  2. Hi together, iam realy desperate and hope someone can help me with my problem. I think something crashed while I disconnected the USB-Cable in U-Boot Mode with helios64. Now Iam not able to see my m.2 SATA SSD in U-Boot Mode as USB Storage in my PC. I use the U-Boot mode from a SD-Card with a boot image. When I start some armbian System from SD-Card the m.2 SSD is visible and ready to use. I dont know what kind of logs do you need for my Problem. Sorry for that. :-( The only thing I want to do is to use my SATA m.2 SSD as armbian system drive with OpenMediaVault again. best regards sommer11 Infos to my device: https:…

  4. Hi folks, I am puzzled. When I am away for a few days I usually shut down my nas. It does indeed shut down but over night comes up again. Now I would like to know what triggers that unwanted restart here... I am currently on 21.08.3 Buster with Linux rockchip64 5.10.63 and do have OMV running... I could unplug the battery next time but I'd rather solve the issue the correct way. It's strange to me because I did not change any system parameters in OMV or via SSH. I do believe that an update to the latest kernel did mess things up. Where do I have to have a look?

  8. Hi there, i'm trying to getting Armbian working on my RockPi 4B. Installation and everything went fine. 9. Hi All, since i had many problem with my old OPI R1 (without PLUS) I just ordered the newer Model with 1 Gig Ram, RK3328 CPU and two Gigabit Ports. There Is a debian Image available on their Google Drive Share right now, I'll certainly try that out, but Is there a generic Armbian Image as well, I can take? Should be pretty straigt forward Device, I tink.... HDMI Out is not available, only USB Gigabit Ethernet and Rockchip Gigabit Ethernet. Would be great if Hardware encryption for IPSec is also availaibe. Any thoughts? Cheers Ford Prefect

Hello all, I have a question today regarding ARMBIAN - Linux and the configuration of the ZRAM .... Under the ARMBIAN for RockPI 4 I have a ZRAM for the SWAP and a ZRAM for /var/log. Is it possible that I change this configuration and use the eMMC memory for these two areas? Because the big problem with /var/log is that it is simply too small and thus constantly runs into "ERROR" -> volume full. Thank you very much and I am looking forward to constructive contributions to solve my problem. Kind regards

  12. Hi folks, I am wondering if somebody with a mac enviroment has a decent / performant samba connectivity? After I upgraded to Big Sur I have severe issues with the samba protocol when accessing my shares on the helios running openmediavault. I know that Apple had made some changes with samba but there might be some users that dug a little bit deeper and could give me a hint. I did try it with different settings in the extra options over the past weeks but with no luck so far. Sidenote: Also NFS is terribly slow and laggy. I am back with AFP connection now that does the job perfectly and fast.

  13. Hi, I need some guide and steps required (and if possible) to enable hardware acceleration using FFmpeg. I created the following topic: https://forum.openmediavault.org/index.php?thread/40252-many-problems-after-an-update/&pageNo=1 . There, a kind moderator (macom) asked me to enter some instructions to try to pinpoint the root of the problem. After giving him some outputs, he told me: "For me it looks like your SD card is dead." I can't understand what's happening, when I plug it back through USB everything is back to normal. Does the partitioning through USB differ somehow??? 20. Hello, I am working with "Armbian_21.08.1_Nanopineo4_focal_current_5.10.60" on a nanopi Neo4. During the initial boot, the (HDMI) monitor shortly displayed some text (went to fast to read) and then went blank and the monitor turned off. However, output came through the serial debug port (USB2) and I was able to complete the initial setup. Now, I can now connect with SSH, but it would be nice to be able to work directly. How can I redirect the output to the HDMI monitor? Cheers, John

  21. Edit: This is a duplicate already reported and a pull request in place. mods please delete The solution is to revert a patch related to power management. Symptoms are that ethernet link comes up, but no ip, dhcp, cannot assign ip address. the following patch resolves the issue on my system. Hello. So, really sorry to hear that Team Kobol are disbanding. Many thanks to all who worked so hard to put the Helios64 together. I am really pleased with my Helios64, and am grateful for being able to get hold of one of these. Thank you! 🙏 What with one thing an another, I never got hold of a UPS battery; the battery couldn't be shipped with the original shipment, due to restrictions on shipping Li-Ion batteries; and then the additional postage costs for sending the battery seperately were prohibitive for Team Kobol, which I completely understand, so I chose not to pay the extra for the battery. However, it would be really useful for me to build…

  32. This happened out of the blue, without indication of anything else being wrong. I just noticed that NFS stalled, and realized that the server is not on the network. Last week I updated the Armbian on my NanoPi M4V2 to the latest version (Armbian 21.08.1 Buster with Linux 5.10.60-rockchip64) and started noticing some issues with my Zigbee2MQTT local install. With the help of the Zigbee2MQTT main developer, we managed to confirm that the issue was reproducible on 5.10.60, but everything was working fine on previous kernels like 5.4. Other users not on Armbian (Raspbian) also confirmed that they were experiencing this problem with the latest kernel but was working fine on previous versions. We realized a bug was introduced for the CH341 driver in 5.10.60, that seems to have been fixed now on 5.10.62. …

Hi, I have bricked my system by installing the rk3399 legacy multmedia framework. It was installed on emmc. I was able to recover my system by using the P11 jumper to skip the boot on emmc, as explained in the doc, and now my system runs on a SDCard. The problem is, it seems that I cannot access the EMMC anymore -- it does not show up /dev. My intuition is that the P11 jumper disables the EMMC altogether. Am I write and if so, how can I access the EMMC again? I would like to be able to read it again (I had important data, notably unison synchronization files) and reinstall a fresh OS on it. Any help would be welcome!

