  1. Hi, Is it possible to boot from SSD? How it should be partitioned? Can I use any arbitrary partition for rootfs? Should I follow the procedure from this thread ? It assumes I should write the armbian image to a whole drive instead of partition, right? Well, I actually tried some way... First, I've tried to just run some utility from ambian-config that transfers rootfs to a partition. Device did not boot after this (with SD card ejected). Then I've flashed the ayufan's u-boot-flash-spi-rock64.img.xz. This also fails (boot log is attached) but the log looks promising. BTW, I'm experimenting with Ubuntu 18.04 image built by myself …

I am so frustrated with my rock64 (SoC RK3328), there is no support. Pine 64 takes the money and dumps all the issues on a community. The product is a lemon. Can’t watch YouTube, there is no audio I am very disappointed in Pine64, I will try and return this device.

Greetings, I can't seem to find any documentation on how to access the only PWM port on the Nano M4 which happens to reside on the 2nd set of pins. It's listed as GPIO2 and the PWM pin is pin 23 which they label as GPIO_C6/PWM1(3V). SInce any documentation I find on GPIO has to do with the 40 pin port, how can I program the PWM using wiringPI-Python? I wonder why Nano chose to disregard the other PWM pins that other Raspberry Pi type boards retained like the Asus Tinkerboard. Or am I missing something? If so, can someone enlighten me as to how to access PWM on the Nano M4. Preferably using Python 3.

  5. I made a custom Plex Media Player build that leverages the decent performance we get with the fbdev/dri driver. I tested Rockchip MPP gstreamer plugin. The Rockchip Hardware VPU is very basic, it breaks with mkv playback, so I decided to use ffmpeg software decoding since it's extremely robust. Also 1080p playback through DRI isn't too shabby!. If you want 4k video then you need to contact Rockchip. They seem to be overwhelmed or not interested in bringing 4k support to Linux. I built a .deb package that will install plexmediaplayer to /usr/local. No worries about installing to somewhere and clobbering an official library or package. Official Armbian depen…

I used pyserial in python to use UART but no change has been detected the pin #19 by the oscilloscope. Do I have to enable the UART somehow? If I can use UART with NanoPi M4, I would say this machine is so fantastic.

I have tried many other speeds (1500000, 230400, 57600, 38400, 19200, 9600) and none of these seem to work. What am I doing wrong? Or is the state of the box right now that u-boot sends garbage …

  50. Gentlemen, I have a rock64 board, and I would like to use an external RTC module with DS1307 chip. Unfortunately the armbian kernel does not provide DS1307 driver by default: root@rock64:~# cat /boot/config-4.4.162-rockchip64 | grep DS1307 # CONFIG_RTC_DRV_DS1307 is not set I don't have the programming skills for sending a pull request to enable this module. Can someone please help me understand how Armbian for Rock64 is developed? In the past, there was an image for the Rock64 that was a server image, not a desktop image. Now, I see Ubuntu and a Debian Stretch desktop images, no server image. Is there a plan to build a server image going forward? Also, will a newer kernel be built at some point? Hello all! I have a NanoPC-T4 and I'm currently using Android 8.1. I suppose I could flash Ubuntu to try this, but before that, here goes. I'm trying to use a USB 4G dongle with it. I get no recognition of the device. No RNDIS or any notification at all. Fresh install. Any ideas? Also, has anyone tried to come up with a method of root for android on this device? It's a super cool sbc! Thanks!

I have set up this device from which I'm writing this, installed Armbian from SD card, by sweeping out original FriendlyElec images from the FriendlyElec's partition, so I wiped off the Android and Ubuntu, and copied on it the Armbian image, which appeared with the title "RAW". Hello everybody, bought a Rock64 4 GB recently and I´m not able to boot it with any provided armbian Debian/Ubuntu image. With the Ubuntu Image ethernet doesnt seem to be initialized and with Debian there is activity on the eth port, but no connection, neither of the images show any output on the screen. Also i tried various SD-Cards and different image burning programs. Openmediavault works flawlessly, so I can exclude Hardware issues.

  65. I'm considering buying a Rock64 4GB to use a Docker server running media apps (plex, sonarr, radarr, jackett, smb, etc). I already have a 64GB SD card available for this system, probably overkill, but I have it. I noticed another post saying the SD card performance is not what it could be. I'd like to hear from other have a similar setup to what I'm thinking about. Does it perform well enough for what you're using it for? What are you using it for? What kind of samba through put do you get on the USB2 and USB3 (perhaps with the USB3->SATA adapter) Thanks.

  68. /proc/sys/crypto doesn't exist, so anything checking the status of /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled fails terribly. (Specifically trying to bring up a FreeIPA server which includes tomcat-based Dogtag CA, it checks for FIPS during setup, dies). I see there is an rk_crypto kernel module available, so I don't know why /proc/sys/crypto itself is missing. I tried 'modprobe rk_crypto' and it loaded (appears in output of 'lsmod'), but /proc/sys/crypto still doesn't exist.

I have a few Rock64's that I'm building as various services (Nextcloud, Pi-Hole, VPN, OMV, and/or Netatalk Backup). None of these devices will need large boot volumes as the data will be in secondary (Hard or SSD) Drives or will require VERY little data storage. On the RPi's that the Rock64's are replacing, I've been using USB Flash drives for booting. I get the feeling that an eMMC module is a better choice, but do have any real knowledge. Are the eMMC modules more reliable and less prone to corruption that USB Flash Drives? I do have some 32GB and 64…

I've been using Debian/Raspbian/Armbian for about 10 years and I've really come to rely on Synaptic for searching and being able to make download scripts. Not every day but about once a week especially if I'm setting up something (like this Rock64). This Synaptic's access to the package database seems incredibly slow. A single search may take 20 minutes. After installing something it reloads the list and shows it on the screen, that can be another 20 minutes. During this time it's got 1 thread using 100% of one CPU. Typing is sometimes impaired, window repainting usually. …
