Hello. So, really sorry to hear that Team Kobol are disbanding. Many thanks to all who worked so hard to put the Helios64 together. I am really pleased with my Helios64, and am grateful for being able to get hold of one of these. Thank you! 🙏 What with one thing an another, I never got hold of a UPS battery; the battery couldn't be shipped with the original shipment, due to restrictions on shipping Li-Ion batteries; and then the additional postage costs for sending the battery seperately were prohibitive for Team Kobol, which I completely understand, so I chose not to pay the extra for the battery. However, it would be really useful for me to build…

Good morning, I'm using RK3328 SOM-EVB by Olimex with Armbian 22.02.0-trunk with Linux 4.4.213-rockchip64. I'm using it with an HDMI LDC 7" capcaitive touchscreen by Waveshare (https://www.waveshare.com/product/displays/lcd-oled/lcd-oled-1/7inch-hdmi-lcd-h.htm). I can't rotate the LCD in portrait mode. In Application->Screen the "Rotation" section is "none" and there aren't any other choice (like left, right, inverted). If in command line I use: xrandr --output HDMI-1 --rotate left it gives me back: xrandr: output HDMI-1 cannot use rotation "left" reflection "none" Does anybody knows how to solve it and rotate the …

Hi. I testing out different images for my DIY NAS project. My plan is to use the Orangepi3b board with armbian bookworm and OMV. I have built images from armbian github, (main, trunk) the edge 6.7.10 kernel is working great. But I do get some Iperf3 retries when sending from Opi3b. From Opi3b 60-70MB/s To Opi3b 110MB/s. With Orangepi own bookworm image I have 110/110 and no retries. The same with Joshua Riek's Ubuntu server image, no retries and 110/110. Orangepi3b armbian with 6.7.10 kernel orangepi@orangepi3b:~$ iperf3 -c 192.168.10.197 -f M Connecting to host 192.168.10.197, port 5201 [ 5] local 192.168.10.155 port 56514 connected to 192.…

Hi, I'm new to armbian and I've started with RockPi4b board. I would like to add fan control with PWM, but adding pwm (or pwm0) overlay doesn't work. I can't also find the overlay for it at /boot/dtb-5.8.6-rockchip64/rockchip/overlay/. Is it supported? I've checked and the /sys/class/pwm/pwmchip0 is present, but accessing export, as described here : doesn't work and /sys/class/pwm/pwmchip0/pwm0 is not present. I've tried to find pwm access examples for this board, but none of it works on armbian (all are vendor builds specific). Can anybody point me in the right direction or give any hint how to enable pwm? EDIT…

I'm trying to get a Rock64 board working with a wifi USB dongle, sold as RTL8188 and which is in fact a 8188eu. I use the latest armbian-buster as downloaded a few days ago. The dongle appears in dmesg when plugged in, but no module is loaded. I can manually load the 8188eu module and get no errors, but no wifi interface appears. Ifconfig, iwconfig and nmtui don't see anything they could use for wlan. I have installed the firmware-realtek package as well, it made no difference. I can get the module 8188eu autoloaded at boot, but that doesn't change the non-availability of a wlan interface. Any help appreciated. I have posted the armbianmonitor -u output in the…

Hello ! i'm trying to enable the SPI interface on a OrangePi4B board using Focal latest stable build, so I edit `/boot/armbianEnv.txt` to add these lines : overlays=spi-spidev param_spidev_spi_bus=0 But after rebooting, I'm unable to access to the board anymore (No IP address is assigned to the board by the DHCP server). What's wrong ? Is there any additionnal steps ? FYI, I also tried to enable SPI using armbian-config tool but it doesn't work neither. As this tool doesn't even specify the `param_spidev_spi_bus` parameters which is required according to the overlay README.

Hello, My NAS becomes unresponsive every time I run a somewhat CPU-intensive task: indexing photos in photoprism, importing followings in Mastodon… or just browsing Mastodon. Is it expected of the Rockchip RK3399 or can I improve the situation with the right CPUfreq config ? For context, here is my CPUfreq config and kernel (I have yet to update): axel@helios64:~$ cat /etc/default/cpufrequtils ENABLE="true" GOVERNOR=performance MAX_SPEED=1200000 MIN_SPEED=1200000 axel@helios64:~$ uname -a Linux helios64 5.10.21-rockchip64 #21.02.3 SMP PREEMPT Mon Mar 8 01:05:08 UTC 2021 aarch64 GNU/Linux Thanks!

