Hi, I was testing images for Orange Pi 4 w/o eMMC, official from site, Debian and Ubuntu from ARMbian, and suddenly any boots anymore. I tried desperately everything, write with another program, used dd for copy, pressed randomly bottoms attached in the back, then one time worked, but it crashed when i attached a keyboard. Later all my micro-sd cards worked, most of them are poor quality, could be that but idk, my power adapter came from official website. # ls usb doesn't show hid I have a cp2012 usb to tll, i can use it for serial debug ?

As topics title, did anyone manage to get the Raspberry Pi Touch Screen (DSI) work with the Rock Pi 4B running Armbian? Should it be working out of the box like with the TinkerBoard? Note that in my setup the display works with the Radxa Debian 9 image. Thanks guys

Hey guys, bunch of thanks for your great work. Was wondering what's up with the latest buster images (20.05.2-5.4.43) for the 1Gig A versions. Worked great up to 20.02.11-5.4.32. This overlays settings worked well until I have compiled my own .dtbo file and call it with overlay=..xyz... , after that all yet working overlays stopped working, even if I removed them. The boot process now skips this overlay settings. After examination, I have found file "/boot/boot.scr" and "/boot/dtb-5.4.44-rockchip64/rockchip/overlay/rockchip-fixup.scr" had some garbage characters at beginning. I didn't change anything, neither I did open them before, those files simply got garbage. After deleting the garbage chars, it won't boot anymore. Before I had tried also spi-spidev and spi-nor

I'm working on a project using the nanopim4v2-current image. I noticed an issue with the available HDMI output resolutions. Only a select few resolutions are available, despite the connected screen advertising support for additional ones. I was also unable to output a custom resolution (for example 1920x538) by adding the proper modeline in manually through xrandr. I've been looking into this for a bit and managed to find a partial solution in Miouyouyou's recent pull request "[RFC] RK3288 : Add HDMI resolutions". Adding the patches to my build enabled support for my monitor's native resolution (1920x1200) and allowed me the ability to output custom resol…

EDIT: I hate to have to admit this, but I completely forgot that the nanopi m4 v2 needs external antennas for its wifi to operate properly. (I bought just before the coronavirus hit, and it was several weeks before I got back to setting up the board. First board I've had that needs that.) Having terrible troubles getting a working wifi on various Armbian OSes on nanopi-m4v2. Hi, I don't have an idea why it stucks. Armbian_20.05.0-trunk_Rockpi-4b_buster_current_5.4.43 EDIT: I have downloaded the pre-build image Armbian_20.05.1_Rockpi-4b_buster_current_5.4.43 and it works. Hi everyone, I have been playing a lot (too much maybe) with my NanoPi M4. It seems that most of what I need will be working "soon" (yay for hardware decoding), except HDMI audio bitstream passthrough. Hi - trust this is the right forum. I have forgotten the login password to my Arbian installation on the nanopi m4 V2. It boots from the eMMC just fine, but I am stuck at the prompt. I had only just installed it a few weeks ago (then things got hectic), so nothing really invested - I could just install again via the SD card, right? Unfortunately, it looks like the SD slot is no longer working. In the last 2-3 days nothing seems to boot from it. Which leaves me with an eMMC module loaded up with an Armbian - I think its bionic, because it does have wifi (buster never worked with wifi). In other 'vanilla' flavours of of l…

Hi all, first off, I love my NanoPiM4V2 boards, the big drawback with them for me is backing them up, if you are running them from an eMMC and you have the board in a case, you have to remove the cover of the case, if you have a hat ( which I do ) you also have to remove that , then you can remove the eMMC module and clone or do whatever with it. What would be good for me, is, if I could temporarily boot from an sdcard , unmount the eMMC, and clone it for backup purposes. Before I ruin anything I thought I'd ask the experts. Is this doable ?

Hello all, After some time without touching it, I came back to my Rockpi 4B. I installed the latest armbian bionic image on a samsung 64Go card. All seems to work fine for the first boot. But when I try to restart the system I don't get any display on screen. To get it back I need to unplug HDMI plug and re-plug it. Didn't found any conversation about that trouble? Is it a bug or is there something I can do to fix it ? Thanks for your answers. Pat

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, I'm not an expert with this. I have the M4V2 with metal case. I downloaded Armbian_20.02.7_Nanopim4v2_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop.7z and burned the IMG to one of my spare M4 eMMc Problem is that the eMMC does not boot and does nothing So I tried another M4 eMMC and exactly the same thing. So I burned the img to an SD card and it boots fine. But I cannot see the eMMC AT ALL, lsblk does not show it Is it possible the M4 eMMC is NOT compatible ( I dont' think so or I would have seen in my searches) OR I did something wrong ? Or missed a step I don't remember having this with my M4 ? Thanks in …

