There is a bug (not really a bug...) in the copy process with rsync. Please add the -x option to rsync to copy the root file system to a SATA/USB drive. I have cifs/nfs filesystem from my main (file) server mounted and the installation tries to copy alle the network-drives to the local SATA/USB drive. I was wondering, why the hell the armbian-config says 1020MB to copy (around 3 min.) and after 1 hour it still was running rsync! Yes, it tried to copy hundreds of GB to the local 60GB SATA/USB drive! And... the script removes all extra fstab entries, so all network filesystem mounts are gone! Please, correct this bug!

Hi all, Recently I tried to replace the wireless module on NanoPi Neo Air and met some very strange phenomenon. I just solder off the AP6212 module and then replace it with an AP6234 module. When I use the factory FriendlyCore system with brcmfmac43340-sdio.bin & brcmfmac43340-sdio.txt in /lib/firmware/brcm, everything works ok. But when I use armbian system, the wifi just not work. It always down after about 10 seconds when the bcm43340 firmware load. And I remember previously armbian system works fine for AP6212, but AP6212A not work and has the similar problem with AP6234. I just build the the armbian use the mainline 4.14.…

Hi all, I just downloaded the latest Armbian Bionic release and tried the new 5.0 kernel. So far everything looks good, but I can't get openvpn to work. The /dev/net/tun device is missing and I can't load the module. Since I'm new to armbian and my search didn't turn up any help - is there a way to get it to work? Thanks in advance, Jan

Hello! I am new to Armbian, so I need a little help and advice here. Until now, I've been using a Banana Pi M1 with Bananian on it, and running NextCloud as my personal cloud server. Unfortunately, Bananian is dead, so there won't be any updated PHP version ( < 5.6), which are needed for recent NextCloud Version: NC 14 requires PHP 7, but Bananian (Debian 8.11) is stuck at PHP 5.6. Soo sad... That's why I need to switch to Armbian, and as far as I know, this project has no sword named "EOL" hovering above its head — at least not yet. ;) My questions are these: - Which version of Armbian would you recommend running NextClo…

I have compiled Armbian buster with Linux 5.4.32-rockchip64 with additional option in RTC clock and enabled DS1307. Everything is fine, the board can communicate with DS1307, but I am unable to use this /dev/rtc1 as the main hwclock instead on /dev/rtc (it points at /dev/rtc0 which is built in RTC). I have read many forums on Raspberry, this forum but it doesn work. I did: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/5346-rtc-ds1307-i2c-for-tinkerboard/ 1) Add "echo ds1307 0x68 > /sys/class/i2c-adapter/i2c-7/new_device" to /etc/rc.local, above the "exit 0" line at the bottom 2) In /lib/udev/hwclock-set comment out the lines below if [ -e /run/systemd/s…

Hi, I would like to get a Debian Jessie version without systemd. I already tried to reconfigure an armbian image to remove systemd (There are several topics about this like this one or this discussion). This worked for me except for one important thing: initramfs. When I tried to configure and run my system using initramfs, I get always an error and system stop booting. I would like to know if it is possible to configure the build-tool (compile.sh) to directly create a Jessie image without systemd and with sysvinit. Something like this (as described here): preseed/late_command="in-target apt-get install -y sysvinit-core" Is it possible and what part …

I am wondering if anyone else has had any success getting Armbian installed on a Banana Pi M5. I'm definitely a noob at this. After thinking the first M5 I tried it on was perhaps defective, but after trying on a second M5 I had the same result, board will not boot and the Green, Blue and Red lights on the board are all solid (not blinking). I'm afraid I may have bricked both boards. I used bpi-copy to flash the on-board emmc and did not receive any errors in the process. I am unable to boot from emmc or sd card at this point. I tried flashing the SD Card with Debian Bullseye and then on another attempt Ubuntu server (both images had worked previously) but to no ava…

I am building a legacy desktop image for Rock64 and there are a few things I am trying to customize at build time. I modified userpatches/customize-image.sh, but I am not getting expected results. Here are some things I am trying to modify: 1. I want to have the desktop come up in solid black color, no image. I made the following changes to userpatches/customize-image.sh: gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-options 'none' gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background primary-color '#000000' But I am still seeing the Armbian image on my desktop. What else do I have to modify? 2. I need to get rid of the…

I just tried to get the dhclient on eth0 to communicate with my ISP (which uses dhcp). On OpenWrt, this works with no problem. However, all I got on the bpi-r2 (eth0) was a 169.x (no answer) address. For the internal network, the dhclient works just fine. I have already tried using eth0 in systemd's network and outside of it (using dhclient). No communication in both cases. ta, t.