Hey Everyone, I'm sorry if this has been answered elsewhere. I recently purchased a Radxa Rock 5B+ and I installed the debian bookworm test build provided by radxa on there getting started page. https://docs.radxa.com/en/rock5/rock5b/getting-started/install-os/boot_from_sd_card https://github.com/radxa-build/rock-5b-plus-6_1/releases/download/rsdk-t4/rock-5b-plus-6_1_bookworm_kde_t4.output.img.xz I was mainly intent on using the HDMI with gstreamer using custom resolutions, but found that when using custom resolutions they cannot use the YCrCb pixel format only RGB8. It seems based on the following comment that RGB8 videoconvert hardware …

qemu-system-aarch64 -M virt -cpu host -enable-kvm ... only works reliably when 1 CPU core ( -smp 1). When a VM has 2 cores, it randomly worked I experienced. If virt-manager pick 2 equal cores, VM UEFI/BIOS/kernel runs OK, but if a Cortex-A76 and Cortex-A55, all sorts of exceptions are shown or just lockup 2x or 1x 100% usage. In order to still be able to use KVM, start qemu-system-aarch64 as follows: taskset --cpu-list 4-7 qemu-system-aarch64 -M virt -cpu host -enable-kvm -smp 4 ... or taskset --cpu-list 0-3 qemu-system-aarch64 -M virt -cpu host -enable-kvm -smp 4 ... Hi Folks, I'm testing the M4 board with Armbian Buster, I'm having the following problems with the GPIO: How can I use gpio without root? I've checked and there isn't a /dev/gpiomem device so I can give permissions to other users. Only a few of the GPIO pins can be set. Most of them don't show up as configurable through gpio readall. A few of them show as ALT and although I can change their mode (input / output), I cannot change/read their value, it seems those are shared with i2c-3, so this can be the problem, but I don't know how to disable i2c-3 and use them. Also, can all the 6 cores work at the same time? Or the BIG.little architecture…

I am using rk3588-sd-debian-bookworm-core-6.1-arm64-20250123.img.gz It is excellent asides from lacking NPU support. Before I go down the path of learning kernel compilation and scanning poorly documented Rockchip repositories, has anyone got a current version of Armbian that includes NPU support? If not, is there any good guide to using a cross-compile system and integrating third part drivers?. On a slightly different topic I would prefer to not use fuse file systems and run off the NVME drive directly. Are there any resources on this?

Hi everybody, I recently set up a small server with the Rock64 booting armbian stretch 5.59 stable directly from a 120 GB SSD attached via USB3. Booting is handled with U-Boot from ayufan on the SPI flash. The Rock64 is board revision 2.0, the power supply is the original Pine64 one for the Rock. Besides the SSD, there are no other peripherals connected. The board often (3 out of 4 times) hangs when booting. In this case, all LEDs are lit, the orange network LED will flash and the board is not reachable by SSH and not pingable. My impression is, that it is stuck because the SSD either powered up too late or the USB connection is delayed. However, I…

Hi, I have deployed a NanoPi Neo 4 and for the most part, I'm happy with it, but am having a peculiar problem. I am using the manufacturer-supplied serial console cable and USB adapter (via screen /dev/ttyUSBx 115200). Once the machine is properly booted, if I hit enter, I get a serial console as normal. However, I get garbage from u-boot (and presumably from the kernel boot messages). It looks just as if I have a speed mismatch. I have tried many other speeds (1500000, 230400, 57600, 38400, 19200, 9600) and none of these seem to work. What am I doing wrong? Or is the state of the box right now that u-boot sends garbage …

Hi, I wanted to convert my root filesystem to btrfs. This allows me to use snapper to take regular snapshops. I also use btrbk to send my snapshots to my secondary storage (also a btrfs array). My root filesystems is installed to eMMC, but there isn't any reason you couldn't do this with an sd card. These instructions are done with a laptop running Linux. I'm using Debian in this case, although any distro with a recent kernel and btrfs tools installed should work. CAVEATS: The current u-boot image (2020.08.21) doesn't support booting natively to btrfs. u-boot *does* support btrfs though. Hopefully a future build of u-boot will add btrfs…

Hello, I installed OMV on my Helios64 and created a share. The device stays online and works well for hours and then at some point eth0 goes offline and no longer communicates. The only way to restore connectivity is with a reboot. I looked at the logs and dont see anything jumping out at me as to why this happens but I could very easily be missing something or the log didnt capture the event. I have not yet tried to console in through the USBc port when this occurs but will try next time. Has anyone else seen this issue or fixed it?