  42. I seem to have hit another problem with my Helios64. It seems that overnight, HDs 4 and 5 disappeared and no longer seem to be powered. I've disconnected all the other drives and tried it with just 4, and it seems to be a power problem as the drive activity light seems to light up for a short while, but not at full prightness. I have a strange problem with my R2S. I grabbed latest buster and focal images, burned them using Balena Etcher onto a pair of 32GB SanDisk Extreme Cards and neither is booting. Serial console shows that boot process gives up waiting for root file system and drops me into initramfs shell. Looking into /dev, I see no mmcblk0 device (or any other block device apart from loops). If I now eject and re-insert the card, the device shows up. If I do it during boot process, while the board is still waiting for rootfs, boot process continues correctly. Reboots are fine, but if I unplug the board for longer than a second it's back to initramfs for me. …

  48. I understand that this problem is not related to armbian. I tries asking NexDock but they don't know how to make it. So, I just wonder anybody knows how to let armbian on Rock PI4B work with NexDock 360's keyboard ? I know when using Raspberry PI, I can add a line dtoverlay=dwc2,dr_mode=host to /boot/config.txt. But when using armbian, there is no config.txt in /boot. Thanks.

  49. Dear Armbian supporters, Using kernel 5.10.21-rockchip64 on Rock Pi 4 (and 5.10.21-sunxi on Lime2), I am not able to mount a LUKS-encrypted drive. Changing the kernel to 5.10.16-rockchip64/5.10.16-sunxi I am able to mount the LUKS-encrypted drive again. Error message when trying to mount the drive is: "No key available with this passphrase". Which change could have introduced this bug? Greetings a5s397

This is something hopefully suitable to become a 'Board Bring up' thread. The NanoPC T4 was the smallest RK3399 board around featuring full set of interfaces (Rock960 was smaller but there you can't use GbE without a proprietary expander) but in the meantime he got two smaller siblings: NanoPi M4 and the cute NEO4. Pros: Another RK3399 board so software support is already pretty mature Rich set of interfaces (2 x USB2 without shared bandwidth, 2 x USB3, triple display output and so on) No powering hassles due to 12V (2A) PSU requirement 16GB superfast eMMC 5.1 Usable and performant Wi-Fi (dual band and dual antenna so…

I finally assembled my Helios 64 today. Went well, just took a while. I'm reading the Kobol Wiki page for installing the OS on the internal EMMC and am a bit confused. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I usually boot a SBC the first time from an SD card to do some testing. Then I'll use Armbian config to install the OS onto the EMMC when I am ready. The Kobol Wiki talks about first installing uboot from an SD card. Is that actually needed? Also, do I really need to set up a serial terminal session? I usually just SSH into the box (I know find the IP address via my DHCP server) and configure everything from there.

Is there an accepted procedure for moving from using ramlog to logging to disk? I've looked but everything I can find is about setting up ramlog. I assume it's more complicated than just creating a partition (or ZFS dataset) and mounting it /var/log, disabling ramlog, and rebooting.

I have two Rock64 single-board computers running Focal Fossa. One is stable and the other gets segmentation faults when compiling and sometimes a kernel oops. Unfortunately, I'm clueless how to do this. I'm running the latest Armbian Focal Fossa Server from August 19 with the 5.7.17 kernel. Do I need to build a new image or can I patch an existing SD card? Hence my quest to simply get the SBC up and running from the SD card. I have tried everything this morning, I cannot get an image to load at all. One of my questions is; do the hard drives need to be installed just to get the SBC working? I have tried with them in and out to no avail. Are there some lingering config files residing on the HDs th…

I am successfully using /dev/ttyS2 after modifying /boot/armbianEnv.txt (Console=Display) and masking the gettyS2 service. The device/system I have connected to UART2 (/dev/ttyS2) periodically sends bytes. Thus, if a remote restart or a cold boot is performed (power glitch or power reset) while that system is connected to UART2, it triggers the abort of Autoboot. Requiring the other system/device to be disconnected from UART2, a cold boot of the RockPi4 and then reconnection of the system/device to UART2. I…

The script is generous -- it waits for 916mV or less before a shut-down. This value was provided by the KOBOL team on their Wiki as the…

Hi, I'm very pleased with my Helios 64, but since I updated to Armbian 20.11.6 (from 20.08.11 or 21, not really sure) it reboots at random times: it can run fine for over two weeks and reboot twice in 36 hours, always when idling. It's running OMV as well a multiple Docker containers: PiHole, Wireguard, Nginx, Transmission, restic-server and n8n. Is it a common issue? What fixes do you recommend? What should I look for to diagnose the issue? Thank you. Edit: forgot to mention that I'm using SnapRAID and mergerFS, as well as NFS shares.