Hi, I am trying to get an armhf mainline image for rk3399 and another one for other amlogic socs (s9xx) to test panfrost and lima properly. Many propietary binaries/libs are armhf, also many dynarec are armhf only alongside box86 emulator. Ive tried several attempts with no success to boot. Chroots have been useful for now.. but aren't that friendly, also, multiarch its not that great on arm, mesa 32 and 64 goes in conflict all the time. ive read an old post about this topic. Hi guys! I need to run some game on full screen, and they are old school windows one. the thing is that adding the modeline worked perfectly fine on rpi4, not on armbian sadly. it seems to change the resolution and then it go "out of signal". I used the same parametes than on rpi4. also generated new ones just in case. the thing is I cant make it to work and maybe iut's something deep into armbian. exaple: xrandr --newmode "640x480_60.00" 23.75 640 664 720 800 480 483 487 500 -hsync +vsync xrandr --addmode HDMI-1 640x480_60.00

So, looking to create a CLI version of armbian-install. Only has to work with the rockpi-s and from the SD card to the eMMC. Looking at this script: If it works to clone the SD to eMMC (with some changes?) then I need to tell armbian to boot from the eMMC when the SD card isn't inserted, same way that armbian-install does. Do I simply change the UUID line in /boot/armbianEnv.txt to the UUID of the eMMC, or do I need to edit /etc/fstab or ??

Hello, I was running Armbian on my cubietruck, I believe Bionic Ubuntu. I wanted to upgrade to latest kernel, so I did a - apt-get update - apt-get upgrade - ambian-config and selected the lastest kernel And that was it. When rebooting, I end up with a try to contact a tftp server. The cubietruck has an SDCard and an SSD. Is there an easy fix or do I need to reinstall it completely, please? If I need to reinstall, do I have to backup all data, or is existing data preserved? (Traccar installation) Regards, Tomte

Here is another unsolved problem for me: I can only get my USB Stick to work if i plug it to to the onboard USB. If i use an USB-Hub ( tried different ones) it is not possible. There is no message coming up with tail -f /var/log/messages. If i try to mount: mount: /dev/sdb1 is not a valid block device I need more than two USB devices, so a USB Hub is important for me. I tried active and passive Hubs and off course different USB-Sticks. What can i do to solve this problem?

Hey guys... Having a strange issue since a couple of days. We got a couple of new board (10) and all of them are using an eMMC of 64GB. For an unknown reason, some of them are unable to survive after the first update and reboot using the latest armbian 21.08! Either, it's not booting from SPI OR at some point we see strange thing as segfault when trying some program! We try to replace the eMMC but the same eMMC works perfectly in another rockpro64! I also try to install first the old image with kernel 4.4 and it will survive all the time until we upgrade to 5.10 and then it refuse to boot from SPI! EDIT: Did another…

Hello everyone, I am trying to build a custom image of Armbian for the Radxa CM3, but I'm a little confused with how to proceed. I thought if I cloned the repo I could modify a similar board configuration file (such as rock-3a.conf) by renaming a copy as radxa-cm3.conf and changing BOOT_FDT_FILE to use my own device tree, but this is where I got lost. I'm not sure where to put the device tree in the cloned repo so that it gets used during the build process. I'm also not sure if I would need to change BOOTCONFIG as well, and if so where to find the file to modify. Any and all advice to point me in the right direction is appreciated! Thanks! …

Hi, is there some specific reason why there is a kernel linux-source-5.8.16-sunxi as part of packages repository, but headers for such a version are missing? I saw similar post https://forum.armbian.com/topic/8347-install-linux-headers/ without any solution, but if there is a kernel package why the headers are missing? I assume headers were used during the build process... thanks