Hey, I am using a Nanopi M4v2 with a Satahat as server for openmediavault and plex. Since I got a lot of freezes/crashes (every 24-72h, the Nanopi lost the connection, and the green LED isn't blinking anymore) with "Armbian 20.02.7 buster current 5.4.28" on a SD-Card. I plugged a SSD in and used the nand-install script with a clean installed SD-Card. But this doesn't help, the problem is still there. Hi, I want to do a NAS RAID(4,1) with the M4 with SATA hat. This thing is f... damned fast with SAMBA. I meassured 60MB/s with a 1.5TB 2.5" drive I had just laying around. OK, I forgot to mention that I installed Armbian. It's been three years since my last attempt to build a useful PC with AARCH64 and many things happened meanwhile. Looks like the time has come finally. (To say good bye to x86 and Windows.) Can someone point me to a direction before I gonna buy four SSDs?

Hi, I have one silly problem developing a FBTFT device driver for SSD1322 display : https://github.com/MarkoBursic/fbtft---SSD1322/blob/master/fb_ssd1322.c The initialisation starts OK, all GPIOs (DC, RESET, CS) follows as they should, since the data is sent through a function write_reg. For example : write_reg(par, 0xA0, 0x14, 0x11); It asserts DC low, then sends 0xA0, then asserts DC high and sends 0x14 and 0x11. Within every sent character (8bit bata) the CS toggles. The problem becomes when I want to send video data, I guess a function write_vmem is called. But here the entire tx buffer is filled and then streamed. for (y =…

I want to use the mainline u-boot spl to load the u-boot proper(u-boot.itb) from nvme, so that the only part off the nvme is the tpl/spl in the emmc/sd/spi flash. But now the mainline u-boot has no pcie driver and no nvme support in spl. I have found the radxa guys using their u-boot in spi flash to boot kernel from nvme. But their pcie driver(https://github.com/radxa/u-boot/commit/096f2c16bbfa24c93a4c87e31334d5b5064dfd0a) has a limitation: It can not be used in u-boot spl, or it would not function properly in u-boot proper and fail the boot. After some frustrating tryings and compare with the linux driver, I found that the port initialization proce…

Hi! Unless mistaken, I believe audio is missing from 3.5mm jack on the RockPi4b. To enable it, I had: - To update the dts by adding definitions close to the RockPro64 (some available starting in mainline 5.6) - Change them to use I2S0 instead of I2S1 - Enable audio-graph-card in kernel config (I also removed some audio modules which issued warnings/errors during boot) - Patch es8316.c to prevent a kernel panic during boot (found in Ayufan's latest mainline kernel for RockPro64) yannick@rockpi-4b:~$ aplay -l **** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices **** card 0: rockchiprk3399 [rockchip,rk3399], device 0: ff880000.i2s-ES8316 HiFi ES8…

Hi. Every few days I've been noticing that my monitor just goes blank. The machine keeps running but nothing I do will restore the display. Even if I try to visit another virtual terminal, nothing, still blank. I can ssh to the machine but no command will allow me to restore the display. The only way I get the display back is to reboot the machine. This can't be normal. I'd love it for someone to help get to the heart of this problem. Thank you.

Recently, like a week or two, after what i believe was a kernel update i started getting random freezes in the board. Good morning gentlemen, I have just discovered that one of the cores on my RockPi4B is faulty and often causes segfaults and crashes, I can disable the suspect core by issuing the following command $ sudo echo 0 | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu2/online However, this is fine if the machine has booted, but i want to disable the faulty core as early on in the boot process as possible. Is it possible to disable the core in the uboot environment, or could someone offer me some advice as to the best time to disable the core? Thanks, Leon.

