Is there a method to boot with BSP kernel (the 4.4 kernel supplied by Rockchip/Radxa) on an existing install (jammy) to compare power usage to mainline kernel (5.15.y current or even 5.19.y rolling)? I tried using the switch kernel support in armbian-config, but the linux-image-legacy-rockchip64 4.4.213-rockchip64 just hung during early boot and had to recover to linux-image-current-rockchip64 5.15.69 . P.S. This is related to my question on the Radxa forums about reducing Rock Pi 4 B+ power usage.

Greetings to all! I want to share the news. 2020.07.21 Mainlinte U-Boot includes patches for Rock-Pi-N10. https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/uboot/list/?series=191290&state=* I am trying to build it and run. Dear all I have a question concerning the Tinker Board video playback function. Until now I used some raspberry PIs 3b to create a simple system that video playbacks in loop after booting for my video installations. Now as the raspberries are not in stock at the moment but i need very urgently another working system, i saw that i can buy the tinker board 2.0 for a reasonable price. However, I'm not a programming specialist and was happy when I got the raspberry to run, I couldn't found anything about the tinker board and specially about a video loop function. I imagine that it is possible, just wondering how complicated it is. Can someone tell me …

Hello, I have been using Armbian OS on Rock Pi 4B. Full system is on NVME, not using SD card, and there is no eMMC chip on the board. During usage, I needed to shut it down improperly: by removing power cable, not through sudo shutdown now In the end I have following message during boot: Also, here is contents of dev folder: I was wondering if it is possible to fix this error. If not, I will reinstall with new image. Just spent much time on setting the environment, don't want to redo this all I would appreciate any help.

I planned to upgrade and skip current 5.18 (EOL) with edge 5.19 or just use LTS 5.15. Offcial images 5.19/edge (e.g. Armbian_22.08.1_Nanopct4_sid_edge_5.19.5.img.xz) won't boot at all, maybe a short uboot screen. Using uboot v22.04 like other rk3399 boards did not fix it. SInce the nanopct4.conf is boardfamily=media but also works with rockchip64 (which was changed some time ago), building with boardfamily=rockchip64 current 5.15 or edge 5.19 works fine, the cli builds boot as expected. Maybe a general question, which bordfamily fits now best to nanopct4. I remember exactly problems which were fixed bei 150balbes maintainer when pul…

I'm trying to understand the role of zram and having some difficulties with it. I've looked in several places and my understanding is this: - It's a block device in RAM that uses compression - It functions similar to swap I notice that mine is set to about 2 Gb: wurmfood@helios64:~$ cat /proc/swaps Filename Type Size Used Priority /dev/zram0 partition 1945084 0 5 My questions: 1. Does that mean 2 Gb of the device RAM is used for the zram swap device? 2. I can understand this on devices with slower storage, b…

System logs: http://ix.io/4bd2 I have been using Armbian OS with Rock Pi 4B. The problem with Rock Pi 4B is that it doesn't have a power-on/off button. So, for closed systems with no keyboard/UI, there is no way to shutdown/start the system properly. Only option is to disconnect the power cable, which has corrupted my OS few times(by the way didn't happen on Debian). I implemented shutdown function through MRAA library and by attaching a button to 40-pin GPIO header. But with this approach, system can go to sleep, but cannot wake-up through button because my software is not running. As I have understood, the best approach to have a proper button f…

This feels really awkward, since I already asked about this problem in another part of the forum, but the bug reporting system says that bugs should be reported by posting in this section of the forum. Feel free to merge the other thread into this one if you want. (Link at bottom.) Linux kernel 5.15.x appears to have a serious regression that prevents GPIO from working correctly on the Rock Pi 4B+ (board version 1.73). Summary: All GPIO4A pins are nonfunctional: Pin 12 stuck off Pin 35 stuck off Pin 36 stuck off Pin 38 stuck off Pin 40 stuck off GPIO1B is nonfunctiona…

Hi, Have the r2s for some time and it worked well in the beginning. But then it started to freeze randomly. The logs do not have any error in it. Initially I thought it could be the interface drive problem, changed the interface and still freezes. When the r2s is frozen, serial port won't respond. Keeping serial connection and restarting the r2s, boot messages show normally. When I keep the serial connected, r2s do not freeze (tried for more than a week). Found this other post, not sure if this is the same problem as it does boot, but seems related. mUSB serial connection rarely works. Have to boot some times until it works. Although I am an exp…

Just have the right system light, but left LED no blinking, no information in the USBC terminal. For the "recovery", press the recovery button, and then press the power button, and the LED System don't light up. What can we do, format the system, and reinstall OMV with all parameters... Not really serious, ins't it ? Thank you for any help. Regard.