Hello, I'm running Armbian Community 26.8.0 / kernel 6.18.35-current-rockchip64 CPU is quite hot, 56-60 C even when idling; it used to be around 43-45 C on the BSP image. I have a passive cooler mounted. So I added a fan and connected to the FAN header, but it does not spin. I seem to remember a "fan control" overlay within armbian-config for other boards, but it's not present here. Any suggestion? It's a nice board but it's too hot with Armbian 😕 Thanks!

I've found a problem with Armbian on the NanoPi Neo 4 with USB 3.0. I have a RAID6 via four USB 3.0 external hard disks (I know, not optimum but it's been working fine for years off an older ARM box using USB 2.0). While the RAID works fine on the USB 2.0 port (established this was true afterward), when connected to the USB 3.0 port, the USB 3.0 hub I'm using disconnects after only a few seconds, disconnecting all the drives (of course). I initially used an unpowered USB 3.0 hub (I forget the manufacturer; I can check). I figured at first, this might be a power issue (even though the external drives are all self-powered). I found a 10-port power…

I am using a Linux rockpi-4cplus with 5.15.93-rockchip64 (bullseye). I plan to use SPI1 (GPIO1_A7, GPIO1_B0, GPIO1_B1, GPIO1_B2), and then add in a 2nd device on this SPI bus via a custom CS GPIO pin (GPIO4_D5). I could not find the corresponding script file (.DTS) online (on Github) associated with the object file (rockchip-spi-spidev.dtbo). Please could someone point me to it - I can only find files for "sunxi-DT-overlays". I am encountering a problem with my Orangepi4 where I am unable to get the Bluetooth connection to work properly with my speaker. Specifically, after connecting the Bluetooth, there is no option in the audio output settings to use the Bluetooth speaker as the output device. I have tried installing Bluetooth support using armbian-config and have also attempted restarting both the Bluetooth service and the system, but none of these solutions have been successful. On my NanoPi-R6C I have been doing several U-boot updates (writes with dd to areas in 1st 32k) and so far so good. But behavior has changed w.r.t. eMMC v.s. SD-card. I want to do some U-boot build config changes, so the risk it that something might go wrong and I would need USB MASKROM mode to do writes to eMMC I think. The NanoPi-R6C wiki is not very clear with 'connect USB', but it turn out that this should be a connection via type-A to type-A and it does not work in the USB2 port. I have a USB2-only type-A to type-A cable and used that. The NanoPi-R6C appears in the USB device list ('lsusb') and also the tool is seeing the device: /tmp/up…

I know this is going into the wrong section of the Rockchip forum but I don't see a parent category for anything like "Rockchip - Other". I can outline the issue in this thread, but I would rather have this post get moderated and get directed into the right spot to ask about specifically the Turing RK-1 or more generally "weird boards that have RK3588s that aren't already listed".

Hello guys! Recently I bought a Helios64 NAS and now I am playing around with it. My intention is to set it up as I need it, but I also want to understand how the system works. The last weeks I did a huge effort to read everything about what armbian exactly is, how it works, and also how the boot process works. I would say I have a good overview of the topics right now, but now I am at a point where I need your help. My intention right now is the following: I want to make an automatic backup system, which runs regularly and saves the backups incrementally on an external HDD. The idea is: When I am messing up my system (which I certainly will when p…

Hi all, I have been using a Rock64 with hostapd and a usb adapter that uses realtek drivers for a couple of months now. Recently, like a week or two, after what i believe was a kernel update i started getting random freezes in the board. As i use it "headless", when it happens the only way to get it back working is by power cycling it. This means that until today i had no logs of what was happening. Today although, i left my laptop on for a couple hours, with tail -f on kernel.log, messages and syslog. Attached in the file called logs.txt is what i managed to obtain from a terminated ssh session to the board. Im running Linux NetMa…

