version available from the Armbian community, but with a graphical interface: Armbian_community_25.5.0-trunk.4_Aml-s9xx-box_noble_current_6.12.12_xfce_desktop.img.xz. I first flashed the Armbian image onto a USB drive. Then, in the `/boot` partition, I moved all existing root files into a `/backup` folder. After that, I copied the files from the DEVMFC version into the root of the `/boot` partition on the USB driv…

This issue is specifically about an issue where 'sometimes' a box will fail to boot off of emmc (after having booted successfully previously). The workaround is to boot once from SD card and then the emmc boot generally works fine again. I am starting this thread as a central place to discuss this issue that has been reported by a few people that I know. @lgranie and @robertoenr both have reported this problem either recently or in the past and I see it myself frequently. It would appear that something is getting set in the uboot environment that is causing the boots to fail and fixed/cleared by a boot from SD card. I haven't had time to look…

Hello, I am currently using a TV BOX X96 Mini running Android TV 9 and using AMLOGIC S905W CPU. Then I was intending to run on ARMBIAN, so I followed the instructions on this WEB: [https://i12bretro.github.io/tutorials/0316.html] After doing the full setup steps, I used 2 ways : Method 1: Press the reset button on the TVBOX to boot (But not in armbian but in android ] Method 2: I used the application available on the TVbox which is [UPDATE] to run [aml.autoscript.zip], and after I press the update button it enters the Download Mode of the TV box and gives an error, and that's me Can't get into ARMBIAN

Hello Guys. What Armbian version and image would you recommend? I have a TESLA MediaTech X700 Pro with soc s905x2 in it. I would like to use it to play movies via kodi and play retro games e.g. via RetroArch. Previously I used CoreELEC on an sd-card that is great for movies. Retro gaming only with wired Xbox One or Xbox Series controllers (xone driver for MS USB Xbox dongle did not work there). I would like to use my Xbox controllers wirelessly. Thank you for your advice.

Hello, I am trying to add support for H96 Max X4 android box Here are the specs of my box: SOC: amlogic S905x4 RAM: 2GB Pictures I am trying to run this box as a raspberry pi alternative as I can't find a pi anywhere. So my first intuition was to boot coreelec and try to move on from there. I tried their prebuild image and followed their guide but no succe…

Hello there I've installed Armbian on my MXQ Pro 4K 5G TV box's eMMC, but now I want to upgrade to a better external storage. I've flashed Armbian on it and done the usual configuration but I always boot into the eMMC's Armbian. I've read that one way to fix this is to restore Android with the Amlogic USB Tool, but I found that my board has no reset button, not even hidden inside the jacks. So I'm afraid I won't be able to enter recovery mode to flash the default Android image. Here are some pics of the board: Is there any other way to force boot from USB, or force recovery mode? Thank you! I've found a solution…

I follow the method here: My box can now see the wifi, but there are a few quirks: 1. It sees only some of the 5Ghz band. For example, it can't see my own 5Ghz AP, but can see my neighborhood 5G APs 2. when connected with either 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz band, and I did the speed test. It is fine with the download speed, but the upload speed is just less than 1Mbps, always. Thus, the connection is virtually useless, e.g. I can vnc to it, but it shows black screen because the screen can't be uploaded to my vnc client due to the upload speed problem. Is there any work around? My armbian: Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0_desktop.img dtb file: /d…

Good morning all, I share my Armbian experience on the Beelink GT-King Pro, and therefore after several tests where the system often ended up frozen, I currently have a stable armbian system running. I was able to install my web-server at home (Yunohost) and everything seems to be working fine .. So I share : I used Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_buster_current_5.9.0.img from https://users.armbian.com/balbes150/arm-64/? which I flashed on a USB key I recovered the meson-g12b-gt-king-pro.dtb file from the last Manjaro Manjaro-ARM-xfce-vim3-21.03.img I recovered the uboot.ext file on the debian 5.10 build by @darkstar => http://forum.bee-link.com/forum.php?mod=…

