  1. Hello everyone, I have an OrangePi 4 that will serve as an interface for the electric car chargers that are produced in my company. We currently use Raspberry 3 and we want to upgrade to the OrangePi 4, mainly because it has eMMc. The problem is that the interface we have was designed to work on Raspberry. I put the SD card with the image in the OrangePi but it starts with the system that has been installed on eMMc (Armbian). Can you tell me if it will be very difficult for the image we use in Rpi to be possible to install on OrangePi? Another thing I want to do is move from the Armbian that I have currently installed on eMMc to Debian, h…

  2. If you want the fans of your Helios64 to start spinning earlier, look no further. This will allow the fans to spin at a constant speed from the earliest stage of initrd until fancontrol is started by the system. My use-case is for full disk encryption and recovery in initramfs, sometimes I can have the machine powered on for quite a while before fancontrol starts. Or, if the boot process encounters an error the fans may never start, this prevents that. Step 1: Tell initramfs to include the pwm-fan module echo pwm-fan | sudo tee -a /etc/initramfs-tools/modules Step 2: Create a new file at /etc/initramfs-tools/scripts/init-top/fan with the followin…

  3. Hey, posting this in hopes that someone might have an ideas as to why this is happening. I've been dealing with an issue with my ZFS pool for a while now where the pool gets suspended but there are no other error indicators. WARNING: Pool 'rpool' has encountered an uncorrectable I/O failure and has been suspended. I'm using ZFS on top of LUKS and used to have problems with my drives resetting due to SATA errors, but I haven't really seen that issue since I started using my own SATA cables and limiting SATA speed to 3 Gbps. My working theory for last week has been that it's a problem with the CPU, perhaps some handover between big.LITTLE. So I've t…

  4. Hi there, now I have pure bug report: done apt update + apt ugprade, GUI frozen, even no SSH, about an hour later (I was outside my house) (probably) restarted but up to multiuser, no GUI at all. Howeve I CAN log over SSH, sthe issue "startx", but ONLY as ROOT. (much indesired, as ex web browser should never be started as root). I can enable remote X in /etc/X11/xinit/xserverrc , then start remote X session. Also "init 5" attempts to start X, but crashes. How to diagnose and repair? Laurent

  5. I had some troubles with the latest build (Armbian_23.05.0-trunk_Orangepi5_lunar_legacy_5.10.110). First I had to restore the 5b specific device tree (rk3588s-orangepi-5b.dts) because with the modified rk3588s-orangepi-5.dts the Wi-Fi and the eMMC doesn't work. So far everything works fine with the exception of the bluetooth. After each boot I have to manually attach it: hciattach /dev/ttyS9 any ...otherwise the hci_uart module is not loaded and no hci device is available. Once attached the bluetooth works fine and I can pair my mouse with it, but not my bluetooth keyboard?!? Seems like the adapter doesn't even detect the keyboard. W…

I have installed open media vault on my rock64 and I have a sata3 disc drive connected to the usb3 port. I have tried both armbian and ayufan firmwares and the speed of the samba shares is 30 MB/sec. I know that the system can do more as with FTP I get 100MB/sec. I have tried many samba tweaks but nothing changes, is this the max I can expect?

I've got my helios64 recently, and I wonder what type of FS to choose for main storage. I have five 4TB disk drives. I've installed OMV, made raid5 and format it with XFS. I use XFS because I work with this FS on Centos on my x86 servers, I don't use ext4 because I don't like when sometimes it starts to check filesystem during boot process. My setup is working perfect for a couple of weeks. I don't have any reboots or freezes or any issues that I've read on this forum. Now I think about migrating from XFS to BTRFS or ZFS. The main reason is to have file check-summing and scrub. Does anybody have btrfs with raid5 or ZFS with raidz1 on Helios64? Do you have any problems wit…

The tinker os can boot and work well. The red LED is on and the green LED keeps blinking. How could I do to boot Armbian on this board?