Related to It looks like the problem's related to the USB autosuspend. Googling "xHCI host not responding to stop endpoint command." seems to say so. I've been trying to disable the USB autosuspend but no success. I followed all possible ways described in https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/91027/how-to-disable-usb-autosuspend-on-kernel-3-7-10-or-above and https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/usb/power-management.txt but $ cat /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend always returns 2 Board: NanoPi M4, 4GB with Armbian_5.65_Nanopim4_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.162.7z

I'm booting from M.2 NVME. Is there any way to fix my setup?

Hi all, I'm following a tutorial by @NicoD on building an Armbian image, the problem I have, is, my board ( NanoPiM4V2 ) isn't shown in the picklist - I 've tried one of the many RK3399 offerings ( Rockchip64 ) but whilst it built ok it didn't boot, anyone here know which board I should use ? Edit I found if you pass EXPERT=yes as a parameter to the install script the board is listed - I'm building it now and will post back the result End edit

Please, I need an img of Armbian compatible with the following: RK3399T and with HDMI. I have tried all versions of Armbian and they do not work. Some do, but the problem is that it does not display an image. I believe it could be the HDMI. The most preferable versions for me are Armbian Noble or Bookworm. The problem also occurs during updates. After updating, the wireless does not work. If there is a version with this fixed, I would be grateful if someone could post a version for me, as up-to-date as possible. My Radxa is a Rock Pi 4Plus v1.73. With a 256GB microSD, I need an img of Armbian that is compatible with wireless and HDMI. If anyone can send me the link, I wou…

Hello, Armbian 25.8.1 on Helios64 BookWorm with Linux 6.12.42-current-rockchip64. I have my system booting from SD with OMV7 installed and several docker containers running. Everything is OK. I have my RK3399-based device booting with my own working kernel and device tree. I want to erase the root partition and install Debian from one of the official ARM distros, but I'm not sure how to do this. Obviously, I can't just boot into the Debian installer like on an X86 machine. What I think I need is a root partition of a vanilla Debian install, because then I can just point U-boot to the root partition and Debian should boot (hopefully into an installer). What's the best way to proceed?

Hi! I have an rk3588 board that has a dma330 controller. I have this driver that essentially polls a dmac channel and it memory maps the data that is received into user space. Now, this driver was developed with the idea to receive data from a peripheral, however, before that I just want to test it by doing some memory to memory transactions. To that end I developed another kernel module that acts as a transmitter (code attached: aerietest.c). However, I am not able to link the transmitting end of the channel with the receiveing end. I added the following code in the device tree: aerie@0 { #dma-cells = <0x01>; compatible = "lyte-ai,l2"; d…

I was wondering if there is a solution to boot from a USB thumb drive and flash the OS to an eMMC. Currently I´m running ARMbian on a Rock64 with an eMMC module installed. Since I´m still trying to figure out how to set up the device I keep reinstalling the OS. So it would be nice to have a way without opening the case, take out the eMMC, hook it up to the PC to flash and reinserting. Thanks in advance.

RockPi4a. Installed busster current 5.8.6 armbian onto eMMC. Works fine. Now i figure out i need swap space (app needs more than the 1G mem i have). So i boot another image from SD an use gparted to shrink the first partition from the end to create 4GByte and create a swap partition in there. Now the board won't boot anymore (see attached file). Erased SPI, no difference. Partition table shows GPT and "MBR protective" (before and after resizing). so, whats the magic to create a bootable armbian disk if one needs different partitioning than just the "full disk one partition" layout ? Is this "uboot" hidden behind the only partition, there was a bun…

ok, so my flaming new helios finally arrived (after Christmas, what a pity) and, after spending some time assembling it (it's not the easiest thing in the world, expecially if you want to attach the mainboard BEFORE connecting all the cables, as specified within the instructions) I started configuring it. Hello, I am new to this forum and struggling with some stuff on the Tinkerboard S R2.0. I use the CLI-version of Armbian Jammy of 23 october 2022. I have to activate several features. I think two of them might relate to 'missing firmware'. 1. Activating a AccessPoint: during the installation of raspAP I get a set of error on 'missing firmware'. 2. Installing a modem: not a single USB-device gets recognized by lsusb. I am stuck at the very beginning. lsusb is working on the xfce but we want a leaner system. I tried the latest TinkerOS but I require a more updated version of python (3.10) and I also would like to stick t…

