If Helios/Kobol is out of business - What "specs" should I use to define a replacement board - a rockchip 3399 board with the dimensions ? Help please -- (I'm getting an increased number of memory errors and of late an increased number of USB faults) I'm running (at the moment) - the system as a simple NAS with exported NFS4 volumes - the entire lot of 5 drives are formatted at BTRFS -- I'm working on archiving the data off and once done I'll format all as ext4 and try using simple RAID. Hi, New builds (hosted by armbian AND self compiled) of armbian do not post / boot at all. Completely black screen on hdmi outpout. Ethernet link lights do not light up. It's like there is no bootable media inserted (it definitely is). I have tried many combinations of different kernels and ubuntu versions. None work. Board: nanopc t6 8gb ram They used to work, and archived copies from november 2023 work, booting perfectly. I also compiled one back then which also worked. But now this is not working any more. Does anyone have idea why it no longer posts? Thanks Luke

I've got an OrangePi based on the Rockchip RK3399. The official OrangePi Debian version I'm using is Armbian-based I believe and uses a 5.10 kernel. I want to upgrade the kernel as later ones support some video features of the RK3399 I want to use. The problem is, if I build the kernel using the standard vanilla method from kernel.org sources even using the same config file from the running kernel without changing anything (make olddefconfig), the device won't boot when I symlink the new kernel to /boot/Image. Interestingly, it does boot if I symlink the new initrd to /boot/uInitrd, but only with the old kernel. Is there something special I need to do to the k…

I loaded both the Raxda Debian OS and the Armbian OS on the Rock Pi 4A+ (4GB RAM / 32GB eMMC) integrated eMMC chip and both boot fine. I then ran the Phoronix pts/scikit-learn benchmark and got a big discrepancy in performance: https://openbenchmarking.org/result/2112285-NE-2112281NE08 The Raxda Debian OS (noted as rockpi4a+raxdadebian in the benchmark) performs basically the same as the Rock Pi 4A version (noted as rockpi4-rk3399 running Armbian), as expected. The Armbian OS (tested multiple times as rockpi4a-emmc, rockpi4a+, rockpi4a+governor, and rockpi4a+armbian) all perform terribly. Thoughts?

I have zero room on the root of my helios64? I literally just installed OMV made a raid 5 and setup my shares. Afterwards I setup Transmission and suspect that might be my problem. Any thoughts to locate exactly what is killing my flash memory. I tried df -h and du -sh /. this didn't point me to anything specific.

Hello, I stupidly upgraded without thinking about the possible consequences. 6.1 to 6.2. Ive had my /home on nvme. But the nvme drive is no longer recognized. I have managed to get my display back, Im not sure about my panel yet. I had restore my device tree overlay. Ive hacked around losing the nvme. But it would be good to get my nvme drive back. I've got some work to do to deal with not having that storage and what was on it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Alternatively, maybe it's not too hard to roll back to 6.1? I haven't contemplated that.

Using Image "Armbian_community_25.5.0-trunk.185_Orangepi5-max_bookworm_current_6.12.17_minimal.img.xz" on orange pi 5 max, the fan connected to the designated 1.25mm pwm fan connector won't do anything at all regardless of the cpu load. Just to verify the connector was fine I tested the same on the same board with the same fan, using orange pi's image "Orangepi5max_1.0.0_ubuntu_jammy_server_linux5.10.160" and the fan worked fine under cpu stress.

Hi! How can I install the edge kernel while still being able to boot armbian and keeping the built-in wireless module working? Is there any firmware for this module at all for kernel 6.2?

Just got the notification to update After the reboot all seems good - iSCSI is now supported out of the box. Will wait for the official images to be pushed to the downloads page to try and setup a clean install + overlay FS to document my customizations.