Hi all, I have a nanopi m4 with following installation - Armbian_22.05.4_Nanopim4v2_jammy_current_5.15.48_xfce_desktop. I am looking for someone who has retroarch installed on armbian and fully working, and what the key steps are. Im asking because: 1) I tried installing by command line, which installs retroarch to a location with no cores. An issue with rk3399 cores is that there are none to download and must be built seperately (Is there a way to update a file so that cores can be downloaded through the application?) 2) In an attempt to build retroarch + cores, i downloaded and built libretro, which took probab…

(Note: this is crossposted from an ATS issue, since I think it might be quicker to get answers here. Will post on one thread when I get answers that work in the other) Have installed ats on my Rock64, running Armbian 22.05 Jammy with kernel version 5.10.63, and am having trouble getting the fan to spin. The fan I'm using is the one that comes with this case, and it spins when I connect it to a battery. I just cannot access spi on my Rock64. I read a couple posts of it but none works out for me I'm running Armbian 22.05.3 Focal with Linux 5.15.52-rockchip64 on it. Tried enabling spi-jedec-nor and spi-spidev overlay, but with none of them I get output when executing ls /dev/spi*. Is it maybe a hardware issue, reading this post suggests that to me: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=5473&pid=34616#pid34616 But I cannot make much sense out of it. Can anyone help me get spi working?

Since Linux 5.15, the USB3 port on ROCK64 does not work anymore with Armbian. The following kernel errors are shown: usb 5-1: USB disconnect, device number 2 [...] usb usb5-port1: Cannot enable. Maybe the USB cable is bad? This has been reported by multiple users with multiple drives and cables, also disabling UAS does not help. lsusb shows the drive/device, but lsblk does not. I know the ROCK64 is not currently supported by Armbian/has no maintainer, so I'm not expecting anything, just posting this as information and probably someone with more insights into the rockchip64 kernel build has an idea or workaround.

However as soon as i move the install over to emmc, all networking seems to break, with services no longer working, but some admin pages report everything is fine. Pi-Hole for example shows as running but no devices accessing the dns cant load webpages and the pi-hole management pages stop showing any further queries received. ive repeated the process of doing a clean install to sd , everything fine. move to emmc stops working ☹️

I'm using it with an HDMI LDC 7" capcaitive touchscreen by Waveshare (https://www.waveshare.com/product/displays/lcd-oled/lcd-oled-1/7inch-hdmi-lcd-h.htm). I can't rotate the LCD in portrait mode. In Application->Screen the "Rotation" section is "none" and there aren't any other choice (like left, right, inverted). If in command line I use: xrandr --output HDMI-1 --rotate left it gives me back: xrandr: output HDMI-1 cannot use rotation "left" reflection "none" Does anybody knows how to solve it and rotate the …

Hi there, now I have pure bug report: done apt update + apt ugprade, GUI frozen, even no SSH, about an hour later (I was outside my house) (probably) restarted but up to multiuser, no GUI at all. Howeve I CAN log over SSH, sthe issue "startx", but ONLY as ROOT. (much indesired, as ex web browser should never be started as root). I can enable remote X in /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc , then start remote X session. Also "init 5" attempts to start X, but crashes. How to diagnose and repair? Laurent

Hello People. First of all, thank you to all the people that puts work and time into this project. It's my first time posting here. I've been trying to solve this problem by myself since this board it's unsupported now, but I had no luck. Hey guys, looks like there's no support for board serial number in latest images for Station M2. Serial number on rk356x is coming from otp memory, so: 1) there are no bindings for `otp` and `cpuinfo` devices in .dts, like here 2) there are no kernel driver to extract data from otp memory, like here I'm ready to contribute, but not sure what's the future plan for those.