Greetings, Here's a quick and very dirty way to use the NVMe disk for the whole system, except the boot files and kernels which will be read from the SDCard. This method is UNSUPPORTED. Meaning that if you follow this procedure and your system broke, catched fire and start attacking you in your sleep, it's on you ! The reason I keep booting on the SDCard are : This makes boot issues easier to deal with since all the files are more easily accessible. It's easy to quickly read a SDCard from a PC using a SDCard reader USB dongle bought from the local store. Meanwhile mounting a NVMe<->USB readers are no…

Since it is in a shared place, to better protect my and my user's privacy i enabled Full Disk Encryption (CRYPTROOT_ENABLE). Now, back to the question: is usb otg enabled by default? Can someone with physical access use an otg cable to read files from the rock64? I would try it by myself but i don't have physical access to the board. OS: Armbian 19.11.4 Bionic (5.4.28-rockchip64) Thanks

Hi Folks, I have a NanoPiM4 and loaded Ambian 5.75 onto an SD card, it boots great (Thanks Armbian!). How I've added the FriendlyElec 2.8 TFT module (240x320) and want to configure it. So I used the handy `armbian-config` to pick up the kernel headers and sources, and went to go an add fbtft and select the ST7789V driver. Only when I went to run `make menuconfig` I got: root@nanopim4:/usr/src/linux-source-4.4.174-rk3399# make menuconfig scripts/kconfig/mconf Kconfig net/Kconfig:83: can't open file "net/wireguard/Kconfig" scripts/kconfig/Makefile:28: recipe for target 'menuconfig' failed I've updated the armbian monitor stuf…

I'm about to install active cooling fan on my recently delivered nanoPI T4. However, I cannot get what is a type of the soldered 3-pin fan connector on this board? What I see there is visually too small as for standard connector size. Is it something special I have no clue about yet, or it is for future proprietary Friendlyarm's fan designed specially for the board? Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks

I have a Rock Pi4 B (rk3399) and I do not find the solution to use my native screen resolution with the latest kernel: 1600x1200. It was working fine with Armbian Bionic Legacy kernel 4.4. However, despite my tinkering, I do not find how to make it work with the latest kernel (option is not available in the Display Setting, xrandr manipulation did not give any success). Any pointer towards a solution would be greatly appreciated. Below the output of xrandr for the two images I ran. Flashed Armbian Buster to eMMc and now want to flash to Armbian Bionic. I know there's instructions using a usbC in the friendlyarm wiki but this just isn't working out... I used the Windows method / tool to erase the eMMC as it says which seemed to work but it still boots from the eMMC :/ Are there any better instructions any where?

WIthout SD card, it boots normally, but if SD card is inserted, it won’t boot. On serial port, it is visible that there’s a crash right after the message that says something like “booting from eMMC”. The message includes the values of the registers IIRC. Then, something like “resetting CPU”, and it starts over: tries to boot from eMMC, crashes, etc. Sorry, I didn’t record the exact message, but there’s a chance I’ll re-flash the board in the next couple weeks and then I can provide the exact messages. I’ve tested it with Bionic minimal with 5.4 kernel and buster server with 5.4 kernel. If I insert the SD card later, it’s fine. Also, the official ubuntu bionic …

Hello everyone! I have an issue with rebooting my orangepi 4 (version without eMMC, booted from SD card). May be you can help with some kind of patch or workaround, or may it be a note for armbian devs. System: Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster) Image: Armbian_20.05.0-trunk_Orangepi4_buster Affected kernel versions: dev-5.5.2; dev-5.5.5, current-5.4.21, legacy-4.4.213 I have built different armbian images from trunk (legacy, current, dev), and it looks like everything works absolutely fine, except the reboot. When I type 'reboot' the last thing I see in the serial log is something like this: [ OK ] Stopped target Local File Syste…

I have noticed that the NanoPi M4V2 has an OPP table which causes the device to overclock; the table is suitable for an RK3399K SoC, but the M4V2 has a standard RK3399 SoC with maximum speeds of 1.42GHz for the A53 cores and 1.80GHz for the A72 cores (despite FriendlyArm themselves citing the K speeds in marketing material, which is incorrect). I believe that this may also be causing stability issues with my unit, however I will be performing additional testing (I cannot find where it is getting the "extended" OPP tables from, so I am limiting it via cpufreq-set and testing for stability.) Does anyone have any insight or ideas?

Hi All, thanks for this great project, much appreciated! Could someone give me an educated guess whether there is a risk of damaging my board when the blue LED is flashing much faster (at least twice, probably more) than usual? I suspect something is changing the frequency or voltage and I'm not sure how much time I can take in this state to try to analyze the problem further. For now I unplug the power when it happens. I'm trying to netboot my Rock Pi 4B v1.4 with the current or dev branches of buster minimal nfsboot, with no local storage at all (just the SPI flash for u-boot). The legacy 4.4 hangs at very early boot (couldn't get clock / Failed to g…