I have managed to install mainline u-boot on my 5B. i copied the 5It boots from both MMC and the SD. To boot from the sd, you have to interrupt the boot process and tell it to boot from MMC0. the default boot order is: mmc1 mmc0 nvme scsi usb pxe dhcp spi I've tried a number of things to correct the issue but none worked. In the aliases section of rk3588s-orangepi-5b.dts, I had to device sdchi as MMC0 (it really is MMC1). Not it boots like it should. Is there a better way to get u-boot to boot from SD card first? Thanks!

First of all, I would like to express my gratitude to the maintainers for their contributions. This project has helped me a lot, and it runs smoothly on my device. It seems that the status of the nanopi-r5s has been in the staging phase for a long time. I am wondering if there is an opportunity for it to be promoted to the standard support phase. Additionally, I would greatly appreciate having a compiled version of Ubuntu Server. Is there anyone willing to help with this? Thank you very much.

Hello, nanopc t4 folks, Some, not so long time ago, I worked on fusb302.ko driver and device tree improvements in order to make USB Type-C port working properly in the mainline 5.* kernel. I managed to get DisplayPort over type-C + some general type-c handling improved before my board simply died. Unfortunately, I was not able to finish all the planned work and cannot continue further However, I guess, working DP is already fairly good achievement that might be interesting for many of us. Hereby, I want to publish some patches to the mainline!!! driver and device tree that add missing functionality, so one can get DP+type-C working on NanoPC T4 (and all RK339…

I'm trying to get this rockpro64 board to boot off of pxe/nfs. I'm able to get it to boot into armbian and to the point where it asks for the new root password. But something happens on the device where the network gets disabled which stops the NFS connectivity and the rest of the system with it. All traffic stops on the device and it becomes unreachable. NFS traffic stops, it no longer responds to pings, etc. It's not entirely frozen, for example it prints kernel messages to console if the ethernet is pulled. And after a few minutes the nfs connection times out and it starts printing this over and over. It always happens about 75 seconds…

Hi, In a bid to solve an issue with my NAS (which I now think was a dying HDD) I foolishly decided to upgrade from buster to bullseye and now most, if not all, of the services are failing to start - including network-manager, sshd and fancontrol so I only have access via the USB serial console. By setting a static IP I have been able to get it network access at least. When I try to start any of the dead services it hangs for a minute or so, then kicks me back to the login and the terminal is corrupted so I need to reboot before I'm able to do anything meaningful. (I am able to start fancontrol by just running `fancontrol` at which point the fans stop going at 100%, s…

Hi, My PC doesn't recognize my tinkerboard S. Would this be a problem with my tinkerboard or my PC setup? The red led is on when I connect the power cable. Greetings, I can't seem to find any documentation on how to access the only PWM port on the Nano M4 which happens to reside on the 2nd set of pins. It's listed as GPIO2 and the PWM pin is pin 23 which they label as GPIO_C6/PWM1(3V). SInce any documentation I find on GPIO has to do with the 40 pin port, how can I program the PWM using wiringPI-Python? I wonder why Nano chose to disregard the other PWM pins that other Raspberry Pi type boards retained like the Asus Tinkerboard. Or am I missing something? If so, can someone enlighten me as to how to access PWM on the Nano M4.

I have a suggestion for the moderators: Please move the Rockchip 3399 subforum from development to Bug Tracker if its ok! Most of the boards listed there: Nanopi Neo4, M4, NanoPC T4, Rock64PRO, Rock Pi4 are now marked as supported on the Armbian download page. I read a comment from @Igor sometime ago (not able to locate right now) that the only thing holding back the sub forum transfer was a lack of moderator action. Thanks.

Hello. I'm using a NanoPi M4V2 with 4GB of LPDDR4. Before installing Armbian, I tried FriendlyElec and the total amount of 4GB of RAM was detected. When moving to Armbian Buster with kernel 5.9.14-rockchip64, the system is detecting only 2GB of RAM (MemTotal: 1964780 kB). I searched the forum to see if anyone else was having this problem but strangely I found no more reports of this issue. I also tried Armbian Focal, but the problem remains. Thank you.

