Hi folks, I got my helios64, assembled it during the weekend and can’t seem to actually install it. Here are some of the things I tried (I'm on windows 10 btw, I don’t have hdd drives yet, I assume this would not be an issue): · 2 sd cards (one of which is a Samsung as recommended in the wiki), two computers (with correct com ports as visible in the device manager, driver is installed), tried both on usb2 and usb3 · USB cable has been trimmed to fit the case properly - also tried with the back panel off and directly connected to the board · the devices starts up as soon as I plug in the power cord - I then use…

  4. So I got my Helios64 today, built it with 2 drives, a Adata SSD on the M.2 and 2 Seagates on SATA 1 and 2. But whenever I want to boot it up, the internal blue system LED lights up + System Rail power (UPS installed) with all activity LEDs and HDD error 3 instantly with no delay. There is no Console output and nothing is to be heard spinning up. When building I noticed the cable harness having the same length for connectors 2 and 3 where 3 is too short for zip tie-ing. Help is greatly appreciated.

Continuing the discussion from here On a clean install of 20.08.21 im able to crash the box within a few hours of it being under load. It appears as if the optimisations are being applied root@helios64:~# cat /proc/sys/net/core/rps_sock_flow_entries 32768 The suggestion @ShadowDance made to switch to the performance governor hasn't helped. Anecdotally, I think I remember the crashes always mentioning page faults, and early on there was some discussion about memory timing. Is it possible this continues to be that issue?

  7. I just received my Helios64 system and built it today. The build included 3 drives, a SSD in port 1 and two HHD's on port 2 and 3. After the build, I installed Debian Kernel: 5.8 on an micro SD card. The system booted but only showed the drives in port 2 and 3. I have moved the drive in port 1 to port 4, rebooted and the SSD drive shows up. Also, a HDD in port 1 does not show up: no blue Light on the front panel and not visible in "fdisk -l" . 9. Hi, I noticed that on my board I didn't have notification with MOTD when updates were available and I think that I've found the culprit: In the file /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-apt-updates of the package linux-buster-root-legacy-nanopim4_20.08.17_arm64.deb, this line stop the script to go further : # give up if packages are broken [[ ! $(dpkg -l | grep ^..r) ]] && exit 0 If I remove the ! then it works (because the script, in fact, gives up if packages are not broken )

Hello, Since few days, my PSU makes a high-pitched noise. As my NAS is installed in my living-room, it is annoying. I have changed my PSU three weeks ago, it was good during these three weeks, but it comes suddenly noisy... Does anyone else has the same issue ? And any ideas on how to fix this ? Thanks

  11. I once had openmediavault (nas software) and citadel-server (groupware software) running together on an x86 computer with Debian operating system. When I try this on Helios64 running armbian (Debian 10 Buster) and kernel 5.8, then the package manager does not allow it. That means, when I start with an installed openmediavault and want then to install citadel-server as well the package manager removes openmediavault first. Does anybody have an idea or a solution to the problem?

  12. I just received my Helios64, I immediately checked it for the Magjack center point to ground concern, and mine tests that it is connected. Is there a revision number on the board which can be used to identify the clean point between the pre and post fix boards?

  13. Hi everybody! I have been working for days to ensure that the MIPI-DSI output works with the Raspberry PI compatible display panel (Product OSOYOO which has a Toshiba TC358762 DSI/DP bridge chip and a I2C backlight controller as Focal FT5406). The following overlay works perfectly with the Radxa kernel 4.4.153 and unfortunately not with the Armbian kernel: Linux rockpi-4c 5.8.13-rockchip64. So far so good. Now if you look at the DTS source files of the two kernels, they have a similar structure but are very different in content. I wonder why you now get the idea to reinvent the wheel. The Radxa kernel contains everything that is needed. What is particularly ann…

Hi. I've just bought a Rock Pi 4a board, I plan to use it as home server, running stuff like Owncloud, Postfix/Dovecot, Apache, pihole, OpenHab, Emby server etc. I'm thinking of running Armbian on it, but I have absolutely no experience of this dist (I've been managing Debian/Ubuntu servers for many years though). It's going to run headless. I'm wondering what would be the best way to set up disks from an Armbian point of view. My main reason for buying Rock Pi is for the M.2 port, I'm going to put my data on a M.2 disk. Booting from M.2 seems to be tricky though so I'm thinking about booting from micro SD card. I don't want to put any important data or a…

Hi All! I've recently moved to Armbian (Debian buster server) on my Rock Pi 4B - from Ubuntu provided by Radxa (some way failed upgrade). However system is booting from eMMC which has Radxa kernel and then directly to Armbian file system on SSD connected via USB 3.0. Great is that Armbian is working with Radxa kernel, which I want to change to 5.8.14-rockchip64. My question is how should I prepare /boot folder on eMMC (which is FAT file system) to boot Armbian kernel? Is there any other way (reformat eMMC for ext4@32768 sector for /boot folder) to achieve this? Thanks.