Hi forum, I want to try out KVM virtualization since I found out that Odroid HC-1 (=Odroid XU4) does in fact support hardware virtualization and should therefore have a good performance. (Is this true, has someone already done this and can confirm?) In the past I have worked with other virtualization software but this would be my first time to use kvm. Not long ago I started a server projet which works very very well and serves all my needs. The little board is so efficient indeed that I got more than 1GB of unused RAM and also a lot of unused performance. Therefore I wondered whether I could safely use the board to virtualize an enviro…

I was updating packages on a host running on board "Orange PI PC", running Armbian bullseye version 22.02.1. There is only one package left: The following packages have been kept back: armbian-bsp-cli-orangepipc and if I try to run: sudo apt install armbian-bsp-cli-orangepipc I get: The following packages have unmet dependencies: armbian-bsp-cli-orangepipc-current : Depends: base-files (>= 24.5.1) but 11.1+deb11u10 is to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. If I look at my installation of base-files I see that that's is right. How I can fix this ?

Hello all, I hope this finds everyone well. This is my first post and I’m not sure where to put it so, as per forum instructions, I’m dropping this here. After the last update released on July 6th, 2023 that fixed a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issue (thank you), another issue developed. The calendar displays words and letters in a language that I’m not familiar with. It appears to be beautiful looking symbols, but unfortunately, they are meaningless to me. I have attempted to correct this in every way I know but with no luck. The date and time format will change but the language will not. This hasn’t happened with the previous versions. I’m in th…

I just installed Armbian for the first time. I tried the Trixie-current-minimal at first, but that didn't want to start for whatever reason. Should I try installing an Ubuntu one? I'm clueless. [edit] I managed to get Trixie-current-minimal working. Same issue.

Hello, Trying to compile the Qualcomm Gobi serial USB drivers for a Simcom wireless chip on a NanoPi Neo2 (sunxi64). I've loaded the kernel headers via armbian-config and typically this specific header file would be in drivers/usb/serial. We're using the pre-built image. Is there an easy way to get this into our kernel or do we have to embark on a full compile? Any help very much appreciated Rob

I have two HC1s both running Armbian 10. Both of them respond to uname -r with: 4.14.187-odroidxu4 Yesterday, I rebooted one of them, and immediately started seeing errors. These turned out to be attributable to missing modules. The only directory in /lib/modules was 4.14.198-odroidxu4 which does not match the kernel version. The other HC1 still had a directory /lib/modules/4.14.187-odroidxu4. Prior to the reboot both systems were working. How can this happen? My quick solution was to copy the 4.14.187-odroidxu4 directory from the working HC1 to the failed HC1, which solved the problems, at least for the time being. But what is the correct so…

Hey guys, Coming from high level programming such as Java or C#, I'm quite new to mid-level development. I'm working on a project and I was wondering there are any low cost Linux compatible SoC that are guaranteed to have a long term availability for like 5-7 years or more? I've seen the H3, but since it is manufactured by a chinese company, I'm not sure about the availability of this chip on long term. Thanks

Hey. I'm trying to install Home Assistant through "softy" in the armbian-config tool on my nanopi neo plus 2. The process seems like it goes through, but I can't connect to the interface (ip-address:8123). Would someone be able to point me to the script that softy uses for this installation, so I can try to do the steps manually? (I wish to install with Home Assistant with "supervision", and haven't been able to do it with their guides, so now I'm trying throuhg armbian-config). Regards Anders

Hello! This thread here: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/3728-varlog-varloghdd/ triggered the question in me how I could extend the log2ram. My problem is the following: I have installed syncthing. The default in armbian runs it as root - which is not recommended for syncthing, see here: https://forum.syncthing.net/t/running-syncthing-as-root/6316! So I downgraded the syncthing daemon to a standard user account "syncthing". In order to enable a non-root user to write logfiles it's common practice to create a subdir /var/log/syncthing/ and give it write rights for syncthing. This works, however my logfiles stay completely empty! Never…