I did some stumbling with the code and did not find any bugs, so i looked for htop and was a very much suprised to see that my 2GB model has only 1GB total, /proc/meminfo reports same! Is this somekind of arm-specific thing that i do not just know? Memory chips (there is two of them) on the board is: NCLD4C1MA256M32 https://dl.vamrs.com/products/rock960/docs/hw/datasheets/FORESEE_LPDDR4_200ball_NCLD4CXMAXXXM32_10x14.5_VFBGA_Spec_B1_20170802.pdf 256Mb…

Hi all, For most Nanopi devices there are packages in the registry which contain the u-boot files, for example: https://mirrors.dotsrc.org/armbian-apt/pool/main/l/linux-u-boot-nanopi-r4s-current/ Is there a reason these packages aren't present for the Nanopi R6S? The reason behind this question is that I used to extract the u-boot from these packages to experiment with other OS'es which have no official release for a certain device. Of course I can get the u-boot from the downloadable images its first couple bytes, but downloading just the package is way smaller. If there is another source to obtain the u-boot blobs I am all ears. …

I have been using a Rock Pi 4C Plus (v1.2) with M.2 slot with Armbian for some time. I boot from eMMC, but have a 500GB NVME device Cannot recall the original version of firmware installed, but it was originally a Debian bullseye image and I re-installed when a bookworm image became available. I regularly use "apt update" followed by "apt upgrade" to keep the software up to date. After a recent update the system went into a boot loop. I attempted to recover by creating an SD card with the latest Armbian image. When trying to debug the issue I noticed that the NVME in the M.2 slot is no longer recognized. Reverting to previously available 23.11 image and the NVME …

Just an information about the `edge` kernel (6.18) when used on the cm3588-nas system. The rtc driver is not initialized on a `poweron`. After a poweron, you will see the following in the log. Hello, I flashed the latest KDE version to the SD card of my Orange Pi 3B using Armbian Imager, but for some reason the USB ports are not working at all. There's no power coming from the USB ports, and the keyboard backlight isn't working at all. What could be the reason? Can you help me? I've never experienced anything like this before.

Hey guys, I heard that the USB3 port of the Rock64 outputs up to 950mA. I have this external HD (WD My Passport), one of those 2,5'' external HDDs that are powered solely by the USB3 port. From what I've gathered, this should need no more than 650mA. But it doesn't work on the Rock64. After mounting the thing, if I try to write and read, it just disconnects with a bunch of dmesg errors. It makes a little click sound after the spinning builds up. Looks like there's not enough energy (it works fine on my desktop). How can I check and monitor the voltage and current delivered by the USB3.0 on the Rock64? My power supply is …

Looks like OPi4 has two active UART interfaces (ttyS2, S4). S2 is connected to the back 3 pins which are the debug ports, and S4 is uart on pins 19,21. Is there anyway to bring up another interface for UART on Pins 8, 10? Ive tried adding uart1,2,3 etc in armbianEnv file in /boot as well as console=display but non of this works.

Hello, I stupidly upgraded without thinking about the possible consequences. 6.1 to 6.2. Ive had my /home on nvme. But the nvme drive is no longer recognized. I have managed to get my display back, Im not sure about my panel yet. I had restore my device tree overlay. Ive hacked around losing the nvme. But it would be good to get my nvme drive back. I've got some work to do to deal with not having that storage and what was on it. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Alternatively, maybe it's not too hard to roll back to 6.1? I haven't contemplated that.

Hi, I'm seeing the following error in Chromium when trying to play youtube, the video loading screen never opens the video. I have installed chromium-browser (+libv4l-rkmpp, +ffmpeg, +rockchip-multimedia-config) from the ppa: https://launchpad.net/~liujianfeng1994/+archive/ubuntu/rockchip-multimedia My OS version is Armbian 23.08 Jammy. When using FFplay the rkmpp hardware decoder is able to correctly decode h264 and hevc content, so there does not seem to be a problem with rkmpp. Any thoughts on what could be wrong? I found another guy who had the same issue, but there was no resolution: https://github.com/armbian/build/issues/5384 Faile…