Loving this project. Hats off to Balbes150 and all. I can't fathom the effort it has taken to get to here! I have a Sunvell T95Z plus with a S912 processor. I can boot Armbian_20.02.0-rc1.037_Aml-s9xxx_bionic_current_5.5.0-rc6_desktop_20200205 from SD card. Using any of the following dtb files: Meson-gxm-vega-s96 Meson-gxm-khadas-vim2 Meson-gxm-nexbox-a1 Meson-gxm-q201 Meson-gxm-q200 All seem to work and boot to the desktop and play the test video. But I am hitting the common ethernet and wifi failure. Meson8b-dwmac c9410000.ethernet eth0: no phy at addr -1 Meson8b-dwmac c9410000.ethernet eth0…

I've just started looking into installing a Linux distribution on my X96 Air P3 with 4 GB RAM and 64GB eMMC, but as it seems there is a lot of conflicting info around, especially concerning the gigabit ethernet port that is supposedly only working with 100Mbit/s? Is there any tutorial on how to get started and choose the right image + proper DTB? The intention is to install to the eMMC and use the box as a small home server exclusively

Hello! I recently started to play with this box and couldnt boot anything at all, as if reset button on AV port didnt work. So I downloaded terminal app for android and typed "reboot update" as suggested here https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread/4076-mxq-box-won-t-boot-into-sd-card-le-or-recovery/?postID=29844#post29844 (toothpick method doesnt work at all), and managed to enter recovery, so then I put ARMBIAN on SD and did "reboot update" from Android and booted Armbian. It worked fine... Until I wanted to try LibreELEC or EmuELEC and now the box doesnt boot Android (stuck at MXQ 4K Pro logo) and wont boot anything on SD as LibreELEC, EmuELEC, it only boots Armb…

Hello guys! I have a T95Z Plus TV BOX with 3GB RAM, 32GB ROM, and an arm S912 CPU. I can run Armbian just fine from the SD card, but when I try to install it on the eMMC, I get an error message saying something like, "You're already running from eMMC, or the eMMC was not found." And, obviously, I'm not running from eMMC, so it seems like the system just isn't detecting it. I did some research, and it seems like there might be different eMMC manufacturers for the same T95Z Plus model. So, I might need to adjust the "Max frequency" parameter in the .DTB file for the T95Z Plus in order for Armbian to recognize the eMMC on my device. D…

Hi Everyone, I hope that some good and skilled guy can help me to solve my problem. According to some topics on this forum I decided to buy a vontar x3 because some of you said that it work fully on armbian after some tweaks. The problem is that even if I follow all of the guided steps caught on differents topics of this forum, my vontar x3 fall in an infinite reboot loop as long as I try to boot on my SD card with the toothpick method. Hereunder is the very simple methodology I follow - surely something is wrong but I don't know what it is... - I downloaded a bootstrap image of armbian on the armbian repo of b…

Hello, I am a owner of a Nokia streambox 8000. I have been trying to install Armbian on it, but without luck. The board specification of the tv box: Board: Amlogic S905X3 ARM Mali-G31-MP2 I have been using the images from here: (external link to site not affiliated with Armbian). I tried the S905X3 jammy and bullseye versions. The installation procedure that I have been trying out is as following: 1. Download armbian_s905x3 img from github repository releases. 2. Use balenaEtcher to burn the image into a USB stick. 3. Once burned; Open the BOOT drive. 4. Rename u-boot-s905x2-s922.bin to u-boot.ext 5. Edit …

HI, I have another post about Mini MXIII-II (if you have it, please start reading this post: My next step, as @SteeMan said me in that post, is to check "all" things in the SD card before installing armbian to the emmc. I have detected problems with audio and bluetooth. HDMI, WIFI, USB, LAN seems to work. If you will check anything more, please, tell me, thanks. My question is about... I think that hardware is defined in the DTB file, so ... could I check one by one "all" dtb files? (I mean only ones that have S905X in their names). does it make sense? Any other DTB file that I could test? Thanks.