    Hi all! There's a dedicated RTC chip in Rock3A (HYM8563TS), but unfortunately it doesn't work right with the standard Armbian image. The chip is correctly identified, but the problem is with the RK809 PMIC, which also contains an RTC. During boot RK809 is labeled as rtc0, and HYM8563TS as rtc1, and by default kernel uses rtc0 for hwclock manipulations. Since RTC battery is connected to HYM8563TS, after power cycle RK809 is reset to 2017-08-05 09:00:00. | _ \ ___ ___| | __ |___ / / \ | |_) / _ \ / __| |/ / |_ \ / _ \ | _ < (_) | (__| < ___) / ___ \ |_| \_\___/ \___|_|\_\ |____/_/ \_\ Welcome to Armbian 23.11.1 Bookwo…

  19. I have a question. Why isnt all the rockchip information including forward mainline all in one space for all to see and collaborate/advance? That question is the right one to ask at the end of this particular week — because you've now personally visited every scattered fragment: English docs in one repo, Chinese docs in another, the mainline truth in Collabora's private notes file, the seek-handling wisdom buried in nyanmisaka's ffmpeg fork, the SoC-capability gotcha in a Jellyfin support thread, the 10-bit format law in a kernel patch, and the B-frame fix in nobody's space until Tuesday. Here's why it's like this — the honest anatomy: 1. Rockchip itself …

  24. Today I upgraded my Helios64, and after reboot it didn't come back. (Waited for 5 minutes or so) After connecting a serial cable (via the USB-C connector), and rebooting, I saw a normal bootloader log (as far as I can see), but no kernel log, just a repeated 'ERROR: rockchip_plat_sip_handler: unhandled SMC (0x82000003)'. I rebooted again, to create a bootlog file, and I saw the same. Then suddenly, after a minute or so, I saw network activity, and my Helios64 was back. Now I have 3 questions. 1) Why didn't it boot twice, and then succeeded? 2) Why is there no kernel bootlog? 3) What is an unhandled SMC? The log ended with …

Some of you may be interested to not only store your data on Helios64 but to also run other services on it - such as home automation. One of the popular platforms for home automation in Europe - and in Germany in particular - is "Homematic". They opened up their ecosystem some time ago and allow others to implement their own components (some excellent examples from Jérôme are here). As of yesterday - with the latest commit - it is possible to run a virtualised "ccu3" base station for that platform, called pivccu, with support for a detached antenna module (RPI-RF-MOD) coupled to Helios64 (and Armbian 20.11 kernel 5.9.10) through a tcp/ip network using a dedic…

Since it is in a shared place, to better protect my and my user's privacy i enabled Full Disk Encryption (CRYPTROOT_ENABLE). Now, back to the question: is usb otg enabled by default? Can someone with physical access use an otg cable to read files from the rock64? I would try it by myself but i don't have physical access to the board. Hello everyone, I’m starting this message by apologizing for my poor English (I am French) and also by informing you that I am a newbie with Linux. I have a big problem with my NAS Helios64. At first, I thought this problem was caused by OMV. So I went to the OMV forum to explain my situation. I created the following topic: https://forum.openmediavault.org/index.php?thread/40252-many-problems-after-an-update/&pageNo=1 . There, a kind moderator (macom) asked me to enter some instructions to try to pinpoint the root of the problem. After giving him some outputs, he told me: "For me it looks like your SD card is dead." Hey all! Finally got my Rock64 booted up and running. I set up a Samba server and a Plex share so I can access an attached USB3 RAID array as a media server. Initially I was getting speeds of ~3 MB/s write and attributed it to transferring over wifi with an ancient Airport Express Draft-N router. Upgraded to a Netgear R7000P and the issue still persists so I figured it would be worth it to post here. I would've attributed it to the USB3 to eSata converter going to the RAID array but doing some disk speed tests on the Rock64 shows it getting about 130 MB/s read/write speed over the connection so I doubt it's that. Samba setup is stock and my share described bel…

Dear all, I am highly interested in the Helios64 and registered for the next batch. Here are a few questions, I hope that your guys can answer. The OS is Embedded Debian I assume. Questions are quite simple: 1) Hard drive numbering on startup Under Debian, the hard drives in a RAID array are renumbered on each startup by random: /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, etc ... This means that if drive /dev/sdb fails ... it is not necessarily the second hard drive in the bay. I already lost a RAID server extracting the wrong disc in an array. Then I migrated to a Synology NAS and notices that this problem had been fixed as dis…

I see there is a fan header on the board but no fan installed, just the heatsink, but…

I'm confused about the dts structure in Community builds and the proper locations for defconfig, dts and dtsi files. I've worked with the files in OpenWRT where they are rigidly structured - something that would be a monumental task for Armbian community builds. The OEM dts file does not use any includes/dtsi fi…