Hello I flashed EDK2 to SPI and I am able to enter the UEFI menu and change things, but it seems that u-boot takes over the boot process to actually boot the kernel. I also built a custom resolute image using the command below which I flashed to SDCard: Then I added a Grub entry for the SDCard image with this custom build but when I boot it it shows that u-boot is being used not UEFI. The default Grub boot is from emmc with an EFI FAT32, /boot EXT4, and / F2FS which is armbian trixie, and it works well - but with u-boot so I am trying to test how booting via pure UEFI will work so I can migrate to a pure UEFI se…

Hi, I'm trying to use ZFS but the kernel I'd like to use doesn't support loadable modules. The version is 22.08.4 at the moment (5.10.147) Can I use zfs-dkms on linux-image-current-meson64? Hello, Thanks for armbian on Banana PI, it is really wonderful compared to official releases. I installed the image "Armbian_community_26.2.0-trunk.904_Bananapim2ultra_trixie_current_6.18.29_minimal.img.xz" on my Banana PI M2 Berry (there is no image for this type), and all is working wonderfully well ... except rebooting or shutting down the Banana PI. When typing reboot, all services stop but the screen blocks on systemd-shutdown[1]: Rebooting. and it never reboots. It does the same for shutdown, stuck on same kind of message. Could you help me please ? Regards

I have an OrangePi +2E with the latest version of armbian. Yesterday, after a sudo apt-get upgrade, chromium upgraded to 87.0.4280.88 (Build) built on Debian 10.7. After that chromium has become useless: probably the slowest browser ever. In case you ask: I've removed all the extensions and uninstalled the browser and then installed again. nothing changed. The older version worked just "fine" (relative to what an orange pi can offer in terms of performance, of course) Is this the end of internet browsing on armbian?

alright thanks @edupv Oh, and one another problem that bugs me once every one or two week in armbian 5.27, but in 5.40 it's almost everyday, The UASP stopped responding requests, it freeze entire system for several minutes, and every I/O to my hard drive makes the OS unresponsive. I was using ASMedia ASM1153E a years ago, and it show much problem. So I switch to JMicron JMS578, which doesn't error as often like ASMedia 1153E. I already read here (http://linux-sunxi.org/USB/UAS) and found out both ASM1153E and JMS578 is listed as OK right now. below is dmesg output when it started to freeze when I'm copying a file from my PC to…

I have a cubietruck board and successfully moved my Armbian installation from my microSD card to my SSD. I would like to clean up the microSD card now and shrink it to a smaller size, so I can move the content to a smaller card. What do I actually need on that card to be able to boot to SSD? Just the '/boot' folder or does the boot loader need any other data to do its magic?

Hello, this question is not armbian specific but I am dealing with it while using armbian. I have 8GB microsd card but my armbian is using just 1.5GB on it. Now I need to clone/copy this card. I use win32diskimager (on windows) but disadvantage this approach is, that it makes bytedata image file (all 8GB of the whole microsd card even with blank space) but my data have 1.5GB only. Is there any utility/software which makes image with 1.5GB only? I mean when I burn 8GB image size after that to another microsd card, it takes 5x more time to finish as if I could burn just 1.5GB image. I think it must be able to do it somehow, because armbian images has abou…

We have all seen the recent release announcement of Armbian 21.08 which now includes a beta release of Debian 11 (Bullseye). I have a RockPro64 (Rockchip 3399) that is currently running Debian 10 (Buster) that I would like to upgrade, so that it gets the latest packages from Debian and continues to receive security patches. I am tempted to just upgrade it by editing /etc/apt/sources.list and pulling the latest packages (the debian way), but I wondered if there is a safer way to perform the upgrade. Has anyone else upgraded a Debian based Armbain system that way. Are there any issues to watch out for? What customisations are there in Arm…

One of my students told me Armbian no longer accepts donations. Indeed, I see a 'Subscriptions' section, but no longer a Donations link. It's been a while since I looked. When 'subscribing' I guess one could uncheck the automatic renewal, but would that cause trouble for Armbian expecting continuing income? Or should one make the subscription and then cancel? I always encourage my students to support Armbian. I have no clue how many actually have, but feedback is that they would like to make a one-time donation and not a 'subscription.' I dig the subscription idea, but I think Armbian should also have a one time donation link even if it only gets …

As of 25 April, one year after the release of Debian 8, alias "Jessie", and nearly three years after the release of Debian 7, alias "Wheezy", regular security support for Wheezy comes to an end. The Debian Long Term Support (LTS) Team will take over security support. https://www.debian.org/News/2016/20160425 Important: Wheezy-LTS only supports i386 and amd64. The support for armel and armhf is waiting for confirmation from all related Debian Teams. Users of other architectures are encouraged to upgrade to Debian 8 ("Jessie").