Dear all, I own a 4G/64G H96 MAX X3, and I have tried using the pre-compiled Armbian_20.07_Arm-64_focal_current_5.7.8_desktop.img multiplatform Armbian Focal image together with the DTB by @root-stas with very good success (it seemed to work quite well in my usage, I noticed some instability in the Chromium browser, I'm aware the graphics support was not yet ready). I tried the new 2020.10, so far without GUI and I see that it boots correctly, giving me a terminal on the UART terminals I soldered on the PCB (I kept the wires tidy, and hope those pads last). I have some experience with building a Linux kernel, creating a simple kernel module, and some mar…

Hi, I have an A95X F3 Air tv box that has an s905x3 chipset. I followed the instructions here. I believe i used the correct dtb file and tested out multiple others. I've tried reformatting my drive with SD card formatter. I've tried flashing my stock firmware. However I cannot seem to get armbian to boot. I'm getting no video output. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. I've searched high and low on the internet and I could not find a solution. I have seen aml_autoscript.zip being mentioned here and there however the image I've downloaded doesn't seem to have it. Any help would be appreciated.

I was dumb enough to try and update uboot on this little box and then it got sort of bricked. When connected using serial I could see it loop trying to boot from EMMC so I tried the reset button recovery to no avail. Shorting the EMMC pins works putting the device in recovery mode but the usb burn tool is stuck on formatting at 7% after it seems to sucesfull removed (and maybe flashed) uboot but the serial connection still shows it looping on EMMC. So I tried the next thing, shorting EMMC while connected using serial and I could the looping change to include sd and usb. So I made a sd recovery card using the burn card tool and it can boot from it, I can see ub…

I have an OTT TV Box, model ABOX-A1 ( 1G + 8G, S905X ). It is running Armbian 23.11.1 bookworm. How can I have hardware video decoding? Hardware video decoding support seems present in the 6.1.63-current-meson64 kernel. It seems only the V4L2 M2M API is present. Some firmware seems missing. I was getting "meson-vdec c8820000.video-codec: Direct firmware load for meson/vdec/gxl_h264.bin failed with error -2" in dmesg. I don't know what package I need to install. Hello everyone, I recently acquired a Tigre 2 TV Box with the following hardware specifications: Amlogic S905X processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB NAND storage (SkHynix). I attempted to install the Armbian operating system, and the installation process started from a USB drive. I've read that it might be possible to recover a bricked device by putting it into MaskROM mode through a process involving a short circuit. However, I'm not entirely sure how to do this, and I'm hoping someone here can provide guidance or steps on how to put my Tigre 2 TV Box …

The latest releases of armbian 23.01 with kernel 6.1 do not run from SD cards on the HK1 box S903x5. If I use USB flash, armbian starts. I got couple of Amlogic S905 and S905x boxes. And i think i've used at least a 7-8 hours to see if i can get these to work again. I tried to use the lastest images with S905 boxes, and it is has been a real hassle to get it working. Some times i had to hook up an USB disk in addition to get it to boot the rootfs. And when i finally get into the OS, the network won't work. Both the built in Ethernet port and an USB Ethernet adapter. Both can detect a link, but unable to to receive IP from DHCP nor is it possible when manually assigned to get it to ping the GW. Is support for such devices by @balbes150still something that he still does?

While playing video cpu goes from around 40% in X11 to 20% with weston \o/. You can find vlcd.service, scripts and config files in attached files. TODO list : - Move vlcd.service to weston.service and try to replace vlc-xxxx.sh scripts with ~/.config/systemd/vlcd.service - format /boot in ext4 vlcd.service vlcd-start.sh vlcd-stop.sh weston.ini vlcrc.wl

Hi, I would like to maintain the kernel version updated on the box (for video reading performance because I still got some stearing when the camera moves horizontaly). Now that there is no more support for amlogic (I can understand why reading the forum), can I use the available bullseye/linux-image-current-meson64 package from the armbian repo (which is now 5.9.6 not 5.9.0)? As I understand is it not that easy to compile a kernel by myself because there is so much patches applied. Best regards, Laurent.