Good news. Full-fledged working images (20210827) of ArmbianTV for P2 and M2 are ready. All the equipment works in them and you can start and configure the system via an HDMI monitor and a keyboard/mouse. The binaries supplied with the ArmBian release for the Rock Pi 4 work great. However, when I try to build my own from Mainline sources, I see lots of booting issues. Do you use Rockchip provided binaries, or are they built from scratch? Any help would be gratefully received.

Hello, I received recently an Helios64 from a new friend, However, when I get home, I plug it in, turn it on (already I have to press the power button for 4 seconds to get some life) and I get the following LEDs lit up: - LED1 - LED2 - LED3 - LED5 - LED6 i got nothing on the serial line (tested on MacOS and Windows), and no reaction when I do quick and long press on Recovery nor Reset. Is there some electronic schematic that could help me to debug hardware or procedure to get JTAG access to the RK3399 ? Regards,

@Contributor/Maintainer AR-1172 - fix complete 08 May 2022 There is was a bug in the 5.15, 5.16 and 5.17 kernel r8152 driver that affected RTL8153b Gigabit USB Ethernet (LAN0) on the Orange Pi R1plus LTS and other boards. The bug only presents on high load and I can trigger it reliably with bidirectional high load on Orange Pi R1plus LTS. The bug kills the RX interface and it requires power down to reset. I assume that it also affects the Orange Pi R1plus, and there are reports of it affecting NanoPi R2S. I would assume that other boards could be impacted. My proposed fix is to revert the driver back to the version used in 5.10 kernel (and to disa…

Hello, My NAS becomes unresponsive every time I run a somewhat CPU-intensive task: indexing photos in photoprism, importing followings in Mastodon… or just browsing Mastodon. Is it expected of the Rockchip RK3399 or can I improve the situation with the right CPUfreq config ? Not sure if this is the place for this since it isn't really a software issue, but... So I decided to take apart my Helios64 to apply the 2.5Gb/1Gb Ethernet fix and things went badly. I ended up accidentally destroying the 402 caps on one of the SATA ports by scrapping the board against the standoffs as I was pulling it out of the case. As far as I can tell, they should be part of the SATA standard, 10nF DC blocking caps, so I have a rough idea of what they might have been but I don't know for sure since they are simply gone. Does anyone happen to know what those caps were or have access to a circuit diagram or BOM I could referenc…

I'm running armbian 10.5 (kernel 5.8.6-rockchip64) on my new NanoPi R2S. I configured it as a router: lan0 (USB ethernet) is the LAN interface, eth0 (real ethernet) is the wan interface, ip forwarding enabled. On the LAN subnet I put a iperf3 client, on the WAN subnet I put a iperf3 server. Launching iperf -c _server_ip_ on the client is ok, I can reach 830Mbps, but launching iperf with -R (reverse) makes the lan0 interface to reset/disconnect. I can find the following logs in the kernel: Sep 8 20:53:32 gw kernel: [ 611.981696] ------------[ cut here ]------------ Sep 8 20:53:32 gw kernel: [ 611.981726] NETDEV WATCHDOG: lan0 (…

Like many others, I get constant reboots with my Helios. I'm not sure it's worth me posting logs as a number of people already seem to be doing that. My question is, does anyone have a stable system? If so what OS and kernel are you using? I don't care about latest and greatest features, I just want it to stop hard rebooting.

I have a recovery issue. I have successfully flashed an image on to my RK3399 SOM, but I made a mistake on the USB, so am trying to correct the error, but I have no USB communication when I boot into recovery mode. It also tries to find a backup partition: "'backup' does not seem to be a partition nor an address Unable to boot:backup" then suggests I start rockusb: "try to start rockusb", but I have no USB. I have tried with several different computers and USB cables, but there is no USB! I assume that the boot file for recovery mode are no…

Hello, I had a NanoPi M4v2 running 5.10.63 (buster) for a while without issue. Both I2C and SPI were working perfectly fine and the system was stable. Today apt updated the kernel to 5.15.25 and it broke multiple things, the first issue was that the network wasn't working properly, yellow light but not green one / no IP requested from the local DHCP server. The overlays on this system were: overlays=dwc3-0-host i2c7 i2c8 spi-spidev overlays=dwc3-0-host i2c7 i2c8 spi-spidev I connected the eMMC moule to a card reader and removed the overlays one by one and found out that `i2c8` was breaking my boot / network: overl…

Hi! I am trying the vanilla 5.15 kernel which has support for helios64. The system is booting, disks, MMC and network are working. But fancontrol fails. It seems the /sys entries have changed and the udev rules are not working. I've tried to understand the wiki page in order to adapt the udev rules and fancontrol config file but I am a little bit lost. Is there updated versions of those config files? Kind regards, Xavier Miller.

