Running latest Jammy image and trying to attach USB to SATA 3 SSD. I tried two different USB 3 to SATA adapters and they both show up in lsusb: Bus 005 Device 002: ID 2109:0711 VIA Labs, Inc. VL711 SATA 6Gb/s bridge sudo fdisk -l doesn't show drive, but I can plug into my desktop and it mounts disk. Could be related to https://github.com/MichaIng/DietPi/issues/5378

Picked up a P1 Pro the other day. Used the P1 installer, and it boots fine. However WiFi and m.2 dont work ( no m.2 makes it useless for me.. WiFi, i can use a dongle ) so i assume the device tree needs changed. Still a newbie at this, so unsure how i can find or extract the tree from somewhere else. They do have a couple of official builds of other OS, but not real sure how to get it from there, if you even can. Lots of googling for a tree has come up empty.

When I boot any variant with kernel 6..x.x from SD there is no problem with hdmi. When I flash the same variant to the nvme, it boots fine but there is no hdmi output. The orange pi logo appears for a second, then nothing. I can ssh in and everthing works fine. Any variant with 5.x.x kernel works fine from the nvme, with hdmi output. What I don't understand is that if I have output to hdmi when booting from sd, why not from nvme. What I think is relevent entries in the boot log is below. mmu fe043e00.iommu: Enable stall request timed out, status: 0x00030b Jan 30 09:38:22 orangepi3b kernel: rk_iommu fe043e00.iommu: Enable stall reques…

Hello, I am trying to enable Panfrost GPU acceleration on a new Armsom Sige5 board running the latest edge kernel (6.1.115), but glxinfo -B still shows llvmpipe. I have been troubleshooting this for some time and have discovered that the kernel module (panfrost.ko) loads correctly with modprobe, but it is not binding to the GPU hardware on boot. I believe I have found the reason why. A recent commit to the Armbian build system (https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/836def3d11699537e6289dedfbc766c2050d422d) changes the method for enabling Panfrost. It removes the panfrost overlay and adds KERNEL_TARGET_CONFIG="panfrost-all" instead. It…

Hello all, After some time without touching it, I came back to my Rockpi 4B. I installed the latest armbian bionic image on a samsung 64Go card. All seems to work fine for the first boot. But when I try to restart the system I don't get any display on screen. To get it back I need to unplug HDMI plug and re-plug it. Didn't found any conversation about that trouble? Is it a bug or is there something I can do to fix it ? Thanks for your answers. Pat

Hello, How can I get a effective shutdown with the battery with legacy 4.4 (it always restarts) (2.5 Gbps OK) or How can the 2,5 Gbps performance issue be solved in 5.8 ? (that can shutdown OK) Which one is the easiest to address and solve for a beginner like me using OMV? Thank You! David

Hi, Around the forums, I've seen that some people have been successful in running the lima driver on Amlogic or Allwinner hardware: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/14180-bananapro-lima-driver-problems/ https://forum.armbian.com/topic/11424-playing-with-limamesa-mali-drivers/ However, I couldn't seem to find any posts with Rockchip hardware, specifically the ROCK64. I tried to enable it myself by doing the following, but was unsuccessful so far. enable kernel module lima via "sudo modprobe lima" update /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/01-armbian-defaults.conf as below per the lima wiki instructions (also tried w/o the "Device" secti…

I've been trying to get OMV setup on the Helios prior to adding my hard drives and I keep getting errors and communication failures when I try to do pretty much anything. I like OMV for it's GUI, but honestly, I've never been a fan of it functionally. Is there anything comparable to it that works with the Helios64? Anyone have any suggestions how to fix it? I have logs but I don't see a place to attach them.

I've been trying to connect a USB hdd for a while now, and depending on the SATA disk and the USB<->Sata adapter I've had different behaviours : * 700mA hdd * Adapter A works, can mount and copy * Adapter B is detected, the SATA device too in dmesg, but does not appear in lsblk. * 1A hdd (Seagate Barracuda 2To 2.5'') * Adapter A seems to be detected, the disk tries to start (sde is showing in dmesg) but usb device disappears, reappears etc ("usb disk bootloop") * Adapter B is not even detected in dmesg or lsusb ! Obviously, the 4 configurations perfectly work on a x86 host. What could be going on ? I'm pr…

I am trying to get a camera going on the Nanopi-m4 (I have tried another board as well with similar results). The sensor is setup in the device tree correctly and gets probed on boot. Hi, I own a nanopi m4 v1, I know there is no more armbian support neither maintainer for this board but I still enjoy "the other supported variants" which work very good for my needs. Until now, I only used armbian on sdcards for my system, but today I tried to install it of my emmc module. Maybe I did somethig stupid, I tried to install the bullseye current cli version from https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-m4/ on my emmc module via armbian-install. So all process of installation was ok (boot on sdcard then armbian-install => erase / format / install on emmc ...), I choose to boot from emmc too (maybe it was a mistake). => After …