The following image boots fine from microSD card on my RockPI4a (2GByte): https://dl.radxa.com/rockpi/images/third-party/Armbian_5.67_Rockpi4b_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.154_desktop_20181210-gpt.img.gz Unfortunately, that images' kernel does not seem to include an AHCI driver, so it does not find the 5 SATA port miniPCIe controller. i am using. That controller is working (mostly) fine with the Radxa provided 4.4.100 debian kernel though. So, i tried to install the following current images: https://dl.armbian.com/rockpi-4a/Buster_current https://dl.armbian.com/rockpi-4a/archive/Armbian_19.11.5_Rockpi-4a_buster_current_5.…

Hello, I'm trying to use a NanoPi M4 with an old TV. When the system boots, the TV displays "Invalid resolution." However, it works with a different TV, which unfortunately I cannot use full time. I note that on the working TV, there's a line in dmesg stating "Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 240x67" which would imply that this can be configured somewhere?? However I tried searching, the only docs I get are outdated, for other hardware, or don't work. I tried adding 'disp.screen0_output_mode=1280x720p60' to /boot/armbianEnv.txt, but it had no effect. A pointer as to where these settings are actually controlled would be very helpful. Thanks

Hi all, I have found a weird condition. I have a home built image running off sd card with no probs. my EMMC has friendly distro on it. I ran nand-sata-install to install armbian to EMMC. then I ran growpart and resize2fs against the EMMC and rebooted. afterwards, host failed to boot from emmc. so I thought "no probs, boot of sd". Hello, I have read some threats with the same issue, armbian images are not booting, there is not HDMI signal when turn on rockpi4. Hello, can someone help me with my problem. I have a ROCK64 with 4GB of RAM and an ARMBIAN 5.75 stable Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS 4.4.174-rockchip64, installed. My issue come with usb ports, from the three USB of the this device only works two: one 2.0 and 3.0. And when i have a disk connected towards usb 3.0 i have issues with port usb 2.0, it doesn't work well and I end up disconnecting the USB 3.0 to can work with my device connected towards USB 2.0 so I assume that the current power on the USB port is having issues or it's not working well. Anybody an idea? thanks!

Hi guys. I've received the NanoPi M4 V2 today. I tried Armbian images for the M4 on SD and eMMC. None boot. So I tried the RockPi4 images since that's got lpddr4 too. That works. Of course no on-board wifi since another chip. So my guess is the lpddr4 isn't supported by the uboot for the M4. It is a nice board. I've got the metal case with NVMe hat too. Looks all very nice. But a bit impractical if you need to acces eMMC. Cheers

I have a suggestion for the moderators: Please move the Rockchip 3399 subforum from development to Bug Tracker if its ok! Most of the boards listed there: Nanopi Neo4, M4, NanoPC T4, Rock64PRO, Rock Pi4 are now marked as supported on the Armbian download page. I read a comment from @Igor sometime ago (not able to locate right now) that the only thing holding back the sub forum transfer was a lack of moderator action. Thanks.

Hi, in Germany electrical Power ist getting more and more expensive (reaching 30ct per kWh). So I am trying to work out a Desktop Usercase Scenario (Mail, Office, Browsing, Video Streaming, Audio Streaming) on a SBC System. My experience is growing in Using a Manjaro XFCE on the Pi 4B (4GB), Booting from SSD. It works very well, nearly like the former used Deskmini A300 with Athlon 200GE. And I also tried out the Jetson Nano, Ubuntu 18.04. On both Systems you can get a satifsfying Desktop Experience, but the Jetson with ist Cortex A57 Core Base is a bit slower, also while it is used from an micro SD SanDisk A1 Card. Hi. I'm using an OrangePi RK3399 and if the power supply from the 12V barrel jack is removed, the LTE module connected to the mPCIE port dies. Does anybody know how to make the mPCIE port work while on battery? The mPCIE dying is due to the port being powered from the main power supply line VBUS from the barrel jack (before the BQ25700a battery charger IC, according to the board's schematics). I don't know why power is not supplied from VSYS like everything else on the board. So, what I've found is that if I want to power the mPCIE port from the battery, the reverse OTG mode from the BQ25700a battery charger IC would need to be set (allowing voltage to flow from the bat…

I am still trying unsuccessfully to get the sound through the rt5651 codec using the main line kernel (I use NanoPC-T4). I corrected the dts/dtb file and assembled the kernel module. The kernel performs i2s bus and codec switching. The corresponding audio device appears on the system. I start a alsamixer. I can change settings. When I change some settings, I can even hear clicks in the dynamic. So the codec chip is powered up. And the codec chip is controlled through the i2c bus. I can switch the audio output through the codec. But there is no sound. I can 't figure out what the reason is. The dts/dtb files for main line kernel and rockchip 4.4.xxx kernel are slightly dif…