Hi there, I have a rockpi 4b running armbian bionic desktop legacy kernel 4.4y on a 128 GB emmc module, I’d like to use this machine as a server. I was just tinkering around with Plex, .bashrc and crontab while all of a sudden the keyboard mapping over RDP changed (e.g. > became ;, ~ became @ etc) (indication of the problem?). I tried to fix this by changing the system keyboard layout and running dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration, this all didnt work. I decided to reboot the machine to see if that would work. After the reboot I could not connect to either RDP or SSH so I decided to connect the machine to a HDMI monitor. This resulted in the following o…

Has anyone been able to get UART2 debug Serial working using P14 and an FT232 USB cable? A few Armbian packages were updated (armbian-bsp-cli-helios64, armbian-config, armbian-firmware &armbian-zsh) to version 21.05.08. I loaded both the Raxda Debian OS and the Armbian OS on the Rock Pi 4A+ (4GB RAM / 32GB eMMC) integrated eMMC chip and both boot fine. I then ran the Phoronix pts/scikit-learn benchmark and got a big discrepancy in performance: https://openbenchmarking.org/result/2112285-NE-2112281NE08 The Raxda Debian OS (noted as rockpi4a+raxdadebian in the benchmark) performs basically the same as the Rock Pi 4A version (noted as rockpi4-rk3399 running Armbian), as expected. The Armbian OS (tested multiple times as rockpi4a-emmc, rockpi4a+, rockpi4a+governor, and rockpi4a+armbian) all perform terribly. Thoughts?

Hello to everybody ! I'm new to this forum and to linux. After installing my Helios64 recently, I had a few problems and had to go with the eMMC maskrom installation which were fine. PS : I've installed on top of the linux kernel (4.4) Open Media Vault (latest version). After installing everything, I've noticed that the fans were not functioning. I've checked the documentation on kobol.io site and went to the /etc/fancontrol config file and set the values as it was shown on the doc. I've restarted the fancontrol service, but still nothing. I've tried to read the pwm of my fans (has fan P7 were linked to the hwmon0 : cat /sys/class/…

Hi! I'm trying to install NUT because I connected a UPS device. I'd like to get it working so that the server is shutdown safely when there is a power interruption and that I get an e-mail notifying me as soon as there is an interruption. Already after installing via sudo apt install nut nut-client nut-server I get the following warnings: Setting up nut-client (2.7.4-8) ... Job for nut-monitor.service failed because the service did not take the steps required by its unit configuration. See "systemctl status nut-monitor.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details. invoke-rc.d: initscript nut-client, action "restart" failed. ● nut-moni…

Hello, I have a Helio64 not yet configured and I would like to be able to install the latest image available on https://armbian.hosthatch.com/dl/helios64/archive/ and especially to install the latest OpenMediaVault 6 version. Do you think this is possible ? Or will OpenMediaVault 6 not be available from armbian-config? As I write this post, the latest image available for Helios64 is Armbian_21.05.9_Helios64_bullseye_current_5.10.63.img.xz I thank you for your help Flolm

Hi guys, I have been using my Helios64 for more than a year now. I have it connected with the 1Gbps NIC. I have been reading about network bonding and getting both NICs up and running. The main purpose would be to have it running in mode "Adaptive Transmit Load Balancing" (mode 5). First I've discovered the issue with the 2.5Gbps not being able to keep a consistent (and performant) speed. So I've soldered the missing pin from the capacitor to the NIC (more on this later). I've checked the speed and now it is up to specs, getting very close to 1000Mbps (960-980Mbps). But here it comes the problem that I'm facing, if I enable both independently …