The mainline 5.11 patch "phy: rockchip: set pulldown for strobe line in dts" https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/8b5c2b45b8f0a11c9072da0f7baf9ee986d3151e (not backported to 5.10.y) seems to have broken most if not all rockchip board EMMC HS400 enhanced strobe support. This probably affects supported rockchip boards (at least rk3399 ones, but probably most). That is boards exhibit: [ 18.985162] mmc1: running CQE recovery [ 18.988056] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [ 18.988500] mmc1: cqhci: spurious TCN for tag 12 and the filesystem ends up corrupted on write attempt. Hello everyone, I'm experiencing frequent network disconnections on my system running Armbian 24.5.3, both with Bookworm and Noble bases, which are both using Kernel 6.6.39. This issue becomes particularly frustrating when syncing files with Unison, as the interruptions disrupt the process frequently. To provide some background, I didn't encounter these network issues when I was using the last Focal version, which was running on Kernel 5.x. The current versions of Samba I'm using are 4.17.12-Debian on Bookworm and 4.19.5-Ubuntu on Noble. Unison is at version 2.52.1 on Bookworm and 2.53.3 on Noble. Both systems also have the latest updates for MDADM…

Hi, I'm currently working to enable SPI on NanoPi M4 but it is not working... I have edited main DT to the following one and now /dev/spidev0.0 appears. Had my Helios up and running for a few months now running off SD card, but there was a message (can't remember where) to not make the install you 'final' setup as things were still in development. I've been keeping track of the 'what works and doesn't' , but as there are no updates in 6 weeks, is the general consensus that we've reached stability and its time to transfer to the eMMC?

Hi, Thank you very much for the community support of Odroid M2. The latest release 25.5.0-trunk.256 works great, boot without any error messages. Only rolling release is available for now, but that doesn't matter. I would just like to ask for support on two issues: 1. monitor connection via USB-DP is not working - I don't know what is needed to make this connection work 2. some tree-overlay drivers specific to Odroid are missing - I mainly miss the ability to connect display-Vu8S (via MIPI-DSIdisplay_vu8s.dts). Source codes can be obtained directly from kardkernel images, but it is not in my power to compile them for armbian. best rega…

I'm using Rock64 image with my V88 Piano RK3328 box and when trying to build ZFS (SPL), it gives me an error. It's probably due to the maching kernel headers for running kernel is missing. Hi, my rock64 (rev2) with the latest build of Armbian randomly looses its network connection. I couldn't use the armbianmonitor -u as it had no network connection, but when i use ifconfig, I can see it's still got it's settings and is the NIC lights are on. ifconfig showed 6 TX errors. My NIC is set to DHCP with static reserved IP address to an ASUS router. I leave it on 24/7 and check it once a while as it pretty much is used as a NAS with a single USB 3 drive. This morning I connected up via HDMI and a USB keyboard and logged in successfully. I don't have much Linux experience so wasn't sure how to capture the logs to SD card so i could co…

I just bought a FriendlyElec NanoPi Neo4 having had loads of experience with Armbian on Allwinner (OrangePi) boards. My preferred method for getting boards "up and running" is simply to connect a serial terminal to the debug port and power on. I tried this with several Armbian Buster images and found that I couldn't log in as root on any of them. Checking the SD card on my laptop, the debug port (ttyFIQ0) was missing from /etc/securetty. Editing /etc/securetty and adding ttyFIQ0 on a new line at the bottom of the file and all is well and I now have Buster up and running on the Neo4 :-) root@nanopineo4:/etc# diff securetty~ s…

@Contributor/Maintainer AR-1172 - fix complete 08 May 2022 There is was a bug in the 5.15, 5.16 and 5.17 kernel r8152 driver that affected RTL8153b Gigabit USB Ethernet (LAN0) on the Orange Pi R1plus LTS and other boards. The bug only presents on high load and I can trigger it reliably with bidirectional high load on Orange Pi R1plus LTS. The bug kills the RX interface and it requires power down to reset. I assume that it also affects the Orange Pi R1plus, and there are reports of it affecting NanoPi R2S. I would assume that other boards could be impacted. My proposed fix is to revert the driver back to the version used in 5.10 kernel (and to disa…

I'm about to install active cooling fan on my recently delivered nanoPI T4. However, I cannot get what is a type of the soldered 3-pin fan connector on this board? What I see there is visually too small as for standard connector size. Is it something special I have no clue about yet, or it is for future proprietary Friendlyarm's fan designed specially for the board? Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks

What information I've gathered so far: There are two "vops" a big and little, and the little one is not designed to, and cannot output 4k (there was a patch hacking that into vopl but I never dared test it and can't find it now). There was this change setting the maximum resolution to 4k in a file/subdirectory I cannot find in recent kernels anymore: https://patchwork.ozlabs.org…

Hi, I have major issues with my helios64 / ZFS setup - maybe anyone can give me a good hint. I'm running the following system: Linux helios64 5.9.14-rockchip64 #20.11.4 SMP PREEMPT Tue Dec 15 08:52:20 CET 2020 aarch64 GNU/Linux I have a three WD 4TB Plus disk - on each disk is encrypted with luks. The three encrypted disks are bundled into a raidz1 zpool "archive" using zfs. Basically this setup works pretty good, but with rather high disc usage, e.g. during a scrub, the whole pool degrades due to read / crc errors. As example: zpool status -x pool: archive state: DEGRADED status: One or more devices are faulted in response to persisten…

I got the Helios64 and was running it from an external SD card so far since when I first installed it, the other options where not available, yet. I'm running openmediavault 5.5 (Armbian 20.11.6 Buster with Linux 5.9.14-rockchip64). Now, I wanted to move the system to a SSD and installed a "Crucial MX500 1TB CT1000MX500SSD4" according to https://wiki.kobol.io/helios64/m2/ Unfortunately, the SSD is not detected by the system, see output of dmesg below. For ata1, it only shows SATA link down. Is there anything I can do to figure out what the problem is? Or is there any reason why this particular SSD would not work? ~$ dmesg | grep ata [ 0.000000] M…

Hi guys, I have been using my Helios64 for more than a year now. I have it connected with the 1Gbps NIC. I have been reading about network bonding and getting both NICs up and running. The main purpose would be to have it running in mode "Adaptive Transmit Load Balancing" (mode 5). First I've discovered the issue with the 2.5Gbps not being able to keep a consistent (and performant) speed. So I've soldered the missing pin from the capacitor to the NIC (more on this later). I've checked the speed and now it is up to specs, getting very close to 1000Mbps (960-980Mbps). But here it comes the problem that I'm facing, if I enable both independently …

Hi guys, I recently bought a Rock PI 4 and installed Armbian Buster with kernel 5.4.6. The os is booting fine but I am facing major performance issues when trying to download from the internet. I have also a Raspberry Pi 4 connected to the same switch (via LAN) and when I execute the following command curl -L http://speedtest.belwue.net/1G > /dev/null I am getting download speed of approx 8MB/s on my Raspberry but only 2MB/s on my Rock PI 4. From connection side and rooting there is no difference. While using the same Armbian version on my Rock64 I am getting the same speed as my Raspberry Pi. Is this a known problem with the Rock PI…

Hi, I think I may have posted about this in a few places, but I'm not sure where most are looking to discuss helios64 issues. The problem I am having is that the fans do not turn at all. As per the wiki, I've tried setting fancontrol off, and checking that the pwm value goes to 255, which it does but still no movement. I am using the fans supplied in the kit. There is nothing obstructing the fans, and sometimes if I disconnect and reconnect them from the board they will twitch a bit, or spin for a short while (until the connector is fully down against the board), but nothing otherwise. I've also tried heating the cpu up to ~85C (e.g `cat /dev/rando…

I think I found a regression: It seems the USB 3.0 port is not working with kernel 5.10.160. It was working with kernel 5.10.110. So I have two questions: 1. How do I file a bug-report ? 2. Linux 6.3 officially supports the rockchip-rk3588 (6.4 is out). When can we expect a kernel update and which kernel version would that be? Thank you

Good morning, I am an electronics engineer, and wanted to make an additional card for the nanopi neo3 based on the rk3328 to add an EMMC and an SPI memory to it so that it no longer uses an sd card. By dint of searching the forum, I managed to modify the dtb files of the neo3 to include the spi@ff190000 of my neo3 and to make the dtbo files spidev and jedec. But unfortunately, armbian-config cannot finish the job. For information I use a N25Q064..3E (flashroom information with active spidev) and goes back well in /dev/mtd0 in jedec. but in my armbian i have no file /usr/lib/uboot***spl.bin. Maybe the problem …

As the other thread is getting a bit cluttered I thought I'd start a new one. Thanks to the good work of @pask and others we now have a working image for the M4 v2. However, despite following instructions to the letter. I can't get the board to boot from the eMMC card, in fact I don't think the board even recognizes the card ( I've tried different ones ) Also not being able to connect via a serial cable is hampering my attempts at debugging the boot process. Cany anyone put up a Muppets guide on the steps required to achieve this ?