The bigger change that happened was kernel upgrade. I exclude problems like: PSU (it is over enough), home network (nothing has changed) and SSD speed (checked - 330 MB/s). There are several questions on the topic: Between the moment of transfer of control to the kernel from the u-boot and the moment of start of the kernel operation it takes 1.5 -2 minutes. I assume that during this period of time there is decompression of the code and placement in memory. But why so long? The 4.4.x kernel starts instantly. When I first turned on a nanopc-t4 with a 5.x.x (4.20) kernel, I already thought the kernel was corrupted. And quite accidentally waited for the green LED to blink. Why is there still no sound in fdt for nanopc-t4? I corrected fdt, but I can 't put it in kernel.org. It is possible that my patch goes against the established str…

  50. Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to switch from the current branch to the legacy one as I've read that the board will be much more stable with the older kernel ? I've installed my NanopiM4 last march, and I've experienced some random freezes of my board after some time (can take weeks). It seems that one of my solutions would be to use the legacy kernel as it is much more stable - information I got by reading the forums (something I haven't done before because I'm stupid and was in a hurry...). Is it possible to downgrade only the kernel at all ? Here are the packages that (I think) I have to replace : linux-bu…

Is it even possible? If so, what config options need to be set to get the correct kernel version matching the available rt patches? Thanks!

First time user here. I got a Rock64 board and flashed Armbian_20.08.1_Rock64_focal_current_5.8.6_desktop.img using Etcher to an SD card. When I try to boot, nothing happens. If I examine the SD card on my Linux PC, there is only one partition on it and it appears to be a kernel image. I assumed that the .img file would have the U-Boot partition as well. Is there a different type of image file I should be using that would contain everything that I need to boot? If not, how do I create such an image?

What information I've gathered so far: There are two "vops" a big and little, and the little one is not designed to, and cannot output 4k (there was a patch hacking that into vopl but I never dared test it and can't find it now). There was this change setting the maximum resolution to 4k in a file/subdirectory I cannot find in recent kernels anymore: https://patchwork.ozlabs.org…

  92. Hallo, I've been using Armbian on the NanoPi M4 V2 for a while and now I'm thinking about switchen from the legacy kernel to the current kernel. Unfortunately that's not so easy to do when using armbian-config. You could think you can just select the current-kernel in the list but you won't find it there. The reason is simple: the legacy kernel belongs to the rk3399-family and the current kernel is rockchip64. Which is basically the same, but from an organisational point of view it is not (please forgive me if I do not show an adequate technical precision here, the details and the plan to clean that up are explained here). What I would be intereste…

  93. Hi all, I'd just like to share a problem I experienced and what solved after a bit of Googling. Basically, I have Nextcloud installed on my Nanopi M4 (v1) with Armbian: $ uname -a Linux nanopim4 4.4.192-rk3399 When I sync files from my Android phone via local wifi, often the transfers were just failed. Not always but usually, it's when a directory contains lot of large files. After a bit of Googling and came across this: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/494290/nanopi-m4-rk3399-apache2-ssl-large-download-hangs/495378#495378 It works. The problem's solved after: ethtool -K eth0 rx off tx off and put the com…

  94. Hi, I was struggling in the Wifi connectivity with following syndromes: 1. Having trouble connecting to 5GHz network by default unless specifying BSSID 2. Will disconnect after a day or so 3. Cannot parse RX packet header properly (and will spamming errors in dmesg) After putting in some efforts, I've found a newer firmware version on GitHub: New Firmware: BCM4356/2 wl0: Apr 18 2017 13:54:43 version 7.35.184.1.r5 (A2 Station/P2P) FWID 01-efd4ca0d Original Firmware: BCM4356/2 wl0: May 14 2014 19:51:52 version 7.35.17 (r477908) FWID 01-2ed3ee81 The NVRAM text file is identical to `brcmfmac4356-sdio-nanopi-m4v2.txt…

  95. Started by rvalle,

Has anybody successfully used the USB type-c displayport of the nanopc-t4? How do you configure it? It works on the images provided by friendlyelec, so, I guess it is just a config/install issue ?

  96. Started by pkfox,

One of my boards gave up today - I was just connecting the SATA power cable to the hat and no leds came on - no sound or smoke just nothing - I tried several times to re power it and all I saw on a couple of occasions was a very faint flicker of the leds -so I guess it's dead.

  98. Hi, the latest Bionic Legacy Desktop images for NanoPi M4 V2 (Armbian_20.05.2_Nanopim4v2_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop.img.xz and Armbian_20.05.1_Nanopim4v2_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop.img.xz) do not boot on the board. No green LED. No video output at all. I haven't checked UART. The latest working image is Armbian_20.02.7_Nanopim4v2_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop.7z I have a good power supply (12V 2A, also tried with USB 5V 3A), and a good MicroSD card (high endurance). I did not forget to unXZ the new image file and write it with dd, just as 20.02.7 7z. I've checked the checksum of written data on the MicroSD card, and it equals to the checksu…

  99. Hey folks, So here's the setup I have: I have an Orange Pi 4B running the Orange Pi 4 image and kernel 5.6.17-rockchip64. I have an Orange Pi 4 running the Orange Pi RK3399 image and kernel 5.4.26-rockchip64 (cause when I got it, the Orange Pi 4 images weren't out yet). The OPi4 is running just fine. I imagine that I'm running the wrong DTB and that not all the hardware is working properly -- but the hardware I need is working just fine. The OPi4B is another story. It'll boot just fine, and it'll run just fine for days/weeks on end -- as long as I don't put it under any sort of heavy CPU load. But if I start running anythi…

  100. Hey! I recently accidentally made my eMMC unbootable. I ordered this adapter, but the eMMC isn't getting picked up by any of my microSD adapters. Is there a way to hotplug the eMMC chip while booting from SD, like with the Pinebook Pro (which is also RK3399 based)? I'd really like to either repair or clear the eMMC so i could continue using it. Thanks!