Hi everyone! I got a Radxa E25 network computer with two 2.5GBit ethernet ports. The first one is coming up, the second one, however, does not. After comparing to the Debian Bullseye image by Radxa, I figured they don't bring the second port up either but for a different reason. Finally, I found a release on Radxa's Github that brings up both ports. I'll give you the output of that one and the Armbian and the Radxa E25 Bullseye images marked accordingly. The three images are: "b1 (rsdk)", "radxa-e25_bullseye_cli_b1.output.img.xz", works, source: https://github.com/radxa-build/radxa-e25/releases Radxa E25 B…

Hello, Some weeks ago, I installed the "under development" version. File was named Armbian_22.11.0-trunk_Odroidm1_kinetic_edge_6.1.0-rc5.img.xz Now, I see that the "advertised" version is a rolling release armbian 22.11 Jammy. Based on this (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases) page kinetic is an earlier version than jammy. If I scroll down the page ( https://www.armbian.com/odroid-m1/ ) , I see a kinetic rolling weekly release. I suspect that the kinetic is an unstabled release while Jammy 22.11 is. Please can you confirm/explain? If yes, is there a way to "downgrade" to the stable version? Thanks …

Hi community, I am experiencing an issue reinstalling Armbian on my Helios64. I tried all methods including booting from an SD card, flashing the image onto the eMMC directly but every time I boot, I get kernel panic (flashing status light). I also can't connect to the USB via TTY to diagnose the issue. My macbook keeps detecting the /dev/tty.usbserial-DT03OEIM and the next second it is gone. I wanted to install the original Buster image but I cannot find it anymore in any of the archives. It's kind of disappointing because what's the purpose of an archive then if not hold on to an image for a few years. My current theories…

My audio volume was very very low, and very annoyingly I had to boost to 200% 300% which had the problem that the volume buttons were not working properly. You just cant see anything above 100% unless you go into the control panel. Now when it comes to audio I'm the village idiot, but I found a proper solution I think. After some experimentation I found that the module "module-cli-protocol-unix" ( #20 in my case) can be amplified with pactl set-sink-input-volume 20 10db Now YMMV depending on your attached hardware, so change the 10db to whatever suits your situation. After that I made it permanent by adding it to the /etc/pulse/default…

Hi , I downloaded "Armbian_20.08_Orangepi4_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop" from Chinese mirror ... flashed into a 16 GB sd card using Etcher ...and now on first start/boot getting these messages (messages pictures attached )...what may be the problem ? * SBC > Opi4 (with 16 GB on board EMMC) . * Power supply > Original Orange Pi supplied 5v/3 amps . * Os version > Armbian_20.08_Orangepi4_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop. * SD card > 16 GB . Hi all, I am unable to login to OMV on my Helios64. A bit of sleuthing indicates that this is because the / fs is at 100% capacity. At first, I figured I'll just transfer the system install from the 8GB SD Card I started with to the 16GB internal eMMC. Turns out past unfnknblvbl already did that, and now I need to go the other way. The documentation on the old Kobol site isn't entirely accurate about how to do this. My SDCard is /dev/mmcblk1 and even though it's formatted ext4, it simply doesn't show in armbian-config. In fact, the only device that shows in the Install menu is /dev/md127, which is the RAID array itself. I'd rather not be booting f…

Having some issues here. I wrote the newest Ubuntu CLI to my SD card. I booted into the device and used Armbian-Install to move the root to the NVME. I fixed the UUID on the fstab file. I was able to boot up from the SD + NVME. I did an apt update + upgrade, that seemed to go well. I rebooted the device and it won't boot. I get this on the screen: 1.436035] Initranfs unpacking failed: broken padding 2.1982061 Kernel panic- not syncing: No working init found. Try passing init option to kernel. I have a Helios64 that I recently reinstalled/updated to the latest Armbain Jammy image after not updating for quite some time and finding some of the repos to be dead. Without the drives initialized the system seems like it will run for days, but with the drives initialized (ZFS), I will get the below error after a few hours of uptime (~8-10 hours). I have seen some threads saying to set the CPU clock to one speed to fix the issue and some people installing a newer kernel (via beta.armbian.com). If anyone has any thoughts on how I could try and make this more stable I would appreciate it. [477435.475903] rcu: INFO: rcu_preempt self-detected stall on CPU [477…

I noticed today that there are no 23.02 images for the rockpi-4c. The images exist for the 4a, 4b and 4cplus variants but not the 4c. The 22.11 images are the latest for the 4c. The reason I noticed is that on the downloads page for the rockpi4 it is still showing 22.11 as the current images because that page is showing the 4c info, with links provided to the other variants. The fact that it still showed 22.11 caught my eye.