Hi, newb on this board, am so stuck with this box I had no choice but to register. I can run "LibreELEC-LePotato.arm-9.0.2.img" from usb without problem. I can also run "Armbian_5.44_S9xxx_Debian_stretch_3.14.29_xfce_20180601.img" without further meaningful problems. trying to get this MXQPro 4k (S905XQ p212 8gb) running with Balbes150's last 20.10 Armbian but without any meaningful progress. As per Instructions/FAQ I copied u-boot-s905x-s912 to u-boot.ext also edited extlinux.conf label Armbian_S905X-p212 linux /zImage initrd /uInitrd fdt /dtb/meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb append root=label=rootfs rootflags=data=writeback rw console=ttyAML0,115200n8 co…

I just bought hk1box with S905x3 chip, 4G RAM and 64G EMMC. It's a great box running android 9.0 smoothly. It has TTL pads so it can be used to check system boot up log. I've tried to run armbian on it. The good news is that the latest version of balbes150 - Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0.img can boot up successfully. The bad news is that the screen is green. I've learned from forum that the issue is caused by Amlogic‘s modification of u-boot and need to have u-boot.ext to solve the problem. But no matter the version with the image file or the version from NicoD can not boot up. Both of them has the following prompt and then reb…

To run latest desktop build on F3 Air one can use below steps. I am not sure if there is an easier way exist. 1) Downloaded the image Armbian 22.05 Jammy XFCE from Odroid HC4 section. 2) Write to SD CARD, this will create ext4 partition. 3) Use Partition tool of your choice and create another Partition at the beginning of disk and format as FAT type. 4) copy the files from /Boot to FAT drive and place the u-boot.ext file from old release which worked for you earlier. 5) Place the extlinux folder with extlinux.conf file and update the FDT. 6) Rename the files like image and initrd as required. …

Hi @SteeMan! I have an H96 Max X2 S905X2 2GB/16GB box. I'm trying to get the ethernet port work in armbian for this box. Please see the attached high resolution images of the motherboard of this box. Some related info printed on the boards: S70-905X2-V2 2018-11-15 CZ1830 SX18122 (wifi/bluetooth chip? I get nothing from googling these strings) Red marker is the location of the NAND short to be used to unbrick the box. Here is what I found so far: 1. Wifi does not work even in stock android rom, not to mention any kind of custom rom / armbian, so I have absolute zero hope for wifi. And I broke bluetooth after accidentally performing a full era…

Hi, I plan on installing Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.9.0.img.xz on my rather old wetek play 2, to be used as a home server. I just want to confirm, I have been trolling through the forums that this version appears to be the latest one that can be installed? Am I also correct in assuming debian is more stable than ubuntu? Since majority of my containers are networking related, this is what I value most above, bluetooth wifi etc...

Hi Guys, I was trying to install Armbian in a couple of boxes buit I had no luck. One is a SEI500W from SEI Robotics with AML 905X2 and the other is a Sagecom DIW 585 with AML 905X I followed the process and after trying to boot to recovery they start Andoid tv as normal (just takes more time). In the other hand I was able to run EMUELEC (Gaming emulator) on both devices with an image on SD so I'm assuming the problem is not a block. What do you think? Is there any ideas to try? Thank you in advance!

I flash the armbian Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS into the box (2GB/16GB S905X X96 mini) internal emmc long time ago and it is still working without problem. Now I need to upgrade Ubuntu to a newer version (at least 18.04) in order to support some software which requires a newer version of Ubuntu. My question is how can I do the upgrade? Any instruction how to do it in my scenario (armbian already running from internal emmc, not sdcard). Thank you

@hexdumpI have a s905x box with secure boot enabled, I can run armbian from usb drive with your chainload uboot, and trying to run it on emmc. It looks like both chainloaded mainline uboot and armbian cannot find any partitions from emmc. My box have secure boot enabled so there is no way to replace the original u-boot. I have no idea how to deal with that.