Hello, I am quite new to this topic, and I have found it to be quite complex. I primarily work with tiny MCUs and RTOSes, but I am enjoying the Linux space so far. In essence I would like to use the Mali GPU that is embedded within the RK3399 of the Helios64 for hardware transcoding. This isn't a novel idea, as shown by these sources: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/9272-development-rk3399-media-script/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/66675-36078-transcoding-rockpro64/ I am using Jellying, and in so FFMPEG to decode/encode the data streams. It seems that V4L2 is supported for hardware ecoding/decoding in the FFMPEG p…

I have the newest Armbian 28.08.0-trunk image running on a NanoPi R6C with a 4TB NVMe SSD. The NanoPi is only connected to power and 1G ethernet via the 1G WAN port. When using the machine as NAS with Samba and a Windows client connected there is a strange problem when receiving large files. The files are stored on the NVMe SSD with ~450MB/s read/write via PCIe 2.1x1. When transmitting files from the NanoPi to a SMB client the 1G ethernet is maxed out but when receiving files the connection drops down to ~60 MB/s every few seconds. This instantly gets fixed when using the 2.5G LAN port instead of the 1G WAN port. On that po…

I've been hopelessly trying to get Armbian(Buster) and OMV to work together properly. But alas no luck. I decided to start over using a fresh and latest image on the SD card. I believe I may have unwittingly screwed up the eMMC boot process because I added an M.2 SATA drive in yesterday and have since removed it. Hence my quest to simply get the SBC up and running from the SD card. I have tried everything this morning, I cannot get an image to load at all. One of my questions is; do the hard drives need to be installed just to get the SBC working? I have tried with them in and out to no avail. Are there some lingering config files residing on the HDs th…

Hey guys. I'm totally new to this, used to fiddle with the PI when it came out but not any real serious projects. Just recently I've gotten annoyed on how I play back media and where I have my storage solution so I figured it was time for an upgrade. I've been reading this thread a lot, much respect goes to tkaiser for making such an amount of info available to us newbies. I actually ordered the Banana PI M3 until I read the wikis and this post which lead me to believe that the BPI M3 would make for a fantastically shitty NAS. I had actually ordered it but canceled the order before it was shipped. From those numbers I interpret that th…

Can someone please help me understand how Armbian for Rock64 is developed? In the past, there was an image for the Rock64 that was a server image, not a desktop image. Now, I see Ubuntu and a Debian Stretch desktop images, no server image. Is there a plan to build a server image going forward? Also, will a newer kernel be built at some point? Not trying to stir the pot or cause trouble, just trying to understand where the Rock64 support is going in the future. Thank you for all the spectacular work the Armbian team does.

I have a Dev term a06 and have been having problems with the newer releases based on kernel 6.x. After booting one of these, the display does not have backlight or any text/image displayed. On the last 5.x it boots and works fine. I have not yet tried the HDMI output on the 6.x versions, need to get an adapter, but I'm guessing that the built in display is not discovered. The Dev term does not normally have a serial port, I'd need to solder up an adapter, or I would have looked at it to see if anything was happening. Any suggestions for a very basic Linux user to try? Especially something I can maybe edit after flashing (before first boot). I should be able t…

Hi there, I'm setting up microk8s cluster on: 2 x RockPi 4A (Linux 6.1.63-current-rockchip64) 2 x Rock 5 B (Linux 5.10.160-legacy-rk35xx) Installing microk8s and connecting cluster went without issue. My next step was to install https://microk8s.io/docs/addon-mayastor in order to create distributed volume between my nodes. The problem is that mayastor require linux-modules-extra which is not build for my kernel versions. I tried few different kernels but this module is not present there as well. My question is: Is there something what I can do? Is it possible to build this module for 6.1.63-current-r…

Since the specific USB hardware support is now in place, I thought it would be good to discuss pitfalls and remedies for transitioning to a modern kernel. I have now tested the 6.8.5 based Armbian. None of the latest packages (.408 - .411) come up with HDMI output. You have to have a serial console connected, and then correct the problems. 1) This is what you are greeted with: [ 6.828040] panthor fb000000.gpu: [drm] *ERROR* Failed to load firmware image 'mali_csffw.bin' To fix this do apt install armbian-firmware-full and reboot 2) The 8821cu driver has performance problems. Also, the stupid "windows" adapter comes up …

I'm putting together a build for a 3D printer, rk3308b-s board that has no ethernet, just a Fn-link wifi chip that is a knock-off of an rtl8192fs. I pulled the OEM dts and it describes the chip as an rtl8192cs. I'm pretty sure this is an out of kernel driver and my searches indicate I put source in userpatches. What do I need to add in the board/*.csc file to build to an image with the kernel module(s)? I do have a ralink ra2400, a mt7201 and some supported realtek dongles and If connected, I could git the code build and moprobe the module to test. Ideally, I would like to incorporate the driver via dkms in a armbian build. Can someone point me to the pro…