Hey folks, I ordered an Orange Pi 4 a couple weeks ago, and it showed up on Wednesday. Last night I started tinkering around with to see if I could get Armbian up and running on it. First thing I did was to hook up my USB-to-TTL debugger to it (no SD card inserted). But when I powered it on, all I'm getting over the serial connection is garbage. With my other OPi's, I'm used to getting U-Boot messages -- but this was far from that: The garbage settles down after about 30 seconds. When I have it hooked up to my Windows machine, I get a new device called "rk3399-mid" that appears in device manager. I tried grabbing the i…

Hello All, I recently bought Orange Pi RK3399 and had some problems with it. At this moment I've solved most of them, but still no luck with such an old OS like Ubuntu Server 16.04 or Debian 9 which were provided by the manufacturer (images to flash). What I am thinking now is to move this board to Armbian. Will it work? How should I in this case organize the partitions on eMMC and where to load kernel and rootfs? I don't see this board in supported ones.

I tried building the mainline kernel (ayufan) for NanoPC T4. My aim is to bring up bluetooth. No quite familiar with device tree, just googling and reading the kernel doc, and now I had some luck. According to this post (https://discuss.96boards.org/t/updated-preliminary-support-for-bluetooth-in-debian-rock960/5588/7) in 96boards forum, in recent kernel, there is a serial bus support for bcm blutooth. ---- firmware. I used firmware from the repo mentioned in the post: https://github.com/openwetek/wlan-firmware-aml/blob/master/bcm_ampak/config/4356/bcm4356a2.hcd according to hci_bcm.c code, this file should be renamed to BCM4…

Hi guys, I have recently bought a Rock64 to improve the performance of my VPN gateway. First tests look very promising as you can see here: root@rock64:~# openssl speed -evp aes-128-cbc -elapsed You have chosen to measure elapsed time instead of user CPU time. Doing aes-128-cbc for 3s on 16 size blocks: 15394610 aes-128-cbc's in 2.99s Doing aes-128-cbc for 3s on 64 size blocks: 12591175 aes-128-cbc's in 3.00s Doing aes-128-cbc for 3s on 256 size blocks: 6719021 aes-128-cbc's in 3.00s Doing aes-128-cbc for 3s on 1024 size blocks: 2448108 aes-128-cbc's in 3.00s Doing aes-128-cbc for 3s on 8192 size blocks: 352617 aes-128-cbc's in 3.00s Doing aes-128-c…

Hi, I am using Armbian_19.11.3_Rockpi-4b_buster_current_5.3.11_desktop. Facing issue when trying to use USB devices in the upper USB 3 port on a Rock Pi 4 v1.3. This port also supports USB OTG. The switch is set to Host mode. The storage is detected occasionally, while most of the time it does not work. dmesg contains no reference to the connected storage: $ dmesg | grep usb [ 0.000000] Kernel command line: root=UUID=590fca6f-9771-4245-86a7-34712bfe535b rootwait rootfstype=ext4 console=ttyS2,1500000 console=tty1 panic=10 consoleblank=0 loglevel=1 ubootpart=7ef2aff3-01 usb-storage.quirks=0x2537:0x1066:u,0x2537:0x1068:u cgro…

Hi All, here is a quick howto for flashing a Nanopi M4 V2 I did this using a Linux box and a USB TTL serial cable) 1) Download an image from https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-m4-v2/ 2) Start a terminal 3) cd to the folder containing your download 4) Unzip your download to extract the *.img file 5) Connect an sdcard or eMMC to your pc ( I used a transcend adapter ) 6) Run lsblk to identify your device, in my case it returned /dev/sdc 7) Run mount to ensure it is not mounted and unmount it if necessary ( umount /dev/sdc or umount /dev/sdc1 ) 8) Run dd if =NameOfYourImage.img of=/dev/sdc status=progress 9) When completed …

I have a 4G Rev 2 Rock64 that is running like a champ on current - 5.4.2 as of this writing, as far as USB and Ethernet are concerned. I did have to blacklist UAS for all my USB drives, and now the board is rock solid even with heavy disk and network IO. I do have one problem though, I have no sound. I have the following loaded (automatically): root@chdock:/home/sugata# cat /proc/modules |grep snd snd_soc_rk3328 16384 0 - Live 0xffff800008dc9000 And yet, I get this: root@chdock:/home/sugata# aplay -l aplay: device_list:272: no soundcards found... I searched around this forum and nothing obvious came up. Any ideas?