Dear H64-Friends, I've got the Armbian Debian installed with Linux Kernel 5.10 and Open Media Vault (OMV). I just use the basic functions for backing up files, nothing extraordinary. I am wondering what's the best strategy to update the Helios64 system concerning stability and getting no errors for backing up files (automatic USB-Backups). Keep it always up to date if there's an update available in OMV? Or just wait some weeks?

Hi, An old problem, since I got the board which is 4C. Not a + - or whatever but the plain C. Symptoms: 1. HDMI worked randomly, maybe every 10th...15th boot lead to a working system, or rather to a visible HDMI-connection. But now switching on-off does not help at all. 2. Quite often one can get the board booting to the point where it asks for the password, and after clicking ok, it switches the screen off, and won't return. So the telly says that "no signal". 3. When switching on the board the tv set sees that there's someone on the hdmi port, and shows the booting sequence, and finally goes to Armbian's graphical mode asking for t…

Howdy, Just wanted folks to know that debian bullseye is generally getting what I need done. Specially Welcome to Armbian 22.11.1 Bullseye with Linux 5.10.72-rockchip-rk3588 is working. It is working headless just fine. Now what is not working for me. The HDMI is not showing up at all. Between my KVM and ultra wide monitor it may not be an OS issue. SD-card boot is the way I am going. Manual partitioning of the NVME was needed to install. It felt like I needed to reboot a few times to get the NVME to boot. Overall it was a better experience than the experience on the Firefly station P2 competing with Station OS. Thanks…

Hi, community. I have set up this device from which I'm writing this, installed Armbian from SD card, by sweeping out original FriendlyElec images from the FriendlyElec's partition, so I wiped off the Android and Ubuntu, and copied on it the Armbian image, which appeared with the title "RAW". Booted and installed fine. It works. From armbian-config I managed to boot from an USB Toshiba 1Tb disk. To this part, I have a little but efficient linuxPC, ¡¡¡THANK YOU!!!. Hey, I am working with Weston-7 alongside Lima driver with MESA v19 to render using MALI450 on the display but it isn't rendering it properly. I have attached the video link below of Weston terminal on the display for reference. Weston render Any idea what I might be missing here?

Orange Pi 5 Pro 16GB Armbian Ubuntu 24.04 XFCE on NVMe (SD card to boot to NVMe) USB 3.0 is not working anymore after install. Was working on OPi OS Ubuntu 22.04 before as I used it to copy Armbian image to NVMe. Logs shows nothing when connecting / removing cable, boot log has no mention about USB 3.0 and no power delivered. Is there some known setting, e.g. USB in OTG mode or something that can do this?

I just cannot access spi on my Rock64. I read a couple posts of it but none works out for me I'm running Armbian 22.05.3 Focal with Linux 5.15.52-rockchip64 on it. Tried enabling spi-jedec-nor and spi-spidev overlay, but with none of them I get output when executing ls /dev/spi*. Is it maybe a hardware issue, reading this post suggests that to me: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=5473&pid=34616#pid34616 But I cannot make much sense out of it. Can anyone help me get spi working?

Hi, I have a USB device that periodically hangs. Reboot or re-plug helps, but I need something lighter. I've seen several discussions on the problem of resurrecting hanging USB devices, but their solutions seems devices specific. Non on them worked in my case. I tried ioctl with USBDEVFS_RESET among other methods. uhubctl didn't work too (it seems it only sees EHCI hub, while my device is USB3.0 and connected to XHCI). Ideally the solution should depower a single USB connector to let the device fully reset and then get it connected back.

I'm getting this weird graphical artifact on a Radxa Rock 4SE connected to a TV via HDMI. It covers roughly a third of the right side of the display, note that the terminal window is covered by the artifact but the cursor is above it. I started from a Debian minimal image and added the desktop environment via armbian-config. The artifact is visible on both GNOME and KDE Plasma (with fully updated system on both rolling and stable) but not with XFCE. It also disappears with resolutions lower than 4K or switching to tty. Any idea what might be causing this?

