Hello, I have questions related with overlay. I'm using Radxa Zero 3W and in the /boot/armbianEnv.txt it has overlay_prefix=rk35xx. I want to use this overlay /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/radxa-zero3-disabled-wireless.dtbo. If I cat /boot/boot.cmd it read the overlays with this line ${overlay_prefix}-${overlay_file}.dtbo. It means if I add overlays=disabled-wireless in /boot/armbianEnv.txt, it will not find the dtbo right? So my questions are, 1. Can I manually edit the overlay_prefix to radxa-zero3? 2. If can then will that has impact on the feature, eg kernel upgrade or anything?

  4. Hi I've just downloaded Armbian_21.02.3_Rock64_buster_current_5.10.21.img.xz for my Rock64 and flashed the image to a microSD card using BalenaEtcher. Over the last couple of days I've been writing a menu based script that creates a shutdown script to spin down HDDs during the shutdown phase on Linux based SoC PC. The reason behind the script is to get around an apparent problem whereby HDDs are forcefully being shut off when SoC PCs power off. I have posted this problem myself on the Open Media Vault forums, I have come across it here on the Armbian forums, the ODROID forums and also the Stack Exchange forums. During my script development and test…

  6. Hello friends, I apologize for such a noob question, but I was not able to find the answer in the forums, nor via duckduckgo. Since the 23.08 upgrades were released (thank you again to team Armbian!), I noticed that the "default" image for the Orange Pi 3 LTS is Armbian 23.8 Bookworm. The minimal CLI image weighs in at 267Mb. My OPi3LTS SBCs are all running Armbian Jammy 23.08. The minimal CLI image weighs in at 195Mb. My understanding is that Jammy is Ubuntu (22.04.3 LTS), and Bookworm is Debian (12.0). But also Ubuntu Jammy is based on Debian Bookworm/sid. My questions are as follows: 1. What goes …

Power supplies have been used before with same boards and same SD cards, but after re-installation of various armbian installations, it's laggy. 15. I'm looking to update my current Armbian File server (orange pi plus). The main reason is to gain USB3 for faster file serving, particularly rsync. I have little need for most of the features available (bluetooth, wifi, gpio, audio, hdmi), just a stable, low-cost, box that has usb3/gigabit ethernet and doesn't need a fan. I was thinking of an orange pi 3 lts for this purpose-- it seems to run armbian, and it won't break the bank at 54usd shipped with case + power supply. Do you see any problems with this choice or have alternative choices?

Hi, Following advice regarding the Ubunto 18.04 issue where RDP throws you back to the login window if an account is already logged into the console, I'd like to disable autologon to the GUI on my Armbian_5.75_Orangepilite_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.20 installation. I've looked up a couple of similar questions on this issue on the forum already but I think the others describe disabling the GUI altogether, which I don't want to do. Is it just a case of setting the variable NODM_USER in /etc/default/nodm to equal nothing or 0 or something else? Thanks!

Hi all, I enjoy Armbian overall and appreciate the support that goes into its upkeep. I previously used the ayufan images but found that those were updated less frequently than I desired and I've wanted to run OpenMediaVault 5.x + and Python3.x+ which have major issues with the Debian 9/Stretch and Kernel 4.x and run better on kernel 5.x and newer. After reinstalling Armbian on a new SD card and porting my old system over from that image, everything generally works well, however there have been some slow-downs. Hi all, I'm looking for an sbc with low power consumption, but still able to run linux (arduino like solutions are somewhat unflexible, and take longer to configure). Basically it should be able to do rs232 and be able to store data to an sd card. It should be able to run approximately two weeks on batteries. Wifi/ethernet/hdmi are not required if there is a way to use a serial console (apart from the extra rs232 which is connected to our measuring device). I already own a banana pi (original) and raspberry pi zero (apart from other boards which draw much more power). Are there any boards I could check out that have significantly lower power u…

Hi Folks, this is just out of the blue but Armbian based on Devuan would be very cool. I find more manageable and predictable Devuan than Debian, I am slowing ditching Debian for Devuan, I recently tested both on some very little Linux compatible laptops and Devuan resulted in better compatibility and lesser weird issue with ACPI and LID operations. I use Runit as default init system and for desktop use I found it very stable: for instance when connected to the wifi printer if the printer goes in standby systemd is unable to reconnect to the scanner (you to restart sane) while runit is always on; there are plenty on these little cases where Devuan …

  54. I got Armbian 23.8.2 Bookworm with Linux 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx successfully running on a couple of NanoPi R6S boxes. So far so good. Now I would like to use Wifi dongles (USB sticks) that I have on these machines. They use the `ath9k_htc` kernel driver. I have used this successfully on ARM-based machines earlier. However, Armbian does not provide this module. So I need to compile it myself (either obtain the exact sources that were used in the kernel I'm currently running, so I can recompile this single module or, perhaps more realistically, start a custom tree with the Armbian patches and config, from which I can rebuild on my own). I…

However I now hear that it's much more stable. I been using ZFS on FreeBSD without any issues for years and I would prefer it but it seems that it's a hit and miss to get it working. The documentation for log2ram says that if I delete /etc/cron.daily/log2ram it will only sync the logs to the disk at shutdown. But is there a way to have it not even do that? Also, in order to prevent log2ram from filling up all its space in RAM, is it possible to setup an overwrite mechanism so that the logs begin overwriting themselves once they hit the space limit?

I've heard people say that the Orange Pi is a "budget alternative" to the Raspberry Pi. On one hand, the Raspberry Pi has an excellent community, with a large user base that could really help you in your learning journey. On the other hand, the Orange Pi offers great value for money, and it's really tempting because the Raspberry Pi can be a bit pricey. What's your suggestion?

  73. Thank you for everything you’ve done. Armbian is amazing. On Raspberry PI devices, it’s possible to pass parameters to the kernel at boot-up and force certain IO pins to go high as soon as shutdown is complete. It’s along the lines of “dtoverlay=gpio-poweroff,gpiopin=xx”. I’m guessing that GPIO-POWEROFF is a kernel overlay, that it’s specific to Raspbian, and that Armbian may have a similar overlay. What’s the best way to discover the name of Armbian’s corresponding overlay, please? That overlay would enable me to configure the relevant single-board computer to send a signal at shutdown, a signal that would cause the charging/power circ…