Hello Unfortunately my OrangePi PC which I used for couple of years failed and I'm looking to buy the 64-bit SBC from Pine64. Funny thing about my OrangePi PC was that there was one and only one old Armbian image version (Armbian-20.05.4-Orangepipc-focal-5.4.45.img) which ran GUI successfully out of the many other Armbian and OrangePi images I tried which helped me run it as a desktop for using Libre office and others. Unfortunately 1GB RAM was too low for Gaming lol. Thanks to the Armbian community for that. Before buying, I presume the PineA64 LTS version has a 64bit Rambus if not - I don't understand how processing speed will be bett…

Hi, I used to run a full docker environment using the Radxa Debian buster image upgraded to bullseye. Lately as the backport repo has been archived I decided to move onto Armbian as upgrading bullseye to bookworm did not boot (or seemed so...). After flashing the latest Rockpi4 image to the Rockpi4, I copied the docker configuration and files backups. I now have a akward behavior: - starting all the stacks (or containers) works fine, all seems ok - rebooting via sudo reboot provokes an endless reboot cycle which is only ended if I unplug the USB Zigbee coordinator key. Once the loop is stopped, the RockPi does not have any IPv4 address (only IPv…

Hi all, I am using Armbian Bionic on ASUS Tinkerboard S board(s) in an application where the power may fail at any point. I have now, for the second time, seen a running OS starting to fail with the error. ALERT! /dev/mmcblk0p1 does not exists. Dropping to a shell! I have restarted the board several times, but the error continues. If I do a: (initramfs) blkid /dev/mmcblk2p1: UUID=.... /dev/mmcblk2: PTUUID=.. It seems that the OS tries to boot from the wrong device. If I then, booting from another OS using SD card, change the /boot/boot.cmd rootdev: setenv rootdev "/dev/mmcblk2p1" And rerun the mk…

Hi, I just upgraded from 4.3 to 4.4 using apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade. Unfortunately the device is headless and I don't have a monitor. I cannot login over SSH any more, I get asked for password, but after entering the connection timeouts. When I mount the SD-Card on my laptop to find out what's going on I found a ~350MB /var/log/kern.log, repeating only these lines: ... Oct 9 20:38:26 localhost kernel: [ 42.777207] axp20x 0-0034: uevent Oct 9 20:38:26 localhost kernel: [ 42.778709] axp20x 0-0034: uevent Oct 9 20:38:26 localhost kernel: [ 42.779509] axp20x 0-0034: uevent ... This is exactly what I updated: Start-Date: 2015-10-09 …

Hi guys! This is my first post on Armbian forum so just want to say that I appreciate your work on Armbian. It's great! :) Couple days ago I've downloaded latest release of Armbian - Armbian_5.65_Orangepipc_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.78.7z After successful start on OPi PC board I have installed minimal desktop. I've created Wi-Fi network (using network manager) so my OPi PC board can act like a Access Point, and this works fine. Wi-Fi network is visible on other devices and they can connect to it. The problem is that there is no DHCP server working on OPi. This mean that any of devices which connects to the OPi's …

Hello, I would like to set up a small server, mostly for home sftp & torrent needs (maybe a voip server like Mumble). My requirements and questions fall into 3 categories: 1.) Openness & community support 2.) Stability 3.) Future viability 1.) One of my main requirements is for the board to be open / running on as little software blobs as possible. I would like to support manufacturers who seem to care for open source community. The two main manufacturers I see mentioned regularly are Olimex and CubieTech and the A20 as a best supported SoC. I'm currently looking at CubieTruck and OLinuXino-Lime2 but I'm wandering: …
