Is there any simple way that we automatically produce a patch of changes made to the (kernel / uboot) source? Of course also if files are added.

It looks like the GH repo is being renamed from https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib to https://github.com/armbian/build However, the scripts still point to the old location. What are the plans for the GH repo? Is armbian/build the new official location and the scripts will be updated in time? Would a PR be welcome that updates the scripts to the new repo location? Cheers,

Hello guys I have a question regarding H3 overlays. I see that during build "overlay" folder is created in arch/arm/boot/dts and H3 overlays are copied there. Can you point, please, where build framework takes those file from and how to customize this ? The goal here is to add an extra overlay. I see that the structure is very similar to https://github.com/armbian/sunxi-DT-overlays but I can't find in build scripts if you copy files from there or any other repository. Thanks.

  20. Is there a way to increase/change CMA (contiguous memory alocator) reserved memory in kernel configuration for H3 devices? The value stays at default of 16Mb, but after kernel/image creation magically increase to some higher value like 160Mb for OpiOne (512Mb RAM), or 256Mb for OpiPC (1Gb RAM). Even if i try to change the value in kernel configuration, like i used to in A20, with: KERNEL_CONFIGURE="yes" FORCE_CHECKOUT="no" in compile.sh , this have no effect for H3 and the above values of 160Mb/256Mb stays the same. So i guess it's defined somewhere else, patch maybe? Is there a way to change this? I want to see if increasing the CMA value will help to get rid of "out…

  21. Hi, I tried to use the Legacy 3.4.113 but when it loads the kernel the Cubieboard2 shows a weird scrambeled picture on the Monitor and just shuts down. So I decided to build the kernel from source. I'm pretty new to Armbian, and the compile script is a lot of different. I built the kernel using the compile.sh script for Cubieborad2. I installed the Mainline 4.9.7 Armbian on Cubieboard2. My question is how to install the built kernel (3.x) on the existing system, as if I try to install the debs I get that I can't install over existing firmware and u-boot (even with force-install)? Thanks!

  28. Playing with BUILD_MINIMAL I had to several times run compilation script for the same board / system / branch. To speed up verification I thought: what is a point to constantly build u-boot / kernel? So I added CLEAN_LEVEL option to not delete generated debs. I have noted that from one hand I can disable cleaning of (for example) kernel deb files, but from other hand if there is repository update no new deb is produced. And the idea.... or is this already implemented somewhere? Build of u-boot / kernel is initiated when no deb file exists. fetch_from_repo function knows if the repository is updated. What is fetch_f…

  33. Hi, I tested to build some deb package yesterday on my Nanopi M1 and it went surprisingly good and quite fast so I wondered ... I know that the documented way of building armbian is with a x64 computer (with Virtualbox / docker). As I already stated I don't have a big enough x64 computer at hand, would it be feasible to tweak the scripts to build one image (not all) using either my Nanopi M1 (but I guess 512Mo of RAM will be problematic) or a Banana Pi / Raspberry Pi 2 ? I've been doing a little housekeeping with github issues and PR's to eliminate noise or bring closure. I've created a STALE label for issues that lack closure or don't have clear actionable items and closing. Hopefully that makes them easy to revisit later if one is interested. I've also posted some follow-ups on a few to try to get things moving and merged a few PRs while applying extreme discretion. Let me know if I do anything you disagree with or want me to back off. I'm trying to be mindful of everyone's work.

As far as I can tell, many, if not all, targets generate an identical postinst script for the linux-headers package by patching scripts/package/builddeb. A search of the Armbian build repo for "Compiling headers - please wait" produces 33 code results. This means that improving the postinst script (for example, as discussed here) requires updating 33 patch files. I'd be happy to help improve the situation, but I'm unsure how to proceed. Could we have a global postinst script for the linux-headers package, and somehow copy it into place? or must we use a patch file?

I don't know if this is related to Linux kernel 5.0 but I didn't have this problem with 4.20 I used linux-headers-dev-.._arm64.deb kernel header files to compile mali kernel drivers on board I don't know if armbian changed something or it is kernel 5.0 related now I can't as linux-headers-dev debian/postinst script don't generate scripts/mod/modpost and only scripts/basic/fixdep any idea? this is output from make -d -s scripts http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/fbhr37q8GF/

Hey, I'm trying to lock kernel version to 4.11. The documentation is talking about the variable ARMBIAN_MAINLINE_KERNEL_VERSION, which does not do anything, as the script does not take it into account and still clone the last version of kernel (4.13) I cheat and copy KERNELBRANCH='branch:linux-4.11.y' instead in userpatches/lib.config which seems to do the job. What is wrong then ? Documentation or me ? Thanks Florian

  56. hey there, compilation noob here. I want to build my own image via vagrant and set it up already, because Armbian is the only OS* which provides an integrated option for an encrypted rootfs (preferrably on another drive than the sd-card, because of performance) without manually fiddling around. I think the coherency of the chosen organizational method is starting to fall apart. So just a thought experiment on my part: Currently, we have a sources directory, and the sources file has not just sources, but also executable script functions in it. We also do our patches per SoC, mostly, but the organization is by the thing being compiled rather than by the target, making finding/adjusting a bit cumbersome in some cases. I would propose a di…