Hello, I need to develop a new camera driver. I've already done a big part, but now I've faced with issue: [ 92.374493] rkisp rkisp-vir0: link validation failed for 'rockchip-csi2-dphy0':1 -> 'rkisp-csi-subdev':0, error -32 I know, that basically right, as dhy0 has sink pad, and my subdev has only source pad. But I don't know how to change the sides, or avoid it to link in such order. I've already spent a lot of time on this and still no luck. Do you have any ideas on how to avoid it linking in such order?

Had my Helios up and running for a few months now running off SD card, but there was a message (can't remember where) to not make the install you 'final' setup as things were still in development. I've been keeping track of the 'what works and doesn't' , but as there are no updates in 6 weeks, is the general consensus that we've reached stability and its time to transfer to the eMMC?

Hi, I need to use callback function in Python3 on my NanoPi M4 but I can't, so it is very nice if anyone can help me with this issue. So far I've tried the function with wiringpi as shown command bellow but this doesn't work at all, that generates some errors and after that my command in /usr/bin/ doesn't work .... I can use other functions in wirignpi so guess something is wrong with only this function... Is there any way to use callback function with NanoPi M4, for example using other modules or something Thank you,

When I boot any variant with kernel 6..x.x from SD there is no problem with hdmi. When I flash the same variant to the nvme, it boots fine but there is no hdmi output. The orange pi logo appears for a second, then nothing. I can ssh in and everthing works fine. Any variant with 5.x.x kernel works fine from the nvme, with hdmi output. Just like other times i burned sdcard and inserted latest version of Armbian_24_11, changed armbianEnv.txt to 5b and installed to emmc using armbian-installer. At the end i updated bootloader and emmc disappeared. I tried most of images and last image that is not bricking is Armbian_24.5.3_Orangepi5_bookworm_vendor_6.1.43_minimal.img.xz (link). Unbrick: 1) Reinstall Orangepi OS using document in the link on emmc. After installation is compete emmc will be back. 2) Reinstall Armbian lower than 24_11. The one that i found in archive that worked is 24.5.3.

I have had major problems trying to use spidev on the pine RockPro64 SBC running Armbian_24.2.1_Rockpro64_jammy_current_6.6.16_xfce. I have posted these comments on the pine.org forum also. I think there is a problem with the spidev device in Armbian as it never toggles the CS line. When I controlled the CS line from my software, I could communicate, but the received data was wrong. I have no experience with the device tree, but I suspect an isue therein. To bypass the problem I wrote a bitbang routine and it works fine and gives the correct data. See the attached file for my discussion. usingspi.txt

I've been looking into streaming on the Orange Pi's, which doesn't work, so I thought I would share my findings. I was first told by customer service people that the problem was HDCP, but have found that it is actually the camera. The tech was kind enough to slip that the camera module doesn't have their hooks. I can still view in the browser, and this leaves me to the conclusion that TV boxes and Smart TVs are using the camera modules to record end users without their permission. If the system has the camera hooks, the app is allowed to play. The browser bypasses this, because it has permissions to access private information on our device…

Hello, I have installed a tinkerboard 2S and used it without problems for more than a year now. Today I started Armbian-upgrade to upgrade the system.I use a M2 WIFI card. What happens right after the reboot when the upgrade was done; the system boots normally, showing all information on the monitor, and about 5 seconds after the login prompt is displayed, it completely freezes. That is; the system doesn't react to keypresses on my USB keyboard, and SSH access isn't reacting. I can ping the device however and I know it is not dead as my .NET core application is running normally and I can access it externally! I use a wifi hotspot configuration; the wifi n…

There was a configuration of the ITX-3588j board and other manufacturers on the same rk3588 platform and tried to build Armbian. Hello, As stated recently I had setup a Rock5B with Jammy/Mutimedia and had issues with a 2160P / 3840 x 2160 screen. Initially bootup would show a flickering screen. Adding the custom resolutions via cvt/xrandr and setting line in boot env: "exrtaargs-video=HDMI-A-1:3840x2160@60" fixed that issue However the initial login screen and logout screen resulted in a vibrant flickering background . This was on a Sceptre 50" TV and other perihperials would normally work fine. This took a while to figure out because I was confusing my active desktop provider and Gdm was being used: https://askubuntu.com/questions/91…