Dear all, I am highly interested in the Helios64 and registered for the next batch. Here are a few questions, I hope that your guys can answer. The OS is Embedded Debian I assume. Questions are quite simple: 1) Hard drive numbering on startup Under Debian, the hard drives in a RAID array are renumbered on each startup by random: /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, etc ... This means that if drive /dev/sdb fails ... it is not necessarily the second hard drive in the bay. I already lost a RAID server extracting the wrong disc in an array. Then I migrated to a Synology NAS and notices that this problem had been fixed as dis…

  90. I'm working on a new distro which is an ARM port of slackware64-15.0 beta. The cooked image is here: http://mirrors.aptalaska.net/slackware/slarm64/images/helios64/ This image is built using the build scripts at https://gitlab.com/sndwvs/images_build_kit/-/tree/arm/ The high level view is that it's downloading the kernel from git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git (linux-5.12.y) then applying the patches found at https://gitlab.com/sndwvs/images_build_kit/-/tree/arm/patch/kernel/rk3399-next then builds the kernel with config https://gitlab.com/sndwvs/images_build_kit/-/blob/arm/config/kernel/linux-rk3399-next.config…

  91. I originally installed Armbian witk Kernel 4.4 on my Nanopi.m4 and later upgraded it to 5.10 via armbian-config. Things work fine but whenever I got a new update via apt update, things get messed up a bit the /boot/Image got linked to vmlinux-4.4.213-rk3399 instead of vmlinuz-5.10.35-rockchip64 while others uInitrd -> uInitrd-5.10.35-rockchip64 dtb -> dtb-5.10.35-rockchip64 The result's the board couldn't boot-up, when I restarted it. And, I need to correct the Image -> vmlinuz-5.10.35-rockchip64 and doing mkimage -C none -A arm -T script -d boot.cmd boot.scr from another linux machine to the SDCard. It works fine …

  92. Despite this being the supported image advertised for the board, it just does not boot on this board, whereas the "current" image does boot (but with limited hardware support). I'm booting with just the serial console connected, to limit interferences On serial console with default config I get: Found U-Boot script /boot/boot.scr 3185 bytes read in 4 ms (777.3 KiB/s) ## Executing script at 00500000 Boot script loaded from mmc 1 117 bytes read in 3 ms (38.1 KiB/s) 7861795 bytes read in 361 ms (20.8 MiB/s) 20770824 bytes read in 941 ms (21.1 MiB/s) 104363 bytes read in 11 ms (9 MiB/s) 2698 bytes read in 7 ms (376 KiB/s) Applying kernel provided DT fixup…

  95. Note that I want to use Hardware acceleration also later, but the issue is that it seems there's no HA for ffmpeg on the chip as you can see here. Thanks in advance!

  97. Hi everyone! I bought a while a go few Rock Pi 4's for as a testing purpose and today while doing some laaarge malloc's it failed in really interesting manner; run out of memory. I did some stumbling with the code and did not find any bugs, so i looked for htop and was a very much suprised to see that my 2GB model has only 1GB total, /proc/meminfo reports same! Is this somekind of arm-specific thing that i do not just know? Memory chips (there is two of them) on the board is: NCLD4C1MA256M32 https://dl.vamrs.com/products/rock960/docs/hw/datasheets/FORESEE_LPDDR4_200ball_NCLD4CXMAXXXM32_10x14.5_VFBGA_Spec_B1_20170802.pdf 256Mb…

  98. Few days ago i saw an issue after i added rule to auto-reboot device once a day, every time it's reboot it's losses connection with sata hat - no more sata controler after typing "lspci" and some nasty output after "dmesg | grep pcie". I tried reboot manually, when i reboot just after powering on (like up to 2 min), pcie goes back up and there is no issue, but if device stay on for longer and i reboot it then there is pcie training issue and mervell sata controller don't get recognized anymore, further rebooting don't fix the problem, i even tried to connect drives power straight through SATA Hat, but it had changed nothing. The only fix is to shutdown device instead …

  100. I notice the Helio64 hardware supports WOL, but I can't see anything in the Wiki about it (only Helios4) The Helio64 can draw some power with 5 spinning disks, I would love to have it sleep until needed. Is there any information on setting this up? I can see Autoshutdown plugin for OMV, but there is options for: Shutdown Hibernate Suspend Hybrid Sleep Suspend then Hibernate Does Helios64 support all these methods? Then once the unit is in some form of shutdown or sleep state, how can I make use to WOL to wake it up? Thanks.
