Software, Applications, Userspace

Issues or questions that are hardware-independent regarding various 3rd party / userspace software and applications

  1. Does anyone know how a do-release-upgrade affect an Armbian 24.8.3 installation? Had anyone upgraded to the 24.04.1 LTS release of Ubuntu? Any gotyas when upgrading? Things to do and things to avoid? What changes to allow and which to deny? I've done a release upgrade once, it took a long time and questions were asked and options presented suring the release upgrade process. Obviously I'll take an image of the MicroSD card before I even dream of attempting to use the do-release-upgrade.

  2. Getting an external IP address over network request as part of MOTD info is completle ruined ssh session start when board cant connect to desired server to get this address. It's get_wan_address function inside https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/main/packages/bsp/common/etc/update-motd.d/30-armbian-sysinfo . You can easy check this just by disable access to internet on you router and try to open new ssh session. After i mask this function call all worked well. Unfortunately i cant figure out how to send issue on GitHub due to redirect to some Google form, so there am i.

May guess is the swap on the SD card went bad years ago. I like to get this working again it was working real good back then till it did not boot any more. At the end of the boot on the Serial port it looks like this: [FAILED] Failed to start The Apache HTTP Server. See 'systemctl status apache2.service' for details. Hi, just to be clear I've zero doubt the problem is me but this is a recurring issue and I've been unable to nut it out on my own. I've found (both with bullseye and bookworm) that installing Wireguard borks my system - ie I am unable to boot after install. I'm running headless and therefore am limited diagnostically (I can't say what errors are occurring when attempting to reboot) I realise this'll make my problem frustrating for a lot of folks to engage with but any ideas at all'd be helpful. When first using Armbian a few years back it seemed as though the issue was that the LTS kernel did not include wireguard support and I discover…

Hello I wanted to post on here regarding a new project we have been working on called SimpNAS. Its similar to OpenMediaVault or FreeNAS but simpler and more basic. Its currently in Beta but we are looking to have a stable release by the time Kobol ARM NAS gets released. It can be installed on armbian devices as long as it has two hard drives one for the OS and one for Data. For example we have it installed on an ODroid HC2, but can be installed on any PC. Feedback will be greatly appreciated.

This race condition affects sshd in its default configuration. Are we affected running Armbian ?

I'm not sure where to report this. I think this is a common problem across distros for arm. I had this same problem with manjaro arm a month ago. On a fresh install of armbian. 24.3 cli. Emacs 28.x is available. It is missing a lot of elpa packages because of out of date gpg keys. It cannot find elpa.gnu packages. It is, for me, completely unable to load and use my emacs configuration. Package-initialize and package-refresh-contents do not fix it. I built the current emacs from source, it's version 29.3 and that works much better.

With about 15 entries in FQDN format in the /etc/hosts file, and the hostname set to whats before the first dot of one of the entries, ip a still doesn't show an ipv4 address. and ip r is an empty return. What all do I need to set?, it all looks kosher to me.

  54. Hi there, I am trying to blacklist a module by adding 'blacklist rtl2832_sdr' to /etc/modprobe.d/rtl2832_sdr.conf I follow this by issuing 'update-initramfs -u' and rebooting. This is a standard way of doing things on Linux, yet somehow all of the modules continue to show up. System is up to date, running on Orange Pi Zero 3, if that matters. I expect this is a bug of some sort, since I saw it mentioned elsewhere here in the forums that this is the way to go, too?

  57. Hello, I encounted an issue with chromium. By default, armbian has PSD (profile-sync-deamon) enabled, and when chromium started, it links the profile dir (~/.config/chromium) to /run/user/1000/chromium-user However, it breaks the cookies. If I reboot the box, and start chromium to visit a website I logged in, the login session was lost. I took me much time to understand the reason, finally I found it's the symbolic link. The temp solution for me is that I disabled the psd service, and the profile directory won't become a symbolic link. Now it works well. Next, I tried to find if it is psd or the symbolic link. I've been using Armbian for developing an image for running on some custom hardware based on an Allwinner S3 (SoC with a single arm v7 core and 128mb ram) and it has been really helpful. My system now runs the software it was built for, and i love having complete Debian for development, maintenance and debugging. However I would like to have the option of making the system more like an embedded system most of the time : for most of its life it's running a custom application that gets video from a camera, h264 encodes it and sends it and some other data out over a data link. When it's in this mode it would be great if it was more like a buildroot type syst…

My TV is being weird. I adjusted the taskbar so it’s not off screen, although I didn’t think about the minimize/maximize/etc being cut off. I tried looking around for a solution but didn’t find topics with solutions that worked. My TV is funky and doesn't have a video adjustment menu, so I can’t do that. And the resolutions available are supposed to be supported by my tv. Am I able to set screen boundaries, like a screen safe area so the display is not cut-off? If it’s not possible, it would make a nice feature.

With (current) armbian 24.2.1 neither wiringpi (gpio -v) works nor any direct access (like echo "4" > /sys/class/gpio/export) The only difference I can find is the version of armbian. Please give me a hint on how to get gpio-access working with the current armbian. Just wondering if having profile-sync-daemon (psd) is causing troubles to you. After installing Armbian, I noticed that whenever I was restarting Chromium and accessing youtube, the system was asking me a login. The authentication cookies were simply disappearing after each restart of chromium. To avoid that I removed a link of my .profile directory pointing to a tmpfs filesystem (you see the tmpfs file system, use the df command). I read that it is used to avoid read/write on storage, as all I/O are done in Ram, but obviously in my case it was not really working, as I was loosing my cookies. Does anyone else uses that feature?…
